[AnNahar] Afghan security personnel have abandoned nearly 200 checkpoints in restive Kandahar province in recent weeks, officials said Wednesday, in some cases leaving behind their weapons to be seized by the Taliban ...Arabic for students... Kandahar provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat and a local politician separately confirmed the situation to AFP, saying commanders would be disciplined for their actions.
The defence ministry in Kabul denied the reports, insisting government forces had been making progress in the region.
Government forces and the Taliban have clashed regularly in Kandahar province since October despite peace talks between the warring sides.
"Afghan cops have retreated from 193 checkpoints and outposts in Zharai, Maiwand, Arghandab and Panjwai districts," Kandahar provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat told AFP.
"Most of the security chiefs and officers who neglected their duties have been dismissed and referred to the judiciary."
Kandahar politician Hashim Alkhozai and a local police officer confirmed the details to AFP.
"The security forces exited the bases leaving behind their weapons and ammunition," Alkhozai said.
Most of those who left were soldiers, said Jan Mohammad, a policeman from Zharai district.
"They left without firing a bullet," he said.
"The Taliban now have all the weapons seized from the army and are using them against us."
Governor Hayat blamed "poor coordination" for the situation amid a shortage of police and troops.
Kandahar is the birthplace of the Taliban, who went on to rule Afghanistan with a harsh version of Islamic sharia law until being tossed by a US-led invasion in 2001.
Since a US-Taliban deal in February, the forces of Evil have mostly refrained from carrying out major attacks on cities, but have launched near-daily assaults against Afghan forces in rural areas.

[ToloNews] The Afghan Counter Narcotics Justice Center (CNJC) on Wednesday reported that it has dismantled a sophisticated drug network in Kabul and nabbed a 23-year-old female university student running the network.
According to CNJC, the network was mainly involved in the smuggling of heroin to India and the government had been tracing the network for three years.
CNJC said that the drug network was operating under the cover of a charity organization supporting women and then selecting suitable people from among them to smuggle heroin to India.

Reported indicate a large number of weapons and ammunition were seized by the Afghan security force members during the operation.
"10 people were also arrested on charges of collaborating with terrorist groups and committing criminal offenses," the statement added.
In a separate incident, the Ministry of Interior Tweeted, that a Mine planter was killed in a clash with the Afghan national police.
He was discovered planting a mine in the Sara Qala area of Daman district located in Kandahar province.
The mine planter was killed on the spot by the Afghan National Police forces, and many people were saved from harm, Moi tweeted.

[Khaama] At least three French soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb incident on Monday in the Hombori region in Mali, according to French media their armored vehicle struck an explosive device.
The killed soldiers belong to France’s Operation Barkhane mission, an operation to fight extremist insurgency in the Sahel region of Africa.
As part of 5000 troops, they were working in an area "where terrorist groups are attacking civilians and threatening the regional stability", Florence Parly, French Defense Minister was quoted by VOA.
These soldiers were identified as 28-year-old Brig. Chief Tanerii Mauri, Fighters 1st Class Dorian Issakhanian23 and Quentin Pauchet, 21.
French President, Emmanuel Macron stated, that "France’s determination to continue the fight against terrorism" and praised the efforts of French soldiers in the troubled region.
VOA reported that earlier in September in a similar incident in northern mali, two French soldiers were killed and one was wounded with their armed vehicle hit an explosive device.
Since January 2013, 44 soldiers have died in the Sahel.

Following the attack, RT Arabic released a video from the scene of the airport, showing the damage caused by the powerful explosions on Wednesday.
The Yemeni government has yet to release a corpse count from today’s explosion.

[Khaama] Four Pakistani soldiers including two pilots were killed when a military helicopter crashed in the Northern areas of the country, the Pakistani military said on Saturday.
Pakistani army stated, the helicopter crashed due to technical issues during a casualty evacuation operation in the Minimarg area of Gilgit Baltistan, both pilots Major M. Hussain and Co-Pilot Major Ayaz Hussain were killed.
Naik Inziman Alam and Muhammad Farooq were the soldiers also killed during the crash incident, the Pakistani army confirmed to media.
The chopper was carrying a dead soldier's body, Abdul Qadeer to the Combined Military hospital in Skardu when the crash happened. His condition didn't improve

Fakhrizadeh, a prominent nuclear scientist, was killed in November in an attack Iran believes was perpetrated by Israel.
The reported deployment of Iranian military hardware to Iraq comes amid renewed tensions between the US and Iran in the wake of an attack on the US Embassy in Baghdad, which Trump blamed on Iran.

A US "ninja" missile was used against a truck in Salqin, Syria, locals said on Tuesday. This is the R9X missile which is a modified Hellfire missile that can be launched from US armed drones, such as the Reaper. The US has used it around a half-dozen times in northern Syria against individuals linked to al-Qaeda or krazed killers. The missile, because it has swords that pop out in place of a warhead, carves up the target on impact, leaving a bloody mess but not harming others nearby.
Salqin is a town in the rolling hills near the Ottoman Turkish border, about a dozen kilometers from the border town of Reyhanli in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire... . This is an area where ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi also operated before a US raid in October 2019. In fact, Barisha, where Baghdadi was killed, is about a 30-kilometer drive from Salqin. A good driver can do this trip in 45 minutes on winding roads. The area has been run by turbans for much of the Syrian Civil War and Turkey now occupies many areas around there.
Turkey also illegally occupied Afrin in northern Syria, an area it ethnically cleansed of Kurds and sent Syrian turbans it recruited to control. This is now a hot bed of krazed killer groups that have origins or links sometimes to al-Qaeda. These groups operate openly under Ottoman Turkish protection. Turkey is a member of NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis.... but many ISIS members have found refuge in Turkey or transited through Turkey to parts of Syria. Turkey also hosts Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, terrorists.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the attack in Deir Ezzor province targeted a bus carrying regime soldiers going home on leave.
"It was one of the deadliest attacks since the fall of the IS (self-proclaimed) caliphate" last year, Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.
The official news agency SANA reported that a "terrorist attack" on a bus killed "25 citizens" and maimed 13.
Abdel Rahman said the bus was ambushed near the village of Shula by jihadists who detonated bombs before opening fire.
Two other buses which were part of the convoy managed to escape, the war monitor said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
The group was defeated in Syria in March last year but sleeper cells continue to launch attacks namely in Syria's vast desert that stretches from the central province of Homs to Deir Ezzor and the border with Iraq. In April, 27 fighters loyal to the Damascus government and allied Iran-backed snuffies were killed in an IS attack near the desert city of al-Sukhna.
The war in Syria has killed more than 387,000 people since it started in 2011, the Observatory says. The dead include more than 130,500 pro-government fighters, among them foreigners.

According to a field report from the Idlib Governorate, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State... (HTS) attacked the Syrian Arab Army’s positions in the Saraqib countryside, as they attempted to infiltrate into the town of of Afs, which also has a presence of Russian military police.
The report said the Syrian Arab Army was able to defeat the infiltration attempt by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, ultimately forcing them to withdraw to their previous lines after suffering heavy casualties at the hands of the SAA.
This latest attack comes at a time when the towns of al-Fateera, Kansafra and Sufouhn in the Jabal al-Zawiya countryside of Idlib witness intense attacks by the jihadist rebels, including Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and Ottoman Turkish-backed Death Eater groups.
Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham is one of the largest jihadist groups inside Syria; they are primarily based in the Idlib Governorate, but they also maintain a large presence in the Latakia, Hama and Latakia governorates of northwestern Syria.

According to the latest reports from northwestern Syria, the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces withdrew from their observation post in the Tal al-Akhdar area of southwest Aleppo, leaving the point for the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to establish full control over it.
The Sputnik News Agency filmed the withdrawal of the Ottoman Turkish army troops from Tal al-Akhdar, showing them leaving the observation post after occupying this area for several months in 2020.

The news site reported that the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces were escorted by the Russian military police, who were later attacked by forces of Evil in the southeastern region of the Idlib Governorate on Tuesday.
According to the Russian Reconciliation Center, the military police were attacked near the city of Saraqib, which is located along an imperative highway that links the cities of Idlib and Aleppo.
The withdrawal of the Ottoman Turkish forces from Tal al-Akhdar comes about 20 days after the start of operations to dismantle the point and its contents, including equipment, fortifications and logistical equipment.
The number of trucks leaving the point reached nearly 20, and according to what was monitored by the Sputnik correspondent in Aleppo, the trucks carried prefabricated rooms on board, and cut the concrete wall that surrounded the point, as well as several military vehicles belonging to the Ottoman Turkish forces, and other heavy vehicles.
As a result of this withdrawal, the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces no longer control any observation posts within the territories of the Syrian Arab Army in northwestern Syria.
[AlMasdar] The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday evening that three Russian soldiers were maimed as bully boyz targeted their tanker in the southeastern region of the Idlib Governorate to stop the escalation.

The SDF, along with the U.S.-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, performed other raids Sunday, VOA News said.
Recently, ISIS cell activity has increased, an explosive device targeting an SDF vehicle killed one person and injured another in the province on Saturday, the U.S. government outlet reported. ISIS fighters have increasingly targeted Syrian troops and allied militias in central Syria.
