UN says at least 110 killed in suspected BokoHaram attack in Nigeria
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Al Ahram adds:
A weekend attack on a village in northeast Nigeria

blamed on the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
jihadist group left at least 110 dead, the UN humanitarian coordinator in the country said Sunday.

"At least 110 civilians were ruthlessly killed and many others were maimed in this attack," Edward Kallon said in a statement after initial tolls indicated 43 and then at least 70 dead from Saturday's massacre by suspected Boko Haram fighters.

"The incident is the most violent mostly peaceful direct attack against innocent civilians this year," Kallon said, adding: "I call for the perpetrators of this heinous and senseless act to be brought to justice."

The bloodletting took place in the village of Koshobe near the main city of Maiduguri, with assailants targeting farmers on rice fields.

Borno Governor Babaganan Umara Zulum attended the burial Sunday in the nearby village of Zabarmari of 43 bodies recovered on Saturday, saying the toll could rise after search operations resumed.

The assailants tied up the agricultural workers and slit their throats, according to a pro-government anti-jihadist militia.

The victims were among labourers from Sokoto state in northwestern Nigeria, roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 miles) away, who had travelled to the northeast to find work, it said.

Six were maimed in the attack and eight remained missing as of Saturday.

Kallon, citing "reports that several women may have been kidnapped", called for their immediate release and return to safety.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the attack, saying: "The entire country has been maimed by these senseless killings."

The attack took place as voters went to the polls in long-delayed local elections in Borno State.

The polls had been repeatedly postponed because of an increase in attacks by Boko Haram and a rival dissident faction, ISWAP.

The two groups have been blamed for increasing attacks on loggers, farmers and fishermen whom they accuse of spying for the army and pro-government militias.

A small Muslim colonist roundup: German Interior Minister Wants Refugee Miscreants Expelled to Syria, Brits and Frenchies Sign Another Migrant Reduction Deal

Germany: Migrants smuggled between tree trunks on truck
[DW] Five Afghan migrants colonists were detained in southeast Germany after they smuggled themselves across the border in a large truck that was carrying tree trunks from Romania, police said in a statement on Friday. The driver was completely unaware that the men were in the truck until he stopped just across the German border.

Authorities were later able to locate the group — which included four men aged between 19 and 38, as well as a 16-year-old boy. None of them carried any identification.

They were questioned by federal police in Rosenheim with the help of translators and later taken to a refugee assistance group.

According to police, the driver started out on the over 1,000 kilometer (621 mile) journey from Romania to Germany on Tuesday.

The migrants colonists told police they paid smugglers between €5,500 and €6,600 (between $6,580 and $7,900) each for the entire route from Afghanistan to Germany.

They traveled partly on foot and partly by car, independent of one another, and eventually arrived in Romania. They spent two days hidden between the tree trunks on the truck before making it to Germany.

There have been similar incidents in southeastern Germany in recent weeks. Due to the latest incident, police have said they will carry out more checks on trucks in the area to check for other potential smuggling cases.

German minister wants 'criminals' expelled to Syria, despite asylum safeguards
[DW] Interior Minister Horst Seehofer wants Germany's general ban on deportations to war-torn Syria weakened to return persons deemed criminal or dangerous. Rights groups accuse him of pandering to the far-right.

In 2012, Germany passed a ban on deportations to war-torn Syria, regularly debating it and extending it based on periodic Foreign Ministry assessments. Currently, nearly 6,000 Syrians face not-exercised deportations.

The murder of a tourist in Dresden in October, allegedly by a radicalized Syrian Islamist who lost his refugee status in 2019, rekindled calls to expel.

On Friday, Seehofer told news agency dpa that he would press at a December meeting of interior ministers of Germany's 16 regional states that case-by-case expulsions proceed.

Britain, France Sign Fresh Deal to Reduce Migrant Crossings
[AnNahar] Increased patrols and technology will be deployed along La Belle France's beaches under a new agreement between Gay Paree and London aimed at stopping illegal migration across the Channel.

A growing number of migrants colonists have tried to reach Britannia across the perilous and busy shipping lane in recent months, with four deaths recorded in 2019 and seven so far this year.

The deal will see French patrols doubled from December 1, with drones and radar used to detect those attempting to cross, Britannia's Home Secretary Priti Patel said Saturday.

As part of the deal, Britannia "has pledged to make an additional financial investment of 31.4 million euros to support La Belle France's major efforts against illegal crossings," the French interior ministry said in a statement issued Sunday.

In September, French authorities said they had intercepted more than 1,300 people trying to reach Britannia, including a handful who had attempted to swim the 30-odd kilometers (18 miles) across the Channel.

Around 6,200 attempted the crossing between January 1 and the end of August, with inflatable boats, paddleboards, kayaks or even life jackets to keep them afloat.

At least 7 dead in weekend clashes between protesters, Sadr supporters in Nasiriyah
[Rudaw] At least seven people died and more than 60 were maimed on Friday and Saturday during festivities between protesters and supporters of influential Shiite holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival al-Khoei assassinated shortly after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry...
in the southern city of Nasiriyah.

Protesters in the city’s Habboubi Square were reportedly forced out of their tents and shot at by Sadr supporters, leaving at least seven people dead and scores maimed in a city which has significant bloodshed since demonstrations began last October.

"Sadrists armed with guns and pistols came to try to clear our tents. We fear that more violence could take place," Mohammad al-Khayyat, a leader of the anti-government movement told AFP.

On November 28 last year, more than three dozen people died in protest-related violence at Nasiriyah's Zeitun Bridge.

Iraqi counter-terror services were sent to the city on the orders of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to rescue a kidnapped activist in September.

Tens of thousands of Sadr supporters erupted into the streets of Baghdad and Nasiriyah at the weekend to express their support for the Shiite holy man — also head of the Sairoon Coalition, the largest parliamentary bloc - ahead of next year’s elections.

Sadr called on his supporters last week to gather at Baghdad’s Tahrir square — the epicenter of Iraq’s protest movement - to perform Friday prayers, hoping that this would clean up the "atheism" that he said has taken over the city’s streets.

"After Tahrir Square became a place for infidelity and disobedience of God... it is our duty as believers to raise the name of God in the square," Sadr wrote on Monday.

He then took to Twitter on Friday to thank his supporters for mobilizing.

"Today, you gave me hope that the upcoming elections are in good hands, and Iraq will be taken out of the hands of corrupt people from outside and inside Iraq," Sadr tweeted.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
the holy man later called for an end to violence, asking the people of Nasiriyah to "not fight among themselves."

"The people need to come together for the upcoming democratic process for their rights to not be taken away from them," he added.

This is not the first time Sadr has called on his followers to take to the streets.

The holy man previously threatened a "million person march" back in February, amid delays appointing a government cabinet.

Eleven people died and more than 200 were maimed after Sadr supporters stormed a Najaf protest camp in February.

The prime minister’s office on Sunday announced the formation of a body led by National Security Advisor Qassim al-Araji to "restore stability" in Dhi Qar province.

The US Embassy in Baghdad also expressed concern regarding the "unjustifiable" violence.

"The United States condemns the violence against peaceful protestors that took place in Nasiriyah, Dhi Qar today. These unjustifiable acts of violence have no place in a democracy," the embassy said on Saturday.

"The United States joins the international community in calling for those responsible to be held accountable, and for the government to provide protection for protestors and others engaged in the legitimate exercise of free speech," it added.

Fresh Turkish airstrikes hit Ain Issa: reports
[Rudaw] Multiple Ottoman Turkish Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s targeted Ain Issa in northeast Syria on Sunday night, according to Syrian news outlets.

Ottoman Turkish military airstrikes targeted various areas, including Ain Issa’s IDP camp and the M4 highway late Sunday evening, according to North Press Agency.

According to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) affiliated Hawar News, multiple airstrikes targeted Ain Issa town and its surrounding countryside in Raqqa province.

Syrian state media SANA also reported the airstrikes, saying "Ottoman Turkish occupation forces and their mercenaries" were attacking the area for the second day, displacing a number of families.

Ain Issa, located in Gire Spi (Tal Abyad) district in northeast Syria - also known as Rojava - is partially controlled by the SDF. It lies just outside of a Ottoman Turkish-controlled zone taken by Ankara during 2019’s Operation Peace Spring offensive, which displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians.

More than 300 families in nearby villages have reportedly abandoned their homes due to recent Ottoman Turkish bombardments.
