-War on Police-
Rayshard Brooks was on probation for four crimes - including cruelty to children - and faced going back to prison if charged with a DUI, when he was found asleep and intoxicated at Wendy's drive-thru
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Rayshard Brooks was on probation and faced going back to prison if he was charged with a DUI, DailyMail.com can reveal

  • The 27-year-old was shot and killed by police after he was found asleep at a Wendy's drive-thru in Atlanta on Friday, June 12

  • He was compliant with cops but after he failed a field sobriety test and blew 0.108 when breathalyzed, Brooks suddenly resisted when cops tried to cuff him

  • Brooks was shot twice in the back as he tried to make a break for it

  • The charges to which Brooks pleaded guilty and for which he was still on probation dated back to August 2014

  • He was convicted on four counts – False Imprisonment, Simple Battery/Family, Battery Simple and Felony Cruelty/Cruelty to Children

  • Brooks had not been in trouble since 2016 until last December when he went to Ohio without informing his probation officer - but the case was dismissed

#2  So, that's HIS motive.
Why'd the cop send a bullet to catch him?
They could have coolly picked him up the next day.

#4  Got to agree with #2. Like unnecessary high speed chases, this whole thing could have been handled by picking him up later. Add running from the cops to the other charges and he's (at least on paper) going back to jail for some time. OTOH, seems jail has a bigger revolving door than the immigration courts these days.

#7  Picking him up the next day might not work. He might go into hiding. If a guy like that resists arrest, the assumption must be that he's worried about more than a DUI. He could be an armed and dangerous felon who would cause more harm if he isn't stopped immediately. His victim(s) are likely to be black. Nobody seems to consider the fact that police are protecting black citizens as well as white. All of these cases with black men getting killed by police have one thing in common. The suspect always resists arrest. When it gets down to a physical struggle like that, all bets are off.

#11  From the article:

As the interaction neared its tragic conclusion, Brooks suggested to officers that he could just walk home saying that it wasn't far.

But after Brooks failed a field sobriety test and blew 0.108 when breathalyzed (0.08 is the legal limit in Georgia), Rolfe who has since been fired, moved to cuff Brooks who suddenly resisted. Both officers were clearly taken by surprise.

If he weren’t on probation, I assume they would have helped him move his car and walk home, but once he tested above the legal alcohol limit were the police required to bring him in for breaking probation or something?

South Sudan army kills new rebel leader in Lakes State
[Sudan Tribune] South Sudanese army killed a leader of a new rebel group, the 7th October Movement, in the Lakes State, said Maj Gen (PSC) Lul Ruai Koang, the front man of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF).

A former political detainee Kerbino Agok Wol announced on 5 June, the formation of a new armed opposition group saying that the "corrupt (ruling) elite" was the root cause of the political crisis in the country.

Wol was killed at Ayen Mayar village, Rumbek East County, Lakes State on Sunday 14 June.

He "was killed along with three fighters, local youth leader (Monydiar Maker Mangar) who hosted him, Son of youth leader was killed, (while) his wife and 2nd son sustained gunshot wounds," Koang told Sudan Tribune on Monday.

"The injured are receiving treatment at Rumbek hospital," he added.

Asked about the circumstances of the killing, the SSPDF said they had received intelligence that provided justifiable reasons to launch pre-emptive offensive operations, without elaborating about the nature of these reasons.

"SSPDF had succeeded in containing a rebellion at infancy," he further said.

Sudan Tribune received photos showing Kerbino’s body on the ground surrounded by soldiers. He was maimed by a bullet on his left cheek.

Born in 1982, he joined the SPLA at the age of twelve, becoming a member of the "Red Army," a contingent of child soldiers, after the arrival of his family to a refugees camp in Æthiopia.

Wol were tossed into the calaboose on 27 April 2018 without charge and incarcerated at the Blue House in Juba. After the riot of 7 October 2018, he had been imprisoned for 10 years for taking part in the organized insurrection by the inmates of the detention facility.

President Kiir, however, pardoned him and he was released on 3 January 2020, as part of the government commitment to create a conducive environment for peace implementation.

Nonprofit group spends fraction of $30M raised to bail out Floyd protesters
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] A nonprofit organization raising money to bail George Floyd protesters out of jail is under fire for allegedly spending only a fraction of what it raised on that cause.

The Minnesota Freedom Fund says it has spent over $200,000 it raised to bail out protesters, despite raising $30 million, which has sparked criticism on social media, according to the New York Post.

"Without jeopardizing the safety of the folks we bailed out we paid well over $200k in the weeks since the uprising alone," the fund tweeted Monday. "We are working on doing more."

Some Twitter users were incensed by the news and started posting about the situation, which ultimately resulted in "35 MILLION" and "only 200k" trending on Twitter.

"Return the money to people NOW. Before we find a way to take it back anyway," one person responded. "Raised 35 million and only 200k went to bail funds? Absolutely no justification for that."

Another user responded, "Nah, we want receipts. You received millions."

"This sounds familiar," journalist Andy Ngo posted along with a tweet criticizing another similar organization for alleged dishonest fundraising.

Trump Admin Targets VOA Persian, Alleging Pro-Iran Bias
[WashFreeBeacon] After years of complaints, administration pushes major reform at VOA’s Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. service.

The Trump administration is seeking to implement a series of major reforms at Voice of America's Persian News Network, an effort that comes after years of complaints alleging the outlet has exhibited a pro-Iran bias in its reporting, senior U.S. officials told the Washington Free Beacon.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
PA security confirms shredding documents, fearing Israeli raids amid volatility
[IsraelTimes] If Israel goes ahead with annexation, PA concerned IDF may seize confidential documents, as it did during Second Intifada.

Paleostinian security services have been destroying secret documents, fearing possible Israeli raids on their offices as the Jewish State weighs annexing parts of the West Bank, Paleostinian security sources confirm.

"We have been ordered to destroy confidential documents in our possession and we have obeyed this order," a security source told AFP on condition of anonymity, saying that the instructions came from "high up."

The statement confirmed reports on Monday of the planned move.

During the Second Intifada, which erupted in the early 2000s and included waves of suicide kabooms, Israeli security forces repeatedly stormed offices of the Paleostinian security services and removed confidential documents.

Several Paleostinian security sources, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, said the services are concerned that this could happen again if Israel moves ahead with annexation.

Announced at the end of January in Washington, US President Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons......
’s Mideast peace plan envisions the annexation by Israel of its settlements and of the Jordan Valley in the West Bank.

One Paleostinian security source, who did not describe the nature of the documents, said the security services began destroying them a month ago, after Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....
said he was ending security coordination with Israel.

Two other security sources said some documents were destroyed after they were scanned and transferred to USB drives, which were then placed in "secret places."

According to the 1993 Oslo Accords, the Paleostinian Authority controls all Paleostinian cities in the West Bank, but the Israeli military can enter them to make arrests, in coordination with local authorities.

But in mid-May, Abbas declared that he no longer felt bound by the treaties, saying that Israel’s annexation plans showed that it was no longer honoring the agreements.

Analysts said the end of security cooperation could inflame unrest in the West Bank.

Paleostinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh recently warned of a "hot summer" if Israel goes ahead with its annexation plan.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Nasrallah threatens US, protesters amid economic turmoil - Explainer
[JPost] Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah gave a speech on Tuesday threatening to kill anyone who tries to take away Hezbollah’s weapons. "To anyone who gives us the option of dying with our weapons or of starvation, I say that the weapons will remain in our hands and we will not go hungry, we will kill you. We will kill you." The harsh rhetoric exceeded the usual boasting by Hezbollah and was a direct threat to the US and internal Lebanese protesters that any pressure on Hezbollah will be met with violence. Hezbollah is angry that US sanctions on Syria are harming the economy in Lebanon and that there are voices who think Hezbollah should stop maintaining itself as an armed force within Lebanon.
Cry me a river
The long speech was reprinted at Iran’s Fars News and was tweeted online in translation by expert David Daoud. The speech was wide ranging and touched on several key topics. He began by memorializing a Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader named Ramadan Shallah who died on June 7. Islamic Jihad is supported by Iran and Hezbollah. It has been the source of attacks on Israel over the past years and Israel has targeted its members. Nasrallah said Palestinians are under threat of Israeli annexation and must unify. He spoke about unifying the Islamic "ummah" in the face of Israel and that Shi’ites and Sunnis should work together. Iran and Turkish leaders have also said this in recent weeks.
Because they've gotten along so well over the last 1300 years
Hezbollah wants to try to unite Shi’ites and Sunnis under its banner to fight the US and others. This was clear from the speech. Nasrallah fears sectarianism or a return to civil strife. Hezbollah, it must be remembered, emerged during the civil war in Lebanon and emerged stronger after it. Hezbollah took credit for Israel’s withdrawal in 2005 and then murdered the Prime Minister of Lebanon Rafic Hariri in 2005. In 2008 it clashed with protesters in Beirut and took over Beirut in a show of force. Since then it has held the presidency hostage, maneuvered its people into the presidency and Prime Minister’s office and sent forces to fight in Syria and to Iraq. Hezbollah now wants to be the arbiter of Lebanon’s future and it knows that sectarian strife can undermine that.

Iran to execute alleged CIA agent involved in Soleimani's killing
[Jpost] An Iranian citizen who allegedly provided information to US and Israeli intelligence services on the whereabouts of Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps slain commander Qassem Soleimani will be executed soon, Iran's judiciary said on Tuesday.

On January 3, a US drone strike in Iraq killed Soleimani. Though on the record Israel has taken no credit, Israeli intelligence was instrumental in the targeted killing, NBC News reported at the time and The Jerusalem Post has independently confirmed. Jerusalem often prefers to keep a low profile on any role in such operations to reduce the chance of retaliation.

After flying to Iraq from Damascus on a Cham Wings Airbus A320, he and his security entourage were killed by four US hellfire missiles targeting their two vehicles as they were leaving Baghdad International Airport. Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, an important leader of the Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization Forces, was also killed.

According to NBC and Reuters, and confirmed by the Post, informants in Damascus were able to tip off the CIA about exactly which plane Soleimani would be on, which Israeli intelligence confirmed and verified.

Reuters was told in January by Iraqi investigators that the US had inside help from two security staffers at the Baghdad airport and two Cham Wings employees: “a spy at the Damascus airport and another one working on board the airplane,” the source said. Iraqi national security agency’s investigators believe the four suspects, who have not been arrested, worked as part of a wider group of people feeding information to the US military, the official said.

"Mahmoud Mousavi-Majd, one of the spies for the CIA and Mossad, has been sentenced to death. He gave the whereabouts of martyr Soleimani to our enemies," judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili said in a televised news conference.

Officials have not said whether Mousavi-Majd's case is linked to Iran’s announcement last summer that it had captured 17 spies working for the CIA, some of whom it said were sentenced to death.

It was also unclear to what extent Iran, Iraq and Syria have caught others involved in tracking and planning the Soleimani killing.

Finally, Iran often announces fake arrests of supposed CIA or Mossad spies who are really just Iranians in the political opposition which the regime wants to remove from influence. Accusing such opposition officials of being foreign spies is always a convenient excuse.

According to The New York Times, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was likely the only US ally in the know regarding the assassination, having spoken to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo beforehand.

Yisrael Beytenu head Avigdor Liberman said in January that the Times report was based on Israeli sources, which he noted was poor judgment.

Iran responded with missile strikes on US bases in Iraq. Those strikes failed to kill any US troops, however, and Trump declared the crisis over.
