#2  I miss the Nuggets, too. The Friday Times is still a going concern, but no longer light hearted or, honestly, interesting.

Twitter attaches disclaimer on Trump's 'mail drop boxes' tweet
They will be totally screwed if he wins...
[AlAhram] Twitter Inc on Sunday placed a disclaimer on U.S. President Donald Trump
...the Nailer of NAFTA...
's tweet criticizing the promotion of drop boxes by Democrats as an option for voters, saying the tweet violated the company's "civic and election integrity" rules.
"So now the Democrats are using Mail Drop Boxes, which are a voter security disaster. Among other things, they make it possible for a person to vote multiple times. Also, who controls them, are they placed in Republican or Democrat areas? They are not Covid sanitized. A big fraud!" Trump said in a tweet posted on Sunday morning.

Twitter, in a disclaimer attached to the tweet, said: "Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the tweet to remain accessible."

Democrats across the country are promoting drop boxes as a convenient and reliable option for voters who do not want to entrust their ballots to the U.S. Postal Service. Republican officials in other states have prevented their use.

#1  Hadn't heard of such a device before this.

MADISON - Election officials in the state’s two largest cities are expanding the use of absentee ballot drop boxes this fall as an influx of absentee ballots is expected and fears mount about delays with mail.

Milwaukee is installing 15 drop boxes across the city — three times as many as it had for the April election for state Supreme Court. Madison will have 14 of them.

In both cities, officials say voters will be able to check an online portal the next day to confirm their ballots were received.

The drop boxes will help voters return absentee ballots faster.

Seems like it's just absentee ballots, with some measure of control. But if you can go out to the drop box, why not to the ballot box?

#2  Ref #1:....if you can go out to the drop box, why not to the ballot box?

My guess, only a guess. Drop boxes don't check registration or voter ID. No need for any of that, right ?

#3  By design, B.

Also, US Postal Service mailed-in ballot tampering carries a federal offense component.

This method doesn't.

#4  absentee ballots do require a person request them in advance and when the election board gets them they can be compared with record

it is not perfect and subject to abuse

but the Dems want at least two steps more - same day registration and voting and mass voting by everyone

#5  absentee ballots do require a person request them in advance and when the election board gets them they can be compared with record

It depends on the state, lord garth. Some require the voter to send in a ballot request, some some are sending ballot requests out to every voter they have on file, and some are just sending out the ballots themselves without waiting.

Joe Biden's Campaign Apologizes to Anti-Semite Linda Sarsour In Pathetic Reversal
[RedState] But now, it appears the Biden campaign is trying to play both sides, publicly denouncing Sarsour for the plaudits while at the same time making backroom calls to assure she and her supporters that they don’t really mean it. Middle East Eye obtained a recording of this happening last night.

Top aides to presidential candidate Joe Biden have apologised to Arab and Muslim Democrats over an attack on Palestinian-American activist Linda Sarsour by the campaign, in an effort to quell anger over the controversy.

In a private call with dozens of prominent activists on Sunday, Ashley Allison, national coalitions director for the Biden campaign, said she was “sorry” for the comments that a campaign spokesman made against Sarsour.
Top foreign policy adviser Tony Blinken also expressed “regret” over the incident during the virtual meeting.

Anger erupted after a Biden campaign spokesman had condemned Sarsour and suggested that she was antisemitic over her criticism of Israel.

Allison said she empathised with “the pain” that the campaign had caused to Arabs and Muslims by disavowing Sarsour.

“I am sorry that that happened. And I hope that whatever trust was broken, that this conversation is one small step to help build back the trust, but that is not the last time we have this conversation,” Allison told the activists.

Graham says declassified FBI documents show 'double standard' for Clinton and Trump campaigns
[FOXNEWS] Following the release of recently declassified documents, Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham
...soft-spoken senator from South Carolina, former best buddy of John Maverick McCain. Since McCain's demise, Graham has become more outspoken, more Republican and more of a supporter of President Trump. The speech he gave in support of Brett Kavanaugh was downright manly and really cheesed off the Dems...
, R-S.C., says he believes the FBI showed a double standard in its investigations into reports of foreign interference at the campaigns of Crooked Hillary Clinton
...former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away. Politix is not one of her talents, but it's something she keeps trying to do...
and now-President Trump in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election.

Calling it "the ultimate double standard," Graham said that the documents reveal that leaders at the FBI sought to give the Clinton campaign a defensive briefing before it could pursue a FISA warrant related to a threat posed to the campaign by a foreign government.

But instead of doing the same for the Trump campaign, the FBI opened the Crossfire Hurricane operation and pursued a number of FISA warrants against people working with Trump’s campaign.

While Graham would not reveal which foreign government wanted to assist Clinton in getting elected, he said on Fox News’ "Sunday Morning Futures" that FBI leadership shot down a request for a FISA warrant until Clinton was briefed on the matter.

"They never did to Trump," Graham said. "As a matter of fact, not only did they not tell Trump, they used a generic briefing to spy on Trump."

Crossfire Hurricane was the code name of the FBI counterintelligence investigation into links between Trump associates like George Papadopoulos, Michael Flynn and Carter Page and Russian officials and whether they worked "wittingly or unwittingly, with the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 U.S. presidential election."

[COMMENTARYMAGAZINE] The Democratic National Convention is over, and Democrats did not leave much to voters’ imaginations.

#6  #2

I'm convinced the GOPe did their damnedest to throw 2018 to clog up Trump's agenda.

The question is whether that GOP is still the one we have now.

I think we're about to find out.
Posted by: charger || 08/24/2020 13:41 Comments || Top||

#7  The 2016 eGOP class was the worst of establishment cronyism and they did everything they could to jam Trump up. They got plastered in 2018 because of it.

This time around we have many pro-Trump new Republicans that hate the establishment as much as Trump. If they get in, then I expect to see some change.

Also anything but a huge Trump landslide will be war as no one will believe the results on either side and the cultural divide will become a physical one.
A huge Trump landslide will shatter the demoncrats and hopefully they can purge the cultist ideology that infects them and the far left.

New York State Troopers union boss endorses Trump for re-election
[NYPOST] The head of the union representing 4,000 New York State Police Troopers — a workforce overseen by Democratic Gov. Andrew Sonny Cuomo — is backing Republican President Trump’s re-election bid."Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has our back. President Trump has supported us when so many people have turned against us," NYS Troopers PBA president Thomas Mungeer told the Post on the eve of the Republican National Convention.

"Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Candidate for president in 2020. When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'...
supported cops in the past but he’s turned his back on us," said Mungeer, referring to the former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee who is taking on Trump in the Nov. 3 general election.

Mungeer’s endorsement of Trump comes just ten days after New York City PBA president Patrick Lynch personally threw his union’s support behind Trump at an event with the president at his Bedminster, N.J. golf club.

The bottom line, Mungeer said, is that Democrats have swung too far to the left on criminal justice issues — leaning in the direction of criminal defendants at the expense of cops and law-abiding citizens.

He said the anti-law enforcement shift started before the protests and violence that erupted following the police brutality death of George Floyd in Minneapolis but has accelerated since then, including within the national Democratic Party
...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects...
. The recent crime spike in New York and other urban areas wasn’t specifically discussed during last week’s Democratic National Convention.

California fires: State, feds agree to thin millions of acres of forests
[EASTBAYTIMES] The two dozen major fires burning across Northern Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, were sparked by more than 12,000 lightning strikes, a freak weather occurrence that turned what had been a relatively mild fire season into a devastating catastrophe.Yet what’s driving these enormous fires is not sparks, but millions of acres of fuel: bone-dry trees and brush that haven’t burned in many years.

Before the Gold Rush in 1849, large parts of California burned every few decades. Lightning fires burned for months, and native tribes burned the land, clearing out dead vegetation. But for much of the past century, as the state’s population has built homes, towns and parks in rural areas, firefighters have extinguished the flames to save property and lives, allowing forests and other landscapes to become unnaturally dense.

As a result, fires now burn hotter and with more intensity. Climate change is increasing temperatures and drying out vegetation earlier. And the reckoning is here.

"We have put out fires for 100 years. Now we are paying the price," said Scott Stephens, a professor of fire science at UC Berkeley. "It will take a while to make these forests healthy again. But it’s absolutely possible."

California has been increasing its efforts. Last week, in a little-noticed milestone, state officials signed a major agreement with the federal government that aims to reshape how forests are managed for years to come.

Under the plan, California agencies and the U.S. Forest Service will use brush clearing, logging and prescribed fires to thin out 1 million acres a year by 2025 — an area larger than Yosemite National Park every 12 months, and roughly double the current rate of thinning, which already is double rates from a few years ago.
