Air Strikes Hit Yemen's Aden as Rebel Attacks Kill Seven
The view on events from not-Iran:
[AnNahar] Saudi-led coalition air strikes hit rebel targets in and around Yemen's main southern city of Aden on Wednesday as festivities with forces allied with runaway President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi intensified.

Coalition warplanes targeted rebel positions west of the port city, in Ras Imran, where heavy festivities have been raging as the Houthis try to advance towards the city's strategic refinery, a military source said.

The rebels appear to be trying to seize petrol reserves stored at the refinery as the country suffers a huge shortage of fuel.

Rebel reinforcements, including tanks commanded by rebel troops, arrived Wednesday in Ras Amran from the province of restive Lahj
... a Yemeni governate located in the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It is the stomping grounds on the southern secessionist al-Harak movement
, witnesses said.

The festivities Wednesday killed three southern fighters and maimed 11 others, a medic at a local hospital said.

Earlier, coalition air strikes hit rebel positions in Crater, Khor Maksar and other districts of Aden, which has seen heavy festivities between pro- and anti-government fighters.

Residents told AFP the rebels "randomly" shelled residential areas in the city, killing at least three civilians.

The rebels also rubbed out four armed supporters of Hadi, medics and residents said.

In Daleh province, north of Aden, Hadi loyalists carried out several attacks that killed 16 rebels, according to pro-government militia sources.

It was not possible to independently verify the toll and the rebels rarely acknowledge their losses.

Huthi snuffies attacked a position of the 35th Armored Brigade, which remains loyal to the president, north of the central city of Taez, seizing tanks and killing three soldiers, a military official said.

The rebels have also seized tanks from another post and besieged the headquarters of the brigade on the northern outskirts of Taez, the official added.

Several brigades abandon Houthi militia

snuffies by degrading their military structure in order to pave the way for restoration of peaceful life as well as the legitimate government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, the Saudi-led coalition said on Wednesday.

"Our aim was to destroy Houthi militia stocks of ballistic missiles and other fire power, which we succeeded in doing. Besides that, their movements are completely under check to deny them any attempt for their asymmetric warfare techniques and instead of further advancement, the militia is on the backfoot, which will force them to surrender," said Brig. Gen. Ahmad Al-Assiri, a consultant in the office of the defense minister.

He added that the militias are in a worse condition after being abandoned by a number of brigades including the 123, 127 and 133.

"All signs indicate that the militias have lost concentration and in the wake of arms embargo, they are resorting to isolated operations in order to redeploy by moving some tanks toward Aden and other cities to capture Yemeni fighter jets," he said.

"The coalition troops have full information of such locations including Houthi hideouts and have conducted strikes to check their movements," he said.

About a meeting between Defense Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, the front man said, "Since Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and Egypt are allied partner in the operation, this is important to have a regular meeting between allies for better coordination for the success of the campaign."

Al-Assiri said once the objective of Arclight airstrikes are achieved, land operations will start to restore legitimacy.

He said relief work continues to proceed at a good rate with tangible relief measures on the ground to help people.

10 Colombian soldiers killed in guerrilla attack
[AA.TR] Ten soldiers we killed and 20 others injured early Wednesday in an attack in the southwest department of Cauca.

It was the single most deadly attack on the Colombian armed forces since the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia
FARC or FARC-EP, is either a Marxist-Leninist revolutionary guerrilla organization or a drug cartel based in Colombia. It claims to represent the rural poor in a struggle against Colombia's wealthier classes, and opposes United States influence in Colombia, neo-imperialism, monopolization of natural resources by multinational corporations, and the usual raft of complaints. It funds itself principally through ransom kidnappings, taxation of the drug trade, extortion, shakedowns, and donations. It has lately begun calling itself Bolivarian and is greatly admired by Venezuela's President-for-Life Chavez, who seemingly fantasizes about living in the woods and kidnapping people himself. He provides FARC with safe areas along the border.
, or FARC, declared a unilateral cease-fire Dec. 20.

The attack was carried out against the military garrison by members of FARC's mobile "Miller Perdomo" unit active in the area, according to reports being released from the affected area, on the outskirts of Timba, about 30 miles south of the industrial and commercial hub of Cali.

"I lament the death of the soldiers in Cauca. This is precisely the war which we wish to bring to an end," said Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos via his Twitter account. "With the military high command we will establish the circumstances around this event and I will travel today to the area," he continued.

Gen. Mario Valencia, commander of the Colombian army's third division, speaking at a presser in Cali said the soldiers were attacked with "explosives, grenades and firearms," and that it was not an ambush.

jihadists in Syria.

The suspect, named as Kenan Krso, was suspected of "several activities linked with terrorism," a front man for the public prosecutor's office told news hounds.

"The suspect stayed for a brief period in Syria," front man Boris Grubesic added.

"He met there members of the (ultra-conservative Islamist) Wahhabi movement, who are fighting within the ranks of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, and with whom he stayed in contact" after returning to Bosnia, Grubesic said.

The front man did not say whether the suspect himself took up arms.

Krso, 39, was already arrested in February while walking in downtown Sarajevo dressed in a T-shirt with the Islamic State insignia.

A month earlier he caused a scene at a Sarajevo mosque, accusing its moderate imam of telling "lies."

Bosnia last year passed a law imposing sentences of up to 20 years in jail for convicted jihadists and their recruiters.

Some 200 Bosnians are believed to have traveled to Middle Eastern battlegrounds, according to the intelligence services.

A radical Moslem holy man, Husein Bosnic, went on trial in January accused of inciting faceless myrmidons to travel to Syria and Iraq.

Last week, Bosnian prosecutors charged four men with planning to join Islamic State in Syria and with organizing travel to the conflict zone.

Bosnia's Moslems make up 40 percent of the country's 3.8 million inhabitants.

The vast majority practise a moderate form of Islam.

Hundreds of families under siege by Daesh in Ramadi
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Hundreds of families are under siege in the Iraqi city of Ramadi after Daesh seized control of the Albu Ghanim area on Wednesday, a security source said.

Iraqi forces and tribal fighters withdrew from Albu Ghanim area after fierce festivities with Daesh, Brigader Khalaf al-Tarmouz, the security adviser of Anbar province's council told The Anadolu Agency.

Al-Tarmouz said that Daesh is besieging hundreds of families and preventing them from leaving the area. There are fears that the terrorist group may commit massacres against the civilians.

Al-Tarmouz also stated that the al-Hashid al-Shaabi Shiite militia had withdrawn from the area three days ago.

He added that tribal fighters replaced al-Hashid al-Shaabi on the front lines, but they are not sufficiently armed.

Daesh is close to taking full control of the eastern part of Ramadi, according to al-Tarmouz.

#1  Iraq govt troops and some anti ISIS Sunni milia in Ramadi were probably redeployed to help out in Tikrit.

This was an opportunity for ISIS which has had Ramadi partially controlled or surrounded for some 18 months or so.

#2  Seems like the Shiites pulled out and left under-armed Sunni locals in their place. Meaning the latter let the IS in. Willingly or unwillingly is the question.

NPA stages triple attack in Compostela Valley
[Sun Star] New People's Army (NPA) militants simultaneously attacked and ransacked three areas in Monkayo, Compostela Valley.

Attacked were the mining compound of Monkayo Mayor Manuel Brillantes Jr. and the Philippine army detachment of the 25th Infantry Battalion. A security guard at the mining site and a militiaman acting as the mayor's private security were killed in the twin attacks.

Battalion commander Colonel Francis Sibal said the militants were under Front Committee 3 led by Ka Lope. He said the militants separated into three groups, with one attacking the mining compound, another harassing the army detachment, while a third was posted at a bridge where possible government reinforcement would pass by.

About 20 NPA guerrillas attacked the army base, resulting in a 20-minute clash. At around 11 p.m., about 30 militants also blocked a road along the Davao-Butuan road in Montevista, Compostela Valley.

BIFF names new chief
[Anadolu] A day after the death of its founder and leader, the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters have named a successor.

BIFF spokesman Abu Misry Mama said that Sheik Esmael Abubakar -- a.k.a. Kumander Bungos, the group's vice chairman for political affairs -- would succeed Ameril Umra Kato who died of a stroke on Tuesday. He said, "The group decided to have the 40-year-old Abubakar take over Kato's post."

Mama called Kato's death a big loss, adding that the group would not become weaker without its founder.

Sheik Abubakar is said to have studied in the Middle East, is an expert in Sharia law, and taken the title of sheik before serving as a brigade commander for the MILF, from which the BIFF split in 2008.

Islamic State withdraws from Yarmouk camp, Nusra remains
[Ynet] After expelling main rival, Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-linked Aknaf al Maqdis, hundreds of ISIS fighters pull-out back to Hajar al Aswad, residents say.

Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
fighters have largely withdrawn from a Paleostinian refugee camp on the outskirts of Damascus after expelling their main rival, several residents and a Paleostinian official said on Wednesday.

The pull-out from Yarmouk leaves al-Qaeda-linked Nusra as the main group inside the camp.

The sources said hundreds of fighters of the hardline Islamic State had returned to their stronghold in neighbouring Hajar al Aswad, from where they had launched their attack earlier this month.

"Most of them have withdrawn in mostly to-and-fro skirmishes that took place between them and their advesaries," resident Abu Ahmad Hawari said.

Alongside seeking to capture the camp, they sought to defeat their rival, the Hamas-linked Aknaf al Maqdis, an opposition group that was ideologically opposed to them.

Aknaf Beit al Maqdis, meanwhile, claimed they forced the Islamic State fighters' retreat from the camp.

Sami Hamzawi, a Paleostinian activist from the camp who currently lives outside Syria, said the Aknaf Beit al Maqdis group has captured several buildings and is currently advancing from areas it holds northeast of Yarmouk.

Islamic State's arrival in Yarmouk had given the jihadist group a significant foothold a few kilometers from Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
's seat of power.

The group was still fighting some of the remaining Aknaf al Maqdis fighters in the northern entrance of the camp at the junction of the main Paleostine and Yarmouk streets, two residents said.

The withdrawal leaves al-Qaeda offshoot al-Nusra
...the current nom de guerre of al-Qaeda in the Levant, which isn't to be confused with al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Levant...
as the biggest force in the camp, many of whose residents have fled since Islamic State launched its offensive, they added.

The Paleostine Liberation Organization envoy to Damascus said that Nusra was now the main group in the camp.

"They and Nusra are one. They are changing positions," Anwar Abdul Hadi told Rooters.

Nusra was accused by its rivals of facilitating the entry of Islamic State bandidos Lions of Islam into the camp. Although they are rivals elsewhere in Syria, both share a loathing for Aknaf al Maqdis.

But Nusra, unlike Islamic State, was not ready to push its rivalry to a military confrontation and did not engage in the latest round of fighting in Yarmouk, according to residents.

Iran is redeploying its soldiers around Syria's capital after 'heavy losses'
Iranian Revolutionary Guard troops fighting on behalf of the Bashar al-Assad regime have reportedly withdrawn from a number of battlefronts and redeployed to strategic points around the Syrian capital.

"The Iranian leadership has withdrawn [IRGC fighters] because there is no strategic advantage for the forces in many areas and they have suffered heavy losses," Italian Adnkronos news agency (AKI) reported Tuesday.

"The IRGC has now based itself firmly [around] Damascus," sources close to Hezbollah told AKI.

However, the sources denied that Tehran had withdrawn its forces from Syria and returned them to Iran.

"We believe there are around 6,000 fighters in all of Syria. They are all from the IRGC, and there are no Basij fighters. Also, Iranian officers are supervising them and Syrians do not interfere in their work. The matter is limited to coordination with the Syrian military forces."

The sources explained that the most significant coordination with Syrian forces took place between the IRGC and "the Air Force and the Artillery." This was done "to [provide] cover for the Iranian forces."

Rebels benefit from IRGC absence

As-Sharq al-Awsat first reported on the withdrawal of Iranian troops last week, citing opposition sources as saying there has been a "striking absence of IRGC forces supporting Assad's regime on the battlefield."

The Saudi-owned paper added that the pull-back "positively impacted the situation of the opposition, which has recently begun to regain initiative and opened new fronts.

The sources told Asharq Alawsat that their forces "had regained the ability to attack and [take their enemy by] surprise at more than one location in the north and south of the country."

In recent weeks Syrian rebels have captured the provincial capital of the Idlib province, seized strategic points near the Jordanian border and breached the regime's defensive line in northwestern Aleppo.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman told As-Sharq al-Awsat on Tuesday that "the momentum of the IRGC fighters in Syria has receded" but their presence in the country has not decreased.

"Syrian activists and fighters have been able to observe this change since the beginning of the direct nuclear talks on Iran's nuclear program."

He did add however that the situation was "still active at the moment," and therefore subject to change.

Damascus defense

The alleged redeployment of the Iranian troops to the Damascus environs comes as pro-regime forces have conducted new offensives amid growing rebel threats outside the capital.

AKI reported that the IRGC troops had "redeployed southwest of the capital in the Golan near the border with Israel; in the Qalamoun in areas northwest of Damascus near the border with Lebanon; and in areas of southern Syria, especially in military bases around Izraa and Sanamayn."

All the aforementioned areas serve as key defensive lines for Damascus. Hezbollah and pro-regime forces have reportedly been readying a new Spring campaign in the Qalamoun mountains, from where Islamist battalions could strike the Damascus-Homs highway.

Jane's Defense, one of the world's leading military publications, forecast on April 12 that "an offensive by Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic State, probably working independently and aimed at severing communications between Homs and Damascus, is likely in the coming weeks."

Further to the south, Hezbollah and Iran in February launched an offensive to secure a triangle of territory stretching from the southern outskirts of Damascus down to Quneitra in the southwest and Daraa in the southeast.

However, the campaign ground to a halt as the Free Syrian Army-affiliated Southern Front has notched a series of victories and last week launched its own campaign aimed for Sanamayn, a town 50 kilometers south of Damascus which hosts the 9th Armored Division and serves as one of the regime's last defensive lines for the capital.

Izraa, which lies on the highway from Daraa to Sanamayn, also hosts one of the regime's most fortified bases in southern Syria.

Yes, big difference. Islamist wants sharia, Muslim is happy to pray to Allah without sharia, living under secular law.

Lots of secular Muslims but they are right now losing the struggle against islamists. Whole country of turkey = secular and plenty of secularists there. Tunisia, once secular, but still plenty of secularists there. So yes, is very possible to be a Muslim without desire for sharia, and those secular Muslims are the only peaceful future for Islam.
