Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time in seven months despite receiving four vaccine doses, he announced in a statement Monday.
“This morning, I tested positive for COVID-19. I am experiencing mild symptoms, and will quarantine at home for the next five days in accordance with CDC guidelines. I will retain all authorities and plan to maintain my normal work schedule virtually from home,” he said in a statement.
He last had COVID-19 in January of this year.
He said his doctor told him that his “fully-vaccinated status, including two booster shots” is why his symptoms are less severe than would otherwise be the case.
He said his last in-person contact with President Joe Biden was more than two weeks ago, on July 29.
He ordered in August 2021 that all U.S. service members be fully-vaccinated.
Since then, tens of thousands of U.S. service members have filed for exemptions on religious and other grounds and are awaiting adjudication. More than 7,000 have been kicked out of the military for not complying with Austin’s order.

The Times reported Tuesday that the National Archives and Records Administration, which stores records from past presidential administrations, had contacted Trump's legal team earlier this year after discovering that key documents were missing from the Trump administration's records.
The president's team had handed over several boxes of materials in January. Justice Department then returned to Mar-a-Lago in June to collect several more documents that had been marked as classified, which had not been handed back following the original request.
Having obtained surveillance footage from Mar-a-Lago via a subpoena, agents saw something that alarmed them in recordings of a hallway outside a storage room, The Times reported, citing people familiar with the investigation.
The agents also received evidence from a witness that there was more classified material remaining in the storage room, The Times reported.
The report did not specify what officials saw in the footage.

Yes this will be like when there was 'improper storage' of nuclear material in oak ridge when the so called inspector reported them for storing the boxes 23 inches apart instead of 21, which was really the minimum distance. He decided to make the regulation be 21 inches no more no less than that a minimum of 21 inches cause then he can claim improper storage and regulation violations for being MORE SAFE than required.
