Afghanistan
Afghan Forces Launch Special Operation in North
[Tolo News] A special operation was launched by Afghan cops in northern Faryab province to strengthen government's control over the province, officials said on Tuesday.
Happy hunting, guys. Be honourable and effective, and change the horrible image the Afghan police force currently has.
Provincial security officials said so far police forces have found four military vehicles that were seized by the Taliban and still efforts are underway to clear the area of bad boys.

The vehicles were seized by the Taliban during presidential campaign, officials said.

Intelligence officials in the north have found the operation effective to clear some parts of Ghormach of bad boys. Ghormach is a restive district in Faryab province.

Officials said the main aim of the operation is to prepare the ground for reconstruction of ring roads in the province.

"In the operation, four Ranger cars, belonging to both police and army, have been retaken by our forces. The Taliban took the vehicles a year ago," Safiullah Sadeq, Intelligence Chief of Zone 303, told TOLOnews.
No doubt an oil change, tire rotation, and serious cleaning are needed, then.
Ghormach district has been the scene of fearing violence in the past.

Afghan cops have recently boosted military operations in some parts of the country to increase pressure on the Taliban and make them leave Afghanistan.

10 southerners reported killed in new Sudan attack
[Asharq al-Aswat] Arab primitives killed 10 people and maimed 18 as they attacked a bus carrying southern Sudanese traveling from the country's north to their home region, which is holding an independence referendum, an official said Tuesday.

A leader of the Misseriya tribe, whose members are mostly nomadic cattle herders and which was blamed for the violence, denied there was an attack.

The south's Minister of Internal Affairs Maj. Gen. Gier Chuang Aluong said the attack happened Monday in South Kordofan, north of Sudan's north-south divide. More than 140,000 southerners who have lived in the north have streamed back to the south since October -- initially in order to participate in the referendum though some are now fleeing out of fear of northern retribution.

Southern Sudan's weeklong independence referendum began Sunday and is likely to split Sudan in two along its Arab-African faultline. The vote was part of a 2005 peace agreement that ended two decades of north-south civil war that killed 2 million people. Other attacks have been reported since Friday.

The casualty figures have been in dispute, but it's possible that around 40 people have died.

Southern officials have said that Misseriya on Sunday attacked police in the contested region of Abyei, killing 20. The tribe, for its part, accused police of killing 10 herders in about the same general area. The U.N. said it is "extremely concerned" about the reports of festivities in Abyei.

Abyei, which holds oil deposits, had been promised its own self-determination vote, but now whether it remains part of Sudan or joins an independent south is to be decided in negotiations that so far have made little progress.

Kenya: Security tightened at border with S. Sudan
[The Nation (Nairobi)] Security patrols have been intensified on the border of Kenya and Sudan as the referendum vote to decide whether the South should secede from the North enters its fourth day.

This is intended to contain the proliferation of illegal arms and in case there was an influx of refugees.

Turkana West district commissioner Patrick Muriira said additional public health and immigration officials had also been stationed at the border to carry out immunisation and registration of refugees.

"We have not received any refugees yet but mechanisms have been put in place to ensure that the government is not caught offguard in case of festivities as a result of the referendum."

Mr Muriira said screening would be carried out at the border to make sure that refugees did not enter the country with illegal guns.

"Immunisation for such contagious diseases as polio will also be done to avoid the refugees posing a health risk."

Tension has gripped the border region of Abyei with reports of 33 people killed in festivities between Misseriyan Arab nomads and sedentary Ngok Dinka community.

The disputed oil-rich Abyei area on the North-South border was expected to hold simultaneous referendum to decide its destiny but the voting was indefinitely postponed.

"We are consulting with the local community to provide extra land to accommodate more refugees in case there is an influx of refugees," said Mr Muriira.

He cautioned the local community against accommodating foreigners without valid documents.

The immigration and customs officials are also checking for contraband goods, including drugs.

Policeman shoots Christian dead in southern Egypt
Ay Pee, summarized:
An off-duty policeman got on a train and opened fire on Tuesday, killing a 71-year-old Christian man and wounding his wife and four other women, the Interior Ministry said. All those shot were Christians. The attack, which took place less than two weeks after the suicide bombing of a church killed 21, sparked new demonstrations by enraged Christians who pelted police with stones in southern Egypt.
BBC adds:
At least another five people were reported to have been injured in the shooting on a train between Assiut and Cairo. Officials said at least four of those hurt were Coptic Christians.

Witnesses said hundreds of Christians later clashed with police outside the hospital where the wounded were taken. Police fired teargas to disperse them, reports from Samalut, in Minya province, said.

The gunman, who officials said had boarded the train at Samalut, has been arrested. The Egyptian interior ministry named him as police officer Amer Ashour Abdel-Zaher. Officials have not given a motive for Tuesday's shooting.

The ministry statement said the officer "opened fire on some train passengers from his pistol and ran away", adding that he was later arrested at his home.

The BBC's Jon Leyne reports from Cairo that it is difficult to see how the gunmen would have known he could target Christians by boarding the train.
I imagine the Coptic women would not be veiled, and the murdered man would not have a prayer mark on his forehead.

Update 2:10pm ET. From the "Ask, and ye shall be answered" department, courtesy of Melanie Philips (hattip ryuge), from AlMasryAlYoum:
An unidentified gunman entered the train while it was stationed at the southern city of Samalout in the Minya governorate, some 260 km south of Cairo.

Security sources said the assailant had checked passengers for the green cross traditionally tatooed on the wrists of Coptic Christians in Egypt. After identifying several Copts, the culprit killed one of them and injured five others.

Hostages: Point Africa tour operator suspended its last flights in the Sahel
[Ennahar] The French tour operator Point Afrique, which charters planes and organizes trips in the Sahel, has decided to suspend its proposed last flights in the region after the death of two Frenchies kidnapped Friday in Niamey, told AFP Tuesday its president.

"AQIM (al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb) won the first round. The fear has been installed. The tourists stop coming," said Mr. Freund.

"I stop all: Atar in Mauritania and Mopti (Mali) soon," said Mr. Freund who "postponed also the launching in February of Chad, a country where there is not yet AQIM.

"There are not enough people. Our financial reserves melt," he summarized, explaining for example that there were only "nine people on the plane in early January between Gay Paree and Atar.

Same for serving the Mopti: "I will maintain the flights until 23 January for the return of holidaymakers. There are 80 people per flight where financial balance is 120".

On Tuesday, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned against tourism operators in the Sahel where no area, whether in Mali, Mauritania and Niger, is considered safe and where it is not recommended to go "unless compelling reasons."

Point Afrique decided Sept. 22 to remove six of the seven routes it proposed in the Sahel (from southern Algeria to northern Niger), after AQIM abduction of seven people (five French, a Malagasy and a Togolese) in Arlit (Niger).

Mali: Shots by French helicopters, vehicles of the kidnappers burned
[Ennahar] French Helicopters fired on January 8 on the convoy of vehicles of the kidnappers of two French in northern Mali where the charred wreckage were found, said to AFP Malian sources.

According to a Malian security source, French commandos on board of "military helicopters," opened fire on the vehicles, before descending to the ground.

This "final assault took place at about fifteen kilometers from the Malian town Tabankor (35 km south of Menaka)," the source said.

"Among the recovered vehicles burned, there was a large 4x4 vehicle registered in Benin," said an administrative authority in the north of Mali, joined by AFP in Bamako.

In Niamey, witnesses attributed the kidnapping to the North African branch of al-Qaeda had said that two Frenchies were taken January 7 at night by people "armed and turbaned", "on a 4x4 car registered in Benin ".

According to French officials, the lifeless bodies of two Frenchies were discovered after the assault. French Prime Minister Francois Fillon had said they were "coldly eliminated" by their captors.

A source close to the Nigerian presidency has told AFP that "the bodies were charred. According to medical sources in Niamey, which could see the bodies, the two men "had been tied, hands behind the back, and they had black marks on the body."

An autopsy must be performed at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Gay Paree.

Among the charred vehicles found on the scene of the attack, "there was also a vehicle of the Nigerian police as the Nigerians came to search" Sunday, "said Malian administrative source.

A Malian farmer, returning from the "desert" place where the assault took place, also reported seeing "several charred cars one of which belonged to the Nigerian police." "I saw on the ground the remains of people burned, humans pieces," he added.

In Niamey Monday, the French Minister of Defense Alain Juppé had denied any French "blunder". After the assault, "forces of Evil and persons wearing Niger police uniform had been found dead with the hostages." An investigation should establish what is the reason for their presence in the vehicles we have jugged," said Mr. Juppé.

According to security sources in Mali, a 4x4 car with a double tank allowing it to ride a thousand miles was leading the convoy of the kidnappers, followed by a pick-up. "We then found on board the pick-up ten boxes of ammunition and arms burned," the source said.

Troops deployed after 18 dead in Nigeria
[Emirates 24/7] Soldiers rushed to restore calm to parts of central Nigeria on Tuesday with 18 people reported killed as renewed violence flared in the tense region, authorities said.

Central Nigeria has seen a wave of violence in recent weeks, including Christmas Eve kabooms and reprisal attacks that killed at least 80 people as well as festivities between Christian and Mohammedan ethnic groups.

The surge in killings has occurred ahead of elections set for April.

"I am told that 13 people died in the dawn attack," Plateau state police commissioner Abdulrahman Akano said of one attack in the mainly Christian village of Wareng.

A local politician also said 13 were killed there, adding they had been hacked to death with machetes.

A separate attack in the nearby area of Barkin Ladi left five more people dead, Akano said later in the day without providing further details.

The commander of a military task force in the region said unrest had occurred in various areas and soldiers were deployed to restore calm.

"We have quite a number of people killed," Brigadier General Hassan Umaru told AFP. "We are trying to contain each of these crises."

He could not immediately provide details on the unrest. Umaru first reported incidents in "several villages," but later said two villages had been hit.

The local politician, Emmanuel Danboyi Jugul, alleged Fulani Mohammedans had attacked Christian Beroms in the Wareng attack. He also accused soldiers of being involved in the attack, though Umaru strongly denied the claim.

Plateau state, including its capital Jos, has long been on edge, but unprecedented Christmas Eve kabooms added a frightening new dimension to the unrest.

An Islamist sect blamed for a series of attacks in the country's north grabbed credit for the Christmas Eve kabooms, but authorities cast doubt on the claim and attributed it to political motives with elections set for April.

Plateau state lies in the so-called middle belt between Nigeria's mainly Mohammedan north and predominately Christian south.

Scores of people have been killed in festivities in the region in unrest many attribute to the struggle for economic and political power between Christian and Mohammedan ethnic groups.

Christians from the Berom ethnic group are typically referred to as the indigenes in the region, while Hausa-Fulani Mohammedans are seen as more recent arrivals.

Tensions over the weekend in the region left a number of houses burnt, while two buses carrying Mohammedan passengers were attacked in a Christian village on Friday.

Nigeria as a whole has seen an upsurge in violence in recent weeks ahead of the April elections, including a deadly bombing in the capital Abuja and violence targeting political rallies.

Spanish police link detained ETA members to the FARC
[El Universal] Two ETA members accused of giving computer training to guerrilla members of the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) were captured in Spain and La Belle France hours after a ceasefire declared by the terrorist group.
No doubt they'll want an amnesty next...
The French police and the Spanish Civil Guard nabbed in Ciboure, southeast of La Belle France, Iraitz Guesalaga, the ETA information technology head and responsible for security of its communications, only 18 hours after the terrorist organization declared "permanent and general, verifiable by the international community" ceasefire, Efe reported.

In the same operation, Guesalaga's partner Itxaso Urtiaga was nabbed in Zarautz, in the Spanish province of Guipúzcoa.

Anti-terrorist sources suspect that the ETA member travelled to Venezuela along with his partner to give computer training to members of the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) and ETA members sheltered in Venezuela.

South Asians win reduced jails terms for planned Spain attack
[Dawn] Spain's Supreme Court has reduced the sentences against 11 men of South Asian origin, most of them from Pakistain, who had planned an attack against the Barcelona metro, it said Tuesday.

The men had appealed against the sentences of eight to 14 years handed down by the National Court in December 2009.

The Supreme Court decided to cut the sentences because their planned attack was only at an "embryonic" stage, the ruling said.

One of the 11, Pakistain-born Maroof Ahmed Mirza, "the leader of the cell" saw his sentence cut from 10-and-a-half years to eight years. The jail terms of the other 10 were reduced to six years.

In convicting the men, the National Court had said they intended to "carry out a violent attack using explosives against the Barcelona metro, which could have caused many casualties."

The charges were based on the declarations of an informant who was a member of the suspected krazed killer cell and who then became a protected witness.

Ten of the men are of Pak origin and one is from India.

Spanish authorities have stepped up operations against hard boyz since the March 11, 2004 Al-Qaeda-inspired train bombings in Madrid that killed 191 people and maimed 1,800 others in the country's worst such attack.

Spanish police said last month they had jugged six Paks and a Nigerian suspected of providing forged passports to organisations linked to Al-Qaeda, including the group accused of plotting the 2008 attacks in Mumbai.

Six Maoist suspects in rail station blast held in Orissa
(PTI) Six suspected Maoists, including a woman, were today jugged in connection with the Maoist attack at Bandhamunda railway station in Orissa on Sunday.

Police said five of them were nabbed from Bisra area while the woman was jugged from Bandhmunda near here.

Preliminary investigation suggested that all the six were involved in blasting of signal cabin at Bandhmunda railway station and planting of landmine in Jareikela police outpost and Bisra panchayat office, police claimed.

Interrogation of all jugged Maoists was still on and they will be produced in a court tomorrow, police said.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Medics: 1 dead in Gaza airstrike
[Ma'an] Israeli warplanes struck southern Gazoo on Tuesday, killing one Paleostinian and injuring a second, medics said.

Gazoo medical services front man Adham Abu Salmia identified the dear departed as Muhammad An-Najjar, 25.

Witnesses said Israeli forces targeted An-Najjar as he was riding his cycle of violence east of Khan Younis.

Abu Salmia said a passenger on the cycle of violence was injured and taken to the Nasser Hospital.

The Israeli military said it targeted An-Najjar in a joint operation between air and ground forces.

An-Najjar was an operative of Islamic Jihad and "involved in planning a massive terror attack in the heart of Israel," the army said in a statement.

"A direct hit was confirmed," the statement said.

Earlier Tuesday, Gazoo government front man Taher An-Nunu called on Paleostinian factions operating in the Strip to comply with "what has been agreed on," seemingly implying the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-led government would enforce an unofficial cease fire with Israel.

An-Nunu said the Gazoo government was in talks with local contacts and on an international level to avoid a full-scale Israeli offensive on the besieged coastal enclave.

Right-wing Israeli ministers have urged their government to respond to projectiles fired from Gazoo with tough military action.

Tension along the Gazoo-Israel border has heightened in recent weeks, with an increase in projectiles launched from Gazoo and several Israeli Arclight airstrikes shelling sites across the Strip.

Israel: Projectile hits Ashkelon
(Ma'an) -- Militants in Gazoo on Tuesday launched a projectile into southern Israel, the Israeli military said.

The projectile landed in Ashkelon Shore Regional Council but caused no damage or injuries, an Israeli military spokeswoman said.

On Sunday night, Israeli warplanes dropped missiles on sites in the northern and southern Gazoo Strip.

The army said the strikes were in response to "intense rocket fire in the past 72 hours."

Right-wing Israeli ministers have called on the government to respond to projectile fire with tough military action.

On Tuesday, Israeli forces carried out a targeted liquidation near Khan Younis in the southern Gazoo Strip.

The military said 25-year-old Muhammad An-Najjar was planning a "massive terror attack" inside Israel.

The Gazoo government on Tuesday urged factions operating in the Strip to comply with "what has been agreed on," in an apparent attempt to enforce the unofficial ceasefire.

Spokesman for the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-led government Taher An-Nunu said talks were ongoing on a local and international level to avoid another Israeli war on the besieged coastal enclave.

Israel's last full-scale offensive, Operation Cast Lead, claimed the lives of around 1,400 Paleostinians, most of whom were civilians.

Israel said the war was in response to rocket and mortar fire from the Strip into southern Israel.

#1  Oh goodness, here we go again with the editing or translation.

On Sunday night, Israeli warplanes dropped missiles on sites in the northern and southern Gazoo Strip.

Dropped? Seriously, dropped? Did someone stub their toe?

And see the article's illustration as well. I'll give them some leeway here on the scale and distance, but it sure looks like rockets powered by Estes.

Jordan police detain man threatening to bomb plane
[Asharq al-Aswat] A Jordanian man who threatened to blow up the plane he was on with a hand grenade told his police interrogators Monday that it was all a joke, officials said.

A senior government official said the man first told a member of the cabin crew that he was going to blow up the plane as it was preparing to take off from Amman's Queen Alia International Airport en route to Dubai.

The man was then jugged without a struggle, the official said, and bomb squads searched the plane and found nothing.

"Luckily, it was a false alarm," he said, on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.

The man later told authorities that he "was joking," according to police and the government official.

The man said he worked as a co-pilot for a private aviation firm in Dubai, police added.

"He insisted to one of the cabin crew members on entering the cockpit, to speak with the pilot," the government official said, and when the flight attendant refused, he "claimed he had a grenade and he would use it to blow up the plane."

The flight, from the low cast carrier flydubai, was delayed for three hours due to the incident.

The man, who was not identified, is under investigation and will be prosecuted, said police.

Four gunned down in southern Thailand
Suspected Islamic terrorists rebels have gunned down four people and wounded another two in southern Thailand.

Two Muslim men, aged 33 and 40, were killed on Monday in separate drive-by shootings in Narathiwat province. The younger man was a security officer on his way to guard a government building.

In Yala province on Tuesday a Muslim couple, aged 40 and 45, were gunned down in an ambush as they returned home from work on a rubber plantation. The husband was a security volunteer as well.

Two men in their twenties were also seriously wounded on Monday in shooting attacks in southern Thailand.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Hezbollah Topples Lebanese Government
The Islamic militant group Hezbollah and its allies plan to resign from the Lebanese Cabinet and topple the government on Wednesday over tensions stemming from the international investigation of the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, officials said.

The ministers were planning to resign in the afternoon unless Western-backed Prime Minister Saad Hariri -- the son of the slain leader -- agrees to their demand to convene an urgent Cabinet meeting over the tribunal crisis, Health Minister Mohammed Jawad Khalifeh said on Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV.

A senior official in Hariri's Future Movement, Mustafa Alloush, said Hariri would not succumb to "pressure and ultimatums."
Careful Saad, and you might want to check the road for recently-repaired potholes...
"The prime minister is not opposed to a meeting in principle, but he has commitments outside Lebanon now," Alloush told The Associated Press. Hariri, whose coalition has been sharing power with the Iranian-backed militant group, was to meet Wednesday with President Barack Obama in Washington to discuss the crisis.

Fox News reports they've gone ahead and done it.
An-Nahar scroll:
5:32pm Minister of State Adnan Sayyed Hussein announced in a statement his resignation from Cabinet.
5:17pm Agence France Presse: Prime Minister Saad Hariri went into talks with U.S. President Barack Obama at the moment that Opposition ministers resigned from the Lebanese government.
5:14pm Bassil: Our decision is constitutional and legal. We are making room for a new government in order for it to perform its duties.
5:12pm Bassil: The prime minister is faced with choosing either Beirut and Washington or Beirut and any other capital. We have taken our choice through adhering to the institutions.
5:10pm Bassil: We announce our resignation from government and we turn to the prime minister to speed up the formation of a new Cabinet.
5:08pm Energy Minister Jebran Bassil: We thank Saudi King Abdullah and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for their efforts to reach a settlement and we are sorry that the efforts have been missed.
5:07pm Minister Abdullah arrived at Rabieh and the opposition ministers took their places to start the press conference.
5:00pm OTV: The opposition will announce its statement within minutes. The delay was caused by Minister Ali Abdullah's late arrival to Rabieh from the airport.

Just a few thoughts:
  • Thus passeth another Government of National Unity™, with the majority held hostage to the minority.

  • This being Leb, there will probably be another Government of National Unity™ down the road, featuring the same old hacks doing the same old thing.

  • This is a desperation move on the part of Hezbollah. They expect the Special Tribunal report to name names, dates, times, and maybe even where the money comes from. "The Resistance" gets painted a the assassins they are but that they've been pretending not to be.

  • If this doesn't kill the Special Tribunal they're going to have to try and take over the government themselves. Failing that, Syria will be invited in to "restore order."

  • Hezbollah's owners in Teheran can't be happy with this. They've been tromping inexorably toward total control of the Leb satrapy and now this threatens the ultimate end. It's not all that much a threat, but it's there.

  • The UN commission's been scared to release the indictments and the government's been scared to receive them, which has had the net effect of exacerbating the tension.

  • Aoun has been shown to be a puppet.

  • Jumblatt, whose reputation was actually gleaming prior to this, has shown himself to be a poltroon.

  • Amal has reminded people that it's nothing but an arm of Hezbollah.

  • Samir Geagea is a really gutsy guy and Hezbollah will probably assassinate him next.

  • The Lebs have been reminded that the Shiite 34 percent of the population is in effective control.

  • There's barely anything about this on the teevee. The shooting in Arizona and the left-right political pie fight is considered ever so much more important than this.

#6  Hezbollah is between a rock and a hard place. If they physically take over Lebanon, Israel will have no qualms about destroying the entire country the next time Hezbollah attacks Israel.

Next time, Israel will be totally thorough, and may even use some of its nuclear weapons against Lebanon. That's about the only choice they have against over 40,000 Hezbollah rockets and missiles.

If I were the members of UNIFIL, I'd be packing up and withdrawing as rapidly as possible. Hezbollah will only use them as hostages against the Israelis, and the Israelis may just say "SC$$$ It".

Neither Iran nor Syria can do anything to stop Hezbollah from doing whatever it's about to do, because Hezbollah is desperate. Desperate people make bad choices and big mistakes.

I'd be willing to bet money that there's an Israeli sub with several nuclear-tipped cruise missiles somewhere either in the Persian Gulf or the Indian Ocean. I'm sure they "pop up" every now and then, just to give Iran jitters. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a US nuke sub or three in the same general area, with a similar mission.

The Muddled East is once again on the verge of war.

#7  IMO this so-called "collapse" of the Hezzie-Hizzie-Hazzie-Huzzie, etal. led Lebanese Govt. may had been PRE-PLANNED TO COINCIDE WID MUQTADA SADR'S RETURN TO IRAQ FROM EXILE IN IRAN, which in turn coincides wid AFPAK Milterrs = Burqua/Hard Boyz setting up in CENTRAL ASIAN regions OUTSIDE OF AFPAK.

SAME METHOD, CONCEPTS WE SEE IN EAST AFRICAN = SOMALIA, etc. JIHAD, NOW EXPANDING INTO CENTRAL AFRICA WHILE INTENSIFYING IN NORTH AFRICA.

#10  OP---Michael J Totten on his blog reported this:

Hezbollah had 10,000 rockets before the war in 2006. Now it has between 40,000 and 50,000. Some are stored in warehouses. Others are hidden away a few at a time in private homes.

Not cleaning out Hizb'Allah in 2006 was a huge mistake by Israel. Now the ante is upped at least 4-fold.

Philippine rebel leader snared by affair
[Straits Times] A PHILIPPINE communist rebel leader's secret tryst with a mistress landed him in double trouble, leading to his arrest and the unravelling of his affair with a comrade's wife, the military said on Monday.

Tirso Alcantara was shot in the buttock by police last week who jugged him as he visited a house in the city of Lucena, military officials said at the time. But the alleged nature of the visit only came to light on Monday.

Alcantara, the married head of communist rebels in the region south of Manila, was tracked down because the military knew of his affair with a jugged comrade's wife, military front man Brigadier-General Jose Mabanta said.

'He was jugged because he was visiting his lover,' Gen Mabanta told news hounds. 'This means the members of the underground, just like any normal human beings, have their own share of personal problems.'

Alcantara is now recuperating at a military hospital after surgery to remove a bullet embedded in his buttock. Gen Mabanta, who would not say if Alcantara was caught literally with his pants down, stressed it was up to the rebel's jailers to determine whether both his wife and mistress would be allowed to visit him in hospital.

Gen Mabanta said Alcantara had been carrying out an affair with the wife of Eulogio Castillo, one of 43 suspected communist rebels who was jugged in a military raid near Manila in February last year. The mistress is a former communist rebel who had quit the movement, Gen Mabanta said.
