Fears of Ethnic Violence as Afghan Taliban Target Hazara District
[An Nahar] Afghan special forces were deployed Thursday to beat back Taliban

...a grouping of Dari-speaking people of Sino-Tibetan descent inhabiting Afghanistan and Pakistain. They are predominantly Shia Moslems and not particularly warlike, which makes them favored targets...
s, that has raised fears of ethnic and sectarian violence.

The flare up in fighting in Afghanistan's restive southeast comes as the resurgent Taliban ratchet up attacks against Afghan cops, which are suffering record-high casualties.

Heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual name-calling or slapsy...
in the Jaghori district of Ghazni province has been ongoing since the Taliban launched a pre-dawn attack on two checkpoints manned by local pro-government forces on Wednesday.

"The Taliban fighters have burned civilian houses, but we don't have precise information about the number of dead and maimed," provincial deputy police chief Ramazan Ali Mohsini told AFP.

Houthis cuts all supply lines to Saudi Coalition troops in Hodeidah, scores toes up, Saudi jets bombard
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Houthis Movement scored an important advance on Thursday that resulted in the complete encirclement of the Saudi Coalition troops inside Hodeidah.

The Houthis released a statement this evening that said all Saudi Coalition troops inside of Hodeidah are now trapped after they cut all the supply lines to these fighters in the scenic provincial capital.

In addition to besieging the Saudi Coalition troops, the Houthis said that at least 150 members of the pro-government forces had been killed over the last few days.

Furthermore, the Houthis managed to destroy another 17 military and technical vehicles that belonged to the Saudi Coalition forces in western Yemen.

This latest news from Hodeidah comes just 48 hours after the Saudi Coalition forces broke through the frontline defenses of the Houthis at the scenic provincial capital.

Scores of Saudi-backed fighters killed after disastrous attack in Hodeidah

[ALMASDARNEWS] Scores of Saudi-backed fighters were bumped off by the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
forces inside the Hodeidah province of western Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
this week.

Led by the Yemeni Elite Republican Guard and Southern Resistance Army, the Gulf-backed troops attempted to capture the strategic Kilo 16 area on Wednesday; however, their assault would take a disastrous turn after many of the fighters were ambushed by a large Houthi force.

Disaster struck the Saudi-backed troops when they mistakenly entered the Kilo 16 area with a large number of fighters and very little armor to protect their advancing troops.

Many of the Saudi-backed fighters were bumped off by the Houthi personnel that were hidden in several sites around the Kilo 16 area.

Fresh Saudi airstrikes leave father, five children dead in Yemen’s Hudaydah

[PRESSTV] At least six civilians have been killed when Saudi military aircraft carried out Arclight airstrikes against a residential area in Yemen’s strategic western province of Hudaydah as the Riyadh regime presses ahead with its atrocious bombardment campaign against its southern neighbor.

Saudi fighter jets conducted aerial assaults against al-Jabaliyah area in al-Tuhayat district on Thursday afternoon, an unnamed local source told Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network.

The source added that the airstrikes claimed the lives of a father and his five children.

Earlier in the day, Yemeni army soldiers and allied fighters from Popular Committees targeted the positions of Saudi-backed Lions of Islam loyal to Yemen's former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi in the al-Matun district of the northern Yemeni province of al-Jawf, killing and injuring tens of them.

Army soldiers and their allies also managed to take control of a number of areas in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s southwestern border region of Jizan, where Saudi mercenaries had been stationed.

Yemen Rebel Chief Vows to 'Never Surrender'

[An Nahar] Yemen's rebel chief vowed Wednesday never to surrender to Saudi-backed pro-government forces, but appeared to acknowledge his forces had lost ground in a battle for the port city of Hodeida.

"Does the enemy think that penetrating this or that area, or seizing this or that area, means we will be convinced that we should surrender and hand over control?" Abdulmalik al-Huthi said in a televised address.

"This is not happening and will not happen ever."

Yemen's military said government forces had advanced closer to the heart of Hodeida Wednesday, raising fears over civilian safety and humanitarian aid deliveries through the lifeline port city.

The Houthis, northern rustics linked to Iran, on Wednesday acknowledged incursions by the Saudi-led coalition and accused pro-government forces of provoking an escalation in violence.

58 Combatants Killed in Fighting for Yemen's Hodeida

[An Nahar] Dozens of combatants were killed as pro-government forces closed in on rebel forces in the heart of the Yemeni port city of Hodeida on Thursday, hospital sources said.

Medics at hospitals inside the city reported 47 rebels had been killed in overnight ground fighting and air raids by a Saudi-led coalition supporting the government.

Sources at hospitals in government-held areas on the outskirts said 11 soldiers had also been killed.

Over the past week, Yemeni government forces backed by coalition troops have slowly edged into the city of some 600,000 people, one of the last rebel strongholds on the Red Sea coast.

An army source in Hodeida said rebel trenches and landmines had slowed their advance into the city on Thursday.

Nearly 80 percent of Yemen's commercial imports and practically all UN-supervised humanitarian aid pass through Hodeida.

Aid groups have appealed to both the rebels and the coalition to allow civilians to escape the fighting.

The rebels have controlled Hodeida since 2014 when they overran the capital Sanaa and then swept though much of the rest of the country, triggering Saudi-led military intervention the following year and a devastating war of attrition.

Government forces backed by significant numbers of United Arab Emirates ground troops launched an offensive to retake the city in June.

Amnesty Accuses Yemen Rebels of 'Militarising' Hospital

[An Nahar] Amnesia Amnesty International accused Yemeni rebels on Thursday of "deliberate militarisation of hospitals" in the battleground city of Hodeida and called on warring parties to protect civilians.

The human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
group said the Huthi Iranian catspaws recently stationed fighters on the roof of a hospital in the May 22 district of the Red Sea port city, calling the action a "stomach-churning development".

It said the move risked "devastating consequences" for the hospital's staff and patients given the repeated use by the Saudi-led coalition supporting the government of air strikes on civilian areas.

"The presence of Huthi fighters on the hospital's roof violates international humanitarian law, but this violation does not make the hospital and the patients and medical staff lawful targets for Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and UAE-led coalition air strikes," Samah Hadid, Amnesty's Middle East campaigns director Samah Hadid said.

"Anyone attacking a hospital under these conditions risks responsibility for war crimes.

A medical source told AFP on Wednesday that the rebels had forced medical staff out of the May 22 Hospital -- one of Hodeida's main medical facilities -- and posted snipers on the roof.

Aid groups have appealed to both the rebels and the coalition to allow civilians to escape the city of some 600,000 people.

#3  More from the Daily Mail link:

The 31-year-old and his family were known to counter-terror agencies at a state and national level and were believed to have ties with north African extremist groups.

Khalif's passport was cancelled several years ago after he was flagged as one of 300 potential security risks.

It was also noted police are unable to get in touch with Khalif's wife, and believe she is both missing and radicalised.

Authorities may be hoping to utilise the state's preventative detention laws for the first time since they came into effect, in which police are legally allowed to detain a suspect for up to seven days should they believe the person poses a threat or security risk, Herald Sun reported.

Khalif moved to Australia from Somalia in the 1990's, Victoria Police commissioner Graham Ashton said, and had a record of 'minor' offences in relation to 'cannabis use, theft and driving offences'.

'He is known to police and is known mainly in respect to relatives he has that are certainly persons of interest.'

#4  And PJ Media adds:

According to reports, the man attempted to ram his vehicle with gas cylinders into a tram, which he missed. He then exited the vehicle and threw a device into the car, setting it on fire.

Sepoy martyred in 'unprovoked' firing by Indian forces at LoC: ISPR
[DAWN] A sepoy of Pakistain Army was martyred due to "unprovoked" firing by Indian forces in the Thub Sector of the restive Line of Control (LoC), Radio Pakistain reported on Thursday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement said that the martyred soldier Sepoy Zaheer Ahmed belonged to Sultanpur village of Bhimber district. He is survived by a widow.

Pakistain Army troops "retaliated effectively and engaged [the] enemy's posts involved in [the] unprovoked firing", added ISPR.

Ceasefire violations are a frequent feature along the LoC and Working Boundary despite the leadership of Pakistain Rangers and India's Border Security Forces agreeing in November 2017 that the "spirit" of the 2003 Ceasefire Agreement must be revived to protect innocent lives.

Unprovoked firing by Indian forces across the LoC had taken 832 lives, left 3,000 injured and had damaged 3,300 houses in the first half of 2017, according to the director general of the Disaster Management Authority, Zaheeruddin Qureshi.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian said killed by Israeli fire in central Gaza
[IsraelTimes] Army says troops fired at a group of Paleostinians who damaged the border fence; incident comes amid efforts to reach long-term truce in Strip

A Paleostinian man was shot and killed Thursday in the southern Gazoo Strip by Israeli troops, the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",-run health ministry in the coastal enclave said.

A ministry front man said the man, whom he did not name, was shot by Israeli forces during low-level festivities east of Deir al-Balah in central Gazoo.

The Israel Defense Forces said a group of Paleostinians approached the border fence and damaged it before soldiers opened fire "in accordance with the rules of engagement."

The man would be the first Paleostinian to die from IDF fire in Gazoo in 10 days, as both Israel and Hamas have been negotiating a truce via Egyptian mediators.

The incident came as the Hamas-run ministry said a Paleostinian shot last month during protests on the Israel-Gazoo border succumbed to his wounds.

Ahmad al-Najar, 21, was shot by Israeli fire east of Khan Younis and was later transferred to the West Bank for treatment, a health ministry front man said in a statement.

He died on Wednesday, the front man added.

Over 160 Paleostinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the start of weekly border festivities in March, according an News Agency that Dare Not be Named tally, including a number of people who broke through the fence into Israel. Dozens of the fatalities were Hamas members. An Israeli soldier was killed by a Paleostinian sniper.
Iran PressTV adds:
A front man from the Gazoo Ministry of Health named the victim as 'Alaa Abu Sherbin, a teenage boy.

Witnesses and local residents said that three others also sustained injuries as heavily-armed Israeli soldiers used live ammunition to disperse the peaceful protesters.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Daesh loses last bargaining chip in southern Syria, SAA prepares final offensive
[ALMASDARNEWS] The so-called "Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
" (ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) lost their last bargaining chip in southern Syria after the government forces liberated 19 civilians held hostage by the terrorist group.

The loss of these hostages could not come at a worse time for ISIS as they brace for a major assault from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies in southern Syria.

For months, ISIS has used these hostages to leverage the Syrian military to halt their operations in the al-Safa region of southern Syria.

The Syrian Army would halt their operations in October after it appeared ISIS was willing to handover the hostages and agree to be moved to the Badiya al-Sham region in western Deir Ezzor.

ISIS repeatedly reneged on any agreements and then threaten to execute the 19 hostages; this would later prompt the Syrian Arab Army to resume their strikes on the al-Safa region.

Now that the hostages are free from the ISIS terrorists, the Syrian Arab Army is preparing to launch its biggest assault on the al-Safa region.

With their 4th Armored Division fully deployed to this region, the Syrian Arab Army will not likely negotiate again with ISIS unless its to secure a permanent surrender from the terrorist group.

Kurdish YPG attacks HQ of Turkish-backed rebels in northwest Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) carried out a powerful attack against a group of Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels in the northwestern countryside of Aleppo this week.

Led by members of their sleeper cell, the YPG attacked the headquarters of the Ottoman Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) fighters using a vehicle borne improvised bomb (VBIED) in the Jandaris District of Afrin.

The VBIED attack would prove successful, as the YPG managed to kill at least two members of the Free Syrian Army, while wounding couple others that were inside the HQ.
The Times of Israel adds:
Opposition activists and paramedics reported that two blasts in rebel-held parts of northern Syria have inflicted casualties.

The Observatory said the first kaboom occurred in the northern town of Azaz wounding six children while the opposition’s Syrian Civil Defense said four were maimed including three children.

The observatory and other opposition activists reported another blast in the town of Jinderis saying a bomb went off outside an office of the The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
-backed Failaq al-Sham rebel group killing three fighters and wounding seven.

Azaz and Jeideris are controlled by Turkey-backed opposition fighters. The two towns were once controlled by Kurdish fighters opposed to Turkey.

Explosions in rebel-held parts of northern Syria are not uncommon and have killed and maimed dozens in recent months.

High ranking Saudi Al-Qaeda commander assassinated in Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] A high ranking commander from an al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria was assassinated in northwestern Syria this week.

According to opposition activists via social media, the commander of the al-Qaeda affiliate "Harakat Ansar al-Deen" was assassinated this week when an unknown assailant opened fire and killed him outside his home in the Jisr al-Shughour countryside.

The commander was identified as "Abu ’Abdullah al-Muhajer"; he is a Saudi national that has been jihading in Syria force several years.

The liquidation of Abu ’Abdullah al-Muhajer comes just 24 hours after two other jihadist rebels were bumped off in the Jisr al-Shughour countryside.

Syria Army Frees Druze Hostages from IS
[An Nahar] Syrian state media said Thursday the army has freed all remaining Druze women and kiddies kidnapped in July from the southern province of Sweida by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

The army "clashed directly with the IS terrorist organization, which had kidnapped women and kiddies from the Sweida province," state news agency SANA said.

Government troops "were able to liberate all the 19 hostages... and kill the terrorist kidnappers," it added.

State television broadcast images of veiled women, boys and at least one girl surrounded by men in military uniforms near a white pick-up truck in a desert landscape.

It said the images were broadcast from the desert near the ancient city of Palmyra in the center of the country.

IS jihadists kidnapped around 30 people -- mostly women and kiddies -- from Sweida in late July during the deadliest attack on Syria's Druze community of the seven-year civil war.
The Times of Israel adds:
SANA news agency said in its report that the operation occurred in the Hamima area east of the historic town of Palmyra. It said all IS fighters in the area where the hostages were held have been killed.

A Syrian opposition war monitor contradicted the reports on state media, saying IS set free the hostages in return for the government’s release of women related to IS fighters and commanders who were held by Syrian authorities as well as a monetary payment.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it was not immediately clear how much money the government paid for the release of the hostages.
