The Taliban’s Clash in Parwan Province Kills Three Armed Men
[KhaamaPress] Three button men were killed in a clash with Taliban

security forces in Parwan province’s Jabal al-Saraj district, according to Taliban security officials.

According to the Taliban, three button men were killed and one detained in the festivities, according to Kamran Habibi, a front man for the Taliban’s police chief in Marwan.

Kamran Habibi has not provided any other details of the incident, and the identity of the button men are still to be determined.

Opposition groups, based primarily in northern Afghanistan, have remained silent about the clash.

The Taliban have been accused of killing former government soldiers, officials and dissidents during their nine months in power.

Local media sources reported on Sunday that the sound of a kaboom was heard in the 10th Security District of Kabul, on the way towards Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai

International Airport.

According to Afghan sources, the blast took place on the road of Kabul’s Hamid Karzai Airport near the Esteghlal Hotel where the anniversary of the liquidation of former Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was held.

Afghan media reported that the earth-shattering kaboom killed and injured several people.

Ethiopian authorities arrest at least 15 employees of 2 independent media outlets
[ALGHADEER] Authorities in Ethiopia’s northern Amhara region have arrested four employees of a US-based online media outlet, while the whereabouts of two others was unclear, the outlet said on Sunday, in the latest round of arrests involving media.

The arrests would add to those of five journalists in another Amhara media outlet on Thursday over what their colleague said was the outlet’s reporting of the activity of a local volunteer militia, known as Fano.

“We have four confirmed employees who are in jail and two unknown. Out of the four, one (is a) full-time editor, one in the process of hiring for an editor position, one full-time reporter, one human resource and finance lead,” Nisir International Broadcasting management, said in a message to Reuters on Sunday.

Nisir said three of the employees were arrested on Thursday, and two were in custody in the regional capital Bahir Dar. The third employee and a fourth one who was arrested on Friday are in the town of Gayint, some 160 km (100 miles) from Bahir Dar, Nisir said.

Gizachew Muluneh, spokesperson for the Amhara regional administration and government spokesperson Legesse Tulu did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Nisir calls itself an impartial and independent online media agency focusing on Ethiopian news, paying close attention to Amhara region. It did not give a reason for the arrests.

Amhara is the second-most populous region in Ethiopia and a key constituency for Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. But recently some Amhara leaders who previously backed his government have publicly criticised his handling of a war with the neighbouring region of Tigray.

Amhara forces and the Fano militia backed Abiy’s federal troops against rebellious forces in northern Tigray when fighting erupted there in 2020.

Critics say Abiy, who won a Nobel Peace Prize after taking office as a reformer in 2018, is cracking down on dissent around Ethiopia. He says he is guaranteeing stability and law and order in the multi-ethnic nation.

In another case, Solomon Shumiye, an Addis Ababa-based talk show host, was arrested on Friday, taken to court with three others and ordered detained for 14 days, his sister Tigist Shumiye told Reuters.

Solomon has been critical of the government and the war in Tigray.

Government spokesperson Legesse and Markos Tadesse, spokesperson for the Addis Ababa Police Commission, did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment on the arrest.

The arrests add to those of a prominent general critical of Abiy, and some ethnic Amhara activists in the last week.

The state-appointed Ethiopian Human Rights Commission said in a statement on Sunday “the recent arrests don’t follow basic Human Rights principles and are inappropriate”.

Mozambique insurgency: Why 24 countries have sent troops
[BBC] At least 24 countries have sent soldiers to support Mozambique in its fight against insurgents in northern Cabo Delgado province.

The discovery of 7,000 "ghost soldiers" in the ranks of a poorly paid and badly trained army underline why Mozambique needs help.

The Carta de Mocambique daily newspaper discovered many of the salaries of fake soldiers were paid to senior defence officials, and that there are a growing number of children of former officers and politicians who receive salaries without ever having been in military training, let alone setting foot in a military unit.

More than 2,000 well trained Rwandan troops were sufficient to largely take control of the two coastal districts, Palma and Mocimboa da Praia, near giant gas fields. Despite their successes, Mozambique's civil war rumbles on.

The big struggles now are political - about money, the causes of the war, who can fight, and if the gas project can resume.

Cabo Delgado is Mozambique's resource-curse province, with gas, rubies, graphite, gold and other natural resources.

Iraq
Iraq says six killed in Islamic State group attack
[Rudaw] Three teenagers and three coppers were rubbed out in northern Iraq Monday as they put out a crop fire, an attack that officials blamed on Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group jihadists.

The six were shot full of holes in the Taza Khurmatu district south of the city of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
said Hussein Adel, the local adminstration head, adding that a seventh person, a civilian, was also missing.

After the killings, a police car arriving in the area came under fire, and a bomb was also went kaboom!.

"IS set fire to farmland," Adel said. "When police and civilians came to put out the fire, they were attacked by IS elements, who killed three coppers and three teenagers."

Iraq announced victory against IS in late 2017 after three years of ferocious fighting backed by paramilitary forces and the US-led air coalition.

But IS cells still carry out hit-and-run attacks, particularly in vast desert regions of northern and western Iraq near the mostly non-existent border with Syria.

In recent years, they have torched swathes of fields in Iraq and Syria, boasting about the destruction in their propaganda.

In 2019, more than 200 fires burned down some 5,000 hectares (12,355 acres) of crops in northern Iraq, with some of the blazes blamed on jihadists, and others on land disputes.

After three years of biting drought that has slashed cultivatable areas by half, Iraq is closely monitoring its wheat harvest this year.

The IS group has " maintained the ability to launch attacks at a steady rate in Iraq, including hit-and-run operations, ambushes and roadside kabooms", a UN report said in January.

"Exploiting the mostly non-existent border" between Iraq and Syria, the jihadist group still has "between 6,000 and 10,000 fighters across both countries, where it is forming cells and training operatives to launch attacks".

Cells "remain active in desert and rural territories, and the group uses urban areas to expand its clandestine networks", it added.

In April, two soldiers were killed by a jacket wallah during a counter-terrorism operation in an area north of the capital Baghdad.

Kurdish villages in Makhmour remain empty in fear of ISIS activities
[Rudaw] A large number of Kurdish inhabited villages situated in Makhmour have remained abandoned for the past five years in fear of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (ISIS) sleeper cell activities.

Villages in the open terrains of Makhmour's Qaraj region and djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
province are deserted.

"There are 38 villages located in the Qaraj area. They are empty. One single Arab inhabited [village] is more populated than all of the Kurdish inhabited villages combined. They are almost entirely empty," villager Lawko Ali told Rudaw’s Hiwa Husaamadin on Saturday.

"There are a handful of Kurdish villages remaining populated. Those who have opted to stay are busy with farming and raising livestock. Due to a security vacuum in this region, Kurdish villagers have found it difficult to stay," Abdullah Tahir, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party office in Makhmour said.

In its propaganda magazine on Thursday, ISIS claimed to have conducted 12 attacks in Iraq from May 11 to May 19, killing and injuring 26 people.

Palestinian stone-thrower shot by IDF soldiers in West Bank
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian man who allegedly hurled stones at Israeli vehicles near the West Bank settlement of Neria was shot by Israeli soldiers.

According to the Rescuers Without Borders emergency service, the suspect was taken to Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek hospital in moderate condition.
"Target practice time!"
At least one car was damaged by a stone allegedly hurled by Paleostinians in the area, according to local authorities.

The Israel Defense Forces says troops are searching for a second suspect who expeditiously departed at a goodly pace.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
SDF Says No Change Regarding International Forces Deployment In NE Syria
[NPASYRIA] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Monday that there is no change in the deployment of the international forces in northeast Syria areas.

This came after the statements of Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
about launching a new military operation in northern Syria.

Erdogan said on Monday that his country would launch a new military operation in northern Syrian in response to the attacks that threaten the Ottoman Turkish national security.

SDF said on its official website that "There is no strategic change in the deployment of the international guarantors in the regions of northeast Syria."

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
is displaying its power and heating up the situation in order to undermine the region’s stability and revive ISIS sleeper cells, the statement added.

The SDF said that its forces "are evaluating the level of the actual and potential Ottoman Turkish threats to northeast Syria, and exchanging the information with the international grantors."
