Five killed as Sudan crushes revolt by security agents
[AlAhram] Five people, including two soldiers, were killed as Sudanese troops crushed a rebellion launched by agents of the country's long-feared security agency against a restructuring plan, officials and medics said Wednesday.

On Tuesday, heavy gunfire broke out at some Khartoum bases of the Directorate of General Intelligence Service, formerly known as the National Intelligence and Security Service, after some of its agents rejected a retirement plan proposed by the country's new authorities.

NISS agents were at the forefront of a crackdown on protesters during a nationwide uprising that led to the ouster of longtime autocrat Omar al-Bashir
...Former President-for-Life of Sudan He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself head cheese. He fell out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Hee was overthrown by popular consent in 2019. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it...
last April.

Late on Tuesday, troops from the regular army and from the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) stormed the bases amid heavy gunfire.

"We decided to storm the bases to end this rebellion... We have now taken control of these bases," Sudan's chief of staff Lieutenant General Osman Mohammed al-Hassan told news hounds early on Wednesday.

"We lost two soldiers and four others, including two officers, have been maimed."

Doctors close to the protest movement that led to Bashir's ouster said that three civilians -- all from the same family -- had been killed by bullets near a NISS base in south Khartoum. A teenager was also maimed.

Khartoum international airport reopened on Wednesday after the authorities shut it when the shooting erupted. One of the NISS bases lies close to the airport.

Government front man Faisal Mohammed Saleh said the rebellion was launched by some NISS agents who rejected the amount of money alloted for taking retirement.

"We will not allow any coup against the Sudanese revolution," said the chairman of Sudan's ruling council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, speaking alongside the chief of staff.

"We will protect this transition term and anyone who tries to disturb the security and stability of citizens will be defeated."

Since August, Sudan has been ruled by the joint civilian-military body headed by Burhan, with day-to-day affairs in the hands of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and his government.

The ruling body is tasked with overseeing a transition to civilian rule as demanded by the protesters who ended Bashir's 30-year rule.

Burhan's deputy, RSF commander General Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, has blamed the former NISS chief for the rebellion.

"What happened today is a plan by Salah Ghosh and some other officers," Daglo told news hounds in the South Sudanese capital of Juba.

Ghosh, a key figure in Bashir's regime, stepped down days after the veteran leader was toppled. His whereabouts are unknown.

[AlAhram] Mostafa Kassem, who had been in detention since 2013, had gone on hunger strike

A jugged
You have the right to remain silent...
US-Egyptian citizen who died on Monday following an extended hunger strike was provided "medial and legal procedures to stop himself from harming himself" with a follow-up from the US embassy in Cairo, a statement by the interior ministry said on Tuesday.

The interior ministry said Mostafa Kassem received all aspects of medical care during his time in prison, adding that he was visited by family and representatives from the US embassy.

The ministry said Kassem insisted on his hunger strike "despite receiving advices at more than one occasion of the gravity of the [effects of the] strike on his medical condition," apparently a reference to his suffering from diabetes.

Kassem, 64, had been in jug since his arrest in Egypt in 2013.

He had been sentenced to 15 years in prison on convictions related to a 2013 pro-Moslem Brüderbund sit-in in Cairo.

He had gone on hunger strike to protest his convictions.

The interior ministry statement came a day after Egypt’s top prosecutor ordered an autopsy to determine his cause of death.

According to a statement by the prosecutor-general, Kassem died at a Cairo hospital after he had been transferred from a jail hospital the night before.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker confirmed Kassem's death to news hounds at a briefing in Washington on Monday, describing it as "needless, tragic and avoidable."

Box resembling home-made bomb placed outside Amsterdam kosher eatery
[IsraelTimes] A box resembling a home-made bomb is left outside a Dutch kosher restaurant where several anti-Semitic attacks have occurred.

The cardboard box, bearing the logo of the Heineken beer brand, is found outside the HaCarmel restaurant in southern Amsterdam. Masking tape fastens wires and a black electric trigger switch to its top.

The police bomb disposal unit rushes to the scene to examine the device, according to the Twitter account of the Federatief Joods Nederland group. Police say on social media that they are examining the box. They do not say whether explosives were found inside.

In 2017, a 29-year-old man waving a Paleostinian flag smashed the windows of HaCarmel with a wooden club, stealing an Israeli flag hanging there. Police officers stood by as he vandalized the place but arrested the suspect when he came out.

The perpetrator, Saleh Ali, was a Syrian asylum seeker. He was convicted of vandalism after 52 days in jail while awaiting his trial. He was released with no additional penalty. Dutch Jews criticized the ruling because it did not contain a reference identifying his actions as a hate crime.

The restaurant in recent years has been the target of multiple such incidents, including damage to the windows and the pelting of its facade with eggs. Last year, the owner, Sami Bar-On, said he would have to close down unless police manage to curb the attacks on his business.
The Jerusalem Post adds good news:
The police bomb disposal unit rushed to the scene to examine the device, according to the Twitter account of the Federatief Joods Nederland group. Police said on social media that they are examining the box. The probe revealed that the box contained no explosives, police said in a statement.
Just harassment, not actually deadly this time. But at least the police responded.

Cyprus rescues 101 Syrian migrants off coast
[AlAhram] Cyprus police said they rescued 101 Syrian migrants colonists sighted on a boat off the Mediterranean island's southeast coast on Tuesday.

A patrol vessel located the 33-metre (100-foot) boat 18 nautical miles off the resort town of Protaras.

The migrants colonists were brought to shore on an inflatable and their damaged boat anchored near a fishing harbour.

The migrants colonists had said they set off from Mersin in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
, an eastern Mediterranean route often used by people smugglers.

The migrants colonists -- 88 men, six women and seven children -- were being processed before transfer to a reception centre outside the capital Nicosia.

Nicosia has warned Brussels it has come under pressure from increased migration flows, ranking it top in first-time asylum seekers in proportion to its population.

Cyprus is the first Europe

an Union member to permanently host the European Asylum Support Office to help cope with the spike in arrivals.

But the small EU member, located 100 miles (160 kilometres) from Syria, has not seen the same massive inflow of migrants colonists as Turkey and Greece.

Syrian nationals accounted for 33 percent of first-time asylum seekers in Cyprus in the second quarter of 2019, EU figures show.

According to available government data, the number of arrivals and applicants for asylum from January to June last year almost reached 7,000.

US troops in Iraq resuming operations against Islamic State
[IsraelTimes] Soldiers returning to field to fight terror group, train Iraqis, despite tensions following strike on Soleimani and Baghdad demand that troops leave.

The US military is resuming operations against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
turbans in Iraq and is working to soon restart training Iraqi forces, US officials said Wednesday, despite deep divisions over the American dronezap that killed a senior Iranian commander in Baghdad and the resulting missile attacks by Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
on Iraqi bases.

One official said some joint operations between the US and Iraqi forces have already begun, but there are not yet as many as before. The official said details are still being worked out to restore the training of Iraqi forces, but that could happen relatively soon.

Relations with Iraq were fractured after the US launched a dronezap near Baghdad’s international airport on January 3 that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani
. The Parliament later voted to expel US forces from the country and Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi asked Washington to work out a road map for a troop withdrawal. The US flatly rejected that request and has not moved to pull the more than 5,000 troops out.

Officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss decisions not yet made public.

One official said military leaders have discussed the resumption of operations with the Iraqis, but it’s not clear who was involved in those talks or whether Iraqi government leaders are publicly endorsing the move.

Tensions in Iraq had been spiking since late December, when a rocket attack at a base in northern Iraq killed an American contractor. The US blamed Iran-backed fighters and quickly struck back. American Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s targeted Iranian-backed militia at five sites in Iraq and Syria, including weapons depots and command and control bases.

Over New Year’s, hundreds of Iran-backed murderous Moslems attacked the highly fortified American embassy compound in Baghdad. The Pentagon deployed hundreds of additional troops to the region, and scaled back military operations and training inside Iraq.

US officials have said they believe Iraq is also interested in resuming the training, which has been going on since 2015, after IS began taking control of large swaths of Iraq and Syria. More details, including increased security for US and coalition forces, are still being discussed.

The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

first reported the resumption of joint military operations.

Yezidi militia commander killed in Shingal district jet strike
[Rudaw] Jets struck the all-Yezidi Shingal Protection Units (YBS) militia on Wednesday, killing the YBS' commander, Rudaw has learned.

Commander Zardasht Shingali's death was confirmed to Rudaw news hound Tahsin Qadir by a relative on Wednesday afternoon.

Shingali is believed to be one of the five militia members confirmed killed by Iraqi Security Media Cell after a YBS vehicle was targeted by an unidentified Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
in Dugure, known in Arabic as Hatein. The Cell said the strikes took place at 11:35 am.

Qassim Khalaf, a former member of the Khanasor Local Council told Rudaw English earlier on Wednesday that jets struck a YBS position in the Shingal village of Dugure, north of Mount Shingal at approximately 11:00 am.

According to Tahsin, the strike was conducted by a Ottoman Turkish jet, leaving a vehicle carrying YBS members destroyed. Locals are anxious and fearful, the news hound added. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
neither the Cell nor Khalaf identified the strike as Ottoman Turkish.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...

(ISIS).

The YBS was established in Shingal, reportedly with the assistance of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK), a guerrilla organization fighting for greater political and cultural rights for the largely repressed Kurdish minority in Turkey.

Local Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) leader Zaki Shingali was killed in a Ottoman Turkish airstrike in August 2018. Shingali was a Yezidi and was known to work with the YBS.

Since liberation from ISIS in December 2015, Shingal has been controlled by a variety of gangs, including the YBS, the Iraqi army, the Peshmerga, the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi in Arabic).

A Twitter account close to the Ottoman Turkish army claimed 8 members of the YBS were killed.

IDF strikes Hamas in Gaza in response to rocket fire, as sustained calm tested
[IsraelTimes] Two incoming projectiles shot down by Iron Dome, others apparently strike open fields; attack sends hundreds of Israelis rushing to bomb shelters.

The Israeli Air Force launched a series of strikes on Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, sites in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip Wednesday evening in response to rocket fire on Israeli communities hours earlier, the military said.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, fighter jets attacked several Hamas facilities, including a weapons production site and a military base.

"The attack was carried out in response to the rocket launches from the Gaza Strip at Israeli territory," the military said in a statement.

Paleostinian media reported that one of the strikes targeted a Hamas naval commando facility in central Gaza. Footage of the attack (above) was widely shared on social media.

The military said it held Hamas, the de facto rulers of Gaza, responsible for all violence emanating from the Strip.

A Channel 13 news hound standing in a community near the Gaza border told the television network that he heard at least three explosions from the Gaza side of the border.

Also on Wednesday evening, police sappers were dispatched to the border town of Sderot where a suspicious object attached to a cluster of balloons landed in a residential neighborhood. It appeared to mark the renewal of the arson balloons attacks that torched thousands of acres of Israeli fields along the Gaza border in recent years.

The IDF strikes in Gaza came after bandidos Death Eaters ‐ reportedly belonging to the Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
group ‐ fired four mortar shells toward southern Israel, causing neither injury nor damage, according to the army.

Two of the incoming projectiles were intercepted by the military’s Iron Dome air defense system. The other two appeared to strike open fields in Israel’s Sha’ar Hanegev region, east of northern Gaza.

The mortar attack shattered a period of relative calm along the border.

The attack triggered sirens in the Israeli communities of Sa’ad, Kfar Aza and Nahal Oz, sending hundreds of residents rushing to bomb shelters.

The round of mortar fire came three days since alarms last sounded in Nahal Oz, apparently due to heavy machine gun fire from the coastal enclave.

Israel has reportedly warned the Hamas and Paleostinian Islamic Jihad terror groups against any attempted response to the US assassination of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani
earlier this month.
