According to acquaintances of Abdul Basir, he had been devoted to teaching for 40 years and was apprehended by the Taliban while returning from the school to the Deh-Salah market.

Talibs tie up 2 Panjshir boys in Kabul
Prominent Human Rights Activist Arrested by Taliban in Kabul

[8am] Local sources report that Taliban
...Arabic for students...
intelligence forces have detained a human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
activist for the second time in Kabul city.

According to the sources, the individual in question is named Shams al-Rahman Rahiq, and the Taliban arrested him on Monday, May 29, along with Ata al-Rahman, his uncle’s son, at the Gozargah area in Kabul city. They transferred him to an undisclosed location.

Although the motive behind Rahiq’s arrest is not yet known, sources quoting his relatives say that he has been detained due to his human rights activities.

Sources state that the Taliban had previously arrested Shams al-Rahman about a month ago and held him in prison for a while, but he was released again with the intervention of local elders.

It is worth mentioning that approximately a year ago, the Taliban forcibly removed Rahiq’s father from his home in Paktia and subjected him to physical assault.

Shams al-Rahman Rahiq is a resident of the Abdullahkhel valley in the Dara district of Panjshir province and had been living in Kabul city.
From Panjshir? No wonder the Taliban are annoyed with him.
The Taliban has not commented on this matter so far.

It is said that he has also been an employee of the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), but the organization has not yet expressed its opinion on the issue.

It should be noted that since their takeover, the Taliban have detained and imprisoned several civil activists and human rights defenders in various provinces of the country.

Former Parliament Member Ajmal Rahmani’s Bodyguard Arrested by the Taliban in Kabul

[8am] According to local sources, the Taliban have arrested a bodyguard of Ajmal Rahmani, a former member of the previous government parliament, in Kabul.

The individual, named Abdulwakil Merzaie, was detained by the Taliban on Sunday, May 28, in the Parwan 3 area of Kabul and has been transferred to an undisclosed location.

Abdulwakil served as the personal bodyguard of Ajmal Rahmani, but after the fall of the previous government, he worked as a blacksmith in Kabul.

He is originally from the village of Piyawasht in Rokha district, Panjshir, and has been residing in Kabul.

The Taliban have not provided any information regarding this matter.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, on April 15, the Taliban also arrested Mujib Zia, a civil activist and media advisor of the Rahmani Foundation, at Kabul Airport while he was traveling to Iran.

In recent days, this group has detained at least four army officers and one former government general in different parts of Kabul, and they have been transferred to undisclosed locations.

The Taliban have not been accountable to any human rights organizations regarding their actions.

Daily Evacuation Brief June 4, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • RISING CONCERNS OVER THE SPREAD OF CONGO FEVER – Fatalities have continued to climb at a slow but steady rate as the disease seems to be spreading in select areas of the country. Most recently, a physician died after reportedly contracting the disease from an infected teenager. The World Health Organization is tracking the outbreak but its hands are tied with the prohibition against women aid workers in the country. There has not been an accurate or definitive account of how many Afghans may have contracted the deadly disease and health workers are scrambling to prepare their communities to deal with the problem. With the warm weather, ticks are out and about and the disease is thought to be spreading directly through bites but also through the ingestion of viraemic animal tissue (flesh that has had the disease in the bloodstream). A listing of the signs and symptoms of the disease can be accessed HERE.

  • NOTED HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST REARRESTED AND IN TALIBAN CUSTODY – Shams al-Rahman Rahiq was reportedly arrested for the second time last Monday and it is believed he is being held by GDI agents in an undisclosed facility. Relatives and friends say he was under surveillance for at least a portion of the time after his first arrest in April. He was thought to have continued his organizing work for protests and that may be why he was pulled in.

  • EARTHQUAKE REPORTED NORTH OF KABUL – A moderate earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck yesterday afternoon but no damage or casualties have been reported. There was initially some concern as the quake’s epicenter was at a shallow depth but it appears to have passed without incident.

180 dead from Sudan fighting buried unidentified as battles rage
[AlAhram] Blasts rocked the Sudanese capital Saturday, as fighting between warring generals entered its eighth week, with volunteers forced to bury 180 bodies recovered from combat zones without identification.

Witnesses told AFP of "bombs falling and civilians being injured" in southern Khartoum, while others in the city's north reported "artillery fire", days after a US- and Saudi-brokered ceasefire collapsed.

Since fighting between Sudan's warring generals erupted on April 15, volunteers have buried 102 unidentified bodies in the capital's al-Shegilab cemetery and 78 more in cemeteries in Darfur, the Sudanese Red Islamic Thingy said in a statement.

Both regular army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy-turned-rival, paramilitary commander Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, have issued repeated pledges to protect civilians and secure humanitarian corridors.

But civilians reported escalated fighting after the army quit ceasefire talks on Wednesday, including a single army bombardment that killed 18 civilians in a Khartoum market, according to a committee of human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
lawyers.

Both sides have accused the other of violating the ceasefire, as well as attacking civilians and infrastructure.

Washington slapped sanctions on the warring parties Thursday, holding them both responsible for provoking "appalling" bloodshed.

Somali, AU troops clear supply routes to ease aid movements
[Garowe] Somali and the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops have stepped up joint patrols to clear improvised bombs (IEDs) and open main supply routes to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the populations.

The African Union (AU) mission said on Friday that the joint operations by the Burundian troops serving under ATMIS and the Somali security forces have dismantled al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
strongholds and illegal checkpoints in central and southern Somalia.

"ATMIS Burundi troops have successfully conducted a reconnaissance patrol along the main supply route connecting Jowhar Air Field to Jowhar town. The operation was to ensure safe movement of goods and services on the busy road," ATMIS said in a statement issued in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

"The joint force dismantled illegal checkpoints set up by the (al-Shabaab) bandidos hard boyz and also eliminated al-Shabaab cells planning attacks against government forces, ATMIS personnel, and civilians in the area," it said.

The allied forces have also conducted a security patrol to secure the main supply route in Bulo Marer, a town in the southwestern Lower Shabelle region of Somalia, to ensure the free movement of goods and services.

The joint troops have been opening main supply routes blocked by al-Shabaab hard boyz and creating a free and secure environment for the Somali people to thrive.

Aid agencies have said the poor state of main supply routes in south-central and southern Somalia provided conditions for al-Shabaab to continue laying ambushes and use bombs against ATMIS convoys and Somali security forces.

Amritsar On High-Alert Following Bomb Threat
[OneIndia] Amritsar has been put on high-alert following a call to the police stating multiple bombs have been planted near the Golden Temple.

Following the call, the police sprung into action and launched a massive search operation. The police however did not find any explosives.

Naunihal Singh, the Commisioner of Police, Amritsar, said that they had launched a search operation but did not find anything. He also said that it appeared to be a hoax call. He also added that the police had arrested one person and an FIR has been registered against him.

The Commissioner also added that the police are actively conducting an investigation to ascertain the motive behind the threat.

Sources said that the arrested person was in the attitire of a Nihang.
Nihang are traditional Sikh warriors — they wear blue robes, carry swords and spears, and have steel quoits on their turbans — apparently both as decoration and as a weapon.
They also indicated that he had used a stolen mobile phone to make the call. The police traced him thorough the location from his mobile phone.

Punjab has been on high-alert for quite sometime since the emergence of the Khalistan radicals. Recently three low-intensity blasts had taken place nearly the Golden Temple between May 6 and 11.

It should also be noted that security arrangements are at an all time high in Amritsar due to the impending 39th anniversary of Operation Bluster. There has also been a provocative rhetoric by organizations such as the proscribed Sikhs For Justice. A call for a shutdown has also been made by the Dal Khalsa.

From the farmer protests a few years ago, we see the Nihang in their everyday form, as opposed to showing off at festivals:

They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. Police on Saturday, a consignment of over 5 kg of suspected narcotics dropped by a Pak drone was seized from a village in Amritsar.

On hearing a mild buzzing sound of a drone and the dropping of a consignment at the outskirts of Rai village, a joint search operation was carried out in the area, said the BSF.

The troops recovered a big consignment containing five packets of suspected narcotics from fields. An iron ring was also found attached to the consignment.

Iraq
‘Iraqi Resistance Association’ Castigates Saudi Arabia for Regional Interference, Domestic Repression
[Shafaq News] Amid endeavors for rapprochement between Tehran and Riyadh, the Iran-backed "Iraqi Resistance® Coordination" issued a searing critique against the Kingdom of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
on Saturday.

The Coordination lambasted what it called the "Saudi regime" for its alleged interventions in regional countries and its oppressive practices, including the execution of political adversaries.

"The Islamic Ummah is afflicted by oppressive tyrannical regimes, with the Saudi entity being a blatant example," the Coordination said in a statement.

"Its level of criminality and arbitrariness has reached a point that cannot be ignored, considering the bloodshed caused by its dominance and tyranny," the statement added.

The Coordination outlined the Saudi Arabia's alleged offenses, including "crimes committed in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
and Bahrain, its conspiracies against Iraq, Paleostine, Syria, and Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
." It also drew attention to the situation in the Arabian Peninsula, where it claimed people, especially those from the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia, faced "executions and disappearances in prisons."

"They strive to subjugate the people to their desired objectives," the statement continued, suggesting that "the Family of Saud will not cease creating crises and committing crimes unless the Zionist and American intelligence and military presence in the region is terminated."

Addressing the recent execution campaign in Saudi Arabia, the Coordination said, "the Saudi regime has confirmed its bloody course... and adopted a despotic policy to muzzle dissent, suppress opposition voices, and prevent them from claiming their rights."

The Association urged a firm stance to counteract the Saudi regime's alleged transgressions and appealed for resistance as the only viable recourse to thwart the domination and conspiracies against the Islamic Ummah.

"There were no casualties, but this time the bombing was very intense and caused fear and anxiety for the residents in the area," Halkaft Doski, a resident of Deraluk, told Rudaw’s Nasr Ali.

According to Doski, Ottoman Turkish planes bombed the Metina and Gara mountains between 10:00 and 11:30 am.

Videos submitted to Rudaw show smoke rising from mountainsides overlooking villages.

Security Forces Neutralize Ten Terrorists in Synchronized Operations Across Iraq

A total of ten Jihadists were eliminated in a series of coordinated operations by the Air Force's "Sky Hawks" and the Counter-Terrorism Service over the past 24 hours, Iraq's Security Media Cell (SMC) reported on Saturday.

Under the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and overseen by the Joint Operations Command, these actions have intensified the clampdown on terrorist elements, an official blurb said.

The blurb said Iraqi security forces have continued to apply pressure on these bad boys, executing a well-calibrated plan that has inflicted heavy casualties and devastated their strongholds.

"On Friday, the 'Sky Hawks' executed a successful aerial strike on the Hamrin Mountains, neutralizing four terrorists. Concurrently, the Counter-Terrorism Service managed to eliminate three hard boyz in another operation," it said.

"Complementing these efforts, the Iraqi Air Force conducted another successful aerial raid in the Diyala sector of the Hemrin Mountains, which led to the destruction of several hideouts and the neutralization of three more terrorists," it concluded.

On 22nd week, anti-overhaul protests enjoy bump in turnout amid anger at police
[IsraelTimes] Hundreds block main Tel Aviv highway after rally draws at least 95,000; thousands protest elsewhere; Ben Gvir backs cops for Friday crackdown, protesters retort: ’We’re not afraid’

Weekly protests against the government’s intention to overhaul the justice system enjoyed slightly increased turnout Saturday evening over last week, with the rallies boosted by renewed anger at police over a forceful crackdown on a Friday night protest near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private residence in Caesarea, and at key overhaul architect Simcha Rothman for snatching a megaphone from a protester following him during a visit to the United States.

Various Hebrew media outlets estimated that between 95,000 and 140,000 people attended the main rally on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv, alongside thousands of others in some 150 locations around the country, kicking off the 22nd week of regular protests against the now-paused government plan. Last week’s Tel Aviv rally drew an estimated 80,000 people.

IDF: Troops killed at border post didn’t return fire after Egyptian officer attacked
[IsraelTimes] Initial probe into killing of 3 soldiers indicates policeman entered Israel through emergency gate, acted alone; Gallant speaks with Egyptian counterpart, stresses bilateral ties

The Israeli military on Saturday evening said it believed an Egyptian policeman who killed three soldiers in southern Israel earlier in the day infiltrated through the border using an emergency gate, and that two soldiers killed in an initial attack did not fire back.
Could it be that the policeman was wreaking vengeance on the IDF unit that intercepted the drug shipment? Because nothing else makes sense to me after he went through the emergency gate — to which surely he ought not have had a key.
The three Israeli soldiers killed by the Egyptian policeman were named by the Israel Defense Forces as Staff Sgt. Ori Yitzhak Iluz, Staff Sgt. Ohad Dahan and Sgt. Lia Ben Nun.

Palestinian nabbed for posing as Arab Israeli to work as armed guard at Holon mall
Could be a criminal thing, could be future Sudden Jihad Syndrome.
[IsraelTimes] Police arrest West Bank resident while he’s working, after Nazareth man complained an impersonator took out a gun license in his name

A Paleostinian from the West Bank has been arrested for posing as an Arab Israeli man to work as an armed guard at a mall in Holon.

Police said they opened an investigation after receiving a complaint from a Nazareth resident who alleged an imposter took out a gun license in his name for a security company.

Officers then went to the mall in Holon, a suburb of Tel Aviv, where they arrested the suspect as he was working Thursday.

A police statement described him as a 36-year-old resident of Dura, near Hebron in the southern West Bank, but did not name him.

"This case evokes difficult feelings, from deep embarrassment to real concern over the way authorized officials handled the suspect," Tel Aviv Magistrate Court Judge Ala Masarwa ruled at a remand hearing, noting he is accused of obtaining a gun license and employment under false pretenses.

"He posed as an Israeli with a criminal past and who has also racked up convictions for property crime, violence and fraud," the judge added.
*Boggle*
He also ordered the suspect remain in jug until Monday.

Palestinian suspected of Huwara car-ramming that injured soldier turns himself in
We had the story of the attack here.
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian man who allegedly carried out a car-ramming attack in the northern West Bank town of Huwara on May 21, injuring a soldier, turned himself in two days later, the military says.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, Naim Daras Hassan Daras, 34, a resident of Ramallah, turned himself in to Israeli security forces on May 23.

In the alleged attack, Daras "accelerated and rammed" into a soldier in Huwara, wounding him, before fleeing the scene. The soldier was hospitalized in moderate condition.

The IDF says Daras is being questioned by the Shin Bet over the alleged attack.

Government shelling causes fire to break out in wheat crop in Aleppo
[NPASYRIA] Artillery shelling by Syrian government forces of the outskirts of the village of Kafr Nouran west of Aleppo caused on Friday fires to break out in a space of about 100 acres of wheat.

A local source told North Press, "The fire started after four artillery shells fell in the middle of a field cultivated with wheat fired from a camp off Kafr Nouran, where the government forces are stationed."

The source added that fire brigades did not manage to arrive in the site since it is close to contact lines. However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
peasants, with simple capabilities, managed to control and extinguish the fire.

Drug trafficker killed in Syria's Daraa
[NPASYRIA] Unknown button men killed, on Friday night, a person accused of drug trafficking in Daraa, a governorate in Syria’s south.

A local source told North Press that "Ahmad Muhammad Eid al-Akrad" was rubbed out by unknown button men while he was in the market of Daraa al-Balad.

Al-Akrad is accused of working in drug trafficking in the region, according to the source.

It also noted that "unidentified button men carried out the liquidation, after which they stole his cycle of violence and set off towards Daraa al-Mahatta, where security branches of the government forces are deployed."

Two weeks ago, unknown individuals distributed leaflets, threatening drug pushers and promoters in the Daraa al-Balad to be held accountable if they did not stop their work.

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with daily liquidations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, as well as the spread of thefts.

Iranian-backed leader survives assassination in Syria's Deir Ez-Zor
[NPASYRIA] On Friday, a leader in the Iranian-backed militias survived an liquidation attempt, after his car was attacked with machineguns in the Abu Kamal desert in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source from the Iranian-backed Liwa Hashemiyoun
...the Afghan Shiite militia stood up by Iran with Hazera volunteers in 2014 to fight ISIS and otherwise support the Bashir al Assad government...
said that Ali al-Sultan, who is in charge of logistics and armament in the militia, was attacked on the outskirts of the Abu Kamal desert by machineguns.

The leader left his car, hiding among the civilian houses, before the attackers targeted the car again with an RPG shell, which completely destroyed his car.

Al-Sultan, who is Iraqi, has a bad reputation in the region, and he is accused of imposing royalties on civilians, according to the source.

Iranian-backed militia announced on May 31 launching a combing campaign of the eastern and southern countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, to pursue Islamic State

HTS foreign fighter assassinated in Syria's Idlib
[NPASYRIA] On Friday, unknown individuals assassinated an Uzbek fighter

Front).

Local sources from the region told North Press that unknown individuals ambushed the Uzbek fighter Abu Mujahid al-Muhajir in Armanaz northwest of Idlib, where they shot him, abruptly ejecting him from the gene pool.

The area witnessed security alert by the General Security Service of the HTS after the incident.

The sources believed that the liquidation was part of the liquidations carried out by HTS of the imported muscle who have left its ranks.

On May 1, HTS transferred four foreign detainees, one of whom is of French nationality, from Prison 107 in Idlib city to the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

in northern Idlib, in preparation for handing them over to Ottoman Turkish intelligence.

This operation is the fifth of its kind in 2023. HTS’ prisons contain dozens of foreign holy warriors whom Ankara wishes to receive, without knowing the purpose behind it.

Yazidi activist Nadia Murad announced the rescue of six Yazidi women who had been held captive by the ISIS since 2014
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Yazidi activist Nadia Murad announced on Saturday the rescue of six Yazidi women who had been held captive by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) since 2014.

Murad said in a statement, "The women were still children and teenagers when they first taken captive in 2014. Trafficked out from Iraq into Syria, they were rescued on Saturday morning."

The women, who were flown back to Erbil to reunite with their families, were provided "all the psychological support they need," Murad said.

Murad hailed the role of the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nechervan Barzani, in bringing the women back, but she did not mention any effort by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Murad, a sexual violence survivor, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 for her efforts to end sexual violence as a weapon of war.
Rudaw adds:
In August 2014, ISIS turbans seized the Yazidi heartland of Shingal in northern Iraq and committed genocide against the minority community. More than 400,000 Yazidis fled. The men and older women who were not able to flee were killed. More than 5,000 were buried in mass graves. An estimated 6,417 women and kiddies were enslaved.

Murad also thanked Ottoman Turkish authorities who "played an important role" in bringing the captive women back to safety. She did not elaborate on the role The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
played.

Murad, who lived with her family in the Shingal area, was one of the women taken captive. After she escaped, she publicly told her story and brought the horrors of the genocide to the world’s attention. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 and is a United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
goodwill ambassador, campaigning for the survivors of human trafficking.

Around 2,700 of the women and kiddies seized by ISIS are still missing. Many of them were brought by their captives when they went to Syria after ISIS’ defeat in Iraq. Some women have been found in northeast Syria’s al-Hol camp, among the families of ISIS fighters and supporters.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani established an office to rescue the missing women and kiddies. Murad credited Barzani with assisting with Saturday’s rescue that was the result of weeks of investigation.
