[Al Ahram] Talibs killed at least 22 security forces, including a district police chief, in separate attacks on security checkpoints in two Afghan provinces, officials said on Sunday, ahead of parliamentary elections set for this week.

The police chief of Mizan, a district in southern Zabul province, was killed in armed festivities with Taliban bandidos krazed killers on Saturday night, the provincial governor, Rahmatullah Yarmal, said.
In the western province of Farah, Taliban fighters killed 21 troops at two checkpoints in the district of Posht-e Rud.
The Taliban captured 11 soldiers and seized their weapons, added Gul Ahmad Faqiri, a member of the Farah provincial council.
The hardline Islamist krazed killer group claimed the attacks.
"Our fighters have killed the police chief and 25 Afghan soldiers in two provinces on Saturday night," its front man, Zabiullah Mujahidhe, said in a statement.

[Al Jazeera] A court in Egypt has sentenced three people to death for their involvement in the killing of coppers and belonging to an gang.
The defendants were found guilty by a Cairo criminal court on Sunday of being involved in the killing of 10 coppers, including an officer, between August 2013 and May 2014.
The charges also included establishing and running an gang known as Ansar al-Sharia ...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet... Both the defence and prosecution have the right to appeal.
Four others were sentenced to life imprisonment - a 25-year term in Egypt - and seven defendants to 15 years in prison. Nine of the 23 defendants were acquitted.
Egyptian courts have issued or confirmed a large number of death sentences in recent weeks.
On Thursday, a military court sentenced 17 people to death for attacks against churches in 2016 and 2017 that killed a total of 74 people.

[Al Ahram] Twenty-two people, including children, were killed when a truck carrying migrants colonists crashed in the western Ottoman Turkish province of Izmir on Sunday, the state-owned Anadolu news agency reported.
The mangled wreckage of the open-topped truck lay toppled over in a canal, some 20 metres below a highway from which it apparently fell after crashing through a barrier, video and photos published by Anadolu showed.
Thirteen people were maimed and taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals, it said.
A state prosecutor has launched an investigation into the crash and the truck driver could face arrest after hospital treatment, it added.
According to the private Demiroren news agency (DHA), the truck's passengers were foreign migrants colonists who had reached a deal with traffickers to be transported by boat to the Greek island of Samos south of Izmir.
Nine of those injured were children, DHA said. It was not clear where the migrants colonists were from.

[DAWN] Indian forces target-bombed a civilian residential area near the Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday, resulting in severe injuries to an 8-year-old boy, the military's media wing said.
The "unprovoked" shelling by the Indian army occurred in the Chiri Kot sector of the LoC, said a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), adding Pak forces "responded effectively to the Indian post that engaged in the shelling".
The injured boy was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
The latest violence along the heavily militarised border comes after only a few weeks of relative calm.

A Gazoo terror group said it launched the first-ever incendiary "blimp" towards Israel during Friday’s riots and demonstrations along the Gazoo border.
A video circulating in Paleostinian media on Saturday showed members of the "Sons of Zouari" group launching the approximately 5-meter device, essentially a large balloon designed to look like a blimp or dirigible, over the border east of the al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gazoo.
The balloon carried a message in Hebrew that said: "If our fate is to be doomed to suffer, then we will not suffer alone."
It was not clear if the "blimp" made it across the border, or started any fires inside Israel.
The device was said to have been launched amid intense festivities with Israeli security forces Friday afternoon in one of the deadliest days in months of mass protests along the Gazoo border.
The Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,-run health ministry said seven Paleostinians were killed by Israeli fire in the festivities, and over 140 other injured. The ministry said four were killed in one location, where the IDF said it opened fire on 20 rioters who blew a hole in the border fence with a bomb and rushed an army post. No Israeli troops were harmed, the army said. The three Gazooks were "meters" away from the troops when they fired, Hadashot TV news reported on Saturday.
Two other Paleostinians were killed in other protest locations, according to the health ministry. On Saturday morning, it announced that a seventh protester shot in the intense festivities had departed this vale of tears.
Israel said 14,000 Paleostinians thronged the border fence areas Friday afternoon, burning tires and throwing bombs, grenades, rocks, and Molotov cocktails at soldiers stationed on the other side of the barrier.
Since March, Hamas, an Islamist terror group that seeks to destroy Israel, has orchestrated near-weekly protests along the fence, which have seen repeated violent festivities between Paleostinian rioters and IDF troops. Some 150 Paleostinians have been killed, according to AP figures; Hamas has acknowledged that dozens of the dead were its members.
The protests have also seen Paleostinians sending incendiary devices attached to balloons into Israeli territory, sparking fires that have scorched over 7,000 acres of land and caused millions of shekels in damage.
On Friday, 10 fires broke out in southern Israel that were sparked by incendiary balloons launched over the border from Gazoo as part of the ongoing protests.
On Saturday one fire broke out near Kibbutz Be’eri. Three incendiary balloons were also found in the Ashkelon Regional Council, the Eshkol Regional Council, and Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem neighborhood.

One of the Gazook Paleostinians who blew a hole in the security fence and crossed the border into Israel on Friday was killed at point-blank range after approaching a soldier with a knife, the military said early Sunday.
Seven Paleostinians were killed in all and at least 252 were maimed in intense festivities with Israeli security forces along the Gazoo border on Friday afternoon and evening, the Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede,-run health ministry said.
In the most serious incident, in the south of the Strip, the Israel Defense Forces said several Gazooks planted a bomb by the fence. After it went kaboom! and blew a hole in the fence, some 20 Paleostinians rushed through and ran toward Israeli soldiers stationed in a snipers’ nest.
Most of the Gazooks pulled back and returned through the fence into the Strip after the soldiers fired warning shots into the air. However, Switzerland makes more than cheese... several continued to move toward the soldiers, who fired at them, according to Sgt. Omer Kaplan, a field intelligence soldier who monitors the border through surveillance cameras.
Major Ben Hallel, an officer in the Paratroopers Brigade who commanded the troops during the incident, said the Paleostinian was armed with a knife and tried to attack a soldier, who shot up close range and killed him.
"We received a reports from the lookouts, saying that one of the bandidosgunnies remained in Israeli territory, just under where we were stationed. One of the soldiers, who was near the location, spotted the terrorist, who approached him with a knife," Hallel said.
The military’s investigation of the incident found that the soldier called on the Paleostinian to stop several times before shooting him, the Walla news site reported. The report said the IDF assessed that he intended to grab the soldier’s weapon.
The bodies of three Paleostinians were taken back into the Strip by rioters, Hadashot TV news reported.
Hadashot reported that for the first time soldiers were being shot at with crossbows.

Sappers were called Saturday after a civilian discovered incendiary balloons in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Ein Kerem.
According to a police statement, the individual spotted the balloons and drove with them in a vehicle before handing them over to a police patrol in the area.
The tactic of sending airborne incendiary devices into Israeli territory has been used almost daily by Paleostinians in the Gazoo Strip since the start of weekly border protests there in March, but it is unlikely this balloon device was launched from the coastal enclave.
There have been a number of incidents in which West Bank Paleostinians appear to have copied the tactic, sending devices into Israeli communities and settlements.
This is the third time in a week that similar devices have been discovered in Jerusalem.
Israel Police sappers were called in Wednesday to neutralize an incendiary device attached to a balloon that landed in a construction site for a kindergarten in the heart of Jerusalem near Emek Refaim Street, the main road in the capital’s upscale German Colony neighborhood.
On Thursday a woman found incendiary balloons in the Valley of the Cross, near the Knesset, collected them and took them with her to her next destination before calling the police. Sappers took the balloons and swept the area where they were found for any other such devices.
Last week, police neutralized a similar incendiary balloon discovered in the courtyard of a home in the West Bank settlement of Givat Ze’ev, just north of Jerusalem.
[Gulf Today] At least two Abu Sayyaf militants were killed in operations launched by Philippine security forces on the island province of Sulu in Mindanao. Police reported that lawmen killed the two armed rebels, who resisted and fired at them while being served a warrant for their arrest in the town of Indanan, Sulu on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said they also arrested four accomplices of the slain terrorists from whom were seized a shotgun, two pistols and assorted ammunition as well as several sachets of crystal meth.
The killings are part of continuing “search and destroy operations” launched by troops in Sulu and the neighboring island province of Basilan. In particular, the military said their attention has been focused on the rescue of at least 15 hostages held by the militants.

[Al Jazeera] A deadline passed on Monday without fighters leaving a planned buffer zone around Syria's last major rebel bastion of Idlib as set out under a Russian-Ottoman Turkish deal.
The gangs were supposed to withdraw from the buffer as a final condition to implementing a Russian-Ottoman Turkish agreement to stave off a Syrian government offensive on the northwestern region of Idlib.
The accord hung in the balance early Monday, seven years into a grinding civil war that has killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced millions.
Just hours before the deadline expired, rebels vowed to continue to fight.
"We have not abandoned our choice of jihad and fighting towards implementing our blessed revolution," said Hayet Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an alliance led by al-Qaeda's former Syrian affiliate.
"We appreciate the efforts of all those who strive inside and abroad to protect the liberated area," it said in an apparent reference to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor.... "But at the same time, we warn of the deceitfulness of the Russian occupier," it said of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Horror of Homs... 's ally.
Under the deal, heavy weapons were to have been withdrawn from the horseshoe-shaped buffer by October 10 and fighters to have left by Monday.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels in the Latakia and Hama governorates have yet to leave the Idlib buffer zone, despite the fact the deadline for their withdrawal is only hours away.
According to a military source in Latakia, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and the Turkestan Islamic Party continued raising new trenches near the key town of Kabbani, as Syrian and Russian troops observed from afar.
The source said that the entire Kabbani front has been heavily fortified by the jihadist rebels, prompting the Syrian military to believe there will be no withdrawal from the Latakia part o the buffer zone agreement.
Furthermore, the Syrian military watched as the jihadist rebels in the al-Ghaab Plain strengthened their positions and reinforced their lines.
The deadline for the complete withdrawal of all rebel forces, including jihadists, is set for midnight on October 15th.
Thus far, some rebel groups have withdrawn from the buffer zone; however, a large number of fighters still remain in the designated de-escalation area.

[ALMASDARNEWS] Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham launched a surprise attack in the Jabal Turkmen region of northern Latakia, today, targeting the positions of a rival jihadist group near the Ottoman Turkish border.
According to local reports, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham launched a powerful attack on the bases of Kata’eb Ansra al-Sham in the Jabal Turkmen region on Sunday morning.
Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham managed to capture some of their rival’s positions, forcing them to ultimately retreat towards the Ottoman Turkish border in order to evade capture.
The reason for the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham attack is still unknown; however, both groups have clashed in the past, despite their ongoing war against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

The jihadists raided the camp on Friday, taking "more than 100 families" including relatives of IS defectors and of jihadists killed in fighting, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
A number of fighters of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) died trying to defend the camp in a battle that lasted several hours, the Britannia-based monitoring group said.
The US-backed SDF launched a major assault on Sept 10 on the small stretch of the Euphrates Valley around the town of Hajin where they estimate some 3,000 jihadists are holed up. But they have sustained heavy casualties in the operation being conducted with US-led air support.
Since Wednesday, 37 SDF fighters have been killed in jihadist counter-attacks, the Observatory said. IS has lost 58 fighters, most of them in retaliatory coalition air strikes, it added.
"IS is pressing its attacks in the Hajin area as the SDF battles to hold them off with the support of the international coalition," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) carried out another deadly operation in the Arin region of northwest Aleppo this week..
According to the official media wing of the YPG, their sleeper cell carried out a sniper attack in Khezawiye village this week, killing a Ottoman Turkish-backed rebel from the Free Syrian Army ... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund... (FSA) in the process.
"On October 11th, our unit carried out a sniper action targeting an official in charge of the checkpoint set up by the invader Ottoman Turkish army and its mercenaries in the Khezawiye village, located near to Afrin city. As a result, a terrorist of the Sham Legion (Faylaq al-Sham) named Maher Ibrahim, originally from Idlib, was killed," the YPG media statement read.
The YPG would carry out another operation the following day, targeting the FSA’s Hamza Division at the Nebi Houri Castle in Afrin’s Shera District.
"On October 12th, one of our units ambushed the mercenaries of the Hamza Division in the Nebi Houri castle area of Afrin’s Shera district. As a result, two bad boyz were potted. They were identified as Mohammed Alawi from Homs and Abeed Ahmed from Idlib," the YPG statement said.

According to the terrorist group’s media wing, the Islamic State seized a large quantity of US-made weapons and killed scores of fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces after repelling their assault in eastern Deir Ezzor.
The terrorist group claimed that more than 30 fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces were killed after two different attacks at the Shafah axis.

[IsraelTimes] Iran’s judiciary front man is saying a court has sentenced a dual national man to eight and a half years in prison after finding him guilty of infiltration of important governmental bodies.
Sunday’s report by the semi-official ISNA news agency quotes Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejehi as saying the suspect was tried based on a report by the intelligence department after he infiltrated "some sensitive centers." The report identifies the convict’s surname as Tavakkoli and says he was also fined $48,000. It doesn’t include his other nationality, but adds: "Usually these sorts of individuals are working for the US and Israel."
Iran occasionally detains dual-nationals over similar security charges.
In 2015, Iran detained a Lebanese engineer residing in the US and later sentenced him to 10 years in prison on spying charges.
