Nancy Pelosi Signals Surrender on Relief Bill Just a Day After Going Full Leroy Jenkins
[Red State] - If this is true, it’s welcome news.

Nancy Pelosi, just a day after going full Leroy Jenkins on the negotiations over the Wuhan virus relief bill, is now signaling that the House will pass whatever the Senate sends them. This follows Chuck Schumer reversing course last night and announcing he expects a deal done today as well.

He would acceptable to the Bernie bros and at the same time be not-unacceptable to a swath of moderate-by-today's-standards Dems; all the Party needs to but him on the ballot is a brokered convention (unlikely at this point) or for Joe, at the last minute, have to 'regretfully have to withdraw from nomination due to health issues,' allowing the Party 350 to pick whomever they choose. October surprise.

The Obama-Biden Administration Scrapped WH Health and Security Office in 2009
[PJ] For weeks now, Democrats and the anti-Trump media have been spreading the false story that President Trump dissolved the White House pandemic office in 2018. This false claim helped perpetuate another falsehood: that the Trump administration was not only ill-prepared for the coronavirus outbreak, but also slow to respond to it.

This allegation was debunked by Tim Morrison, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, who said the office was not dissolved at all, and he knows because he was there, serving as senior director for counterproliferation and biodefense on the National Security Council. "Because I led the very directorate assigned that mission, the counterproliferation and biodefense office, for a year and then handed it off to another official who still holds the post, I know the charge is specious," he wrote.

What do the people who are outraged that Trump dissolved the pandemic office in 2018 (even though he didn’t) have to say about this, which was reported in the Washington Post just last week:

Robert Davi: ‘We Must Hold Pelosi and the Marxists Accountable'
[Breitbart] Actor Robert Davi has put out an impassioned plea for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other Congressional Democrats to be held "accountable" for what he sees as their anti-business and anti-capitalist agenda in the face of the global coronavirus pandemic.

He also called on Pelosi, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and others to stop "playing politics with our lives."

Davi posted a series of videos to Twitter Monday saying that Pelosi and others he described as "Marxists" are using the crisis as an opportunity to push a socialist plan on the American people. "Every plan that the Democrats have is corrupt," the License to Kill actor said. "What they want is what Bernie Sanders wants, which is a revolution... They’re using this to collapse the nation."

Pelosi has been a key force blocking the passage of a $1.6 trillion Congressional stimulus package that would provide much-needed relief to Americans as the global coronavirus pandemic continues to threaten the U.S. economy. Along with Schumer, Pelosi has criticized the bill for being too pro-business.

Davi said in his Twitter video that private businesses form the backbone of the U.S. economy. "Unless there are businesses there are no workers of the world," he said. "The left will take your freedoms away from you. The left is dangerous."

The conservative Hollywood actor also cautioned people not to trust the mainstream media. "They’re not telling you what’s going on," he said, adding later: "We’re in a crisis point. We have to work together. We can beat this."

Davi said in an earlier tweet on Monday that Congressional Democrats are behaving like Communists.

"This is what Communists do, they use the workers to destroy them," he wrote. "Without healthy business there are no workers!"

Democrat Clyburn on Coronavirus Bill: ‘This Is a Tremendous Opportunity to Restructure Things to Fit Our Vision’
[BREITBART] House Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) reportedly told Democrats on a conference call last week that the party should exploit the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
stimulus: "This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision."

Clyburn’s statement, reported by The Hill, which cited a source on a "conference call featuring more than 200 members of the House Democratic caucus" last Thursday, recalls an infamous statement by Rahm Emanuel, the incoming chief of staff to President-elect Barack Obama
I inhaled. That was the point...
during the global financial crisis, who told the Wall Street Journal: "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste ... This crisis provides the opportunity for us to do things that you could not do before."

The quote became relevant again Sunday night into Monday morning, as Democrats blocked an effort to pass an emergency stimulus, reportedly insisting on changes to suit favored social interests.

Nancy Pelosi Proposes 1,400-Page Coronavirus Bill Stuffed with Special Interest Goodies

...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
rescue bill after Democrats tanked the Senate proposal on Sunday night.

The bill includes a wish list of Democrats’ pet issues including:

Increased fuel emission standards for airlines receiving funds and carbon offsets:(1) IN GENERAL. Not later than 90 days after the enactment of this Act, the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration shall require each air carrier receiving assistance under section 101, to fully offset the annual carbon emissions of such air carriers for domestic flights beginning in 2025.

Payment for up to $10,000 in student loans:
(1) MINIMUM STUDENT LOAN RELIEF AS A RESULT OF THE COVID‐19 NATIONAL EMERGENCY. Not later than 270 days after the last day of the COVID‐19 emergency period, the Secretaries concerned shall jointly carry out a program under which a qualified borrower, with respect to the covered loans and private education of loans of such qualified borrower, shall receive in accordance with paragraph (3) an amount equal to the lesser of the following:
(A) The total amount of each covered loan and each private education loan of the borrower; or
(B) $10,000.

Same-day voter registration, early voting, voting by mail, ballot harvesting
The bill includes several provisions on voting laws and regulations, as Democrats argue that the crisis should force the government to revisit voting regulations to make it easier to vote, allowing same-day voter registration and voting by mail, and mailing out ballots to absentee voters. Other voting fraud watchdogs raised flags about ballot harvesting and grants for conducting risk-limiting audits of election results

Preserving collective bargaining powers for unions
Several provisions in the bill include carveouts for big labor, including labor protections, collective bargaining, and organizing, as well as overturning President Trump’s executive orders regarding federal employee unions.

The expansion of wind and solar tax credits.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other politicians specifically called out Democrats for trying to negotiate the expansion of wind and solar tax credits in the bill.

Requirements for federal and corporate gender and racial diversity data

The bill demands that corporate recipients of financial assistance are required to report racial and gender data regarding salaries, number of employees, supplier diversity, and membership on corporate boards. It also requires federal agencies to use businesses and financial institutions owned by minorities or women.

Post Office Bailout
For payment to the ’’Postal Service Fund’’, for revenue forgone due to the coronavirus pandemic, $20,000,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2022: Provided, That such amount is designated by the Congress as being for an emergency requirement pursuant to section 251(b)(2)(A)(i) of the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985.

Automatic extension of nonimmigrant visas.
Rep. Paul Gosar flagged a provision regarding the automatic extension of nonimmigrant visas.(c) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, with respect to any alien whose nonimmigrant status, status under section 244 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1254a), or employment authorization has expired within the 30 days preceding the date of the enactment of this act, or will expire not later than one year after such date, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall automatically extend such status or work authorization for the same time period as the alien’s prior status or work authorization.

Restricting colleges from providing information about citizenship status
(1) INFORMATION.‐Only information requested

On the official 2020 decennial census of population form may be provided to the Bureau of the Census pursuant to this section. No institution of higher education may provide any information to the Bureau on the immigration or citizenship status of any individual.

Money for Planned Parenthood
The Hill reported that Democrats want the bill to prop up Planned Parenthood
...has received federal funding since 1970, when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act. It is sometimes described as the gynecololgical wing of the Democratic party...
, just another reason why bipartisan efforts have failed to reach a consensus.

Science & Technology
FDA eases rules for ventilator production, but hurdles remain
[AXIOS] The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Monday temporarily relaxed certain policy guidelines that could allow manufacturers to produce more ventilators.

Why it matters: Automakers, parts suppliers and other industrial companies have offered to lend their manufacturing expertise in a wartime-like mobilization to combat the global pandemic. But without some easing of the FDA's strict validation process for medical devices, it can't happen.

What's new: The FDA issued new temporary guidelines that would give ventilator manufacturers more flexibility in the design of the machines, the materials used and manufacturing processes to clear existing bottlenecks.

They could, potentially, purchase a different type of motor from an alternate supplier, or use different types of plastic in the ventilator tubes, for example.

"We believe this approach will help manufacturers that want to add production lines or manufacture at alternative sites which may have different manufacturing equipment to increase manufacturing capacity," the FDA said.

President Trump caused confusion Sunday when he tweeted: "Ford, General Motors and Tesla are being given the go ahead to make ventilators and other metal products, FAST!"

Reality check: Carmakers are starting from a standstill, trying to learn about ventilators, who makes them, what their capacity issues are, and how the auto industry can help.

There is no federal orchestration of the process, so companies are leveraging their own networks for information.

Nor is it clear if automakers, whose own businesses are reeling from virus-related shutdowns, will be paid, and by whom.

The most likely scenario: Companies like GM and Ford could use their global scale to lean on suppliers, including raw materials suppliers, to speed delivery of components to ventilator manufacturers.

They could also share high-volume production techniques to maximize output.
Car factories switching to ventilator manufacturing is a long shot, but it could happen down the road.

The big question: Can any of this happen quickly enough to make a difference?

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said New York is days away from running out of ventilators and other medical supplies.

Honeywell, which already makes N95 masks, said Sunday it could take 30 days to start up a new production facility in Rhode Island.

The bottom line: There's a desperate need for medical equipment, and it's not clear how manufacturers will be able to meet the need.

#1  Car makers made guns, bombs and airplane parts from a "standing start" in WW II. Get engineers and production managers that understand the product and go from there. Even companies that already make a line of technical products have a learning curve when they begin to manufacture a newly developed product. I think the expression to "ramp up" production comes from that situation.

#2  Ask owners of Union Switch and Signal or Singer 1911 pistols how they feel about those companies' ability to make a product they were initially unfamiliar with.

#6  Great. Another Ford/Chevy rivalry. I can see it now, "The difference is the Chevy helps you breathe, and a Ford just blows."

#9  Its a running joke in the States.

I think both of their engine compartment layouts are awful and would sooner such the air out of the tires then let them design a ventilator, nevermind the actual retooling the factory, retraining assembly, so forth.

Competition? Competition ceased with Uncle Sam's Grand Bailouts.

No, the manufacturers you want to court are....the people who make tabletop games and figures using 3-D printers. Those people are creative go-getters who get really excited about their projects. Might end up with something closer to a grease gun than a space shuttle, but we just need something to work.

Function software and circuit board manufacturing will be the bottleneck.

#10  Crap. Just realized those manufacturers and designers are non-essential and will be closed for the next 2 months. Guess Big Auto doesn't have to worry about that competition.
