[FoxNews] Former Mexican defense secretary Gen. Salvador Cienfuegos, who led the country’s army for six years under ex-President Enrique Peña Nieto, has been arrested on drug trafficking and money laundering charges at Los Angeles International Airport, U.S. and Mexican sources said Thursday.
Two people with knowledge of the arrest said Cienfuegos was taken into custody on a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration warrant. One of the people said the warrant was for drug trafficking and money laundering charges. Both spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case publicly.
The DEA declined to comment Thursday night.
Mexico’s Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, wrote on his Twitter account that U.S. Ambassador Christopher Landau had informed him of the retired general’s arrest and that Cienfuegos had a right to receive consular assistance.
Cienfuegos served from 2012 to 2018 as secretary of defense under Peña Nieto. He is the highest-ranking former Cabinet official arrested since the top Mexican security official Genaro Garcia Luna was arrested in Texas in 2019. Garcia Luna, who served under former President Felipe Calderón, has pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking charges.
Cienfuegos is 72 years old and has retired from active duty. Mexico’s Defense Department had no immediate reaction to the arrest.
[KhaamaPress] A female resident — known as commander Kaftar — joined the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... Death Eaters in Baghlan province of North Afghanistan, the turban group claimed in a statement Thursday.
While the Afghan government did not immediately comment or affirm the claim, Taliban front man Zabihullah Mujahid in a tweet Thursday evening said Kaftar has been "forced" to stand against Islamic Emirates’ Mujahidin.
"Female commander (Kaftar) mislead by enemy & forced to apparently stand against IEA Mujahidin in Sajano area of Nahrin district #Baghlan joined Mujahidin along with her armed followers earlier today," he said. "Preaching & Guidance Commission officials welcomed them."
North Afghanistan is an insecure zone, where a number of residents in some provinces stood armed to fight against the Taliban turbans, supporting Afghan Security and Defense Forces in their battle. They are known as the People’s Uprising Forces.
[ToloNews] At least 64 Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... fighters were killed and maimed in counterattacks by Afghan forces over the past 24 hours in Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... , Kandahar, Zabul and Maidan Wardak provinces, the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoI) said on Friday as violence continues to rage on in multiple fronts across the country.
Taliban so far has not commented on the figures provided by the ministry.
Meanwhile, ...back at the alley, Bugs Moroni was holding Slats from behind while his brother Greasy Thumb was pounding his face into paste ... a car kaboom happened near a security forces’ base in Maidan Wardak province. Four soldiers were maimed, according to security officials, who said reinforcements have been sent to help the troops at the base.
Violence has continued to increase in the last few weeks amidst ongoing peace negotiations in Doha that are also faced with disagreements on its procedural rules.
Civilians have also been affected by the recent surge in violence in the country. At least six non-combatants were killed when their vehicle hit a roadside mine in the city of Ferozkoh, the center of Ghor province in the west of Afghanistan, the Interior Affairs Ministry said.
The Senate Speaker Fazl Hadi Moslemyar at an event in Kabul on Friday called on the Taliban to agree on a ceasefire.
"Our opposition, the Taliban, should agree on a ceasefire if they call themselves Moslems and if they feel the pain of the Moslem nation of Afghanistan," he said.
"If there is a will for peace both from the government and the Taliban, it should not take more than two or three months. Why should it take years?" asked Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, former Afghan ambassador to Pakistain.
Zalmay Khalilzad, US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, on Thursday said the current level of violence is a threat to the grinding of the peace processor.
"Attacks have been on the rise in recent weeks - threatening the grinding of the peace processor and alarming the Afghan people and their regional and international supporters," Khalilzad said.
[ToloNews] Almost 22 districts are faced with security threats by the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... in the northeastern Badakhshan province that was once among the most secure provinces in the country, Badakhshan governor Zakaria Sawda said on Thursday.
Security sources said that there are more than 400 imported muscle in Badakhshan.
"International terrorist groups have close relations with Al Qaeda and ISIS. This is one of the main reasons for the conflicts in Badakhshan," Sawda said.
So not really the Taliban, just Taliban-adjacent.
According to security sources, some imported muscle have reached near border areas with Tajikistan through Badakhshan’s Jurm and Wardooj districts.
"Their main purpose is to help the Taliban, and in their long-term objectives, they want to get access to Tajikistan and China," said Abdullah Naji Nazari, a member of Badakhshan Provincial Council.
Why are Tajikistan and China hot jihadi playgrounds all of a sudden? Are they running away from Turkey’s SNA units in Libya and Azerbaijan?
Taliban has not commented on their ties with imported muscle in Badakhshan.
Badakhshan residents said security threats have reached close to the city of Faiz Abad, the center of the province.
"The presence of illegal gunnies has changed into a big problem for the people," said Abdul Basir Wasiq, a civil society activist in Badakhshan.
From the military perspective, the north-eastern Badakhshan province is one of the strategic provinces in the north. Badakhshan has 27 districts and shares borders with Pakistain, China and Tajikistan.
The increase in violence comes amidst ongoing peace negotiations in Doha.
Sure, but the negotiations are only with the Quetta Shura Taliban. All other Taliban groups, not to mention non-Taliban jihadis, are even less bound by any agreement than the negotiators.
This comes as Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... governor Yasin Khan on Thursday said that imported muscle are backing the Taliban in the ongoing attacks in his province.
Yasin Khan said that imported muscle associated with Al Qaeda, and Pakistain-based Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba ...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI... are supporting the Taliban in the battle.
He said that the Taliban has provided safe havens to the fighters associated with Al Qaeda, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, stating that these terrorist organizations are providing military and bomb-making training to the Taliban fighters.
The Taliban front man has rejected the claims.
”Pshaw! Harrrumph! Perish the thought!”
The Taliban launched a massive offensive on Lashkargah city a week ago. The Taliban also attacked parts of Nawa, Nahr-e-Saraj, Nad-e-Ali districts.
[All Africa] The Mozambican defence and security forces on Wednesday night repelled a terrorist attack against the town of Macomia, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, reports Friday's issue of the independent newssheet "Carta de Mocambique".
The jihadist murderous Moslems first attacked the village of Nacate, about 16 kilmetres from Macoma, and then moved towards the town.
The terrorist group started to burn houses, but soon found it was outnumbered by the Mozambican forces. The newsheet's sources said the terrorist were divided into three groups, numbering a total of about 80.
But they faced some 200 Mozambican troops, and so retreated. One person is known to have died, a woman burnt alive inside her house when the murderous Moslems set it on fire. The sources did not know whether any murderous Moslems or Mozambican troops had bit the dust.
Further north, in Palma district, the Mozambican forces say they came across arms caches in some houses. The guns were found in an operation against houses suspected of sheltering terrorists. But they did not say how many guns were found, or when these searches took place.
There was also an attack on Wednesday night against Ndique village, in Quissanga district, according to a report in a second newssheet, "Mediafax". Two people, one elderly and the other young, were rubbed out in this raid, but no further details are yet available.
"Mediafax" also reported a possible attack by Mozambican jihadists across the border, in southern Tanzania. Citing the portal "Pinnacle News", the newssheet said the attack supposedly took place against the village of Quitaia, near the Mtwara quiet provincial capital.
15 people are believed to have died, but it is not known whether they were Tanzanians or Mozambicans, since the village shelters Mozambican refugees fleeing from the terror in their own country.
The Tanzanian authorities have not yet confirmed the attack.

I dunno what happened here, but I happened to drive I-80 through Nebraska a while ago, and the billboards were Trump-Jesus-Join the Marines-Trump-Jesus-Join the Marines-Trump-Jesus-Join the Marines for a few hundred miles. Very relaxing.

The attack resulted in martyrdom of the 6 troops.
"Terrorist IED attack on security forces convoy near Razmak, North Waziristan. Resultantly 1 officer and 5 soldiers embraced Shahadat," said an ISPR statement issued on Thursday. Those embraced Shahadat are identified as Capt Umar Farooq, Naib Subedar Riaz Ahmed, Naib Subedar Shakeel Azad, Havaldar Younas Khan, Naik Muhammad Nadeem and Lance Naik Asmat Ullah.

It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... , said the ISPR.
The ISPR said that the security forces responded effectively, ensured security of the OGDCL persons and managed their safe exit from the area. During the clash, substantial losses were also incurred to the terrorists. However, it was a brave man who first ate an oyster... the ISPR said, "As a result of this encounter, 7 brave soldiers of FC Balochistan ...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. [FreeBeacon] Two senior al Qaeda operatives were reportedly killed in an American dronezap in Syria’s Idlib Governorate on Thursday.
Though the strike has yet to be confirmed by the Department of Defense’s Central Command, regional experts have circulated images and information indicating that the two operatives were killed. The two operatives, Abu Dhar al-Masri and Abu Yusuf al-Maghrebi, were both defectors from Huras al-Din, an bully boy group active in Syria.
A 2019 dronezap was said to have killed key members of Huras al-Din, including Abu Dhar, but the new strike’s confirmation would dispel those rumors.
While al Qaeda's numbers have dwindled significantly in recent years—the State Department estimates al Qaeda’s contingent in Afghanistan is below 200 members—it is also the case that the terrorist group still cooperates with the more-established insurgency of the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... Due to increasing regional instability, Washington sent a new cohort of U.S. troops to Syria in September. Recent reporting also shows a renewed pattern of Russian aggression in Syria.
A new report from NBC News suggests that President Donald Trump ...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons...... is considering giving a landmark foreign-policy speech in the coming weeks, with an added emphasis on his changing Middle East policy. In recent weeks, the president has said he hopes to bring all troops in Afghanistan home by Christmas, though senior national security officials in the administration consider the prospect unlikely.
At present, the Pentagon has no stated plans to bring all troops from Afghanistan home, though troop reductions with a target of 2,500 to 3,000 personnel remaining in Afghanistan have already been planned, with strategists working on limited withdrawal options to meet that goal.
I keep pointing out, you can't zap these guys until you know where they are. And they know it and it must drive them nuts trying to figure out how that happened.
Which may well mean doing counterproductive things internally; killing suspected spies, restricting various activities they'd prefer to be able to do.
