[NATION.PK] A Moslem father in Germany has admitted to strangling his 19-year-old daughter to death after she was caught shoplifting condoms to be with her boyfriend.
Asadullah Khan, 51, and his wife Shazia, 41, both from Pakistain, are on trial for the murder of their daughter Lareeb Khan in Darmstadt, Germany,
Khan told the court he believed his daughter Lareeb, a dental technician, had brought "dishonor" to the family by being in a relationship with a boy he did not approve of. Khan said he wanted Lareeb to have an arranged marriage as he and his wife had done.

[Iran Press TV] Prince Nawaf bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi King Salman ...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians.... 's elder brother and his special advisor, has died at the age of 83.
Nawaf, the 22nd son of King Abdulaziz, passed away late on Tuesday, the official Saudi Press Agency cited a statement released by the Saudi Royal Court as saying.
Born in 1932, Nawaf briefly served as the chief of the Royal Court in 1961 and was the finance minister for two years during King Saud's reign. He then worked as King Faisal's advisor for Persian Gulf affairs from 1968 to 1975.
Nawaf did not hold any official position from 1975 to 2001.
In September 2001, he became the country's intelligence agency chief and his tenure lasted until his resignation in January 2005 due to health concerns. He was then appointed by King Fahd as his special advisor, a post which he served for about seven months till Fahd's death in August 2005.

We have been pretty warm for September, by September standards," says meteorologist Lamont Bain in the National Weather Service's Fort Worth office. But Bain says we're not near record-high temperatures for the month. Not even close. Now, if you were to add the highs and lows for the month so far, we are in the Top 10 for warmest Septembers ever. So there are different ways to measure "hottest"? Who knew?
And it's not like there's a break coming in the near future: The long-range forecast calls for highs of 90 or slightly higher through the end of the month into early October.
And we (Dallas, TX) are not alone. From this week's headlines: "Montreal's warm weather could set record for September." "Denver Vies For Warmest September Ever, Breaks 130-Year Old Temperature Record." "Late summer surge pushing Buffalo toward its warmest September on record." And, from Minneapolis: "More July Than September - Hottest Summer Ever Recorded, Worldwide?" All of these headlines consider the standard definition of "hottest", right? What? No standard?
"This is the ninth-warmest (Dallas) September through the 23rd," says Bain. "The average temperature so far has been 83.4, when you're looking at highs and lows together." That's not a far cry from the warmest September ever through the 23rd: 1939, when highs and lows averaged 85.5. (Dallas-Fort Worth weather records date back to 1898, in case you're wondering.)
And, of course, much of what's to come this fall and winter - higher rainfall, lower temperatures - depends on what happens with the long-predicted El NiĂąo. Dallas did have a cool, and very wet, spring. Nice discussion at the link, BTW.

[Libya Herald] Misrata authorities have decided that the name of the town, in Latin script, is Misrata, not Misrata. The latter, it has said, is an Italian colonial pronunciation and spelling, continued during the Qadaffy era. It also says that in Arabic, it is مصراتة not مصراته. Glad they cleared that up. I was wondering.
It is not clear if the decision will be quickly accepted in the city. The university, the central hospital and the Free Trade zone all use Misrata, as do many other entities in the city .
The Libya Herald, which uses Misrata, have been criticised on several occasions in the past by locals for not using Misrata.

Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other... capital Ouagadougou as soldiers lock down an area around the barracks of an elite unit involved in a short-lived coup after they refused to disarm.
An unnamed bigwig told AFP news agency said on Tuesday that Ouagadougou's international flights were cancelled as army surrounded the camp of Presidential Security Regiment (RSP) responsible for the September 17 coup.
The source added that the airport would remain shut until further notice.
In a statement, army chief of staff General Pingrenoma urged the population to avoid the Ouaga 2000 district where the camp is located for security reasons.

[Dhaka Tribune] A local court in Gazipur has sentenced a man to death for killing his pregnant sister three and a half years ago to gobble up the whole of ancestral property.
The convict is Md Jahirul Islam Kalu, 36, son of Md Nurul Islam, from Barmi village in Sreepur upazila.
Gazipur District and Session Judge AKM Enamul Hoque pronounced the death verdict in presence of Kalu on Tuesday morning and fined him Tk10,000.
When asked, local public prosecutor Advocate Haris Uddin Ahmed acknowledged the incident.
According to case briefing, nine-month pregnant Farzana Akter Nargis was taken to her father's residence in Barmi village on March 4, 2012 for safe delivery.
Earlier, Kalu had long been threatening his father with killing his sister Farzana if the whole property was not handed over to him legally.
On the following day in the morning, Kalu slaughtered his sister to death and locals caught him soon after the murder.
Farzana's husband Asaduzzaman Azad launched a case with Sreepur model cop shoppe in this connection and police placed submitted the charge sheet accusing Kalu for the killing.
Later, the court handed down death penalty to Kalu after finding his involvement in the murder.

[Hurriyet Daily News] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... is set to fully finance the construction of Crimea's largest mosque, Crimea's grand mufti said Sept. 28.
Crimea Autonomous Republic Grand Mufti Emir Ali Ablayev said the Russian administration had approved the project, which they had been trying to implement for 10 years -- before the time Crimea joined Russia.
The mosque will be constructed in Crimea's capital, which Crimean Tatars refer to as Akmescit and Russians as Simferopol.
"The worship venue will be built in an area of 2,500 square meters, and, together with the courtyard and the fountain, it will cover 5,000 square meters," Ablayev said, adding that "about 5,000 Moslems will be able to worship at the same time."
He said the mosque would be called the Friday Mosque.
Ercan Bekar, the owner of the Istanbul-based construction company Erbek Insaat which will build the mosque, said the cornerstone of the mosque would soon be laid.
Erbek has 36 months to build the mosque, but the aim is to finish the construction within 24 months, Bekar said.
Bekar said the mosque complex would include a "home for the imam, library, car park, and market center. The project represents Turkish architecture," Bekar said.
"Turkey's Directorate for Religious Affairs [Diyanet] provided every kind of support for the implementation of this project, which will be Crimea's largest mosque. Turkey will fully finance the construction of the mosque," Ablayev said.

[Wired] THE US AND China have been sparring for years over allegations that the Chinese government has been hacking US companies to steal trade secrets. Today the two announced a historic agreement that, at least on its face, puts an end to this kind of spying.
President Obama said during a press conference today with visiting Chinese President Xi Jinxing, that the two nations have reached a "common understanding" to not conduct or support cyber espionage and intellectual property theft for the purposes of commercial gain. There's more at the link. The agreement does not cover so-called "nation-state spying" so if they keep breaking into White House, Pentagon and Hildebeest computers it's OK. Scores of trucks carrying supplies are stranded on the India-Nepal border, amid protests in south Nepal over the country's newly adopted constitution.
India has been critical of Nepal's new constitution.
But it denies enforcing a blockade, saying goods are being held up due to security reasons.
The move comes after a former Maoist splinter party started a campaign against Indian movies and TV channels in Nepal.
