Daily Evacuation Brief June 3, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • AFGHAN EMBASSY IN INDIA DRAMA CONTINUES – The situation at the Afghanistan Embassy in New Delhi has yet to be resolved and an internal power struggle has continued between legacy diplomats from the old regime and an envoy that has claimed he represents the Taliban. Ambassador Farid Mamundzay was appointed to the position by former President Ashraf Ghani and continued serving Afghan citizens in India after the Taliban came to power. Qadir Shah, formerly a mid-level diplomat on Mamundzay’s staff but who was said to be writing the Taliban and requesting to be appointed in Mamundzay’s stead has given the Indian Ministry of External Affairs his letters of accreditation from the Taliban. For its part, the Indian government has said the internal issues of the embassy need to be solved by the embassy and that they would consider the matter an internal one.

  • IRAN CLAIMS IT IS MAKING HEADWAY IN NEGOTIATIONS OVER WATER RIGHTS WITH THE TALIBAN – While details on what was achieved in the recent round of talks between the two countries have not been shared, Iran’s Foreign Minister said in a statement to reporters that progress was made and the negotiations were proceeding fairly. The talks are being followed closely after a flare-up at the border resulted in several deaths. On a regional level, other countries like Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are monitoring the talks as Afghanistan gets closer to completing the Qosh Tepa canal project that is expected to divert a significant portion of water from the Amu Darya River which forms the border between Afghanistan and the two Northern neighbors. Both countries have stated concerns that the completion of the Qosh Tepa will be a point of contention in the future.

  • EUROPEAN UNION AND CENTRAL ASIA SUMMIT ON AFGHANISTAN CONCLUDES – The summit was the second meeting between the two bodies and a similar result was issued from the meeting whereby all parties again voiced concerns about the potential for exported terrorism from Afghanistan, the ban on women working in humanitarian sectors, the ban on females in education, and the lack of inclusive representation in the government.

  • SENIOR TALIBAN COMMANDER VISITS BORDER AREA IN NIMROZ – The 215th Corps Commander, Alhaji Mullah Sharafuddin Taqi, was in Nimroz on Wednesday and Thursday to visit Taliban security forces that have been deployed along the border after the clashes with Iranian troops took place. Taqi visited two of the border checkpoints and held sessions with local commanders and civil leaders to discuss concerns about future potential conflicts. No incidents were reported during his visit.

NEXT 24 HOURS
POSSIBLE SECOND SECURITY OPERATION IN NANGARHAR PLANNED – A source in Kabul said that information gleaned from four cellphones recovered from the site of a raid that resulted in the death of an ISIS-K leader and his associate has convinced Taliban intelligence officials that two additional ISIS-K safe houses are located in the Province and that at least one of them was occupied by members of the terrorist group. The source could not provide locations of the possible impending actions but said that GDI agents were staging near the previous raid site in preparation for more raids. At-risk Afghans in the Province should be prepared to see clash(s) in the near future.

More drone strikes hit smugglers in Libya
[AlAhram] Forces of Libya's Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based government launched dronezaps against suspected smuggling sites in the country's west Friday as they pursued a campaign begun over a week ago, local media reported.

"Strikes targeted Zuwara" some 120 kilometres (75 miles) west of the capital near the border with Tunisia, broadcaster Libya al-Ahrar reported.

It aired footage of thick columns of smoke rising from two sites in the city, a departure point for migrants colonists trying to reach Europa

illegally.

On May 25, the defence ministry of the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity said it had begun a major military operation against "gangs of fuel, narcotics and human traffickers" in western coastal areas.

On Tuesday, a statement from the ministry announced that the first phase of the campaign had been successful.

It said "seven migrant smuggling boats, six drug trafficking depots... and nine tanker trucks used for fuel smuggling" had been destroyed.

The operation has continued despite claims of political score-settling in a divided country with two rival authorities, the UN-backed GNU headed by Abdulhamid Dbeibah and a rival administration in the east.

Oil-rich Libya was plunged into years of chaos after a NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
-backed uprising toppled and killed strongman Moamer Qadaffy in 2011.

Armed groups have exploited the turmoil to fund their activities through fuel smuggling and the illegal trafficking of migrants colonists.

The current operation has so far been limited to dronezaps. The first targets were sites in Zawiya, 45 kilometres west of Tripoli.

Media reports said the towns of al-Maya and Ajelat, both west of the capital, were also targeted.

Dbeibah, who is also defence minister, hailed the accuracy of the dronezaps in footage broadcast on Thursday of a meeting he held with the military.

"We will hit with an iron fist everywhere we can," Dbeibah wrote on his Facebook page.

He said that while the raids so far had been carried out by drones, the campaign's second phase would aim to "arrest all wanted persons", suggesting the future use of ground forces.

Burkina: 2 civilians and 50 ''terrorists'' killed in an attack in the north
[AFRICANEWS] Two civilians and 50 "terrorists" were killed on Wednesday during a "complex ambush" against the military escort of a food convoy in northern Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
, the army general staff said in a statement on Thursday.

"A unit of the 12th Commando Infantry Regiment (RIC), supported by the 2nd Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR), energetically responded to a complex ambush on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, in the vicinity of Tibou", a locality located in the province of Loroum, bordering Mali, indicates the Burkinabè army.

"The units, which were escorting a food convoy for the benefit of the people of Titao, were attacked by a group of holy warriors whose number is estimated at around a hundred," the statement continued.

"The promptness and vigor of the response created a rout in the ranks of the holy warriors who suffered very heavy losses. At least 50 of them were neutralized", assures the Burkinabè staff who specifies that "two civilians" who were part of the convoy were killed.

Burkina has been caught since 2015 in a spiral of jihadist violence that appeared in Mali and Niger a few years earlier and which has spread beyond their borders.

The violence over the past seven years has killed more than 10,000 civilians and soldiers, according to NGOs, and more than two million internally displaced persons.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélem de Tambèla ruled out any "negotiation" with jihadist groups. He also indicated that the elections could not be held without the return of security in the country.

Burkina, which has experienced two coups in 2022, has been led since last September by **Captain Ibrahim Traoré.**The military must return power to civilians in July 2024, after a presidential election.

Sharia Court Of Appeal Orders Arrest Of Islamic Cleric, Abdul’aziz Over Alleged Blasphemy In Northeast Nigeria
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The Upper Sharia Court of Appeal sitting in Bauchi has ordered the arrest of the Imam of Dutsen-Tanshi Jumma’at Mosque, Idris Abdul’aziz, over alleged blasphemy
...the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence to a deity, or sacred objects, or toward something considered sacred or inviolable. Some religions consider it to be a crime. In Pakistain you can commit blasphemy by looking cross-eyed at a Koran...
The Islamic holy man is standing trial over allegations of incitement of public disturbance of peace and blasphemy.

Abdul’aziz was accused of making blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad and some notable Dariqa holy mans.

The Guardian reports that the presiding judge of the Upper Sharia Court of Appeal, Hussaini Turaki, ruled that Abdul’aziz, who was released on bail, be forced to appear before him during the next sitting of the court on June 5.

Turaki argued that the failure of the holy man to honour the court summons served on him amounted to contempt.

But counsel for Abdul’aziz, Barrister Sadiq Abubakar Ilelah, told the court that his client’s absence was connected with an undisclosed ailment, adding that they filed a motion asking the court to give them another chance for their client to appear in the next trial.

Meanwhile,
...back at the buffalo wallow, Yellow Wolf clutched at his chest and fell from his horse...
the prosecuting counsel, Aliyu bn Idris, said the case was transferred from Magistrate Court 1 to Upper Shariah Court of Appeal 1 to start the case afresh.

The judge, Turaki thereafter adjourned the case to Monday, June 5, 2023.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Three Azerbaijani women returned home from Iraq
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Azerbaijani citizens convicted in Iraq, having served their sentence, were able to return to their homeland. Azerbaijani authorities are preparing the return of two more women whose prison term has come to an end. At least 120 women from Azerbaijan still remain in Iraq, Tofig Turkel, a columnist for the Turan agency, said.
Good to know.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Azerbaijan periodically organizes the repatriation of its citizens who are kept in camps on the territory of Syria and Iraq. So, on May 18, eight children and three women returned to their homeland . According to the country's Foreign Ministry, over 400 Azerbaijani women and children have been returned from Syria and Iraq in recent years.

The Azerbaijani government ensured the return to their homeland of three women who were sentenced to imprisonment in Iraq. The women brought to Baku have served their sentences, the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported on June 1.

The department noted that the return of two more Azerbaijani citizens from the Middle East, who had served their sentence, is being prepared. The names of women awaiting repatriation and already returned to their homeland are not disclosed by the authorities.

The message of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry emphasizes that so far 288 children of Azerbaijani women held in places of detention have been returned from Iraq.

We are talking about the repatriation of women whose husbands fought in Iraq in detachments of various armed groups, including the banned terrorist organization ISIS*, Turan agency columnist Tofig Turkel believes.

"These women went (to the Middle East) with their husbands. After the defeat of terrorist groups and the death of their husbands, the women ended up in prison along with their children. In recent years, the Azerbaijani government has been taking measures to repatriate its citizens from Iraq and Syria. Judging by the information from social networks and media, there are at least 120 Azerbaijani citizens in Iraq. Children, as a rule, were handed over to grandparents, uncles and aunts, and other relatives," Turkel told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Turkel does not have exact information about the number of Azerbaijani citizens remaining in Syria, but notes that many Azerbaijanis were returned from this country earlier. "Perhaps, someone else can stay there. As their locations are established, repatriation measures are being taken," he added.

India-Pakistan
Two terrorists killed in North Wazoo shootout
[GEO.TV] Two forces of Evil were bumped off by security forces in an exchange of fire that took place in the general area of Dossali in North Wazoo District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing said on Friday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), once the fire exchange took place the troops "effectively engaged the terrorists’ location and sealed all possible escape routes". It added that during the shootout "two forces of Evil were sent to hell".

The ISPR also said that weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the terrorists. It added that the miscreants were "actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and killing of innocent citizens".

The sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any forces of Evil found in the area.

"Locals of the area appreciated the operation and expressed their full support to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the area," the army's media wing added.

The shootout comes two days after a soldier was martyred as security forces thwarted terrorists' attempt to disrupt the ongoing polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain...
campaign in the North Waziristan District.

According to the ISPR, forces of Evil fired on the members of a polio team, employed in the general area Spinwam of North Waziristan.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the security forces deployed with the team "effectively engaged terrorists' location ensuring the safety of all members of the team and extricated them unharmed".

The martyred soldier was identified as 25-year-old Sepoy Saqib Ur Rehman of District Mardan.

The ISPR also said that sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any forces of Evil found in the area. "Security forces of Pakistain are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve."

Army Undertakes Operation Trinetra To Flush Out Terrorists From Jammu And Kashmir
[OneIndia] The Army Headquarters has held talks with both the Northern Army Command and 16 Corps commanders, while underscoring the importance of laid down standard operating procedures in counter-insurgency operations.

This comes after the Indian Army lost 10 troopers in terror attacks in the Rajouri-Poonch region in the past two months.

The Indian Army and the security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
are conducting a full scale drill known as 'Operation Trinetra,' in a bid to flush out gunnies from Pakistain in the Pir Panjal region. This operation comes following the terror attack on an Army vehicle at the Bhatta Durian region in Poonch on April 20. On May 5 there was an ambush at Kesari Hill in the Rajouri sector in the run up to the G20 meeting on May 22-24.

The Indian Army lost five troopers each in both those encounters, including four who belonged to the elite 9 Paratroopers Battalion. Following the incidents, Army Chief, General Manoj Pande visited the site and took stock of the situation.

Both the operations were carried out by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba. The criminal mastermind in the attack was Habibullah Malik aka Sajid Jutt's module based in Kotli. He resides Pakistain occupied Kashmir. Jutt has been involved in recruitment of gunnies and weapons drop with the help of drones. He is a designated terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act by the Union Home Ministry. He is married to a Kashmiri Moslem, who has moved to Pakistain. His son however lives in the Valley.

Since 2021, 24 troopers have been killed in the above mentioned area. The Army has now launched a massive operation to avenge these killings. The Army is aided by the security agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir police. The main aim is also to reduce the number of civilian casualties in the area.

ISIS reveals outcome of its operations in Syria, Iraq, Africa, and Asia, recording 20 operations and 105 victims

On Friday, Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) grabbed credit for 20 operations it carried out in Syria, Iraq and areas in Africa and Asia, recording 105 victims.

The extreme group, via a video graphic publicized by al-Naba online ISIS-linked newspaper, announced launching four operations in areas held by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), it did not revealed outcomes of the operations in Syria.

The newspaper added that ISIS faceless myrmidons carried out two operations against the Iraqi Army in Kirkuk and Diyala Governorate, resulting in the killing of three Iraqi soldiers.

In West Africa, ISIS carried out seven operations, killing and wounding 16 people, in Central Africa the group claimed three operations, recording 21 dead and maimed, and in Khorasan it claimed one operation, in which one individual was killed.

The extreme group claimed two operations in a coastal area in Africa, where 52 people were killed and maimed.

In Mozambique, ISIS claimed one operation, killing one soldier of the Mozambican army.

Lately, ISIS’ activities and risk have record a significant increase despite the operations carried out by the US-led Global Coalition and its partner forces to defeat the group.
