[MAIL] The US reportedly relied on Israeli intelligence in the assassination of top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani.
Soleimani, the head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, was killed in a US airstrike as he left Baghdad International Airport after flying in from Damascus on January 3rd.
Informants in Damascus tipped the CIA off about which flight Soleimani would be on and Israeli intelligence verified and confirmed that information, NBC News and Reuters reported Sunday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is said to be the only foreign leader who knew of the planned assassination, having spoken to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo beforehand, according to the New York Times.

I guessed it was Israeli intelligence.
I just did not want to tip anyone off
like the liberals love to out things you know.
We have no better ally than Israel.
Following the attack on the USEMBASSY in the Iraqi Green Zone, It is likely all of the intelligence trees were shaken quite vigorously. One of the first 'go to' people I would seek info from would by our Israeli Mossad liaison contacts, next the British, then the French.
Possibly also of interest as mentioned yesterday, there does not appear to be any Iranian government officials, military or otherwise aboard that Ukrainian flight that was shot down. It would be rather naive to assume the Iranians were unaware of that flight, it's destination, or flight manifest.
Protests erupt across Iran for a second day, piling pressure on the leadership after the Iranian regime announced that its military had mistakenly brought down a Ukrainian plane, killing all 176 aboard.https://t.co/rcCqTktF15

[BREITBART] Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... signalled Sunday it favours "de-escalation" after 10 days of heightened tensions with the United States that saw both sides fire missiles and led Tehran to accidentally shoot down a passenger aircraft.
Security was stepped up in Iran’s capital after a vigil the previous night for those killed in the air disaster turned into an angry protest and police temporarily arrested the British ambassador for being there.
US President Donald Trump ...Oh, noze! Not him!... meanwhile warned Iran against harming demonstrators and against a repeat of a deadly crackdown against rallies in November sparked by a fuel price hike.
"To the leaders of Iran ‐ DO NOT KILL YOUR PROTESTERS," Trump tweeted in his occasional all-capitals style.
US Defence Secretary Mark Esper however said Trump was still willing to "sit down and discuss without precondition a new way forward" with Iran, but Tehran has steadfastly refused to hold talks with Washington unless it lifts sanctions first.
Tehran said it was interested in easing tensions in the region amid a standoff with arch-enemy Washington, which on January 3 killed a revered Iranian general, Quds Force chief Qasem Soleimani, in a Baghdad dronezap.
‘A CRITICAL TIME’
In a meeting between Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani ...Iran's moderate president, which he is, relative to his predecessor, which doesn't mean he's anything but a puppet of the nearest holy man... and the emir of Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi... , both sides agreed de-escalation is the "only solution" to the regional crisis, the emirate’s ruler said afterwards.
Qatar hosts the largest US military base in the region but also enjoys strong ties with Iran, with which it shares the world’s largest gas field.
"This visit comes at a critical time in the region," Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani said on what was believed to be his first official visit to the Islamic republic.
"We agreed... that the only solution to these crises is de-escalation from everyone and dialogue."
For his part, Rouhani said: "Given the importance of security of the region... we’ve decided to have more consultations and cooperation for the security of the entire region."
