-Lurid Crime Tales-
SJS: Son Fatally Shoots Dad During Easter Service, Yells Killing Was 'Will Of Allah'
That's Sudden Jihad Syndrome, of course.
Witnesses say the 25-year-old man accused of walking into an Ohio church and fatally shooting his father after an Easter service Sunday was yelling about God and Allah after the killing.

Police say Reshad Riddle walked into the Hiawatha Church of God in Christ in Ashtabula and killed his father, 52-year-old Richard Riddle, with a single shot from a handgun Sunday afternoon.

Adams said Reshad Riddle then continued into the church, still holding the gun, and yelled that the killing was "the will of Allah. This is the will of God."

Reshad Riddle was quickly subdued by officers, who arrived just moments after the shooting. They say he has been mostly cooperative.

#1  If I were to commit murder I'd probably yell Allah just to ensure the leftists supported me through my trial and in the years afterwards. Perhaps i'd write a book of poetry or a childrens book as well to boot. They'd probably make me an associate professor or something when I was finally released. Gotta plan these things out and work the obvious angles.

Not saying that's what Reshad did, but he did stop at just killing one which is sort of underachieving by muslim standards.

#2  Good points, rjschwarz. Or he was a violent schizophrenic, which I didn't think of when I posted the article. My girlfriend's son walked upstairs one morning a few months ago, stabbed his grandmother (the female head of household, the usual object of murder in such cases) to death at the breakfast table, then sat quietly on the front porch waiting for the police to arrive because his mother had told him to do so. We are the foreign laughing stock of the world, second only to the United Nations.

Sudan's President Bashir says he will free all political prisoners
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
announced on Monday he will release all political prisoners, a move welcomed by the opposition as tensions ease with South Sudan.

"Today, we announce a decision to free all the political prisoners and renew our commitment to all political powers about dialogue," Bashir said in a speech opening a new session of parliament.

"We confirm we will continue our communication with all political and social powers without excluding anyone, including those who are armed, for a national dialogue which will bring a solution to all the issues," the president said.

Adviser to Libyan PM seized in Tripoli
[Pak Daily Times] An adviser to Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan was grabbed from his car by unknown assailants on the outskirts of Tripoli

"Nobody knows where he is. They left his car behind, probably they thought it could be traced," he said.

Ghatous had last spoken to his family by mobile phone from his car before he was taken. An investigation is under way. Since the end of the 2011 uprising that toppled Muammar Qadaffy

Three Mali Islamists Killed in Timbuktu 'Clean-Up' Raid
[An Nahar] At least three Islamists were killed in Timbuktu on Monday during a sweep by French and Malian soldiers after a deadly weekend battle in the fabled Saharan city, a military source said.

"During our clean-up operation, the Mali and French armies destroyed a public building in the center of town where the Orcs and similar vermin were hiding. We have found the bodies of three terrorists," the Malian military source told Agence La Belle France Presse.

Some gunfire was heard in the city on Monday but residents slowly emerged after having barricaded themselves in during fighting on Sunday.

Islamic faceless myrmidons -- who had controlled Timbuktu along with other key northern Mali cities for nearly 10 months until being driven out in January -- used the confusion created by a jacket wallah late on Saturday to infiltrate the city.

Having slipped into the ancient caravan town, the Islamic fascisti engaged French and Malian troops in a day-long battle on Sunday that left four rebels, a soldier and a civilian dead.

"For the moment it's calm in Timbuktu. We have the situation under control," a Malian officer had told AFP earlier Monday.

"Our team on the ground is sweeping (the city) and checking whether any jihadists are still active or not."

The Islamists began their assault with a suicide kaboom at an army checkpoint on the edge of Timbuktu that maimed a Malian soldier.

Militants then sneaked into the city and opened fire on two sides of the city center, targeting a Malian military base and a hotel serving as a temporary residence for the governor.

La Belle France sent in a unit of around 50 soldiers to help the Malian army and dispatched fighter jets to back them up.

A French soldier was maimed, the military said in Gay Paree. Four Malian soldiers were also maimed, officials there said.

An army source said a Nigerian civilian who had been taken hostage also died during a shoot-out between Malian troops and his captor -- an Islamist rebel seen wearing a bomb-belt who had holed up in a house in the north of the city.

It was unclear whether the pair had been killed in the firefight or the hostage-taker had detonated his belt.

Bangladesh
Savage attack by Shibir
[Bangla Daily Star] Within 24 hours of hurling bombs at police, Islami Chhatra Shibir
... the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh...
men yesterday unleashed a pre-planned attack on the law enforcers again, leaving four injured, one critically, and snatching a pistol, a walkie-talkie and a safety helmet.

Around 150 Shibir men arrived at Shalbagan in the city from different directions around 10:30am. About a dozen unsuspecting armed coppers were standing guard by the main road. In a flash, the Shibir men transformed themselves into a violent mob, unleashing a direct attack on the on-duty coppers, witnesses said.

Before the coppers could realise what was happening, the attackers hurled several powerful cocktails, spreading chaos and confusion in the area. The law enforcers, enveloped in thick smoke from the blasts, ran for cover firing rubber bullets at the attackers. But the attack was so intense that they could not hold ground for long, the witnesses added.

As the coppers tried to recover from the shock and confusion, the attackers showered them with brickbats, pinning down one of their colleagues on the main road Sub-inspector (SI) Jahangir Alam, the in-charge of Upashahar police camp and the team leader there.

The Shibir assailants took off Jahangir's helmet and wrestled him down on the road. A Shibir man kept hitting him on the head with his helmet, said the police and witnesses.

As Jahangir fell on the ground, some Shibir men held him down, while others brought in a supply of bricks and hit Jahangir ruthlessly on the head.

When the brutal assault was seemingly over, the attackers pelted the helpless policeman with more brickbats. Profusely bleeding from his head injuries, Jahangir was lying unconscious on the road.

One of the attackers, wearing a red shirt, slipped his hand into the holster of the unconscious policeman and made away with the pistol. Another, wearing a blue T-shirt, left the scene with Jahangir's helmet and walkie-talkie.

As Jahangir lay unconscious on the road, panicked residents, shopkeepers and pedestrians deserted the area. Suddenly, a young man and a woman rushed to the injured policeman, screaming for help.

The young man stopped a battery-operated three-wheeler, while the woman aided by a third person lifted the injured man onto the vehicle and took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with the crushed head of the police officer on her lap.

4 held over attempt to kill blogger
[Bangla Daily Star] Detectives placed in durance vile
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
four youths, including a Dhaka University student, in the capital yesterday for attempting to murder blogger Asif Mohiuddin.

They are Saad-al-Nahin, 24, an evening shift MBA student of Dhaka University; Kawsar Ahmed, 26, a hawker in Mirpur; Kamal Uddin, 23, a carpenter from Noakhali, and Kamal Hossain, 28, a security guard of Mutual Trust Bank, hailing from Barisal.

All four are members of a newly formed myrmidon organization Ansarullah Bengali Team that follows Yemen-based Al Qaeda leader Anwar Al-Awlaki, said Detective Branch of police.

DB earlier arrested another five of the same organization for killing blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider on February 15 at Mirpur in Dhaka.

Rajib was an activist of the Shahbagh demonstration that has been calling for death penalty to all war criminals and a ban on Jamaat-Shibir.

The four arrestees had been involved in the attempt to kill Asif at Uttara on Jaunuary 13, said Mashiur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner (west) of DB.

DB police arrested Nahin at DU campus, Kawsar and Kamal Uddin at Mirpur and Kamal Hossain at Jatrabari with several books on Jihad, martial arts clothing and fake BBA certificates.

Abdul Karim, an Arabic student of Dhaka University, and Rana criminal masterminded the killing of Rajib and the attack on Asif, said Nazrul Islam Mollah, deputy commissioner of DB.

A group of 14 to 15 people were supposed to kill Asif but of them, only two -- Nahin and Nobin Hossain, who is on the run, swooped on Asif, he added.

Jamaat-Shibir men torch, damage dozens of vehicles
[Bangla Daily Star] Jamaat-Shibir men yesterday went on a rampage in several districts, attacking police, torching and vandalising vehicles and blasting cocktails in protest at Sunday's arrest of Shibir President Delwar Hossain.

Meanwhile,
...back at the saloon, Butch got the bill for the damage caused by the fist fight, the mirror broken in the shootout, and drinks for everyone......
BNP activists in the capital torched three vehicles, including a microbus of ATN News, and went kaboom! seven cocktails shortly after a BNP rally in front of the party's Nayapaltan office, police said.

The main opposition party held the rally protesting Sunday night's gunshots "targeting" the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office.

The Jamaat-Shibir activists have been on the offensive since February 28, the day Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi
...Islamic orator and politician. He was a former Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Bangladesh from 1996 to 2008, and is one of the most prominent leaders of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami...
was handed down the death sentence for war crimes committed in 1971. Since then, around 100 people, including coppers, have been killed in festivities between law enforcers and Jamaat-Shibir and BNP men.

Amid all these, the BNP-led 18-Party alliance and Shibir enforce a countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal
... a peculiarly Bangla combination of a general strike and a riot, used by both major political groups in lieu of actual governance ...
today, protesting Friday's killings in Sirajganj and Chapainawabganj and demanding the immediate release of their party leaders, among other things.

In Rajshahi city, the Shibir men in a demonstration of sheer brutality yesterday thrashed a policeman's head with his helmet and bricks during a clash, leaving three more coppers maimed, reports our district correspondent.

Jahangir Alam, the critically injured police officer, was in charge of Upashahar police camp.

Dutch Hold 4, Search for Alleged Sarin Nerve Agent
Dutch police spent three days digging up a field after receiving a tip that sarin may have been buried there, but they found no trace of the deadly nerve agent, a prosecutor's office spokeswoman said Monday.

Spokeswoman Reijnders said police believe the four suspects may have been trying to sell the nerve agent for their own financial gain, although it remained unclear if they already had a buyer lined up.
In WoT until further information informs whether to relegate to P.3 for ordinary criminality.

India-Pakistan
Gunmen attack Pakistan power station, kill 7
Dozens of gunmen attacked an electricity plant in northwest Pakistan, killing seven people and disrupting power to 100,000 people overnight, officials said Tuesday

It was the latest audacious assault underscoring rising violence in the northwest as Pakistan prepares to hold general and provincial elections on May 11, which are due to mark the country's first democratic transition of power.

Around 50 militants targeted the plant in Badh Bher a suburb of Peshawar, a key electoral battleground and the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province which is rife with Al-Qaeda-linked militants and Taliban insurgents.

"They attacked the power station at around 2:30 am (2130 GMT). They killed two officials on the spot and abducted 10 others," Javed Khan, a senior police official in the area, told AFP.

"They threw five dead bodies of the kidnapped officials in the fields close to the power house on Monday morning. Five others are still missing."

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

A spokesman for the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO) said four of its staff and three policemen were killed.

"One PESCO employee and one policeman were killed on the spot. The militants then kidnapped seven PESCO employees and three policemen. Later, we found the bodies of three PESCO officials and two policemen," said Shaukat Afzal.

"Four power house employees and one policeman are still missing."

Indian national agency equates Maoists with terrorists
HYDERABAD - The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has equated ultra left wing extremists with ISI-sponsored terrorists and has listed several top Maoists among the most wanted persons.

The latest list of the most wanted persons has been uploaded on the NIA website. Maoist top gun Ganapati alias Muppala Lakshman Rao, who is the Secretary of the CPI (Maoists), figures in the list. He hails from Karimnagar district in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.

The NIA’s revised list contains the names of 56 terrorists, white collar criminals and extremists, their portraits, history of their crimes, pending cases and cash rewards on their heads. The list includes criminals and Maoists wanted in illegal arms and explosives procurement, white collar economic offences, cyber crimes.

Besides Ganapati, the NIA has also listed out top Naxalite leaders Basavaraj alias Sambala Keshav Rao, Devji , Somji and Prabhakar, all of them members of the CPI (Maoists) Central Committee.

The NIA has been entrusted with the case of Maoist Technical Committee Chief Sadanala Ramakrishna who was apprehended by the Kolkata Special Task Force in March 2012 along with eight other associates. They had also seized some components of rocket launchers, rocket propelled grenades and 51mm mortars and also spare parts of the latest SLRs.

The NIA probe revealed that all these spare parts were secretly produced in several workshops by Maoists in Pune, Rourkela, Indore, Bhopal and Bhubaneswar.

The designs for the rocket launchers were generated and supplied by Asim Kumar Harnath Bhattacharya, a Maoist activist from West Bengal. The components were manufactured in workshops between 2002 and 2006 and assembled at Chhattisgarh till 2009, NIA officials said.

The investigations had also revealed that the Maoists were also hand in glove with the extremist groups of North East in procuring weapons, assault rifles, pistols, explosives and also rocket mortar shells from China.

Meanwhile, revolutionary writer and Maoist sympathiser P Varavara Rao assailed the Union Home Ministry for branding Maoists as terrorists. “Maoists are political activists and not ISI-sponsored terrorists,” he said and sought clarification from the government on the NIA list of most wanted persons.

Iraq
Gunmen attack Iraq's Akkas gas field, four workers killed
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Gunmen attacked a contracting company working in the huge Akkas gas field in Iraq's western desert on Monday, killing three local workers and kidnapping at least two more, local government officials said.

Akkas, operated by Korea Gas Company in Anbar province near the Syrian border, is not yet producing gas. But the attack is another indication of increased Death Eater activity near the frontier as Syria's war spills into Iraq.

"A group of gunnies in vehicles attacked the headquarters of a local company hired by Kogas to do work in the field," said the mayor of al Qaim town, Farhan Ftaikhan. "They killed an engineer and two workers and kidnapped two more. Before they left they set fire to vehicles and offices."

No group grabbed credit for the late-night attack, but security officials say the local wing of al Qaeda, the Islamic State of Iraq, is regaining ground in the remote hills, caves and villages along the Syrian border.

Al Qaeda in Iraq is linked to Sunni Islamists fighting in neighboring Syria and has been invigorated by arms, fighters and support flowing to rebels battling against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
across the border.

Iraq, which holds the world's 10th largest gas reserves, has said the priority for the Akkas field would be domestic consumption once it starts production.

Iraq executes four including Qaeda's Baghdad chief
[Pak Daily Times] Iraq on Monday executed al Qaeda's former Storied Baghdad
...located along the Tigris River, founded in the 8th century, home of the Abbasid Caliphate...
chief and three other men convicted of terror-related offences, despite calls for a moratorium its use of the death penalty.

The executions brought to 22 the number of times Iraq has carried out the death penalty so far this year, compared with 129 in 2012, which was among the highest such figures in the world. "These snuffies were executed by hanging," the justice ministry said in a statement. "They committed criminal attacks against the Iraqi people, notably in Storied Baghdad and in (the western province of) Anbar." Among the group executed was Munaf Abdul Rahim al-Rawi, once described as the "governor of Storied Baghdad" for al Qaeda's front group in Iraq, who was tossed in the slammer
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
in March 2010.

He has been blamed for plotting two massive attacks in the Iraqi capital in August and October of 2009 that left 250 dead in total. Security forces have said Rawi's arrest yielded crucial intelligence that helped lead to the killings in April 2010 of Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, the political leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, and Abu Ayub al-Masri, the myrmidon group's self-styled "minister of war".

At Least 9 Killed in Suicide Blast in Iraq
[VOA News] At least nine people were killed Monday and several dozen maimed when a jacket wallah in Iraq blew up a tanker truck at an Iraqi government compound in the city of Tikrit, 150 kilometers north of Storied Baghdad.

Most of the victims are believed to be coppers and students. The kaboom set off a major blaze inside the complex, destroying parts of several buildings in the hometown of former leader Saddam Hussein.

No one has grabbed credit for the attack. One witness told an Iraqi opposition TV channel that the kaboom may have been part of an attempt to free prisoners at a cop shoppe in the compound.

Salafist Cleric al-Rafehi Escapes Apparent Assassination Bid in Tripoli
[An Nahar] Salafist holy man Sheikh Salem al-Rafehi on Monday escaped unharmed from an apparent liquidation attempt in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, state-run National News Agency reported.

"An unidentified attacker fired a gunshot towards Sheikh Salem al-Rafehi as he was leaving al-Taqwa Mosque, but the bullet missed him and he is in good health," LBCI television reported.

NNA said the bullet struck the mosque's door while LBCI said the Internal Security Forces' Intelligence Bureau extracted the gunshot and launched an investigation.

The TV network said a meeting was underway at MP Mohammed Kabbara's residence and that the conferees would call on supporters not to be "dragged into strife."

Syrian Alawites kidnapped in North Leb
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Unknown attackers kidnapped at least eight members of Syria's Alawite community on Monday after they crossed into Leb by bus, a security official said.

The assailants seized the group "shortly after their bus crossed the Syrian-Lebanese border via the Jisr Aqmar crossing into the Wadi Khaled area of north Leb," the official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

"Women and children were among the group," the official added, without giving any further details.

Two years into a spiralling war in neighboring Syria, sectarian tensions have flared up in Leb.

Last week, a wave of tit-for-tat kidnappings hit eastern Leb, pitting Shiites against Sunnis.

Fresh clashes erupt in Aleppo following deadliest month yet
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Fresh battles broke out in a flashpoint district of Aleppo on Monday, while violence raged on the road linking the Syrian city to its international airport, a watchdog said.

"Fierce festivities raged between troops and rebels in the east of Sheikh Maqsud district," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a day after a major rebel advance in the predominantly Kurdish neighborhood.

Regime tanks fired shells at other parts of the neighborhood, whose residents fled the area in large numbers for a second straight day.

Southeast of Aleppo, fresh festivities broke out near the city's international airport, said the Observatory, which relies on a network of activists, doctors and lawyers across Syria for its reports.

The airport has been closed since January.

Aleppo city has been scene of some of Syria's fiercest violence since battles first broke out in the northern city in July last year.

Much of the city has since been destroyed, and residents suffer constant power cuts and frequent water shortages.

To the west of the city, an air strike on rebel-held the town of Maaret al-Numan killed at least one child, said the Observatory, which reported several others injured.

Located in the northwestern province of Idlib, Maaret al-Numan has been under rebel control since October last year.

Elsewhere, a blast caused by an bomb hit the Rokn Eddin district in northern Damascus
...Capital of the last overtly fascist regime in the world...
, said the Observatory, which also reported renewed shelling by government troops on rebel-held districts in the central city of Homs.

Monday's violence comes a day after at least 181 people were killed across Syria, among them 57 rebels, 67 civilians and 57 loyalist troops, the Observatory reported.
