Known as "The First lady of the American Theater", Helen Hayes had a legendary career on stage and in films and television that spanned over eighty years. Hayes was born in Washington, D.C., to Catherine Estelle "Essie" Hayes, an actress who worked in touring companies, and Francis van Arnum Brown, a clerk and salesman. Her maternal grandparents were Irish. A child actress in the first decade of the 20th century, by the time she turned twenty in 1920 she was well on her way to a landmark career on the American stage, becoming perhaps the greatest female star of the theatre during the 1930s and 1940s. She made a handful of scattered films during the silent era and in 1931 was signed to MGM with great fanfare to begin a career starring in films. Her first three films, Arrowsmith (1931), The Sin of Madelon Claudet (1931), and A Farewell to Arms (1932), were great hits and she would win the 1932 Oscar for Best Actress for her work in Madelon Claudet. Alas, her lack of screen glamour worked against her becoming a box office star during the golden era of Hollywood, and her subsequent films were often not well received by critics. Within four years she had abandoned the screen and returned to the stage for the greatest success of her career, "Victoria Regina", which ran for three years starting in 1935. Helen Hayes returned to motion pictures with a few featured roles in 1950s films and frequently appeared on television. In 1970, she made a screen comeback in Airport (1970), a role originally offered to Claudette Colbert, who declined it, earning Hayes her second Oscar, this time for Best Supporting Actress. Helen Hayes retired from the stage in 1971 but enjoyed enormous fame and popularity over the next fifteen years with many roles in motion pictures and television productions, retiring in 1985 after starring in the TV film Murder with Mirrors (1985). She was the second person and first woman who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award. [NYPOST] Author Salman Rushdie was off a ventilator and in good spirits Saturday, a day after being stabbed as he went to give a lecture in upstate Chautauqua, his agent confirmed.
Rushdie, 75, remained at death's door but was said to be "talking (and joking)", fellow author Aatish Taseer tweeted.
Rushdie’s agent Andrew Wylie confirmed the update, a day after saying author was likely to lose an eye.
The author also suffered a damaged liver and severed nerves in his arm, the agent said.
Hadi Matar, 24, pleaded not guilty "Wudn't me." to attempted murder and assault charges in connection with the shocking public attack at a nonprofit education and retreat center.
Prosecutors said Matar had preplanned the assault, getting an advance pass to Rushdie’s lecture with a fake ID.
#BREAKING: Hadi Mattar was in direct contact with members of #Iran’s IRGC on social media ahead of the attack on Salman Rushdie, European & Middle Eastern intelligence officials tell VICE. IRGC was also in contact via social media in Bolton plot.https://t.co/cToic0at17

European and 'middle East' intelligence were really quick on that. IRGC coordinates with assets on social media?
Also, if you read the vice article, it's full of contradictions and words like 'likely', and 'the official said at some point he must have', so and so forth.
My point is, why now? Iran suddenly coming after folks in America. Bolton, Rushdie... other million dollar targets. For Soleimani? Maybe. American agencies grown soft and flaccid with all the diversity, compromised even? Probably.
I welcome any definitive action on Iran, pummel 'em into sand and shit. Just... how could nobody avert such a thing when a third world craphole can? They didn't care that Rushdie has a permanent hit out on him? Were they kicking doors, rounding up asshole Ayatollah fans or have they put all resources into sniffing out those 'MVE'? Is there a threat to Americans from Iranian agencies or not? This Bolton stuff was just rubbish then? Like a Damoclesian sword hanging on all Trump aides? Leaves one with more questions than answers.
Who's to say the LSD administration hasn't been making deals with Tehran. 'Stab my enemy in the back and I'll stab yours.' Rowling's been threatened as well, by a two bit paki punk. Hell, we could kill him for the US, like that [snaps fingers]. But it'd be better if the WH pressures those tranche lovers in 'slamabad to, right? And don't they hate Shias? They'd jail him and make a diplomatic example of him, gladly. What is being done? Zilch. Is it because it's open season on a certain kind of people in America, no fuss, no worries?
Oh, well. I guess it'll be easier to p-p-p-punish Iran for aiding the Russians now. Oop!

I am upset that no one rushed the stage to protect a helpless old man from a violent miscreant.
I think what was aloud to happen reflects badly on the people attending the Chautauqua.
It is kind of like the Uvalde situation where the police failed to react in a timely manner.
What a difference it makes when a single person responds quickly like at the Greenwood Park Mall when Elisjsha Dicken quickly engaged and neutralized the shooter.
I don't carry a weapon, but my dream is that I would have strangled the Iranian agent with my bare hands within seconds.

‘Talking and joking after brutal attack’ Reminds me of ‘Honey, I forgot to duck.’ I don’t care for Rushdie but the man has balls, and ‘the enemy of my enemy’ can’t be all bad. Hope he continues to improve and piss off ‘1.5 billion’ Mohammedans.

If they fight War on Terror II the way they found War on Terror I we have nothing to worry about. They'll spread a helluva lot of money and eventually execute a humiliating withdrawal.

[IsraelTimes] A senior Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... holy man known for his fiery ...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob... speeches against the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (IS) has been killed at his madrassa in the Afghan capital in a suicide kaboom claimed by the jihadist group.
Rahimullah Haqqani, who had recently spoken publicly in favor of girls being allowed to attend school, had survived at least two previous liquidation attempts — including one in Pakistain in October 2020.
"He is the only one martyred," Kabul police front man Khalid Zadran tells AFP, adding that at least four others were maimed in the blast.
Hours later, IS claims the attack on its telegram channels, saying the bomber had detonated his explosive vest inside the office of the holy man.
Haqqani was one of the most "prominent advocates for the Taliban and one of the biggest of them who incited to fight" IS, jihadist monitoring group SITE says, translating a statement from IS.

[Garowe] In support of counterterrorism in Somalia, the United States military continued their unsolicited support to the federal republic of Somalia, waging yet another Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... in the Horn of Africa nation, just a week after a similar target against al-Shabaab ...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all of which have enough problems without them... Last week, the US Africa Command announced an airstrike against the al-Shabaab which left four turbans dead, in what came just days after Washington pledged to help the country effectively fight the turbans who control large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia.
State media reported a Sunday airstrike in the Hiraan region of Somalia, a region that has been persistently under the al-Shabaab attacks. Previously, the federal government of Somalia has reported dozens of deaths in the region mainly engineered by al-Shabaab Death Eaters.
According to the media, the airstrike had initially left two turbans dead and several hideouts destroyed. However, it's easy to be generous with someone else's money... state media later confirmed that over 13 turbans were killed in Sunday's 2 pm local time airstrike which targeted the Death Eaters.
"Today around 2 PM local time, two Alshabab bad boyz were potted and their hideouts were destroyed in US airstrike to support the Somali National Army’s counterterrorism operations in Hiiraan region," state media noted in a tweet without many details.
"The corpse count of Alshabab Death Eaters who were killed in Sunday’s airstrike in Hiran region has reached 13 terrorists, officials have confirmed to State Media, " the Somali National TV further reported, in one of the greatest crackdowns against the turbans this year.
The US recently deployed over 500 elite soldiers to the country over a year after their exit, and their presence has been ushered in with a series of airstrikes against the Death Eaters. Former US President Donald Trump ...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party... had withdrawn US troops from Somalia.
But after assessment, President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S., father of Hunter, close friend of an imaginary negro named Corn Pop. He blames Trump for losing Afghanistan.... had to redeploy them after State Department noted that the al-Shabaab was slowly taking over the country. The turbans have a huge presence in the rural central and southern parts of the Horn of Africa nation.

American Immigration Poverty displays it's brilliant policy.
Somalis are the second largest ethnic group from the Horn of Africa, after Ethiopians. According to US Census Bureau estimates for 2008-2012, the largest concentration of Somalia-born people in the United States is in the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington area (17,320) of Minnesota.
For Minnesotans overall, about 12 percent live below the federal poverty line of $30,750 for a family of four. About 54 percent of Somalis are below that line. She added 65 percent of Somali children live in poverty.
[ALLAFRICA] In a statement, the group condemned the arrests stating that Sudanese security forces fired tear gas at protesters and at their lawyer's office, and also beat and dragged those they arrested. Some 16 protesters were arrested in Omdurman and a further 19 in Khartoum, the group said. The lawyers said many were also injured due to the "excessive force" applied by the security forces.
Thursday's March of Millions took place across a number of cities and states across Sudan and was organized by the Resistance® Committees who reject Sudan's ruling junta and call for an immediate civilian-led government.
I seem to recall the Resistance Committees also rejected the last attempt at a civilian government, not to mention the military governments that preceded it.
In Khartoum, the procession began near the city's airport. Other cities which saw large street protests included El Manaqil and Wad Madani in El Gezira.
[ShabelleMedia] An explosion was reported on the outskirts of Sabiid area in the Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia on Sunday morning amid an anti-al-Shabaab ...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... operation.
The blast, which resulted from a remote-controlled landmine targeted a Fekon cycle of violence with a soldier and a civilian.
A local source told Shabelle Media Network by phone that the civilian was killed in the IED blast, while the soldier was injured and rushed to the hospital.
In the aftermath of the earth-shattering kaboom, Somali government forces arrived at the scene and started searches for suspects, according to the local residents.
There was no claim of responsibility for the bombing in the Lower Shabelle region.
[ShabelleMedia] The reports reaching the news desk of Shabelle Media from Hiran region indicate that al-Shabaab ...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... fighters and Ma’awisley militia festivities near Jalalaqsi.
The heavy fighting took place in Halfoley after the al-Shabaab base came under attack by the militia. Both sides suffered casualties, but details of the number remained unclear.
The Ma’awisley group claimed victory in the battle and announced that they had taken over the control of key areas from al-Shabaab, the al-Qaeda-linked Death Eater group.
The local security officials are yet to comment on the festivities between the forces of Evil and al-Shabaab, however, the situation was reported to be calm on Sunday.
[NYPOST] Being doxxed — having private information exposed, from your real name to your home address — on social media is scary enough. But for outspoken dissidents, having their details revealed to the authoritarian government they are criticizing can be deadly. And having it done by a worker at a social-media platform is a jaw-dropping betrayal.

The Iraqi Intelligence agency announced thwarting an attempt to target the Arbaeen pilgrims to Karbala, north of Babel.
The agency said in a statement that as the Arabaeen anniversary approaches, it started implementing new plans to secure the vicinity of Karbala, noting that its units have found a hideout containing boom belts and devices in Jurf al-Nasr (Jurf al-Sakhr previously).
Arbaeen is a Shia religious observance that occurs forty days after the Day of Ashura. It commemorates the martyrdom of Hussein bin Ali, the grandson of Muhammad, who was martyred on the 10th day of the month of Muharram.

[HODHODYEMENNEWS] At least nine Zionist settlers were maimed in a heroic operation carried out by a Paleostinian on Sunday morning , in the Old City of occupied al-Quds (Jerusalem), in retaliation to the continuous crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Paleostinians.
Paleostinian media reported that a Paleostinian youth shot at a bus carrying Zionist settlers near the al-Buraq Wall, the western wall of al-Aqsa Mosque in the town, wounding nine of them.
The Paleostinian resistance factions affirmed that this heroic and brave operation is a response to the attacks of the occupation forces and settlers and their daily crimes against the Paleostinian people and their Islamic and Christian holy sites, and their continuous incursions into al-Aqsa Mosque.
They affirmed that Jerusalem has been and will remain the eternal capital of Paleostine, and that the resistance will continue until liberation and defeat of the occupation.
[NYPOST] Five Brooklyn residents — a pregnant woman and a family of four — were among the eight victims of a Paleostinian terrorist who opened fire on a bus in Jerusalem on Sunday, according to reports and officials.
The pregnant woman, who is from Borough Park, suffered abdominal injuries and is hospitalized at death's door, according to Israeli hospitals.
The shooting occurred as the bus was sitting in a parking lot near the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest site.
US ambassador to Israel Thomas Nides confirmed that Americans were among the wounded.
“Deeply saddened to confirm that Americans were injured in this attack,” Nides said in the Twitter post. “I’ve spoken with the families and will keep them in my prayers.”
The family of four is from Williamsburg and had arrived in Israel on Wednesday. They were en route to a site known as David’s Tomb in the eastern part of the city, according to Yeshiva World News.
Another victim of the attack is hospitalized at death's door, although it’s not clear if that person is among the maimed Brooklynites. He is a man who suffered gunshot wounds to the head and neck, hospital officials said.
The suspected shooter — who has surrendered to police — is an Israeli citizen born in 1996, CNN reported, citing a security source. The New York Times reported he is a Palestinian resident of Silwan, a neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
A rep for Hamas commended the “heroic operation” against the “arrogance of the occupation’s soldiers and extremist settlers,” according to the Washington Post, but the group did not claim responsibility for it.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she was stunned by the shooting.
“I’m horrified by the terror attack in Jerusalem, and by the news that a family of New Yorkers has been impacted,” she tweeted.
“My team is making contact with @StateDept to assist however possible. We condemn terror and stand with the Israeli people as they seek peace.”
The attack came a week after Israeli aircraft carried out an offensive in the Gaza Strip targeting the militant group Islamic Jihad, igniting three days of intense cross-border fighting.
Islamic Jihad in turn fired hundreds of rockets during the flare-up, which killed two of its commanders and other militants. Israel said the attack was aimed at preventing threats from the group that it would respond to the arrest of one of its officials in the occupied West Bank.
Forty-nine Palestinians, including 17 children and 14 militants, were killed and several hundred injured in the fighting, which ended with an Egyptian-brokered cease-fire.
No Israeli was killed or seriously injured in the Gaza conflict.

[NPASYRIA] Clashes erupted late on Saturday between Syrian government forces and Ottoman Turkish-backed armed Syrian opposition factions in the town of Tadef in the countryside of al-Bab east of Aleppo.
The Ottoman Turkish-backed Levant Front faction carried out an infiltration attempt through a supply route for the government forces, between the village of Abu Jabbar and Tadef, an exclusive source told North Press.
Violent festivities erupted between the two parties, resulting in causalities among the government forces including an officer, the source added.
Recently, Tadef front has witnessed violent mostly peacefulfestivities between the opposition factions and the government forces, the source noted.
Since 2017, the city of al-Bab in the eastern countryside of Aleppo has been under the control of the opposition factions.
The SNA-held areas undergo security chaos, including explosions, persistent fighting between the factions and liquidations in light of the factions’ failure to maintain security there.

[NPASYRIA] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Media Center announced, on Sunday, that they had carried out a special security operation in the town of Tel Brak, 42 km from Hasakah, northeast Syria, targeting a cell working for Ottoman Turkish intelligence.
On July 31, the SDF launched the "Operation Oath" to pursue agents and spies of networks affiliated with the Ottoman Turkish intelligence and arrest their members.
The SDF Media center stated that the cell, "consisting of three individuals, affiliated with the Ottoman Turkish intelligence MIT, were hiding in a hotbed in Abu Arzala neighborhood, Tel Brak."
"During the raid operation, one of the cell members, called Aziz Muhammad al-Muhammad, refused the call for safe surrender, and he resisted our forces which led to his death," according to the SDF Media Center.
The two other individuals (Mahmoud Muhammad al-Muhammad and Ali Muhammad al-Muhammad) were arrested.
"The cell is involved in espionage acts about the AANES employees, military headquarters, and military sites and tunnels. The cell has caused the martyrdom of many of our comrades and fighter," the center added.
The operation has been launched in response to recent Ottoman Turkish drone attacks on areas in northeastern Syria, which targeted a number of prominent SDF leaders.
In a statement published on August 10, the SDF said that two of their fighters and one civilian bit the dust in a Ottoman Turkish drone attack on a car near a village southwest of the city of Qamishli.
On August 9, four members of the Self-Defense Forces (compulsory recruitment), affiliated with the SDF, bit the dust and three others were maimed in a Ottoman Turkish drone assault.
On July 22, Salwa Youssef, commander in the Counter-Terrorism Units (YAT), Jwana Hisso, leader in the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) and YAT fighter Ruha Bashar, bit the dust in a Ottoman Turkish drone attack in the eastern countryside of Qamishli.

[IsraelTimes] State broadcaster says three more hurt and damage caused after aircraft launch missiles from over Lebanon Hezbollahstan ...In 2020 Hezbollah blew up a considerable portion of Beirut and many of its inhabitants when its ammonium nitrate facility exploded. They blamed it on... somebody else. It wasn't them though. Trust them on that. And it ain't never coming to trial...
Israeli fighter jets launched a series of Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s on areas near the Syrian capital Damascus and the coastal city of Tartus on Sunday night, killing three soldiers and wounding three others, Syria’s official state media reported.
Israel does not acknowledge specific strikes in the enemy state, and had no comment on Sunday’s reports.
Heavy explosions were heard over the coastal city and along the Lebanese coast, according to local media reports.
The state-run broadcaster SANA, citing a military source, said some of the missiles — launched from over Lebanon at the Damascus countryside and from over the sea at Tartus — were intercepted.
The Syrian military claims to shoot down incoming missiles after nearly every alleged Israeli strike, assertions Israeli military officials and civilian defense analysts largely dismiss as empty boasts.
The Syrian military source also said damage was caused to the sites that were hit, without elaborating on the extent or the nature of the targets.
Footage circulating on social media apparently showed a burning site in the Tartus area. SANA confirmed a fire had erupted at a site that was targeted. It did not specify the ranks and identities of those reportedly killed and maimed.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based watchdog, claimed the Israeli strike targeted a Syrian army air defense base in the area of Abu Afsa, south of Tartus. The opposition monitor, which relies on a network of informants inside Syria and has been criticized for having unclear funding sources, added that Iran-backed fighters are usually at the base.
