[Garowe] The Æthiopian National Defense Forces [ENDF] intensified the onslaught against al-Shabaab ...... the personification of Somali state failure... turbans in the southern part of the country, in the latest operation that is aimed at securing the country from the bad boys, who have been causing havoc in Somalia.
Æthiopian National Defense Forces operate in areas within Southwest and parts of Jubaland, where they have been trying to liberate huge sections of the country from the bad boys. They had first participated in operations within Mogadishu before AMISOM came into force.
Mohammed Mukhtar Abdi, a deputy District Commissioner in charge of the security, told news hounds that the troops managed to crush at least nine al-Shabaab bad boys, who were on the mission of raiding their bases besides attacking innocent civilians.
The bad boys, he said, had targeted Qansahdhere district in the Bay region in southwest state. This is the first time the Æthiopian troops are repelling an al-Shabaab attack within Somalia in 2021, after encountering a number of them last year.
"We are happy that the Æthiopian troops managed to repel an al-Shabaab attack in Qansahdhere, Bay region. The troops managed to kill nine bad boys. They have since secured the scene. I am urging the people to continue working with our security teams," he said.
Bay region has been a major hotspot for al-Shabaab turbans throughout the year but they have often been met by resistance from loyal troops. al-Shabaab has lost grip of strategic towns within Lower Shabelle and Middle Jubba, where they have enjoyed a monopoly for years.

[Garowe] al-Qaeda linked group, the al-Shabaab ...... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... on Sunday killed two men believed to be agents of the National Intelligence Security Agency [NISA], in what is believed to be a Dire Revenge mission whose details remain discreet, in one of the latest onslaughts against the government.
For years, the al-Shabaab has been targeted senior government officials, the security forces, and innocent civilians, but it's the members of security who have borne the brunt of the group's menace, which cuts across Somalia and beyond the borders.
Since 2007, the al-Shabaab snuffies have been fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed Somalia administration which has struggled to stamp authority in the country, and whose tenure expired recently, leading to internal political wrangles.
Those killed by the group were identified as Ali Ahmed Hassan and Ismail Ahmed Siyad, and are believed to have been working with NISA at the time of their death. NISA, which is led by former Aljazeera journalist Fahad Yasin, has recruited hundreds of spies within Somalia.
Reports from security forces indicate that the two were killed at Mogadishu's Bakara market Sunday. The al-Shabaab snuffies confirmed that the slain youths were NISA plainclothed agents, but the reports could not be established independently by Garowe Online.
The government is yet to respond to queries on the attachment of the slain officers, but it's not a secret that the al-Shabaab snuffies have been targeting NISA agents, who are responsible for their trial and prosecution in most military courts cases.

Sule, in his opening speech yesterday during an expanded Security Council meeting in Lafia, said: "One of the reasons for calling the meeting is because of the security concern around the country and indeed around the state. From what we have seen so far, there are renewed activities of these dislodged bandidos, we have these bandidos that are in Utu in Toto LGA that were recently dislodged.
"Unfortunately, a lot of them, being members of Dar ul Salem that have turned into Boko Haram, have now actually regrouped in places like Bakono, Kabusu, Pander, Danbata and Gidan Rike in Nasarawa, Wamba and Karu LGAs.
"Also with the activities of what is happening in the South-west, starting with Ondo State and then recently what has happened to Hausa/Fulani ... a peculiarly brutal tribe of Moslem herdsmen infesting Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and probably other places that are light on law and order and heavy on tribal identity... community in Oyo State, have worsened the situation and we continue to see an influx of unknown Fulani herdsmen especially in Wamba, Karu, Doma and Awe LGAs.
"We have also seen what is happening to our schoolchildren where schoolchildren were originally kidnapped in Borno State, were moved to Katsina, then to Zamfara, down to Niger. And I strongly believe that even though we see it returning to Zamfara, we shouldn't be taken off guards; we should be more proactive."
Sule added that he has contacted coppers in Abuja and mobile Special Forces had been sent to the state.
He said the Special Forces were divided into five units and sent to Gitata, Mararaba-Udege, Ogunba Tunga, Gudi Moro, Abaka in Farin Ruwa to monitor the situation in those areas.
The governor, while briefing State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja earlier this year had said the dislodged Boko Haram bandidos hard boys were regrouping in his state, particularly on the Benue/Nasarawa border.
But the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, later told journalists in Abuja that the governor had refuted the report while speaking with him over the issue.
Mohammed said the governor claimed he was quoted out of context.

Hidayat-ullah Malik had done reconnaissance of many security installations in Jammu and Delhi in 2018 and 2019 for carrying out terror attacks. [Stars & Stripes] A barrage of at least 10 rockets targeted an airbase housing American troops in western Iraq on Wednesday, the U.S.-led coalition said.
The rockets hit al Asad Air Base in Anbar province at about 7:20 a.m., Army spokesman Col. Wayne Marotto said in a Twitter post. Marotto did not say whether there were any casualties.
The Iraqi military released a statement saying the attack did not cause significant losses and that security forces had found the launch pad used for the missiles, The Associated Press reported.
The attack came two days before Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Iraq in a trip that will include Baghdad, southern Iraq and in the northern city of Irbil.
It also came after President Joe Biden ordered a U.S. airstrike in Syria, in response to a series of rocket attacks on American and coalition troops in Iraq. Washington has blamed these on Shiite militias attempting to pressure the U.S. into withdrawing from the country.

The Biden administration is already facing fierce pushback from congressional Republicans and conservative foreign policy groups who say it is rushing into a new deal with Iran that will do little to roll back its nuclear program and stop the regime from sponsoring terrorism across the Middle East. [BenarNews] A government task-force member and two suspected Eastern Indonesia Mujahideen faceless myrmidons including the son of Santoso, the group’s slain leader, died in a shootout in Central Sulawesi province, police said Tuesday.
The shootout between security forces and four members of MIT, a pro-Islamic state Indonesian murderous Moslem group occurred Monday in Poso Pesisir Utara district, provincial police chief Inspector Gen. Abdul Rakhman Baso said.
Rakhman identified the dead soldier as Dedi Irawan and the MIT members as runaways Khairul, 25, (alias Irul or Aslam) and Alvin, 27, (alias Mus’ab). He said Khairul was the son of Santoso, MIT’s leader and Indonesia’s most wanted murderous Moslem at the time, who was killed by security forces in 2016.
"Irul died after a bomb he was carrying went kaboom!, causing burns on parts of his body, while Alvin was shot in the head," Rakhman told news hounds in the scenic provincial capital, Palu.
Rakhman said Khairul was a local resident while Alvin came from neighboring Banten province.
Security forces had received intelligence that four MIT members, including the group’s leader, Ali Kalora, were planning to carry out an attack in the area, Rakhman said without providing details on the alleged plot.
Security personnel ambushed the suspects in the mountainous Andole area, leading to a shootout that lasted about 30 minutes, he said.
"According to information from the field, after two MIT members were killed on the spot, the two other MIT members fled," Rakhman said. "From the location, officers found 11 bullets, a number of shells, machetes, a GPS and others things."
Rakhman said soldiers and police were hunting for the remaining members of the MIT, whose numbers were reduced to nine following the shootout, according to the authorities.
DON’T HELP MIT
Brig. Gen. Farid Makruf, the local military commander, vowed to work with police to hunt down the remaining MIT members.
"We hope their number will not increase. We appeal to the public not to support them," Farid told BenarNews.
Last week, security forces clashed in Parigi Moutong regency with MIT members who managed to escape even though they suffered injuries, Farid said.
"We believed that two MIT members were maimed, because traces of blood were found in the location where the shootout took place," he said.
The security forces fired at the faceless myrmidons who had thrown an explosive at them, Farid said.
Police and military members have operated a joint task force, Operation Tinombala, whose mission since 2016 has been to hunt down MIT murderous Moslems.
Last November, MIT members crossed into Sigi, a neighboring regency, where they killed four Christian villagers. One of the victims was beheaded, according to the authorities.
Beginning on Jan. 1, authorities have taken a new approach to bringing an end to MIT, renaming Tinombala as Madago Raya (Kindness). With the new name comes a new focus on humanitarian and social activities, provincial police front man Didik Supranoto said.
"There will be training specifically designed for youths. The training programs will be based on interests of the youth, for example, if there are young people who want to develop skills in sports, we will provide them with training," he said.
He said the task force would also conduct social activities regularly, including providing assistance to communities affected by the conflict to keep them from joining with the murderous Moslems.

The commander of the Russian engineering forces, Colonel Roman Bismartni, said, "It is one of the most equipped places that our forces have found."
He continued, "In this cave there was a modern hospital fully equipped to receive outpatients and carry out complex operations, and allowed to accommodate up to 100 people."
