Interior Ministry rejects Taliban’s claims regarding the release of 76 security personnel
[KhaamaPress] The Ministry of Interior has rejected the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
claims regarding the release of 76 security personnel who were being kept in group’s prisons.

The interior ministry said in a statement said the group has claimed that it has released 76 security personnel in Kunduz, Uruzgan, Khost and Sar-e-Pul
...a city and eponymous province in northern Afghanistan, population about 500,000. Demographically it is majority Tadjik and Uzbek. There are small Pashtun, Arab, and Hazara communities, of which the Hazaras mostly don't bother anyone...
provinces on the occasion of Eid.

The statement further added that the findings of the ministry and information received from the provinces confirms that the group has released no captive soldier.

Furthermore, the interior ministry said Taliban has issued the statement with an aim to spread propaganda as no captive soldier has been released during the recent days.

The interior ministry also added that Taliban should prove and show to the people of Afghanistan if they have really decided or willing to release the inmates.

No changes in U.S. forces operations in Afghanistan: U.S. Military
[KhaamaPress] The U.S. military in Afghanistan has rejected the reports suggesting that the U.S. forces have drawn back operations against the holy warrior groups in the country.

The Newsweek magazine earlier reported that the U.S.-led operations against Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
in Afghanistan have significantly reduced or halted as the Pentagon continues to plan for a potential withdrawal of thousands of U.S. forces from its longest conflict ever.

The magazine also reported that it has learnt from Pentagon brasshats that U.S. personnel have been ordered to limit nearly all offensive combat operations against the Taliban and cease advising the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces as the Trump administration proposes cutting U.S. troop strength in Afghanistan by nearly half to 6,000 as a means of finalizing "technical" details among Taliban leadership.

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
Col. Sonny Leggett, the USFOR-A front man, said "This article is inaccurate and speculative, citing unnamed sources who are likely as far from the subject as they are from Afghanistan itself."
Ooooooh, ouch. I suspect the good colonel used different words inside his head...
Col. Leggett further added "The characterizations of changes to our authorities and operations have no basis in fact. We have no such orders and have made no such changes."

This comes as the 8th round of peace talks between the U.S. and Taliban representatives recently concluded in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...

Detained Shiite leader leaves Nigeria for medical treatment
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Nigerian Shiite leader Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife, detained by the authorities since 2015, flew out of the country to receive medical treatment in India on Monday, his supporters and lawyer said.

"The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife have at last just left Nigeria for India alongside some family members and security operatives," his supporters said in a statement.

Zakzaky, a Shiite holy man, was arrested in December 2015 after the Nigerian government stormed the IMN’s offices, resulting in approximately 350 deaths. The IMN has since been campaigning for his release, with protests often turning violent.

Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
also campaigned for Zakzaky’s release and continues to provide financial and political support to the INM, which has been described as an Iranian proxy group.

In a letter to the Nigerian judicial authorities on July 20, 2019, Iran’s Attorney-General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri criticized the Nigerian government for its treatment of Zakzaky and requested to have him transferred to Iran for treatment, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

A week later, Iran’s US-sanctioned Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif "pursued Zakzaky’s situation diplomatically" during a trip to Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
, according to Iran’s foreign front man Abbas Mousavi.

On Saturday Zakzaky’s brother accused Iran of converting Zakzaky and said the IMN should be proscribed for causing terror, according to an interview with Nigeria’s Punch Newspapers.

The INM, which was founded by Zakzaky in the early 1980s after he visited post-revolution Iran, draws inspiration from Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ruhollah Khomeini.

The group has been banned and designated as a terrorist organization by the Nigerian government, amid fears that its military-trained members may launch an insurgency against Sunni President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, whose authority it rejects.

FBI Seeking To Question Alleged Al-Qaeda Operative In Brazil
“Ready the mustache wax and the coffee and cookies in the break room, George — it’s going to be a long night.”
[Jpost] The US Federal Bureau of Investigation is seeking to question an alleged Egyptian al-Qaeda operative believed to be living in Brazil, and the South American country has pledged to cooperate with the United States in any way it can.

The FBI added Mohammed Ahmed Elsayed Ahmed Ibrahim to its Most Wanted list on Monday, saying he was being sought "for questioning in connection with his alleged role as an al-Qaeda operative and controller who has allegedly been involved in plotting attacks against the United States and its interests."

The FBI said he had been "providing material support" since about 2013 for al-Qaeda, the group behind the September 11 attacks in New York in 2001. It said he was born in Egypt in 1977 and is currently living in Brazil.

In a joint statement on Monday, Brazil's justice and foreign affairs ministries said the Egyptian had entered Brazil in 2018 and was a legal resident in the country.

"The Brazilian government is open to cooperating with US authorities on its request, in accordance with our law, and is following the case," the statement said.

Brazil's far-right President Jair Bolsonaro is working to forge closer ties with US President Donald Trump
...Oh, noze! Not him!...
, an ideological ally who has proposed a bilateral trade pact between the two largest economies in the Americas.

Security cooperation between the two countries has long been strong, with US and Brazilian officials working closely together on drug and weapons smuggling cases. The United States has long been concerned by suspected holy warriors from organizations such as Hezbollah who live and operate in Brazil.

No Harm In J&k Policy. It's Good For People : Ex-PDP separatist Leader
Liveblogging events in Kashmir:
[FirstPost] No harm in J&K becoming Union Territory if people benefit from it: Ex-PDP leader Farooq Ahmed Dar

Dismissing concerns about Jammu and Kashmir becoming two union territories, former PDP leader Farooq Ahmed Dar said there is no harm if people benefit from it.

He cited the example of New Delhi, asserting that the national capital has continued to develop even though, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is frequently locked in confrontations with the Union government.

"If people can benefit from a UT status, what's the harm?" he asked, pointing out that the state has never developed beyond being a "consumer state" since 1947.

"We were a consumer state in 1947 and are a consumer state in 2019. We were dependent on outside supply and we are dependent even now," said Dar.
Probably the only guy not in house arrest right now, and the first to fold in the face of bleak future prospects as a politician. Has Kashmir found its next Chief Minister ?

The case for abrogating Article 370
[Dhaka Tribune] The abrogation of Article 370 has been a long-standing issue. Meant to be a temporary provision, it had over the years taken on an amoebic permanence because of a lack of political will.

As a result, this provision was used to perpetuate rights violations in the state of Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
as well as fuel separatist sentiments. Politics in the state has been controlled by a handful of families from the valley who have grown in wealth and influence. These dynasties have controlled the destiny of the state and their rule has led to a feeling of exclusion amongst the people of Ladakh and Jammu. In the valley their political opportunism and back and forth power arrangement, has created a disenchantment with mainstream politics.

'Muslim Pakistan Prime Minister Compares India Prime Minister To Nazis, Hitler
[DailyWire] Imran Khan, the prime minister of Pakistan, took to Twitter early Sunday morning
Oh noze! He’s a tweeting twit — whatever will India do now?
to compare India's prime minister, Narendra Modi, and his policies to those of Hitler and the Nazis.
But no mention Santa or Jethro Tull
"The curfew, crackdown & impending genocide of Kashmiris in [India-occupied Kashmir] is unfolding exactly acc to RSS ideology inspired by Nazi ideology," Khan tweeted, referring to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh right-wing political organization. "Attempt is to change demography of Kashmir through ethnic cleansing. Question is: Will the world watch & appease as they did Hitler at Munich?"

Indian-controlled Kashmir, one of the world's most sensitive regions, remains in lockdown amid a communications blackout, with landline connections, internet and mobile coverage all suspended. Tens of thousands of additional Indian troops have also been deployed into the already heavily militarized region to head off unrest after the government in New Delhi moved to scrap the region's special status.

Politicians have reportedly been detained, journalists restricted in their reporting and human rights groups have warned of potential abuses due to the lack of international oversight enabled by the communications blackout.

The region previously had autonomy, but that was revoked earlier this month.

Khan's office told CNN that he has been contacting world leader's in an attempt to return Jammu and Kashmir's autonomy. His foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, told the outlet he would press the issue at the United Nations Security Council.
Weird it has been Islamists that seek to carry out the Final Solution to completion.

Arrest warrant against Tharoor over ‘Hindu Pakistan’ remark
[Daily Excelsior] A city court on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor over his alleged remark that the BJP will rewrite the Constitution and pave the way for creation of a "Hindu Pakistain".

Tharoor’s alleged statement had sparked off a controversy with the saffron party demanding an apology from the Congress leader.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dipanjan Sen issued a bailable warrant against Tharoor on a petition by lawyer Sumit Chowdhury, who claimed the statement promoted disharmony.

'Time needed to restore order in Kashmir,' says Indian apex court as govt claims easing restrictions in phases
[DAWN] Indian authorities need more time to restore order in Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
, a Supreme Court justice said on Tuesday as a security clampdown entered a ninth day since New Delhi revoked the region's special status, triggering protests.

The court is hearing an activist's petition seeking to lift curbs on communications and movement that have disrupted normal life and essential services in the Himalayan region.

Telephone lines, internet and television networks have been blocked since August 5 when India withdrew occupied Jammu and Kashmir's right to frame its own laws and allowed non-residents to buy property there.

Restrictions on movement and assembly, including a ban on gatherings of more than four people, were tightly enforced on Tuesday in the region's main city, Srinagar.

Menaka Guruswamy, a lawyer for the petitioner, said the court should move to restore hospital services and open schools.

"That is all I ask," she told the Supreme Court in New Delhi.

Justice Arun Mishra said the government wanted to bring Kashmir back to normal as soon as possible.

"The situation is such that nobody knows what is going on. We should give them time to restore normality. Nobody can take one per cent of chance," Mishra said. "Who will be responsible if something really bad happens tomorrow?"
Al Ahram adds:
The reaction to India's unprecedented move has so far been largely subdued. But anti-India protests and clashes have occurred daily, mostly as soldiers withdraw from the streets at dusk. Though the scale of the lockdown is unprecedented, civil resistance to Indian rule is not uncommon in Kashmir, and young men have hurled stones and abuse at police and soldiers.

Indian troops patrolling the disputed region allowed some Muslims to walk to mosques to mark the Eid al-Adha festival on Monday, and shops were opened briefly on previous days.

The lockdown is expected to last at least through Thursday, India's independence day.

An uneasy calm continued to prevail along the Line of Control in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, where residents of Chakothi, a remote border town, said they were living in a state of uncertainty.

Jalal Hanif, a shop owner, said there had been no exchange of fire in Chakothi or elsewhere in Pakistan's part of Kashmir since New Delhi imposed the changes.

``But whenever Indian troops open fire, shells and mortars hit our bazaar and homes,'' he said. Hanif said those who can afford to have built bunkers to protect themselves.

Oil prices fall on demand concerns, rising US output
[DAWN] Oil prices fell on Tuesday on lingering concerns over global demand and rising US production, though expectations for major producers to further curtail output offered support.

Brent crude futures LCOc1 were down 20 cents or 0.3% from the previous settlement at $58.29 a barrel by 0643 GMT. The international benchmark has lost over 20% since hitting its 2019 high in April.

US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) CLc1 futures were at $54.69 per barrel, down 24 cents or 0.4%.

A deepening trade war between the United States and China, the world’s two largest economies and energy consumers, has weighed heavily on oil prices in recent months.

China’s central bank lowered its official yuan midpoint for the ninth straight day to a fresh 11-year low on Tuesday. A weaker yuan raises the cost of dollar-denominated oil imports into China, the world’s biggest crude oil importer.

Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the de-facto leader of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), said last week it plans to keep its crude exports below 7 million barrels a day in August and September to help drain global oil inventories.

This is one of the factors preventing China from major yuan devaluation; the Chinese military uses a lot of oil and they have a budget.

Iraq
Remains of 31 unidentified 'enforced disappearance' victims buried in Karbala
[Rudaw] The bodies of 31 victims of ’enforced disappearance’ were buried in a Karbala cemetery by a Hashd al-Shaabi affiliated organization on Tuesday, a move panned by Iraqi politicians.

The bodies had been stored in a hospital in the nearby city of Hillah since 2014, according to an official letter by the forensic medicine division of Babel governorate's health department issued on July 29. They were taken from Hillah hospital in northern Babel to Karbala by Raad al-Shook, head of the Fatima al-Zahra organization.

Fatima al-Zahra claim to provide "logistical support" to Hashd al-Shaabi (otherwise known as the Popular Mobilization Forces, or PMF), for which they have received awards from Hashd leaders.

Monday’s burial is one of a series that have been conducted by the organization.

Hadi al-Shimari, a Fatima al-Zahra member, said the organization has buried a total of 231 bodies that had been stored in Hillah hospital’s forensic medicine facility.

"We buried 125 bodies in the first stage, 75 bodies in the second stage, while the 31 bodies is the [current] third stage of the project," al-Shimari stated in an interview with al-Jazeera on Monday.

The bodies are believed to belong to civilians disappeared from the town of Jurf al-Sakhir in northern Babel province in 2014 after the town was recaptured by the Iraqi army and PMF paramilitias.

Strategically located between Sunni krazed killer strongholds in Anbar governorate and the Shiite holy city of Karbala, Jurf al-Sakhir witnessed heavy fighting between ISIS and Iraqi government forces for months.

The Iraqi military, backed by Shiite militias, recaptured Jurf al-Sakhir from ISIS in October 2014.

A September 2018 Human Rights Watch report accused notorious Hashd branch Kata’ib Hezbollah of arbitrary detention and the enforced disappearances of mostly Sunni men and boys in and around Jurf al-Sakhir between July 2014 and October 2017.

Government silence and inaction in the burying of unidentified bodies as sparked anger among Iraqi officials.

Former Iraqi parliament speaker Osama al-Nujaifi threatened to invite international delegations to supervise a re-exhuming of the buried bodies in Karbala if government silence continued.

Former Iraqi defense minister Khalid al-Obaidi on Monday condemned the "barbaric" burials for occurring without DNA testing to identify the individuals and to give the victims’ families closure.

A Tuesday statement by the predominantly Shiite al-Nasr coalition, led by former Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, also condemned the burials, but asked all political parties to avoid stoking sectarian tension when discussing the incident, and for government measures to prevent any potential sectarian violence in its wake.

All three statements claimed that some of the bodies had been partially dismembered, including those of women and kiddies.

The Iraqi government has come under criticism for procedures surrounding mass grave excavation in Samawa, southern Iraq, where DNA testing is not taking place on the recently exhumed remains of Kurdish civilians killed during the Saddam Hussein-orchestrated Anfal genocide.

"I have criticized the Iraqi government several times, demanding there should be DNA tests for the mass graves by the Iraqi government to help the families identify the graves of their relatives because that is their right and that is the duty of the Iraqi government," Anfal survivor Hedar Zubir Barzani, whose father was taken away during the Anfal campaign, told Rudaw on July 23.

Iranian businessman tortured into saying he's an Israeli spy
Now we know.
[Jpost] A former Iranian businessman says he was tortured by Iranian authorities into a false confession of being an Israeli spy and killing Iranian nuclear scientists, according to BBC.

Mazyar Ebrahimi now lives in Germany.

In 2012, Ebrahimi and 12 others appeared on Iranian state television

and assassinated Iranian nuclear scientists.

The people were given a script to read written by the Iranian Intelligence Ministry. The ministry also put out its own statement saying they dismantled an spy network created by the Zionist entity.

BBC's Jiyar Gol sat down with Ebrahimi to hear his story.

"The interrogators were hitting the soles of my bare feet with a thick electric cable," Ebrahimi said. "They broke my foot. The beating continued for seven months."

He said he finally agreed to "confess" after being tortured around the clock for 40 days.

Before he was arrested, Mazyar Ebrahimi owned a company that set up TV studios, and he believes one of his competitors falsely accused him of spying.

Four Iranian nuclear scientists were assassinated between 2010-2012 and the government wanted to find the culprits of the crime. More than 100 people were accused of being foreign spies.

Ebrahimi told the BBC that he was ready to admit to anything because he wanted to die.

His interrogators asked him to admit being behind a blast that destroyed a missile factory run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), killing multiple missile experts.

An IRGC intelligence officer began questioning Ebrahimi and realized there were multiple discrepancies between his testimony and the actual event.

Ebrahimi was given apologies by the Intelligence Ministry but remained in jail until 2015. After his release, Ebrahimi filed a complaint against newspapers, the Iranian state TV and against the Intelligence Ministry but withdrew the complaint.

He is now living in Germany, having sought asylum there six months ago.
