#1  Sally Blane was an American actress who appeared in over 100 movies.
Although this lovely, light brown-haired leading lady would wind up better known as one of Loretta Young's two elder acting sisters, Sally Blane nevertheless enjoyed a lively albeit modest "B" film career during the late 1920s and 1930s. The resemblance to her "A"-level sister was very strong -- the same graceful, elongated face and fawn-like, wide-set eyes. Unlike her younger sister, however, Sally lacked strong determination and ambition. Although she remained on the second or third Hollywood tier throughout her career, her film output was considerable if mostly routine.

Born: Elizabeth Jane Young,
July 11, 1910, Salida, Colorado, U.S.
Died: August 27, 1997, Los Angeles, California, U.S.

Officer shot to death in Bradley, another critical
The perp
[WGNTV] BRADLEY, Ill. — Police are searching for a suspect after an officer was fatally shot and another was critically injured in Bradley.

The shooting took place at a Comfort Inn Hotel on the 1500 block of Illinois Highway 50 around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The hotel sits on the perimeter of Bradley’s Northfield Square Mall, which is right off of I-57.

Police said officers responded to reports of dogs barking in an unattended car parked in the parking lot. When they arrived, police found the room where the car’s possible owner was staying.

Officer Marlene Rittmanic and another officer had a conversation with multiple people inside the room and were then attacked and shot.

The two officers were transported to an area hospital at death's door. Rittmanic was later pronounced dead. The other officer underwent surgery.

The suspect, 25-year-old Darius Sullivan, is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Police are also searching for a second person of interest that may also have been involved in the incident.

Sudanese Security forces clash with anti-coup protesters
[DW] Doctors have accused security forces of firing live rounds at pro-democracy demonstrators and killing four of them.

Security forces fired teargas and live rounds at anti-coup protesters demonstrating across Sudan on Thursday. The Sudan Doctors Committee said soldiers and police shot and killed at least four people in the city of Omdurman.

The independent group added many demonstrators were maimed in the violent mostly peaceful festivities.

According to eyewitnesses, similar scenes played out elsewhere in the country.

In the capitol Khartoum demonstrators came close to the presidential palace, currently the headquarters of the military chief, General Abdel-Fattah Burhan, before they were met by a heavy security presence.

The government sealed off large parts of the city and shut down the internet and other communications services. Shipping containers were used to block the bridges over the Nile that connect Khartoum with the northern suburbs and the city of Omdurman.

Over the weekend, the bridges were similarly blocked during protests involving tens of thousands of people.

WHY ARE THERE PROTESTS?
Pro-democracy activists have been able to maintain momentum on the streets for their movement against the October 25 coup. On that day, the military deposed civilian Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok. Forces held him under house arrest for weeks.

In November, the US sealed a partnership deal with Hamdok. It saw him reinstated with elections promised for 2023, though his credibility took a blow in the process. Critics assert that the deal was a present for the military and provided the veneer of legitimacy to the coup.

Protesters are calling for a return to civilian rule.

Sudan still lacks a functioning state.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED DURING THE PROTESTS?
The Independent Doctors Committee charges that Sudanese security forces have caused 52 deaths in their efforts to squash the protests.

The UN said at least 13 women and girls were raped during protests on December 19. Activists have also condemned the sexual violence that day.

Much international aid was cut following the coup and has yet to resume in earnest. Major aid organizations see even a semifunctioning state as a requisite for the resumption of funds and services.

Al-Shabaab briefly seizes Bal'ad town in Somalia
[Garowe] The al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

gunnies have taken briefly the control of Bal'ad town in the northwest of Somalia, in the latest showdown which comes amid escalating political tensions in the Horn of Africa nation, which is battling with instability.

Reports indicate that the gunnies stormed the town which is 37 kilometers north of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia on Thursday morning, further controlling the town, which is strategic for the military within the surrounding vicinity.

The gunnies launched a series of attacks in the town before taking full control, eyewitnesses said. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
the number of casualties is yet to be determined but the town is found in Hirshabelle, a state prone to such attacks.

But latest reports indicate the Somali National Army [SNA] have since repelled al-Shabaab's temporary seizure of Bal'ad town in Somalia. The soldiers are said to have opened fire to resist the seizure before succeeding to chase the gunnies out of the town.

Further, military sources claim at least three al-Shabaab bad boyz were potted when the army resisted the take over of the town. Throughout the fight against al-Shabaab in Somalia, the military has often used Bal'ad as a strategic town while launching operations.

The incident comes after a report compiled by Financial Times reported that the current political impasse in Somalia has triggered a resurgence of al-Shabaab hard boyz in the country. According to the report, the gunnies are taking advantage.

Currently, outgoing President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohammed Hussein Roble have been tussling over the control of security and electoral exercise. Roble insists he's the leader of a transition and should be accorded respect.
At least four people were killed on Thursday when fighters from the Al-Shabaab jihadist group raided a town near Somalia's capital Mogadishu, police said.

The attackers, armed with machine guns, raided the town of Balcad, about 30 kilometres (18 miles) north of Mogadishu, police and witnesses said.

"The terrorists attacked Balcad early this morning targeting government security checkpoints," police officer Abdullahi Mohamed told AFP by phone.

"The situation returned to normal now and the government forces are in full control."

Four soldiers killed in Mali attack
[AlAhram] Four Malian soldiers were killed and around a dozen others were maimed when they were attacked in the west of the county, the army said Thursday.

Mali's Armed Forces said the attack occurred late Tuesday in a region of the country where jihadists have attacked soldiers in the past.

An army "unit in the Nara region was the target of a sophisticated attack combining IED (Improvised Explosive Devices) and heavy weapons," the army said in a statement.

It said the army suffered at least "four dead and a dozen seriously maimed," but did not say who carried out the attack.

On Wednesday evening, a brigade in Niena in the far south of the country was attacked, but without any casualties, the army said.

In the centre of the country, a mortar attack targeted the Hombori camp also on Wednesday evening, but there was no material damage.

Mali is the epicentre of a jihadist insurgency that began in the north of the country in 2012 and spread three years later to neighbouring Niger and Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
,Thousands of people across the region have died and around two million have been displaced by the conflict.

Despite the presence of French and UN troops, the conflict spread to neighbouring Burkina Faso and Niger.

La Belle France intervened in 2013 and now has roughly 5,000 troops in the region, but plans to lower that number to 2,500-3,000 by 2023.

The spiral of violence has continued despite the coup that brought the military to power in Bamako in 2020.

Mumbai on alert: Security tightened over intelligence report on possible Khalistani terrorist attacks
[OneIndia] In the wake of intelligence inputs that Khalistani elements may carry out a terror attack in Mumbai on the eve of New Year, the city police have beefed up security at prominent railway stations and other public places, and also cancelled the weekly offs and holidays of its personnel so that its entire strength remains available for duty, officials said on Thursday.

"Police had received an input that Khalistani elements may carry out a terror attack in Mumbai on the eve of New Year," a police official said. Hence, in order to maintain law and order situation, police are on alert and will be keeping a strict vigil across the city on December 31.

The orders were issued on Wednesday under Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) Section 144 by Deputy Commissioner of Police (operations) S Chaitanya.

"Mumbai police have prohibited all the new year gatherings and parties in closed and open places, there is a possibility that people may gather in small groups of not more than four persons," the official said. In addition to the city police, the Government Railway Police (GRP) have also stepped up security at prominent railway stations considering the threat and anti-sabotage measures have been taken, another official said.

In a tweet, Quaiser Khalid, Commissioner GRP Mumbai said, "In view of the covid 19 situation we advise people to adhere to government directions on the issue." "We @grpmumbai have deployed large manpower for checking, frisking & anti-sabotage measures at important Rly Stn. We will enforce laws firmly. We request people's cooperation," he added.

Three Palestinian farmers injured as Israel attacks Gaza, targets farmers
More on this story from yesterday.
[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] Israel has launched artillery strikes against the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip, injuring three Paleostinian farmers in the besieged enclave.
Israeli tanks shot up several posts belonging to the Paleostinian resistance movements on the eastern and northern borders of the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, the Paleostinian Information Center (PIC) said.

The Israeli military also shot up lands belonging to civilians in the eastern areas of central and southern Gaza Strip, the PIC added.

According to the Paleostinian Health Ministry, three people were maimed in the Israeli attacks.

The PIC said the injuries took place as the artillery shells were fired towards Paleostinian farmers from the same family in the city of Beit Hanoun.

One of the injured was at death's door.

Tel Aviv claims that the artillery attacks occurred in response to a shooting attack launched from the besieged enclave that left a settler lightly injured on the border fence between the Israeli-occupied territories and Gaza.

Gaza, home to some two million Paleostinians, has been under Israeli siege since June 2007. The tight blockade has caused a decline in the standards of living as well as unprecedented levels of unemployment and unrelenting poverty.
and seething. Don't forget the seething!
Back on May 10, the Israeli military launched a brutal bombing campaign against Gaza, following Paleostinian retaliation for violent mostly peaceful Israeli raids on worshipers at al-Aqsa Mosque and the regime’s plans to force a number of Paleostinian families out of their homes at the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East al-Quds.

About 260 Paleostinians were killed in the Israeli bombardment, including dozens of women and kiddies.

In response, Paleostinian resistance movements, chief among them Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, launched Operation al-Quds Sword and fired more than 4,000 rockets and missiles into the occupied territories, killing 12 Israelis.

Apparently caught off guard by the unprecedented barrage of rockets from Gaza, Israel announced a unilateral ceasefire on May 21, which Paleostinian resistance movements accepted with Egyptian mediation.

Palestinian gets 21 years in jail for stabbing man in Rosh Ha’ayin terror attack
[IsraelTimes] In plea deal, Walid Mansour admits that he stabbed Refael Levi at construction site in August 2020; will also pay fine.

A Paleostinian man was sentenced on Thursday to 21 years in prison for stabbing a man in a terror attack in the central city of Rosh Ha’ayin last year.

Walid Mansour, from the town of Jenin in the West Bank, repeatedly stabbed Refael Levi, causing him seriously injuries, at a construction site in August 2020.

Mansour was convicted in Lod District Court in a plea deal after admitting guilt to charges of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm as an act of terrorism. In addition to the jail term, he was ordered by the court to pay a fine of NIS 200,000 (approximately $64,000).

The attack was initially investigated as a brawl, but after Levi awoke from a coma he gave Sherlocks information that led them to change course and probe it as a terror attack.

According to the indictment, Mansour slipped through a hole in the West Bank security fence, armed with a knife. He encountered Levi at the building site, where the latter had an apartment under construction.

The suspect is said to have lied to Levi, saying that he had keys to check on the apartments in the building, and the two went inside, ostensibly to review Levi’s property. Inside the building Mansour stabbed Levi some 20 times, leaving him at death's door.

Taking his victim’s cellphone and car keys, he expeditiously departed at a goodly pace and headed back to his hometown of Jenin.

In Jenin, Mansour hid out for several days in an apartment with the help of a friend. He is said to have cut his hair and beard and instructed those around him to call him by an alias.

Israeli security forces eventually arrested Mansour in a raid, along with three other people who were believed to have assisted him.

At least two civilians killed in a suspected Turkish attack in Hasaka
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish forces bombarded villages of Hasaka province in northeast Syria (Rojava) late Thursday, killing at least two civilians and injuring three others, according to an official from the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

"A child and woman have bit the dust, while 3 more civilians were maimed as a result of Ottoman Turkish bombing on the villages of Til Tamer and Zirgan towns / North Hasakah city," tweeted Farhad Shami, Head of SDF Media Center.

Hawar News Agency (ANHA), affiliated to the Kurdish administration, reported that the corpse count increased to three. It added that two of them are siblings.

Cafeteria allegedly attacked by Salafist group in western Iran
[Rudaw] A number of gunnies attacked a cafeteria in the Kurdish city of Javanrud, western Iran
...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence...
late Wednesday, injuring two people, a source told Rudaw. The group is reportedly affiliated to the country’s Salafi movement.

An informed source told Rudaw on the condition of anonymity on Thursday that a group of people riding cycle of violences attacked Lawa Cafeteria in Javanrud at 9pm on Wednesday, using Kalashnikov rifles. Two people were maimed in the attack.

The attackers then had gun sex in three places of the city, citing Islamic slogans like "Allahu Akbar," added the source.

Some residents of the city and social media users claimed that the group is affiliated to the Salafi movement.

Local media cited police as saying that they have detained two of the attackers and confiscated their weapons.

Javanrud is a Kurdish-populated city in Kermanshah Province.

Salafist centers in towns and villages across the Kurdish areas of Iran have been propped up by preachers who travelled cross-country from Baluchestan.

U.S. Navy Seizes $4 Million Worth of Heroin in Arabian Sea
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The USS Tempest and USS Typhoon seized the drugs hidden aboard a stateless fishing vessel plying Mideast waters, the international task force said in a statement. The seizure took place on Monday.

The Navy said the fishing vessel likely came from Iran. All nine crew members identified themselves as Iranian nationals, according to Cmdr. Timothy Hawkins, a spokesperson for the U.S. Navy's Mideast-based 5th Fleet.

He did not elaborate on who manufactured the drugs or their ultimate destination.

As the task force ramps up regional patrols, it has confiscated illegal drugs worth over $193 million during operations at sea this year — more than the amount of drugs seized in the last four years combined, its statement said.

Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
, according to last year's U.N. Global Synthetic Drugs Assessment. Smugglers from Iran have increasingly taken to sea to bring heroin into South Asia, the report added, with Iranian and Pak sailors often arrested near Sri Lanka.

Iran's porous 1,923 kilometer-long (1195 mile-long) eastern border with Afghanistan, the world's largest producer of opium, has turned it into a key transit country for the illicit drug trade.

Iran State TV Says Tehran Launches Rocket into Space
[An Nahar] Iran
...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence...
said Thursday it launched a rocket with a satellite carrier bearing three devices into space, though it's unclear if any of the objects entered orbit around the Earth. The state TV report, as well as others by semiofficial news agencies, did not say when the launch was conducted nor what devices the carrier brought with it. However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
the launch comes amid ongoing negotiations in Vienna over Iran's tattered nuclear deal. Previous launches have drawn rebukes from the United States.

Ahmad Hosseini, a Defense Ministry front man, identified the rocket use as a Simorgh, or "Phoenix," rocket. He said the three devices were sent up 470 kilometers (290 miles).

Hosseini was quoted as saying the "performance of the space center and the performance of the satellite carrier was done properly."

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
no one immediately said if the objects launched reached orbit. Iran has suffered a series of setbacks in its space program in recent launches.

Iranian state media recently offered a list of upcoming planned satellite launches for the Islamic Theocratic Republic's civilian space program. Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard runs its own parallel program that successfully put a satellite into orbit last year.

Conducting a launch amid the Vienna talks fits the hard-line posture struck by Tehran's negotiators, who already described six previous rounds of diplomacy as a "draft," exasperating Western nations. Germany's new foreign minister has gone as far as to warn that "time is running out for us at this point."

Satellite images seen by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named suggested a launch was imminent earlier this month.
