Stick shift prevents Paterson gunmen from stealing vehicle
[NORTHJERSEY] Two gunnies aborted their plan to steal a Paterson resident's vehicle in the 5th Ward on Thursday after they realized it had a stick-shift manual transmission that neither of them could operate, police said.

The suspects still took the victim's wallet and jewelry, but they had to flee on foot because of their inability to drive a stick shift, said Sgt. Ronald Van Wolde.

The incident happened at about 12:15 am on East 24th Street, between 17th and 18th avenues, police said.

The 22-year-old victim had just parked his vehicle when the two suspects approached, one going to the driver's side door and the other to the passenger's side as they pulled handguns, police said.

The gunman on the driver's side ordered the victim out of the car, but then the other suspect intervened, saying they could not steal the vehicle because of the stick shift, police said. The suspects then argued amongst themselves about whether to try to take the vehicle, before finally deciding against it, police said.

They then ran off with the victim's belongings, police said.

Both suspects were black men with Caribbean accents, police said. One man was about five-feet, six-inches tall and weighed about 300 pounds, police said.
He answers to "Porky" or "Fats."
Nah, that's "Slim"...
He was wearing a grey jacket and dark pants.
Big ones.
The other suspect was about six-feet tall and weighed about 170 pounds, police said. He was wearing a black-and-white jacket and dark pants.

#9  I lived in this community some years ago. At the time the community consisted of older people, quite a few Italians, students, and yuppie types. The community was quiet and doesn't strike me as giving way to a flash mob of kids. However, that was before social media and cell phones.

I know which one of the two of you I want watching my back.

Obama and the commiecritters are agitating so they can take over the nation, declare martial law, and "suspend" the Constitution (which cannot be done - there is nothing in federal, state, or local law about "suspending" that document). When (not if, when) that happens, all bets are off. I know which side I'll be on, and I won't care a tinker's damn what color skin or nation of origin the opponent is.

Hell no, I'm not going to Cleveland. I'm staying in Texas. I'm just pointing out which I'd prefer in case of mobs.

As for the so called 'children' aka the feral attackers in Cleveland, I recommended earlier that the cops use flamethrowers to deal with them.

Sorry but the constant barrages of things like this, the horrific murders of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, the knock out game, and all the other examples of feral vermin in this country have slowly bled out all traces of mercy, compassion and tendencies to feel sorry the uncivilized barbarians in our midst.

If and when the time comes, I will do whatever is necessary to protect myself and my family from such things. If you want mercy or sympathy, go buy a hug from a stranger. (And hopefully that stranger is Pennywise)

The Grand Turk
Turkey Gives Go-ahead for First New Church in 90 Years
With his right hand he giveth, with his left taketh away as he wills.
[AnNahar] Turkey's Islamic-rooted government has authorized the building of the first church in the country in nearly a century, officials said Saturday.

The church is for the tiny Syriac community in Turkey and will be built in the Istanbul suburb of Yesilkoy on the shores of the Sea of Marmara, which already has Greek Orthodox, Armenian and Catholic churches.

The announcement came after Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met Turkey's religious leaders in Istanbul on Friday and said no faith that has lived in the country could be regarded as foreign.

"It is the first (new church) since the creation of the republic (in 1923)," a government source told AFP.

"Churches have been restored and reopened to the public, but no new church has been built until now," he added.

Turkey, which once had large Christian minorities, is now 99 percent Moslem and critics of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) have accused it of trying to Islamicise its officially secular society.

However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
as part of its bid to join the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, Ankara has made efforts to widen minority rights and return some seized property as well as restore churches, monasteries and synagogues.

Christians now make up less than 100,000 of Turkey's population of 76 million and are sometimes the target of attacks.

But the prime minister insisted that the ruling AK Party "does not discriminate between our citizens... the principle of equal citizenship continues to be our characteristic trait," he added.

He condemned recent attacks on mosques in Europe and urged the religious leaders he met with Friday to "speak up together against Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
The country's ancient Syriac minority, which now numbers less than 20,000, live mostly in the southeast and tend to be either affiliated to the Orthodox or Catholic churches.

But their numbers have swollen in recent years by thousands of Syriac refugees first forced out of Iraq by war and sectarian violence and later by others fleeing the fighting in Syria.

During his visit to Turkey in November, Pope Francis denounced what he termed the current wave of "Christianophobia" in the Middle East, accusing Islamist murderous Moslems of "hunting" Christians.

The various Syriac churches are among the oldest surviving Christian denominations, and use Aramaic, the language of Jesus Christ, in their services.

The new Istanbul church will be built on land given by the local council and paid for by a Syriac group, the government front man said.

Two brothers arrested in India over rape of Japanese tourist
[DAWN] PATNA: Indian police have nabbed
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
two brothers accused of repeatedly raping a 22-year-old Japanese tourist over three weeks near Bodh Gaya, Buddhism's holiest site, an official said Saturday.

The tourist had been held hostage at gunpoint in a secluded underground room close to a pilgrimage site, according to a preliminary investigation.

"When her health condition deteriorated due to repeated rape and poor living conditions, she was brought to Gaya (district headquarters) for medical treatment on December 20," a police officer who is part of the investigation told AFP on condition of anonymity.

But she managed to escape and reached Varanasi where she met some Japanese tourists who helped her contact the Japanese consulate in the nearby city of Kolkata, the officer added.

Sajid Khan, 32, and his 25-year-old brother Jawed Khan, both tourist guides, were arrested in the case on Friday, police deputy superintendent Alok Kumar Singh said.

"We have arrested the duo for confining and raping the Japanese student," Singh told AFP by telephone from Bodh Gaya.

The Bodh Gaya complex, 110 kilometres south of Bihar state capital Patna, is home to one of the earliest Buddhist temples still standing in India and attracts visitors from all over the world. The Japanese woman, a university student, had come to Gaya from Kolkata where she had checked into a hotel in November.
Update from An Nahar at 10:00 ET:
Five people have now been locked away
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
for repeatedly gang-raping and extorting money from a young Japanese tourist held hostage for nearly a month in a basement close to a famous Buddhist shrine in India, officials said Sunday.

The 22-year-old's ordeal began in Kolkata, capital of West Bengal state, where she was befriended by three local men shortly after arriving on November 20, one of the city's top coppers told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The men, one of whom spoke Japanese, first managed to persuade her to withdraw around $1,200 dollars in cash before travelling with her to the holy shrine of Bodh Gaya in the neighbouring state of Bihar.

There she was then handed over to two brothers who locked her in a secluded underground room and repeatedly raped her for nearly a month.

Kolkata joint police commissioner Pallab Kanti Ghosh said the other three people were being held on suspicion of extorting money from the victim and then handing her over to the alleged rapists.

"We have arrested three people who befriended the victim in Kolkata. They have been charged with common conspiracy and intention to kidnap and rape," the commissioner said.

"The men managed to extort 76,000 rupees ($1,200) from her and convinced her to travel to Bodh Gaya with them in their car."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
India moves toward closer ties with Israel
[Ynet] Warming of relations between two nations is unmistakable albeit low-key, as bilateral trade stands in excess of $5 billion and Israel turning into India's top defense supplier.
One of the reasons why Israel is considerably less concerned about European boycotts than Europe would like. Increasing trade with China is another.
India made headlines last week when a local newspaper reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recently elected government might stop its near-automatic support for the Paleostinian Authority in the diplomatic arena. Such a move, which at this point is purely speculative, would mark a significant change in India's voting pattern in the UN and could be seen as an attempt to move closer to Israel.

"We should be very careful with this because these are media reports and no diplomats or foreign policy officials have made statements," P.R. Kumaraswamy, a professor of West Asian studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, told The Media Line. "But if that happens, then it'll be the most dramatic event in the last two decades," he said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran Rejects Controversial New Hijab Law
[AnNahar] A draft law that would give greater powers to Iran's police and volunteer militias to enforce women's compulsory wearing of the veil has been ruled unconstitutional, state media reported Saturday.

Under Islamic law in force in Iran since the 1979 revolution, women must wear loose clothing, known as hijab, that covers the head and neck and which conceals their hair.

But many now push the boundaries by wearing thin head scarves, tight leggings and fashionable coats rather than a chador, a long and traditional black garment that covers the entire body from head to toe.

This has led to claims from politicians and religious leaders that the rules are being skirted and not maintained by morality police whose job is to ensure Islamic dress code is complied with in public places.

The draft law, called the "Plan on Protection of Promoters of Virtue and Vice" was rejected by the country's influential Guardian Council, a 12-member group that scrutinizes legislation.

The official IRNA news agency, quoting a council front man, said the 24-point plan contained 14 flaws and it "contradicted the constitution and was not approved". The report did not give specifics.

However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
the council's decision is not the end of the law, under which politicians want to give members of the Basij, a religious volunteer force established by the country's revolutionary leaders, power and protection to verbally caution women they deem improperly dressed.

The council has sent the law back to parliament for amendment, IRNA said.

The wearing of hijab is an emotive issue in the Islamic republic, with supporters saying it is an essential part of Islamic culture for women, but opponents argue that it is an ill-defined legal requirement.

The draft law, which was approved by parliament in December, also aimed to place responsibility on employers to ensure hijab is observed by workers, with companies facing fines for non-compliance.

President Hassan Rouhani, who has been under pressure from hardline politicians to pursue a tougher police stand on the veil, distanced himself from the planned law in a speech on October 25.

"We should not be overly focused on one issue, such as bad hijab, to prevent vice," he said, alluding to the Islamic duty to promote virtue.
