2700 Migrants Apprehended over Christmas Weekend in One Texas Border, Come From Dozens of CountriesSector,
[Breitbart] Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 2,700 migrants over the Christmas weekend, adding to the nearly 30,000 in November.

“The mission never sleeps,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens said in a tweet on Monday. “Our numbers continue to increase across the board in all metrics.”

Owens reported his agents apprehended 2,700 migrants over the Christmas weekend. Those arrests included at least three sex offenders. Several of the groups included more than 130 migrants — a tactic used to tax Border Patrol resources and allow other smuggling activities to proceed unfettered.

In addition, the agents in the Del Rio Sector disrupted 15 smuggling cases and rescued 16 migrants placed in danger by their human smugglers.

These Christmas-weekend apprehensions added to the nearly 30,000 migrants apprehended in the sector during the month of November, Owens tweeted. These apprehensions represent an increase of more than 241 percent over the same month in 2020.

During the first two months of Fiscal Year 22, which began on October 1, Del Rio Sector agents apprehended 57,965 migrants (up 238 percent over the same period in FY21). The apprehensions included 42,122 single adults (up 191 percent), 14,335 Family Unit Aliens (up 695 percent), and 1,508 Unaccompanied Alien Children (up 76 percent).

Border Patrol agents pick up migrants from Turkey as part of arrivals from dozens of countries

[FoxNews] Border Patrol agents in El Paso, Texas have picked up five migrants from Turkey attempting to enter the U.S. illegally -- as officials say they are seeing foreign nationals from dozens of countries arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border.

El Paso Chief Border Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez announced that agents in Ysleta had intercepted the five Turkish nationals entering the U.S. illegally.

She added that agents in the sector have so far arrested migrants from over 45 nationalities.

"Border Security is National Security!" she tweeted, along with a graphic that said "Turkish Incursion."

Agents have been dealing with a constant, large flow of migrants coming to the border, primarily from Mexico and Northern Triangle countries. But agents have also encountered migrants from all across the globe attempting to gain access to the United States.

In Fiscal Year 2021, there were 1,409 encounters with migrants coming from Turkey, up from 109 in FY 2020. So far in FY 2022, there have been 957 encounters since October.

Meanwhile, there were 2,588 Indian nationals encountered in FY2021, up from 1,120 in FY 2020. There were 450 encounters with Chinese nationals in FY 2021, down from the 1,738 in FY 2020.

There were an additional 20,707 migrants in FY2021 listed as coming from "other" countries outside those listed on the CBP statistics – up from 7,047 in FY2020.

CBP figures released earlier this month show agents reported 173,620 encounters at the southern border in November, a staggering increase of 140 percent from the same time last year.

Fiscal Year 2021, which ran through September, saw the most encounters on record with more than 1.7 million encounters.

Armed men steal food from WFP warehouse in El-Fasher
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Unidentified button men have stolen more than 1,900 tonnes of food from the World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse in El-Fasher, said the UN humanitarian coordination office (OCHA) on Wednesday.

The attack took place on the evening of 28 December, four days after a similar attack on the former UNAMID logistics base in El Fasher on 24 December 2021 by a peace group.

"According to initial reports, the WFP warehouse located in the Borsa area of El Fasher town, the capital of North Darfur State, contained up to 1,900 metric tonnes of food, meant for hundreds of thousands of food-insecure people in that area," said OCHA.

The fresh attack was also perpetrated by unknown gangs, according to the statement.

For her part, Khardiata Lo Ndiaye, UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan condemned the looting of food supplies from a WFP warehouse in El Fasher.

"The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
and humanitarian partners are extremely concerned about the reports from North Darfur that humanitarian assets came under attack," said Lo Ndiaye.

She pointed out that this food assistance was meant for Sudan’s most vulnerable people.

"Such an attack severely impedes our ability to deliver to the people who need it the most," she added.

The North Darfur State Security Committee imposed a curfew in El Fasher, from 06:00 pm to 05:00 am from Wednesday, until further notice.

Sudan gunmen loot UN food aid warehouse in Darfur
[AlAhram] Sudanese button men have looted a World Food Programme warehouse containing about 1,900 tonnes of food aid in Darfur amid a surge of violence in the western region, officials said Wednesday.

Residents of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, reported heavy shooting near the warehouse late Tuesday, and the local authorities have imposed a night-time curfew on the town after the attack, state news agency SUNA reported.

"We heard intense gunfire," local resident Mohammed Salem told AFP.

Ten Years Later. Militias Still Control Libya
[LIBYAREVIEW] Throughout 2021, armed militias in western Libya continued to commit murder, kidnappings, and attacked government officials and offices. Several armed festivities erupted between them, causing the destruction of public property, and terrorising citizens. A number of these crimes are noted below:On 21 December in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, unaffiliated gangs surrounded the headquarters of the Presidential Council and the government. They deployed military vehicles, and closed streets with earthen berms. These movements caused the closure of several schools and the University of Tripoli. Many companies closed their doors, mass transportation stopped, and the city was paralyzed in fear of new festivities.

The movements of the armed militias came in the wake of the decision of the Libyan Presidential Council to dismiss the commander of the Tripoli Military District, Major General Abdel-Basset Marwan, and appointed Major General Abdel-Qader Mansour to succeed him.

In November, heavy festivities erupted between the militias of Mohammed Bahrun (Al-Far) who is affiliated with the Ministry of Interior in the city of al-Zawiya, and the Stabilization Support Agency (SSA), led by Abdel-Ghani al-Kikli (Ghneiwa), affiliated with the Presidential Council in al-Zawiya.

Various types of heavy weapons were reportedly used during the festivities. Videos circulating on social media showed the firing of rocket-propelled grenades from both sides. The festivities took place in residential neighbourhoods, endangering the lives and safety of civilians.

In October, festivities erupted between the SSA and the judicial police of the Radaa Special Deterrence Force (SDF). Heavy weapons were also used in the al-Farnaj neighbourhood in Tripoli, injuring a number of residents.

In October, festivities erupted in al-Zawiya between al-Far, and the Zaqrlo militia. The two sides exchanged missiles, which led to a number of deaths. The commander of the force west of Tripoli, Mutei al-Hariri was among the victims.

The festivities caused direct casualties to the al-Zawiya oil complex. Eight petroleum tanks were directly damaged. Five other tanks for storing base oils and chemical additives in a mineral oil mixing and filling plant were also damaged.

In September, unidentified button men kidnapped the mayor of the Hai al-Andalus neighbourhood, Mohammed al-Fatisi, and two members of the municipal council.

In August, an gang bearing the slogan "the Chief of Staff" attacked the headquarters of the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) in Tripoli. The group fired a heavy barrage of live ammunition at the headquarters and vehicles of the authority, resulting in several injuries.

In August, Chief of the Cabinet Office in Benghazi, Reda Afritis was kidnapped by an unknown gang in the al-Dahra area of Tripoli. He was released after being held for more than two weeks.

On 16 July, militias beat and kidnapped the Undersecretary for Programmes and Activities of the Ministry of. Youth, Ahmed Abu Bakr Milad. He was released the next day.

In July, members of the "Ayoub Abu Ras" militia stormed the headquarters of the Municipal Council in Ain Zara. They severely beat council members, and kidnapped a number of them.

Also in July, the city of al-Zawiya witnessed further armed festivities between the militias of al-Far, the "Al-Nasr" militia led by Mohammed Kashlaf al-Qasab, known as "the Emperor of Smuggling," and Caboat militia, near the al-Zawiya refinery and Rakina Island.

At the end of June, bloody festivities took place between al-Far and militias led by Mohammed Baraka, also known as al-Shalfouh, the most prominent militia in the city of al-Ajaylat.

In June, the Mayor of Ain Zara Municipality, Abdel-Wahid al-Balog was kidnapped by RADA forces, after they stormed the municipality’s headquarters and beat, insulted, and slandered a number of employees.

In June, the Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade (TRB) stormed the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tripol

Boko Haram Suspends Farming Activities In Yobe Community After Residents Celebrated Killing Of Insurgents By Nigerian Arm, Elsewhere in State BH Destroyed 100 Hectares of Farmland
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
-backed faction of Boko Haram
...Nigeerian Islamist group, formerly paying homage to al-Qaeda, then, when the money ran out, to the Islamic State, and headed by nutcase Abu Bakr Shekau. Once he exploded in a gunfight with ISWAP, many in the group surrendered to the govt and others went with their new overlords. The remainder are a shell of their former selves, stmbling glassy-eyed and lonely through the Sambisa Forest and the soothing waters of Lake Chad, asking themselves What is truth?, or maybe just I wonder what's for dinner? I hope it's not rhinocerous again! ...
, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād, has suspended farmers from going to their farms in the outskirt of Buni Yadi, a community in the Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Yobe State have said its members lost over 100 hectares of farmland to the activities of Boko Haram gunnies and criminal herdsmen in three local government areas of the state.

This was made known by the Yobe State Chapter Chairman of AFAN Alhaji Usman Ngari, on Wednesday.

"Gujiba, Geidam and Yunusari Local Governments are facing challenges of insecurity and also during the harvests, they faced challenges with herders who destroyed some of the farms with their cattle.

"More than a hundred hectares of farmland were destroyed by gunnies and herdsmen," Tribune quoted him as saying.

He said despite that, farmers in the state produced good harvest with minimal rainfall they witnessed during the rainy season.

"This year, the farmers have really done well, only in some parts, the rains stopped earlier, but overall production has been good but it is not 100 per cent", he added.

He however said there was an ongoing registration of farmers who are interested in irrigation, and many farmers are showing interest.

Alhaji Ngari said a meeting was held between AFAN, herders and the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the crisis between the farmers and herders.

He said it was agreed that the grazing reserve which was taken away by farmers would be returned to the herders so that they could keep their livestock there without encroaching into farms.

"We have made two major arrangements for the January dry season farming, firstly, we had a meeting with herders together with the federal government to return the grazing reserves that were taken away by the farms to the herders so that they will have enough grass and water for their livestock," he noted.

NigerianArmy Invaded Enugu Churches, Disrupted Christmas Eve Services, Killed Two
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

A civic organization, the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, otherwise known as Intersociety, has narrated in its latest report how operatives of the Nigerian Army invaded Egudene-Ekpofu community in the Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, killing two residents.

According to the report sent to SaharaReporters on Wednesday, the group revealed that the soldiers during an operation on December 24, 2021, invaded some churches in the community and disrupted their Christmas Eve services.

It was also reported that inter-communal movements were disrupted, forcing several residents to flee their homes into the forests or to neighbouring friendly villages.

Intersociety alleged that soldiers attached to the 82 Division also killed two defenceless citizens including a 13-year old boy, Master Arum from Ohuakpaka Quarters who was shot and killed when his parents’ bedroom and its doors were broken into.

The other victim was a middle-age man whose corpse was dumped at Obodo Nnemede Nwannaji near Onokolo Ode in the community.

"The soldiers of the Nigerian Army had between forbidden hours of 24th and 25th Night of December 2021 invaded Egudene-Ekpofu in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State and raided popular squares and quarters and several family houses during which Christmas Eve Church services and intra and inter communal movements were disrupted, forcing several citizens of the community to flee their homes into the forests or across their neighbouring friendly villages.

"The soldiers also during the operation attacked and raided houses and destroyed properties including doors, windows, electronics, etc; disrupted sleep, assaulted married and unmarried women and woke children from their sleep and traumatised them.

"The soldiers of the Nigerian Army under Enugu 82 Division also killed two defenceless citizens including a 13-year old boy (Master Arum from Ohuakpaka Quarters) who was shot and killed when his parents’ bedroom and its doors were broken into and as he was running helplessly for his dear life, the soldiers opened fire on him at close range and killed him instantly. The soldiers also shot and killed a yet-to-be middle-age man whose corpse was dumped at Obodo Nnemede Nwannaji near Onokolo Ode in the Community.

"As if the above dastardly acts were not enough, the soldiers also sighted a palm wine tapper on a palm tree and opened fire. He is presently admitted at the Enugu Specialist Hospital. Not done, the soldiers accosted another up-wine (palm) tapper and dispossessed him of his 5 gallons of up-wine valued at N25,000. His name is Chigozie Obushi.

"Through the use of threatened and terrified locals as "informants" who were forced to show them the dwelling houses of the community’s young men of productive age bracket (20-50 years), the soldiers attacked and invaded several houses that same late night of 24th/25th December 2021 and kidnapped scores from their sleep. Also not spared were the late night Christmas returnees and those returning from Christmas Eve Church services as well as those attending Christmas morning Church services."

Intersociety added that contrary to a statement by the Nigerian Army Director of Public Relations, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu that soldiers arrested a wanted notorious ESN commander in the community, "the man being detained is an unarmed 40-year-old mason who was kidnapped from his rest and sleep following his sick-rest arising from work related stress and pains."

"By a detailed investigation carried out by the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law and contrary to the Nigerian Army claims, the so called "ESN Commander", identified by the Army as "Godwin Nnamdi", is a 40 year-old mason and struggling father of two children. His true name is Godwin Nnaji (not Godwin Nnamdi).

"His other identities are; he hails from Umuode Ega Kindred of Egudene in Ajame Amaeze Autonomous community, Ekpofu in Nkanu East, Enugu State. He struggles to feed himself, his wife and two children. Abducted and falsely labelled Nnaji is married to Mrs. Blessing Nnaji (nee Nnaji) from Ogonogo-Eji Ndiagu Akpugo Autonomous Community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

"He was kidnapped from his rest and sleep following his sick-rest arising from work related stress and pains. He had taken some pain relief tablets and was sleeping when soldiers stormed his family house at about 12:21am on the Christmas Eve/early morning of 25th December 2021 and kidnapped him. Present in the family’s dwelling house during his abduction were his mother-Madam Theresa Nnaji and two of his siblings including his blind younger brother, Onyema Nnaji who was also rough-handled and assaulted.

"Nnaji was fallaciously labelled "ESN Commander" because a bangle with ’rising sun’ insignia was found on him. The soldiers later took him alongside other abductees to the 82 Division Headquarters in Enugu through Inyaba River into Oruku town and drove to their 82 Division Headquarters through Emene. After his abduction, Nnaji was bundled alongside others to Onokolo Market Square in the Community where he was mercilessly beaten and stripped half naked.

"He has been located to be detained at ’Galaxy Detention Camp’ of the 82 Division in Enugu and one of his younger brothers who went to see him was denied access by the lady Army officer in charge who said she is under superior instructions not to allow him to be visited or seen by anybody. Therefore, the claims by the Nigerian Army highlighted above are circumstantially fallacious and trademark of the Nigerian security forces particularly the Nigerian Army with which they have framed, kidnapped and killed hundreds of defenceless and unarmed citizens of Southeast and South-south Nigeria especially between October 2020 and December 2021.

"As a matter of fact and uttermost immediacy and inexcusability, Citizen Godwin Nnaji must be freed unconditionally; likewise others kidnapped and being held captive by the soldiers of the 82 Division in Enugu. The Nigerian Army must also let the affected communities particularly Egudene-Ekpofu be and discontinue all forms of siege and associated brutalisation and riotous brigandage in the area."

Bandits Kill Zamfara Traditional Ruler, Many Villagers, Set Houses Ablaze
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Gunmen suspected to be bandidos have killed the District Head of Gada in the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Alhaji Umaru Danbawan Allah.

The button men, who stormed the village on Tuesday evening with cycle of violences, also killed a yet—to-be-ascertained number of villagers.

Unconfirmed report said the traditional ruler was rubbed out and his house set ablaze after refusing to be kidnapped by the bandidos.

Deadly attacks have raged across Zamfara state where bandidos have thrived.

Farming and herding communities in the state have long been terrorised by gangs who raid villages, stealing cattle and kidnap residents for ransom.

In 2019, the state government entered a peace agreement with the button men.

About 15 brand new Hilux vehicles and cash gifts were also given to leaders of different 'repentant' gangs of bandidos by the governor in 2020.

But despite all these, communities in the state are still being attacked and residents kidnapped and/or killed.

Ingushetia suspect fined in terrorism case
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] A military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced a resident of Ingushetia Ruslan Ozdoev to a fine of 250,000 rubles, having found him guilty of publicly justifying terrorism.

Ruslan Ozdoev, 27, resident of Nazran, was accused of publicly justifying terrorism (part 1 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia). The punishment under this article provides for both a fine in the amount of one hundred thousand to five hundred thousand rubles and imprisonment for a term of two to five years.

"It was established that in 2015 and 2016 the defendant posted a video file depicting the symbols of the international terrorist organization IS and a text file containing linguistic and psychological signs of justifying terrorist activities on a public page of one of the social networks," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told in the press Service of the Southern District Military Court.

Ozdoev was also deprived of the right to "engage in activities related to the administration of sites" for a year. He admitted his guilt, his case was considered in a special order (without examining the evidence - note of the "Caucasian Knot"). India-Pakistan
6 JeM terrorists including 3 Pakistanis gunned down in J&K
[OneIndia] In a major success for the security forces, 6 murderous Moslems of the Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
, including two Paks have been shot full of holes in Kulgam and Anantnag districts of Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
Officials said that one shootout broke out in Kulgam and the other one at Anantnag. Acting on a tip off, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Mirhama district. The forces were fired upon when they were conducting a search operation, following which an encounter broke out. In the encounter, the security forces shot full of holes three terrorists.

In the other encounter at Nougat Shahbad in Anantnag, while murderous Moslems of the Jaish-e-Mohammad were shot full of holes, one policeman was injured. He has been shifted to hospital and is undergoing treatment.

"6 #murderous Moslems of proscribed #terror outfit JeM killed in two separate #encounters. 4 among the killed murderous Moslems have been identified so far as (2) #Pak & (2) local terrorists. Identification of other 02 murderous Moslems is being ascertained. A big #success for us," the Kashmir Zone police while quoting Inspector General Vijay Kumar said in a tweet.

[NATION.PK] Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) deputy inspector general (DIG) Javed Iqbal Wazir said on Wednesday all the turbans involved in the July 14 Dasu blast have been arrested.

Sharing a round-up of actions taken by the CTD in the year 2021, Wazir said the jacket wallah behind the attack that killed 12 people, including nine Chinese nationals, had been identified.

He pointed out that the entire network of the turbans involved in the terrorist attack had been busted with the help of intelligence agencies.

Israeli civilian injured by gunfire from Gaza; IDF shells Hamas posts in response
[IsraelTimes] Military says man was working on maintenance of recently completed border barrier; 3 Paleostinians said maimed in retaliatory strike

An Israeli civilian was injured from gunfire Wednesday near the border with Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, the Israel Defense Forces said, drawing retaliatory strikes in the Strip.

Several Hebrew media outlets reported that the Israeli was injured by sniper fire originating in Gaza. The man was taken to Barzilai hospital in Ashkelon with light injuries to his leg, the military said. According to the hospital, the 33-year-old was struck by shrapnel as he worked on an ATV near Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

He is a worker for a civilian firm hired by the Defense Ministry for maintenance of the recently completed security barrier separating Israel and the Paleostinian enclave, it added.

The army ordered farmers to stay away from land near the Gaza border.

Paleostinian media subsequently reported that Israeli tanks were targeting several Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, outposts in northern Gaza. The IDF confirmed the shellings.

The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry said three Paleostinians have been maimed. Their identity was not immediately clear.
An Nahar adds:
Two Paleostinian farmers were maimed by the Israeli artillery fire which targeted four suspected sites used by Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, military wing the al-Qassam Brigades, the sources told AFP.

The incident coincides with the final day of military drills by armed factions in Gazoo.

According to a statement from the Israeli military, tanks targeted a number of Hamas military posts in northern Gaza, after an Israeli civilian was maimed by gunfire near the barrier separating the enclave from Israel.

Iranian network targeted Likud activists online, claims report
The shadow war continues.
[IsraelTimes] A network of Iranian agents has been targeting Israelis with political posts online and sharing information designed to inflame tensions, reports Channel 12 news.

According to the report, a web of Iranians using fake identities and profiles on social media, mostly on Facebook, has been sharing bully boy political content with Israelis. In particular, the report claims, they have targeted prominent Likud activists with posts and memes attacking the current government.

The same profiles also shared anti-Netanyahu posts and activity in left-wing Facebook groups. The aim, the report claims, is not to support any particular political party but to sow fear and infighting among citizens.

The report did not provide any proof that the foreign profiles were being operated by Iranians, just that they were suspected to be so.

Day 3: Two dead after Tuesday’s alleged Israeli strike on Syrian port city, claims monitor
Day 2 can be seen here, Day 1 here.
[IsraelTimes] Predawn attack was the second time in a month that Israel reportedly targeted the key cargo hub; three other militia fighters said maimed

At least two members of a pro-government militia were killed in Tuesday’s alleged Israeli strike on the Syrian port of Latakia, according to a war monitor.

The strike before dawn marked the second time Israel has allegedly hit the key cargo hub since the outbreak of Syria’s civil war in 2011. The attack caused significant damage with stacks of containers catching fire.

"Two members of a pro-regime militia were killed in the Israeli strike," said the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition-linked monitoring group with questionable funding. "They had suffered serious wounds and gave up the ghost" in a hospital in Latakia earlier today.

Three other militia fighters were also maimed. Syrian state media said the containers hit in the strikes carried "engine oil and spare parts for cars and other vehicles."

But the Observatory says the cargo was "arms and munitions."

Israeli warplanes allegedly fired a number of missiles at the port of the coastal city of Latakia early Tuesday, causing large explosions and fires, in the second alleged Israeli strike in a month on the key facility.

Since the start of the conflict in Syria, Israel has routinely carried out Arclight airstrike

s on its strife-torn neighbor, mostly targeting Syrian government troops as well as allied Iran-backed forces and Hezbollah fighters.

So far this year, Israel has targeted Syria nearly 30 times, killing 130 people including five civilians and 125 loyalist fighters, according to Observatory figures.

Hezbollah deploys air defense systems in Syria's Qalamoun mountains
[JPost] See "Targets". Make sure you stand close...
While the IDF’s aerial superiority has worsened, the military believes that it still has the ability to carry out operations over Lebanon and Syria.

Hezbollah is reportedly deploying air defense systems in Syria, where it would be able to defend against Israeli airstrikes there as well as in Lebanon.

According to the Alma Research Center, the group is deploying the systems to the Qalmoun Mountains region northwest of Damascus, which borders Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, home to Hezbollah’s logistical and operational rear base.

The group is believed to have the SA8 low-altitude, short-range tactical surface-to-air missile system, SA17, and SA22 man-portable air defense missile systems in its arsenal in order to defend against Israeli airstrikes.

Hezbollah has fired on Israeli platforms using its air defenses, most recently in February of last year, when an Israeli drone was fired on by antiaircraft fire during routine operations over Lebanese territory. It was not hit and continued on its mission. In October 2019 an SA8 surface-to-air missile was fired at an Israeli drone but also missed its mark.

The report comes as military officials warned that the Israel Air Force’s freedom of operation in Lebanese skies has been compromised over the past year after air defense systems were deployed in the area.

In addition to deploying the batteries to Syria, Maj. (ret.) Tal Beeri, head of the research department at the Alma Center, told The Jerusalem Post that Hezbollah has also deployed SA8 batteries in south Lebanon.

According to Beeri, these systems can "theoretically" pose a threat to Israeli jets operating over Lebanon.

In addition to its independent air-defense system, Beeri said, it is possible that Hezbollah operatives have trained on Iran’s Bavar-373. The Iranian system is based on Russia’s SA-300 air-defense system that can supposedly simultaneously engage up to six targets up to 250 km. away with 12 missiles.

Iran says the system can target jet bombers and fighters, stealth aircraft and drones, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles.

"It is possible that Hezbollah has trained on it, and, in all probability, we estimate that there have been attempts to transfer it to the group," Beeri said.

In October, Israel’s defense establishment said that it had identified growing Iranian efforts to improve its air defenses in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and other locations, in an attempt to disrupt Israel’s "war between the wars" campaign and bring down an Israeli aircraft.

The Iranian systems have helped Syria improve its capabilities, shorten its response time to attacks and destroy more munitions fired by the Jewish state.

While the IDF’s aerial superiority has worsened, the military believes that it still has the ability to carry out operations over Lebanon and Syria despite the threat posed by Iranian and Hezbollah air-defense systems.

Tensions with both Lebanon and Syria remain high, with 31 rockets being fired from Lebanon (by both Palestinian operatives and Hezbollah) and two long-range rockets fired from Syria over the past year. In response, the IDF fired munitions from fighter planes and some 200 artillery shells.

Hezbollah has also violated Israeli airspace, sending 74 drones into Israel over the past year, down from 94 drones in 2020.
