Afghanistan
Canada says has broken S. Afghan Taliban uprising
Canadian troops have broken the back of an insurgency by Taliban militants near the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, the scene of fierce recent fighting, Defense Minister Gordon O'Connor said on Tuesday. Canada has 2,300 soldiers based in Kandahar. Since 2002, 42 Canadian soldiers have died in Afghanistan, most of them in battles in the south of the country over the past few months.

"We have already broken the back of the insurgency in the Kandahar area in the sense that they (the Taliban) are not prone to attacking us directly. They are going to have to revert to suicide bombings and IEDs (improvised explosive devices)."
Although an opinion poll over the weekend showed most Canadians pessimistic about the future of the mission and want the troops to come home, O'Connor struck an upbeat tone. "It is a critical time in the south. ... I believe that we are going to succeed," he said in a Parliamentary debate on the Canadian military. "We have already broken the back of the insurgency in the Kandahar area in the sense that they (the Taliban) are not prone to attacking us directly. They are going to have to revert to suicide bombings and IEDs (improvised explosive devices)," he said.

Canadian troops were part of a major NATO operation that attacked the Taliban for two weeks in September. The clashes have since died down. Canada's armed forces are tightly stretched but O'Connor said top military officials felt they had enough troops to ensure no units were forced to return to Kandahar for a second term of duty before the mission ends in February 2009. He added some engineers as well as artillery and tank crews already in Afghanistan could be asked to fight as infantry if necessary.

#1  Odd init, if that were the taliban saying we have broken the backs of the westerners christ you'd never hear the end of it from the media for weeks, infact here in the Uk the average person probably dosnt even know the canadians are there fighting em. I await this report on the media but i do not hold my breath for fear of collapsing though...

#2  Absolutely Shep - the Coalition are winning? Best keep that hush hush as it doesn't suit the hand-wringing agenda. I await the Taliban's black flag appearing permanently on the Al-Grauniad's masthead. Sheesh. Go on the Canadians! Nice work.

#3  When we turn tail in Iraq, it's going to be hard to keep Canadians dying in Afghanistan.

#5  Beauty!

Now to find the people supplying the suicide vests and making the IEDs. Therein lies the hard part.

#6  most Canadians pessimistic about the future of the mission and want the troops to come home

It occurs to me that the enemies of the West may be right about us; we have no will to fight and will recall our troops rather than risk bloodshed. My father's generation had to cope with the news that Allies had 9,000 casualties in one morning in 1944 and had secured only a few feet along the coast of Normandy for that. Armored German counterattacks would take tens of thousands more lives and the war would go on for almost a year, with massive civilian casualties. If that happened today the "peace" movement would insist the troops come home and we begin discussions for a diplomatic end to hostilities. Hitler would remain a revered figure throughout central Europe. The US, UK, Canada and Australia would be the only liberal democracies in the world, the UK would be under tremendous pressure to ally itself with fascist Europe. But we would have "peace" and our heroes would be home.

Today's enemies may be too tough and too scary for us moderns to confront. They may have us figured.
Posted by: Baba Tutu || 11/09/2006 12:42 Comments || Top||

#7  Baba, today's enemy is not as visible as Hitler. Adolph had an army, tanks, airplanes, etc, all of which he used to devastating effect against both militaries and civilians. He invaded numerous other countries. There was no way the appeasers could deny that he had to be defeated.

Today's enemy is quite different as I'm sure you understand. They are far far less visible. Their threat is much less overt. Thus it becomes extraordinarily difficult to convince average joe public who neither sees nor is directly impacted by the conflict that it is worth the death of any soldiers. The media is absolutely complicit in this ignorance, but the ignorance is there nevertheless. That is why there will be little or no support to fight this war the way it must be fought until one or a series of significant attacks occurs in the west.

NATO forces kill 15 Afghan insurgents
NATO-led troops aided by military aircraft killed 15 suspected insurgents in eastern Afghanistan after the militants opened fire on the Western patrol, wounding one soldier, an official said on Wednesday. The troops came under attack on Tuesday in Barmal district of Paktika province, said Capt Jose Lopez, a spokesman for the NATO-led troops. Troops returned fire and called in close air support, killing 15 suspected insurgents, Lopez said. A NATO soldier was also wounded in the leg. The nationality of the wounded soldier was not disclosed. Most of the troops in the area are American.

The 31,000-troop NATO-led force is trying to bring stability to the volatile country. The Taliban launched the insurgency soon after they were toppled and their guerrilla-style attacks have increased every year. The daily violence plaguing Afghanistan is blamed on the Al Qaeda terror network and a radical faction led by fugitive ex-prime minister and fundamentalist Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.

#1  "15 suspected insurgents" ?! WTF. More that likely these are not Afghans. Even in the last year of the Russian war the Afghans called these Muslim terrorist, "cowboys" and had little to do with them.

Africa Horn
Islamists retake pirate hijacked ship
ISLAMIST fighters who control a large area of southern Somalia stormed a ship hijacked by pirates and recovered it overnight, a maritime official said today. The seizure is the first delivery by the Islamists on a promise to stamp out rampant piracy in the shipping lanes along its coast, the longest in Africa.

The Islamists seized the capital in June from US-backed warlords and went on to take over much of southcentral Somalia, imposing sharia law. Andrew Mwangura, coordinator of the Seafarers Assistance Programme, said all 14 crew were safe and two pirates were seriously wounded during the Islamist boarding. "The ship ... is headed back to Mogadishu under the command of three tug boats belonging to the Islamists," Mr Mwangura said by telephone. The Islamists could not immediately be reached for comment.

The ship, registered in the United Arab Emirates and carrying charcoal, was seized off the Somali coast on Thursday. The crew came from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Eritrea and Ethiopia, Mr Mwangura said. Backed by wealthy Somali businessmen, the Islamists have sought to impose law and order to boost trade that had been reliant on a capricious system of warlord fiefdoms during the country's 15 years without a proper government.

Britain
Three ["Asian Men"] found guilty of Glasgow race-hate murder

Three Asian men (guess which part of "Asia") were today found guilty and jailed for life for the murder of Kriss Donald, the schoolboy who was BURNED ALIVE and killed in a brutal racially-aggravated attack. Imran Shahid, his brother Zeeshan Shahid, and Mohammed Faisal Mushtaq, had denied the charge but were convicted of the abduction, assault and murder of the 15-year-old at the High Court in Edinburgh. A jury of six men and nine women took eight hours to find Imran Shahid guilty by unanimous verdict and the other two guilty by majority verdicts. Imran Shahid, 29, was ordered to spend at least 25 years behind bars while his brother was given 23 years, and 27-year-old Mushtaq handed 22 years.
(I thought they said "jailed for life"? Kriss would probably have lived for a lot longer than just 25 years. Why aren't these assholes actually going to spend the rest of their natural lives in prison?)
During the trial, it emerged that all three had spent time in custody for previous offences. Kriss’s scarred and partially-clothed body was discovered on the Clyde Walkway in the East End of Glasgow, near Celtic FC’s training ground, on March 16, 2004. The previous day, he had been abducted, stabbed repeatedly and set on fire while he was still alive.

#1  Sadly, in the UK it seems you can only be accused of racism if you're white - such is the PC madness we have adopted as our culture. Hopefully this case will put that to bed. They should have hung.
Posted by: Howard UK || 11/09/2006 3:33 Comments || Top||

#2  Howard, might I ask what your take is on the terrorism angle in this case? I firmly believe that, if not religiously motivated, this foul crime was largely enabled by the spewing of types like abu Hamza who, in essence, has told his followers that non-Muslims can be slaughtered wherever they are found on the street.

This amounts to sub rosa terrorism in that it can be easily attributed to ordinary crime, while deriving much of its enabling power from active religious hatred. We are seeing these "mini" terrorist acts here in America and the MSM has willfully refused to address the possibility that Islamist programming has anything to do with it. Be it an attack on a Jewish center or a Muslim student ramming his vehicle into a crowd of coeds, they all have a subtext of religious motivation.

I'm hoping that others will check in with their views on this. As security is ratcheted up, imams will per force be toning down their message of religious hate, leaving many young and impressionable jihadists to get their inspiration from the Internet instead. This will further decentralize terrorist planning and drive a trend towards these smaller scale sort of masked hate crimes.

I am concerned that much of this will begin to slip through the cracks with law enforcement, our national security apparatus and, even more than before, the media as well.
Posted by: Zenster || 11/09/2006 4:05 Comments || Top||

#3  I think a climate in which Imams are freely allowed to talk of the supremacy of Islam and the duty of Muslims to violently pursue a more favourable position in an 'alien' society adds a religious element to this crime - they may well believe their sins will be pardoned by Allah and thus in their eyes the crime is worth committing. I suppose we'd have to ask them... just seems part of the trend in Britain of Muslims being allowed to get uppity about their socially inferior position in spite of the consequences. The press are certainly not mentioning the 'I word' and portraying these guys as out and out psychopaths which they obviously are. Can't help but think that the good ol' RoP comes into play somewhere tho' - as does the amount of inbreeding amongst the Pakistani community.

#4  And thats the last you'll here of that story from the main stram media for the obvious reason that it wasnt some white guys torching an Asian. sighs. Far more horrific then the stephen laurance case yet has received about 1% if that of the media coverage that the Laurence case or for that matter any 'white vs others' case.
Posted by: Shep UK || 11/09/2006 5:13 Comments || Top||

#5  I live less than a mile from where Stephen Lawrence was murdered and it was a horrendous and despicable crime. However, the white community has been mercilessly koshed for the last ten plus years over this. The fact that a low-level race war, that has provided a higher proportion of white victims, is in progress is totally ignored. The local estates are now chock-full of Somalis (RoP again) and have become no-go areas for anyone respectable black or white - which has had a semi-unifying effect. This situation is the result of social engineering by a left-wing borough council and is ignored by pussy journos who don't want to inflame tensions further or risk being accused of being racist. Debate very much needed.

#6  Thank you very much for the more local insight, Howard and Shep, it is much appreciated. You'd think the Glaswegians would be in an uproar over this. I'm appalled at the notion that any of these cretins will ever see daylight again. That one of them is out on parole already really hacks me off.

#10  Match, gas, some assembly required. Why haven't these Muslims been hung? Burning a kid alive! We even protect these terrorist in prison...

The press is clearly hiding the religion of these porKoranimals by calling them "Asian". This protective PC masking is the reason the humans have not risen up to throw out these Kaaba rock kissers.

Howard we have the same leftist fools importing Somalian Muslims here in Minneapolis. The come and regardless of proof of ID, are put on welfare right away. The local press refuses to report any crimes of Somalis.

#14  Like I said in another post a few days ago; Europe will soon enough come to regret banning capital punishment. Once the Muslim invasion is in full swing, quite possibly it will only be vigilante street justice that saves them. The British Christians are already talking about taking up arms regardless (or because of) government policies. How soon will the populations of other nations follow suit?

The one singlemost crucial step forward in making people understand the threat is to begin declaring Islam a political ideology. Calling it Islamofascism is not quite enough. All of our politicians and religious leaders must adopt this new nomenclature to make it clear that Muslims are fooling no one.

The next step is to incrementally put in place measures increasingly unfriendly to Islam. First and foremost amongst those must be banning of the hijab, niqab and burqa. This will force extremists, especially the males to leave and will provide a mode of integration for Islamic women, if they want to take it.

Finally comes the big step of banning Islam itself. It is still beyond me that a creed which permits Abject Gender Apartheid can still be accepted as valid anywhere in the civilized world. The ritual and institutionalized abuse of women that goes on daily in almost all Islamic cultures is reason enough to ban this thuggish cult.

Sadly, far too much of our various political systems are largely patriarchal in nature and see little wrong with the horrors being inflicted upon women. Others simply cannot get past the moral relativism that demands allotting Islam respect where none is due. Finally, there are leaders like Bush who is so wrapped up in his own religiosity that he is unable to attack another putative faith no matter that its actions wholly go beyond the pale.

We must begin making our societies hostile to Islam, just as the MME (Muslim Middle East) countries are already inimicable to Western culture. Reciprocity must become the watchword. Without religious freedom in the MME, the practice of Islam must find no foothold here. The clock is ticking down swiftly. Look no farther than Iran for proof of that.

And do so without surrendering our principles, by simply refusing to accomodate their prejudices when it conflicts with our culture. No more segregated swim times. No more covered faces. Prosecute -- harshly! -- for the money laundering that masks itself as "charity".

#17  RC, do you feel that Islam should still be allowed to function in America while it continues to prohibit (or strongly discourges through weak penalties against attackers of) all other religions in so many of the MME countries?

What are your thoughts on flat-out banning it here in America? I say reciprocity must include true freedom of religion in the MME before we should allow Islam to continue existing here.

#18  These subhuman fuckers abducted and murdered an innocent child because he was a "whitey" I'm not sure how much radical islam has been an influence on their racist murderous behaviour but i'm bloody sure its not tolerated round here(WE glasgow).
Personaly I'd be tempted to subject these 2nd gen paki immigrants to sharia law but fortunetly for them i'm not judiciary, even though they admitted guilt ran away to their extended family in whackypakiland they were not turned in by their(OUR) community. A possible backlash to this is that we had a murder of an "asian businessman" here last night(i.e. pakistani shopkeeper stabbed three times in his neck in his store, polis are as usual reticent but gossip is half robbery gone wrong half twisted revenge attack )
Posted by: pihkalbadger || 11/09/2006 18:22 Comments || Top||

#19  pihkalbadger, you're a Glaswegian? (WE = West End?) I hadn't picked up on that bit of information before. If you would, please share the overall mood in your burg regarding this crime and the sentencing. Are you aware of why Mushtaq was given such a quick parole? Did the media in your area also obscure the Pakistani origin of these men to the same degree as British media? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

My own personal read in this is that Islam has shown itself to be rather racist. Darfur is solid proof of this. While Muslims may come in many flavors and colors, only Arab Wahabism and Salafism is putting itself up as the Master Race. Therefore, I firmly believe that Kriss' horrendous murder was not just racist but religiously driven as well.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Seven police officers killed in Chechnya car attack
(RIA Novosti) - Seven Russian police officers have been killed and one wounded in an attack by unidentified gunmen on the officers' minivan in Chechnya in Russia's North Caucasus, a top regional commander said Wednesday. "A special operation is under way," the commander of Russia's Joint Forces in the North Caucasus, Colonel-General Yevgeny Baryayev, said without giving details.

Chechnya's Prosecutor General Valery Kuznetsov said the gunmen blew up the officers' UAZ minivan before opening fire. The incident took place Tuesday near the village of Dair in the Shatoi district, about 30 miles south of Chechnya's capital, Grozny. The officers were part of an Interior Ministry Special Operations unit on temporary duty in Chechnya, from Russia's Mordovia region. Earlier reports said two officers were killed and two were missing, as a search and rescue operation was complicated by nightfall.

China-Japan-Koreas
B-2 Spy faces more charges
A 62-year-old Maui engineer who worked on the B-2 stealth bomber has been charged with using secret military information to help China build a stealth cruise missile.

A federal grand jury upgraded a former indictment against Noshir S. Gowadia, originally charged with selling information involving the B-2 aircraft to three unnamed countries, and has charged him with assisting China with designing and testing an exhaust system nozzle that protects a cruise missile from detection. The 18-count superseding indictment issued yesterday also charges Gowadia with sharing secret military information with representatives of China to benefit China or harm the United States.

"As charged in the superseding indictment, the defendant in this case attempted to profit from his know-how and his knowledge of sensitive military technology," Kenneth Wainstein, assistant attorney general for the national security division, said in a press release. "This case demonstrates that the Department of Justice will vigorously prosecute those who illegally transfer such information and services to foreign countries," Wainstein said.

Gowadia could face the death penalty under the new charges. There is also the possibility of life in prison and a fine of $250,000 or double the gain for his violation. The indictment describes six trips to China by Gowadia to discuss, design and test the stealth cruise missile, along with secret e-mails with a representative of China's "Foreign Experts Bureau."

Gowadia is also charged with unauthorized retention and possession of classified military information and four counts of laundering the money he was paid for his work with China.
The government said in a news release that it intends to acquire Gowadia's property, which helped in the espionage violations or which he bought with the money from the alleged money laundering.

Gowadia, a naturalized U.S. citizen from India, worked 18 years for Northrop Corp., where he was an engineer and designed the B-2 stealth bomber's propulsion system.
In an earlier indictment from November 2005, Gowadia was charged with three counts of sharing secret military information with people unauthorized to receive it and three counts of sending technical data to a foreign military without a proper license. The six counts from the original indictment were retained in the superseding indictment. Gowadia has been in federal custody since his Oct. 26, 2005, arrest.

The newest indictment charges Gowadia with secretly planning to violate the Arms Export Control Act by entering an illegal agreement to design and test the cruise missile nozzle. The indictment also charges Gowadia with performing a defense service for the Chinese government without obtaining approval from the U.S. Department of State. The FBI, U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations, IRS Criminal Investigation Division, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement are participating in the investigation of the case.

#2  One of two things needs to happen to this guy - either he gets the chair (or any of the variations thereof) or he gets multiple life terms. The important thing is to keep the secrets in this guy's head out of the hands of our adversaries. I'm personally of the view that he should share the fate of the Rosenbergs.

The key difference between this guy and Wen Ho Lee is that this guy did it for the money, making his treason easier to prove, whereas Wen Ho Lee did it out of patriotism (to China) meaning there was no cash trail to follow. This guy's indictment is a good start, but we're going to have to either upgrade our ability to prove cases like Wen Ho Lee's or downgrade our rules of evidence to throw bums like him in jail.

I agree, but it is probably not possible. All has to do is write them down, stick them in an envelope, and write "To Lawyer" on the outside of it. It becomes privileged information at that point. Pity. When they unmask someone like this, they should just have an accident. End of story.

Bush Renominates Bolton - Biden Can Compare Quals...heh heh
President George W. Bush will make a push to get confirmation for John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations before power in Congress shifts to the Democrats, the White House said on Thursday.

Bolton, the controversial former undersecretary of state, was blocked by the current, Republican-led Senate after Bush nominated him in 2005. But he has been serving as the U.N. envoy under a temporary "recess appointment" that allows him to serve until the new Congress convenes in January.

However, his prospects in the newly elected Congress look even less promising. Voters in Tuesday's election handed dominance of the U.S. House of Representatives to Democrats, and control of the Senate -- which has the power to confirm or reject Bolton -- is also expected to switch to Democrats pending the outcome of a race in Virginia.

The incumbent there, Republican Sen. George Allen, was expected to concede later on Thursday.

"This is something that we think is important, that he (Bolton) stay there," White House spokesman Tony Snow told reporters.

Snow said Bush discussed a desire to get Bolton confirmed during a breakfast meeting with Republican congressional leaders at the White House on Thursday.

The outgoing Congress is set to convene next week to wrap up its business before the end of the year. Bush also is seeking confirmation during that time period for ex-CIA director Robert Gates, his nominee to replace Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Democratic Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, the expected chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in a Democrat-led Senate, said on Wednesday he thought Bolton's nomination was "going nowhere."

"I never saw a real enthusiasm on the Republican side to begin with. There's none on our side," Biden said

Ties with UK sleuths may reveal 7/11 funds source
The anti-terrorism squad (ATS) of Mumbai police has traced the terrorists’ finances in 7/11 blasts to huge remittances from the UK, but the

sleuths could find conclusive evidence of the trail only up to Saudi Arabia and West Asia, where 25,000 Riyals were found from an LeT commander, Faisal Shiekh.

The cops believe that the money was sent to Faisal by another suspect, Rizwan Dawre, through Hawala channels via the West Asian route, but sourced from patrons in the UK. An ATS official pointed out,
“We could trace the trail to Saudi Arabia and Dubai, but have not yet been able to gather any conclusive evidence on links with the UK although we do suspect a substantial amount of funding come from immigrants there.”
“We could trace the trail to Saudi Arabia and Dubai, but have not yet been able to gather any conclusive evidence on links with the UK although we do suspect a substantial amount of funding come from immigrants there.”

However, with the latest tie-up with the UK police and intelligence officials, Mumbai police hope to gather enough evidence to track these sources of funding. A UK police official said, “Hawaladars (Hawala operators) in the UK are said to be forming a hawala triangle with Dubai and Middle East (West Asia) to India and Pakistan for significant international money-laundering activities that finance terrorist activities in the subcontinent.”

An official of the UK-based Serious Organised Crime Agency said while Hawala is used by millions of immigrants as a legitimate form of remittance transfer, the system is being increasingly manipulated by organised crime and, in smaller volumes, by international terrorists. The agency has identified some dedicated money-laundering controllers who use the Hawala system to finance terror operations in South Asia. David Armond, head of SOCA’s proceeds of crime unit, said organised crimes, including terrorism, uses money-laundering methods to finance terror activities and we have asked people to report any such suspicious activities to crack down on such operators.

“Khan could call on millions of pounds raised in the UK to fund LeT activities. According to our intelligence, this money could have been used to procure and equipment used in Mumbai train attacks.”
On July 19, Mumbai Mirror had carried a report, ‘7/11: The London Connection’, which highlighted that Scotland Yard was questioning a Coventry-based cabbie, Mohammad Ajmal Khan, serving a nine-year term to raise funds for Lashkar-e-Taiba. Peter Clarke, head of Scotland Yard’s anti-terrorist branch, said: “Khan could call on millions of pounds raised in the UK to fund LeT activities. According to our intelligence, this money could have been used to procure and equipment used in Mumbai train attacks.”

The clampdown on individuals and organisations with LeT links began last year after the Blair government promised to take stringent action against the UK nationals of Asian origin instrumental in funding Kashmiri militant organisations.

The hawala network represents one of the main conduits for both zakat and terrorist financial exchanges. We need our domestic treasury agents to recruit Middle Eastern operatives who can penetrate this critical link in terrorist funding.

Taliban claim Dargai attack
An unknown caller claimed that Pakistani Taliban carried out Wednesday’s deadly suicide attack on an army camp that killed 42 soldiers.
“We have 275 volunteers who have offered to be suicide bombers. We had a policy not to attack Pakistani forces, but after the Bajaur attack we have changed our policy now.”
The man refused to give his name in a telephone call to journalist Rahimullah Yousafzai. “He said that the group behind the suicide attack at an army camp is led by Abu Kalim Mohammad Ansari,” Yousafzai told AFP.

“We have recorded the statement which the suicide bomber gave before the attack and we will release it soon,” the caller said. “We have 275 volunteers who have offered to be suicide bombers,” he added. “We had a policy not to attack Pakistani forces, but after the Bajaur attack we have changed our policy now,” the caller said.

TSNM suspected
Pakistani security forces suspect the Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat Mohammadi (TNSM), a hardline Islamic group close to the Taliban, could be behind the suicide attack on Wednesday that killed 42 soldiers at an army training centre. The attack occurred in Dargai town in the tribal district of Malakand, which is a traditional stronghold of the TNSM. “Malakand is a stronghold of TNSM and the attack appears to be the handiwork of the banned group,” a senior security official told AFP. The official, who requested anonymity, referred to recent statements by TNSM loyalists who threatened suicide bombings to avenge the raid on a Bajaur madrassa.
The "Taliban" have claimed the attack and the TNSM are suspected. There's no real conflict here, since TNSM is a big part of the Pak "Taliban."

All killed in Bajaur were adults: ISPR
The government has claimed that the people killed in a Bajaur madrassa were aged 20 or above. The ISPR refuted politicians’ statements that the people who died were between 7 and 34. “Locals buried the bodies without showing them to the media,” said a spokesman. Pakistan madrassa raid 'kills 80'

At least 80 militants have been killed in an air strike by Pakistani forces on a madrassa (religious school) used as a militant training camp, the army says. The army said the madrassa in the tribal area of Bajaur bordering Afghanistan was destroyed by helicopter gunships early on Monday. One eyewitness told the BBC that 70-80 students were inside. A leading local politician says the dead were innocent.

Perhaps the other half of the casualties were children. It's time for Pakistani mothers to learn that madreassahs aren't the best place to let your children hang out.

To forestall any critics; I am well aware of how the madrassahs often represent the only opportunity for dirt poor kids to get an education. Seeing as how that education consists all together of memorizing the Koran and absolutely nothing else, I feel not one whit of sympathy over this. These madrassahs are the biggest single breeding ground for international terrorists in this entire world and the sooner all of them receive the same treatment as Bajaur, the better off our planet will be.

#2  the madrassahs often represent the only opportunity for dirt poor kids to get an education.

It isn't really an education though, is it. It's an opportunity to be beaten into memorizing the Koran in a language the boys don't understand, while being fed, clothed and sheltered, however poorly. Moat madrassahs are really dumping grounds for surplus sons, which prepare them to become surplus adults hoping to be fed by the congregations they serve as itinerant preachers -- of which there is a glut on the market, hence the easy transition to cannon fodder.

Or perhaps I'm just dyspeptic this morning.

#3  It isn't really an education though, is it.

Rote memorization, not even of the Bible or Torah, represents actual education. Upon further reflection, we may well have done any children who perished a favor. trailing wife, if as you say, that the madrassahs are a dumping ground for "surplus sons", then it is likely that such uncaring familes will not rise up against the rampant sexual abuse of these youngsters.

I urge all of you to read, The Psychoanalytic Roots of Islamic Terrorism by Phyllis Chesler. It was linked by regular Rantburg contributor A5089 in his Tuesday post titled, "Reformed jihadi tells it all about muslim imperialism". Chesler's eye-opening article documents the dangerous fallout of sexually repressed Islam, the horrible sexual toll it takes upon youth and the psychological aftermath that easily can lead to terrorist inclinations in resolving such sexual trauma.

As I said, we may well have done the youngest children a favor by dispatching them from a situation of near-constant sexual abuse. Once you have read Chesler's article, you will be unable ever to view Islam in the same light again, regarless of how negative your own impression may already be. It is not only Islam's women who suffer daily torment, but quite possibly huge numbers of its children as well. The often incestuous nature of this abuse literally guarantees its harm will remain buried and lurk as a repressed or latent factor in distorting the world view of young Muslims and their willingness to die while killing others in the process. When this abuse is not incestuous, it all too frequently transpires under the guise of religious authority, leaving scars of a unique and spiritually disfiguring nature.

The Pakistani madrassahs may well represent one of the largest networks of ritualized child sexual abuse in the entire world. Far exceeding even Thailand's underage sex trade. This represents a new angle in how to go about dismantling the madrassah network, however much human rights NGOs will probably turn a blind eye to it. Somehow, the scope and depth of this filthy depraved system must be brought out into sterilizing sunlight.

Woman, suspected militants killed in held Kashmir
Suspected Islamic militants dragged a woman from her home, shot and killed her Wednesday, while separately a rebel and two suspected Islamic militants were also killed in Indian Kashmir, police said. The woman, 40, was pulled out of her home by two suspected rebels and shot at close range in her garden in Warpora, a village 60 kilometres (37 miles) north of Srinagar, the summer capital of India’s Jammu-Kashmir state, said local police officer Imtiaz Hussain. Police were investigating the motive for the killing, he said. No other details were immediately available. Elsewhere in Kashmir, a suspected militant was killed in a gunbattle with army soldiers Wednesday in Thatri village, 170 kilometres (106 miles) north of Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu-Kashmir. Police in Thatri identified the rebel as Gul Nawaz, a commander of the outlawed Hezbul Mujahedeen militant group, said police superintendent Manohar Singh.

Iraq
Two years after U.S. assault on it, Fallujah returns to insurgent hands
FALLUJAH, IRAQ - When insurgents hid a bomb in front of his house a few days ago, intending to use it against U.S. or Iraqi troops, Majeed al-Rawi had only one option: Move out.
"If I report it to the Americans, I will be killed by the men who put it there, and if I don't, my family will be killed either by the explosion or the Americans," the car dealer said. "This is not a way to live; this is a way to hate life."

Two years after U.S. troops launched a devastating ground assault that purged, at least temporarily, the heart of the Iraqi insurgency, Fallujah once again is a violent place.

In recent months, insurgents have filtered back into the city, despite tight controls that limit access to only six checkpoints. Residents must submit to an extraordinary identification system that includes fingerprinting, retina scans and bar-coded identification cards.

An insurgent intimidation campaign has killed two City Council members and at least 30 police officers.

The campaign has been so effective that police patrols have all but stopped, as officers fear to walk the streets.

The number of shootings, bombings and bombs found and defused has doubled since last winter, to about four or five a day, U.S. officers say. There have been about half a dozen car bombings in recent weeks.

Residents and police alike complain bitterly that after two years security is eroding in what had been a U.S. success story.

"Bush didn't give us democracy, he gave us more new ways to be killed," Al-Rawi said. "I think there is no future anymore. I believe the only future is to leave this country. "We can win the war, but for now Al-Qaida has won in Fallujah," said a police officer who didn't want his name used for security reasons. "They made the police force stop patrolling streets, and that's a victory."

Because insurgents target them at home, many officers are living in the police stations. Others simply quit.

"What was I going to wait for that would keep me on the force?" said Muhammad Humadi, a captain who quit in August after one of his commanders was beheaded. "Nothing was going to get any better. I have children, and if I were to sacrifice myself it wouldn't change anything."

With more Americans expressing support for different policies in Iraq, Fallujah offers a lesson in frustration.

Until this August, Fallujah was relatively peaceful, at least by Iraqi standards. But then U.S. forces stepped up a campaign against insurgents in nearby Ramadi and added troops in Baghdad in an effort to quell growing violence there. Some military officers here think that pushed insurgents to Fallujah.

By mid-August, insurgent threats against and assassinations of police officers got so bad that half the police force stayed home for several days. Many quit or moved into their stations.

U.S. and Iraqi troops have nowhere near the manpower needed to take up the slack, said Lt. Col. James Teeples, the senior adviser to the Iraqi Army unit responsible for much of the city.

"We just don't have the manpower to maintain surveillance on the entire city," Teeples said.

Layers of distrust

Other factors contribute to the insecurity. Fallujah is nearly entirely Sunni, and so is its police force. But Shiites dominate the army, which doesn't trust the police force and thinks that insurgents have infiltrated it.

Many residents sympathize with the insurgents. At a clinic last week, word passed down a line of women who were waiting to see the doctor that a sniper had killed a U.S. soldier.

"I wish I'd shot him," one woman said, to the approval of some others.

U.S. commanders remain optimistic. Lt. Col. Jay Bargeron, the second in command of the Marine regiment that works in and around Fallujah, noted, for example, that Iraqis have stepped forward to replace the City Council members killed by insurgents and construction is evident on nearly every street as residents work to rebuild destruction from the November 2004 battle. A little positive news late in the article, editor must have missed it!

Still, the outlook is bleak for police officers, as they recount the slaying of the deputy police chief, the resignation of the police chief and the threats against and killings of other officers.

One officer said, "The future is vague, and I believe the war we are fighting is one of a kind and no one knows what the results might be."

#1  Fallujah may be a damned city. If the local residents cannot keep out the villains, who then attack the government, then there is a good chance the government will replace the citizens with different citizens, who can.

That is, the Sunnis must be convinced beyond all doubt that they must stop all violence in their area, or they will lose their area forever.

Medal for Bravery: Motaring Kids on a Soccer Field
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Explosive shells rained down on a dusty soccer field in the Shiite Muslim slum of Sadr City on Wednesday, killing eight Iraqi youths and injuring dozens amid an ominous wave of such attacks between sectarian districts of the capital.

The attack on the soccer field, carried out with rockets or mortar shells, occurred about 4:30 p.m. as young men and boys in the poor neighborhood gathered to play at the end of the day. The explosives carved deep craters into the surface and scattered shrapnel, human flesh and pieces of clothing in the area. The injured and dying were rushed to area hospitals.

I wish I was brave enough to attack a bunch of kids...

Four dead in raid on al-Qaeda hideout
FOUR insurgents have been killed and 48 arrested in a raid on a suspected al-Qaeda hideout in the restive western Iraqi city of Ramadi, the US military has said. The raid took place yesterday afternoon in Ramadi, the largest city in the western province of Al-Anbar and one of the fiercest sites of fighting between insurgents and US forces. "This area is known to be frequented by foreign fighters, and an al-Qaeda senior leader has launched suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices at coalition and Iraqi checkpoints in the past," the US military said. Iraqi state television has reported that senior al-Qaeda leader and bomb-maker Sayyaf Habib Mawla was captured in the raid.

Coalition forces repel attack: 8 Hardboyz Titzup,14 Jugged
KIRKUK, Iraq – Iraqi security and Coalition forces came under fire Nov. 6 when anti-Iraqi forces attacked a joint Iraqi and U.S. patrol near Dugmat, a small town about 45 kilometers south of Kirkuk, and fled to a compound where the fighting continued.

The fighting started during an ambush of a joint Iraqi and U.S. patrol. It is unclear how many AIF were in the area at the time of the ambush, but estimates put the number between 25-30.

After contact, AIF dispersed in several directions. One group of vehicles was tracked and attacked by Coalition attack helicopters, while another group fled to a compound outside the town. This group was heavily armed with machine guns, rocket propelled grenades and a large stockpile of ammunition.

Coalition Force attack helicopters, ground troops and close air support aircraft engaged the enemy, destroying their vehicles and hiding positions with precision fires, killing eight, capturing 14 and neutralizing various weapons and munitions. Coalition forces sustained one member killed and three others wounded in action.

Iraqi Security and Coalition Forces continue to exploit the area for further intelligence in order to bring peace and stability to the region.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israeli Shells Kill 18; Hamas Calls for Retaliation
BEIT HANUN — Israeli tank shells killed 18 Palestinians, including 8 children and 6 women, at a cluster of houses here today, igniting a fury that threatened a steep escalation in violence, with a Hamas leader calling for retaliation against Israel. “Nothing happened,” mumbled 5-year-old Isra Athamnah, pocked with shrapnel wounds and in shock. The news that her widowed mother, Sanaa, 35, was dead, and she was now an orphan, did not sink in.

Others described how a tank shell hit a home in this northern Gaza town, sending scores of sleeping members of the extended Athamnah family outside before dawn. The next volleys struck them as they crowded in a narrow alley between the houses, dismembering several among the dead, whose ages ranged from less than a year to 70, witnesses said. “What can I tell you about Maisa now?” cried out an elderly woman, apparently referring to a dead granddaughter. “All I could see was parts of bodies — a head here, brains on the other side.”

Hamas’s military wing also said in a statement that the United States should be taught “hard lessons” for supporting Israel. The threat, if vague, marked an unusual escalation for Hamas, an Islamic-based militant group that has pointedly portrayed its fight as being against Israel alone. It was immediately disavowed by Ghazi Hamad, the spokesman for the Hamas-led government in Gaza.
In response to one of the largest single losses of life here in years, several top Hamas leaders called for renewed suicide bombings inside Israel, after largely observing a unilateral truce it declared a year and a half ago. Khaled Meshal, leader of Hamas’s political bureau and exiled in Syria, said Hamas would answer the deaths with “deeds, not words.” In a statement, Mr. Meshal said: “All Palestinian groups are urged to activate resistance despite the difficult situation on the ground. Our confidence in our military wing to respond is great.”

The Israelis had just pulled out of Beit Hanun on Tuesday morning after a six-day operation in which they occupied the town and fought battles with militants, many of them from Hamas. Killed were at least 52 Palestinians, including 22 believed to be civilians, and one Israeli soldier. Israel said the operation was aimed at stopping Palestinian rocket fire into nearby Israeli towns like Sderot and Ashkelon. Nonetheless, 13 rockets were fired into Israel today, according to the army.

Israeli leaders, already on the defensive over the war against Hezbollah and the more than 300 Palestinians killed in operations in Gaza since the summer, issued immediate statements of regret. Defense Minister Amir Peretz ordered a halt to artillery attacks in the densely populated Gaza strip and an immediate investigation into the incident.

The military said it had launched “preventative” artillery shelling near the area, in response to some 10 Qassam rockets fired in the previous 24 hours. The Israeli notion is that shelling open areas will deter Palestinian militants from firing rockets from there, even though the deterrence is not clear and the shells are not uniformly accurate. In this case, the military said in a statement, initial reports showed rounds landing “at a location distant from the one reportedly hit.”

These turds never will learn, yet they have the gall to pretend that Israel's actions are aggressive and not retaliatory. Idjits. Israel needs to keep killing Palestinians until they themselves begin to take potshots at crews that set up the rocket launchers. Until then, nothing will change. Just as with Islam itself, reform must come from within.

#5  Islam cannot reform - it isn't allowed. The only options are to either kill or contain it. I'm not really excited about killing over a billion people, so containment seems to be the only answer. Unfortunately, we have two people with claims on the same territory - Jerusalem. I'm all for allowing Israel and the Jews to keep the land, based upon a prior claim. The overwhelming majority of the "palestinians" aren't descendants of the Cannanites, who have some claim, but of Arabs, who have none. Clean out the cesspit that is Gaza and the West Bank, and seal the borders with minefields.

The rest of us need to decide how to handle Islam. We need somewhere with defined borders that can be secured. Maybe the best idea would be to give Islam all of Africa, but ONLY Africa. Push them all into the one continent, and refuse to let them out for any reason. They'll either learn to all get along, or they'll kill each other off. Either solution is preferable to their killing US.

#6  I'm not really excited about killing over a billion people, so containment seems to be the only answer.

While the idea of one billion fatalities doesn't overjoy me either, containment simply will not and cannot work. These shits will develop nuclear weapons and recruit some or another European twit to smuggle them into America or elsewhere.

Reformation or annihilation are the only two alternatives. Islam is so reluctant to reform that they will drag their feet long enough whereby one of their fucked up radicals will commit an atrocity so heinous that we will incinerate the lot of them.

This is not what I want. It is what I predict. To date, Islam has given every indication that this will be the way things go. I've yet to see anything that contradicts or disproves this notion.

IAF strike kills one of Hamas's senior leaders in Gaza
Two Hamas operatives were killed and four others wounded when the IDF opened fire on a Kassam rocket-firing cell in northern Gaza on Wednesday. Wednesday evening, an IAF air strike targeted the vehicle of a senior Hamas operative in Rafah, indicating that the IDF demonstrated that it had no intention to stop its offensive against Gaza's terror infrastructure despite the morning's tragedy.
Ahmed Awad, the head of Hamas's Kassam rocket firing unit, was killed along with another Hamas when missiles struck their car. Awad was reportedly the nephew of PA Foreign Minister Mahmoud Zahar.
Ahmed Awad, the head of Hamas's Kassam rocket firing unit, was killed along with another Hamas when missiles struck their car as it traveled in the southern Gaza Strip. Awad was reportedly the nephew of PA Foreign Minister Mahmoud Zahar.

Israel was placed on high security alert of Palestinians seeking to renew suicide attacks inside the Green Line Wednesday, hours after errant IDF artillery shells tore through an apartment compound in Beit Hanoun, killing nineteen members of an extended family, including eight children. In light of the threats, Israel Police Inspector General Moshe Karadi raised the national alert level to number 5 - one below emergency level - and IDF soldiers and Police deployed additional road blocks and increased patrols along the Green Line and around cities in order to prevent infiltrations, security officials said.

Security officials said they had intelligence of four specific terror cells with explosives seeking to strike inside Israel. The officials said there were fourteen more general terror threats of cells in the final stages of preparations.

Jordan: Hamas members go on trial for terror plot
Three Hamas operatives went on trial Wednesday for conspiring to attack Israeli businessmen, Jordanian intelligence officers and various other locations in Jordan. Ayman Naji Daraghmeh, 34, Ahmed Abu Rabee, 27, and Ahmed Abu Thiyab, appeared in court but did not submit pleas because they have not appointed lawyers. The trial adjourned to Nov. 15 to allow the defendants time to obtain counsel. The defendants were also charged with illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.

In April, Jordanian authorities arrested 20 alleged Hamas members on suspicion of monitoring Jordanian intelligence officers and foreigner tourists to plan for possible attacks. Authorities released all but the three, apparently for lack of evidence. Al-Daraghmeh gave authorities the location of several weapons caches, the indictment sheet said.

Bombings target vehicle showrooms in southern Thailand
Insurgents have set off a series of bombs in car and motorcycle showrooms in Thailand's south, injuring up to 13 people. At least eight showrooms in the town of Yala were targeted simultaneously at about lunchtime. The bombs were hidden inside display vehicles.

Separatist groups are believed to be responsible for the attacks which mirror a coordinated bombing campaign two months ago; more than 20 banks were hit in and around Yala in those attacks.

Elsewhere in the province, there have been reports that some Buddhists have died after being attacked by Muslim insurgents. Twenty-four Buddhist families have reportedly sought refuge in a temple.

Beheaded girls were Ramadan 'trophies'
Stephen Fitzpatrick, Jakarta correspondent

THREE Christian high school girls were beheaded as a Ramadan "trophy" by Indonesian militants who conceived the idea after a visit to Philippines jihadists, a court heard yesterday.
The girls' severed heads were dumped in plastic bags in their village in Indonesia's strife-torn Central Sulawesi province, along with a handwritten note threatening more such attacks.

The note read: "Wanted: 100 more Christian heads, teenaged or adult, male or female; blood shall be answered with blood, soul with soul, head with head."

Javanese trader Hasanuddin appeared in Jakarta Central Court yesterday charged with planning and directing the murders in October last year. He faces a death sentence if found guilty under anti-terrorism legislation.

Hasanuddin allegedly returned from a visit to members of Philippines Islamist group the Moro Islamic Liberation Front with tales of how that organisation regularly staged bombings to coincide with Lebaran, the festival that ends the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. He later spoke with a preacher in Poso, Central Sulawesi, about whether such a plan could work in Indonesia, but expressed doubt about whether it was appropriate.

However, after further discussion with friends, he decided that beheading Christians could qualify as an act of Muslim charity.
Words fail.

Conscripting several accomplices at a local pesantren, or Islamic school, he directed one of them, Lilik Purnomo, to seek out "the head of a Christian", prosecutors alleged.

"It would be a great Lebaran trophy if we got a Christian. Go search for the best place for us to find one," Hasanuddin allegedly ordered his companion.

Lilik returned to say he had found an "excellent" target - a group of schoolgirls who travelled to and from class by foot in the Central Sulawesi village of Gebong Rejo. The village is in the district of Poso, where hundreds of people have died in sectarian violence in recent years.

Many observers worry that Central Sulawesi has become the latest battleground in a deadly jihad.

Three Christian men were executed there last month for their role in a massacre of Muslims in 2000 and there have been a series of deadly attacks in the province in recent months.

Prosecutors yesterday detailed how Hasanuddin, Lilik and co-accused Irwanto Irano planned the schoolgirl beheadings with six other men. They prepared six machetes and black plastic bags for carrying off the severed heads and spent several days surveying the area where the students regularly passed by.

The operation was called off on one occasion, when a woman spotted the attackers hiding by the roadside, waiting for their victims. On the night before the attack, Lilik told Hasanuddin: "I hope you are ready to receive your Lebaran gift."

The attack was launched the following morning, but only four of the six targeted girls appeared.

Lilik, directing the attack from a nearby hill, told his accomplices to act quickly so that the remaining two girls could still be killed should they appear behind their friends.

The attackers cleanly beheaded three of the students but a fourth, Noviana Malewa, escaped after a struggle and ran away screaming. Her attackers gave chase but were unable to catch her.

The bodies, dressed in school uniform, were left by the roadside near the execution site, but the heads were carried in a backpack to Hasanuddin. The trial of his two co-accomplices was adjourned until Wednesday, when Hasanuddin will also reappear.

This is what makes Islam as, or more, dangerous than communism. Just as the Soviets believed that they were going to save us Western capitalist wage slaves by "liberating" us into the world of scientifically planned socialism, these Muslim bastards think that bringing Islam to this world is the single greatest gift they can bestow, even if it is by a sword (upon the neck).

This is the sort of zealotry we face. Those who think that negotiation or appeasement of any sort will satisfy such blind devotees are essentially as dangerous as the zealots themselves.

Explosive Powder Found on Chinese Ship
BATAM, Indonesia (AP) - Indonesian troops found detonators and 63 tons of explosive powder on a Chinese ship anchored off Batam island after it broke down in the Malacca Strait, a local police chief said. "We are trying to find out if these explosives were legal and what they were intended for," said Brig. Gen. Sutarman, head of the Riau Islands police, adding that documents found on the ship indicated it was bound for Yemen.

Police who boarded the M.V. Rose at the Cita Tubindo port in Batam, just south of neighboring Singapore, found one container filled with detonators and five others packed with 63 tons of explosive powder, he said.

National and local police are investigating the cache, he said, refusing to say how many people have been questioned over the case.

Muslims on trial over girl beheadings
THREE Indonesian Muslims went on trial in Jakarta today accused over the beheading of three Christian schoolgirls a year ago in a crime that triggered international condemnation. The men, appearing in two separate trials in the capital Jakarta, are all accused of plotting terrorism and face the death penalty if convicted.

The teenage girls were walking home from school when they were beheaded by machete in October 29, 2005. Two heads were found near a police post and the third outside a church. The attack took place in the Gebang Rejo area of the religiously-divided district of Poso where Muslims and Christians live in roughly equal numbers.

At Central Jakarta district court, prosecutors accused the first defendant, Hasanuddin alias Hasan alias Slamet Raharjo, 34, of having "planned and/or mobilised others to conduct crimes of terrorism by intentionally using violence with the aim of creating terror ... or cause massive numbers of victims."

State prosecutor Payaman said Mr Hasanuddin and six other Muslims took part in planning and carrying out the murders. He quoted Mr Hasanuddin as having told his accomplices before the murder that "the aim of this activity is to seek justice for our brothers and sisters who have been sadistically and inhumanly slaughtered."

Poso and its surrounding district have been the scene of sporadic unrest since violence between Muslims and Christians claimed around 1000 lives in 2000 and 2001. Mr Payaman named the others as Lilik Purnomo and Irwanto Irano, who were on trial separately, as well as four others still on the run. The prosecutor said Mr Hasanuddin asked a local Muslim cleric to hide the machete, allegedly telling him: "This contains a machete, please keep it safe as it has just been used."

The joint trial of Mr Purnomo and Mr Irano opened later on the same charges. Prosecutors have said the trials are being held in Jakarta, rather than in Central Sulawesi which includes Poso, for "security considerations."

The beheadings sparked an angry reaction in Indonesia. They were condemned by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono while Pope Benedict XVI deplored what he described as "barbaric murder."

Sri Lanka
Rebels claim 45 civilians killed
SRI Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels said 45 civilians were killed and 125 were injured today when army artillery fire hit a camp for internally displaced in the island's restive east. The military said the Tigers had been firing at military camps in the area since early morning, injuring five soldiers, and that troops had retaliated with artillery and mortar bomb fire, but had no details of any civilian casualties.

A team of Nordic truce monitors was on the way to the site of the incident in Kathiraveli in the eastern district of Batticaloa, the latest in a litany of clashes amid a new chapter of the island's two-decade civil war. "They have hit a camp for displaced. So far 45 have died and 125 are injured – all civilians," S.Puleedevan, head of the Tigers' Peace Secretariat, said by satellite phone. Mr Puleedevan said he was visiting the northern town of Pooneryn, near the army-held Jaffna peninsula, with the head of the island's Nordic truce monitoring mission, and that the army was also firing artillery at them there.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Sri Lankan military have clashed repeatedly in the north and east in recent months, since peace talks collapsed in late October. The air force has repeatedly bombed Tiger areas since the talks failed. The military said the Tigers were firing at Government forces and using civilians as cover. "From morning they have been firing artillery at us," said military spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe. "We have been retaliating with artillery and mortars. There's no army offensive going on."

"We have been asking people to leave Tiger areas and to come to our areas, and 594 people have done so," he added. "But some of them are being kept as human shields."

Well over 65,000 people have been killed in the conflict since 1983. The first peace talks in eight months collapsed in late October over a rebel demand that the government reopen the main northsouth highway which runs through Tiger territory.

#3  It was rumored that Pia Zadora's performance in the stage version of The Diary of Anne Frank was so bad that when Nazi soldiers came to the house in which her character was hidden, the audience stood up and yelled: "She's in the attic!" Just a rumor, however.

#5  Laugh at her all you want, she has a nice tush. I used to hangout at the local Woolworths in Catskill NY(which she owned) hoping to get a chance to tap that. Biatch never did show up, and then she sold it before it went out of business. By the way, I have stunningly extremely good looks, or at least did 15 years ago.
