FBI probing crooked de Blasio donor Jona Rechnitz in diamond scam
[NYPOST] Convicted ex-Mayor Bill de Blasio
...cryptocommie mayor of New York and for some reason a Dem candidate for president in 2020. Corrupt and incompetent, his qualifications for office seem to consist of being married to a black woman, with whom he honeymooned in Cuba. He has a preppy-looking son named Dante, whose Divine Comedy involved getting his back hair up when a police car drove past him slowly...
crony Jona Rechnitz ‐ who recently boasted about being a jeweler to the Kardashian family ‐ is facing a new criminal probe from the FBI in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, for allegedly bilking an investor out of millions of dollars, a court filing shows.

Rechnitz, who’s embroiled in a Los Angeles County civil lawsuit for allegedly failing to pay back the investor, is asking for the case to be delayed because he’s now under a criminal investigation for the same matter ‐ and risks incriminating himself if the case moves forward, court records show.

"Forcing Defendants to litigate this matter ‐ knowing that there is a parallel criminal investigation related to the allegations at issue in the Complaint and that Plaintiff’s goal is to enmesh Defendants in criminal prosecution ‐ would force Defendants to choose between exercising their Fifth Amendment rights and defending themselves in this civil action," Rechnitz’s attorneys wrote in a filing late Monday demanding the stay.

They requested an emergency "ex-parte" hearing on the delay scheduled for Tuesday morning after the judge in the case said he couldn’t hear arguments on their request until next February, the filing shows.

The judge is expected to make a ruling Tuesday morning local time.

Rechnitz ‐ the snitch who claimed in federal corruption probes that de Blasio, high-ranking NYPD officials and the head of the Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association all accepted bribes from him ‐ is currently appealing his own 10-month prison sentence for his role in the schemes.

But instead of keeping a low profile while cooling his heels, Rechnitz allegedly swindled an unsuspecting investor, Victor Franco Noval, into loaning him millions of dollars for his jewelry company, Jadelle and Jewelry Diamonds, according to the civil lawsuit against him.

From Coronavirus To Climate Change, The Challenges We Face Call For A Change In Our Culture Of Engineering
More of the usual crap.
[NEWSWEEK] HAYAATUN SILLEM

Engineering in the U.K. has a major diversity deficit. Our workforce is 12 percent female and, despite decades of effort, the proportion of women entering engineering has hardly changed ‐ 7 percent apprentices; 16 percent among undergraduates. In addition, only 9 percent of the engineering workforce are from black and minority ethnic (BAME) groups,
"BAME" is th new "WOG."
which is shocking when you consider that over 30 percent of engineering undergraduates are. In fact there is a marked difference in progression into employment for BAME engineering graduates ‐ you are more than twice as likely to be unemployed six months after graduation if you're from a BAME group than your white counterpart, even taking into account the class of degree you achieved and type of university you went to.

There is now a well-established evidence base for the business benefits of diverse workforces and teams, ranging from productivity to creativity to health and safety to talent retention. But the diversity deficit in U.K. engineering also matters because, whether we realise it or not, engineers shape the world we live in in a profound way ‐ designing and delivering the digital and physical infrastructure that we all rely on, day in day out, as well as developing solutions that will be key to addressing critical challenges we all face, both locally and globally. It is essential that the people undertaking these crucial roles are more reflective of the society they serve.

It is particularly perverse that the U.K. simultaneously faces a severe skills shortage and an unacceptable diversity deficit in engineering: many of the emerging and in-demand jobs identified by the World Economic Forum are engineering jobs, yet every year the U.K. is short of up to 59,000 engineers. There is also good evidence that engineering is a career associated with higher than average salaries and job satisfaction. Unfortunately, the public and online images of engineers that young people are exposed to are dominated by narrow and outdated stereotypes of people, often men, in hard hats and high vis jackets, which simply do not reflect the breadth and variety of modern engineering careers.

#4  "There is now a well-established evidence base for the business benefits of diverse workforces and teams,"

Where is this, exactly? I remember reading that diversity was supposed to advance science research quality, and when I finally tracked down the original paper it claimed far far less than the breathless headlines--the differences were very minor and probably swamped by other considerations.
Amusingly, the study determined ethnicity by last name (first name was a single letter), so the study could say nothing at all about "diversity" as applied to sex or to black Americans.

I want to "Be a Berean" and read the studies for myself.

Hunter Biden cites coronavirus, wife's pregnancy to avoid deposition until after Election Day
[FOXNEWS] Hunter Biden's attorneys have abruptly asked the Arkansas judge in his ongoing paternity case to postpone his scheduled March 11 deposition until after Election Day, saying the coronavirus outbreak, his wife's "imminent due date" and "intense media scrutiny" all pose a risk of "personal endangerment" for the former vice president's son.

Additionally, Biden's legal team argues he should not be held in contempt for failing to turn over a slew of financial documents related to child support. Republicans have said the information could contain damaging evidence of the younger Biden's overseas business dealings and possible corruption.

"Defendant's wife's due date is imminent," Biden's request for continuance reads. "Defendant will supplement this motion as soon as possible with an affidavit of his wife's treating physician."

Additionally, "it is unsafe for the Defendant to travel, as travel restrictions have been implemented both domestically and internationally, particularly on airlines, due to the Coronavirus. Setting aside personal endangerment, Defendant reasonably believes that such travel unnecessarily exposes his wife and unborn child to this virus."

Coverage from various media outlets -- including Fox News, The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

, NPR and The New York Post -- has led to "physical risks and logistics difficulties with travel to Arkansas," the motion continues.

It notes that Biden has already agreed to pay an undisclosed monthly amount of child support, retroactive to November 2018. That agreement came only after Independence County Circuit Court Judge Holly Meyer threatened to hold him in contempt, and led to a brief suspension in contempt proceedings. However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
Meyer emphasized that she still had "insufficient" documentation to determine Biden's financial capacity to support the child.

Virginia Democrats reverse laws protecting Confederate monuments
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Some of Virginia’s scores of Confederate monuments could soon be removed under legislation state politicians approved Sunday.

The Democratic-led House and Senate passed measures that would undo an existing state law that protects the monuments and instead let local governments decide their fate. The bill’s passage marks the latest turn in Virginia’s long-running debate over how its history should be told in public spaces.

The legislation now heads to Gov. Ralph Coonman Northam
...Governor of Virginia, another Dem Great White Hope. He won election by calling his Publican opponent Ed Gillespie a racist, but then, don't they all?...
, who has said he supports giving localities ‐ several of which have already declared their intent to remove statues ‐ control over the issue.

After white supremacists descended on Charlottesville in 2017, in part to protest the city’s attempt to move a statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee, many places across the country quickly started taking Confederate monuments down. But Virginia localities that wanted to remove monuments were hamstrung by the existing law.

In the two legislative sessions that followed the rally, Republican politicians defeated bills like the one that passed Sunday. But Democrats recently took full control of the state house for the first time in a generation.

Dems want to remove Roger Taney bust from Capitol
[WASHINGTONTIMES] House Democrats said Monday they will try to toss the bust of former Chief Justice Roger Taney from the collection in the U.S. Capitol, saying the Maryland jurist’s role in writing the decision in the 1857 Dred Scott ruling makes him unfit for that honor.

The bust sits in the old Supreme Court chambers, now preserved for history, on the ground floor of the Capitol.

House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, Maryland Democrat, said he wants to replace it with one of the late Justice Thurgood Marshall, the first black man to serve on the Supreme Court.

"We’re entering a new era where we are reexamining our history and beginning to look at our history for its good. And also its bad," Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Karen Bass said. "The removal of Chief Justice Taney’s bust is long overdue in our nation’s Capitol."

The Dred Scott decision confirmed that the Constitution did not recognize slaves as U.S. citizens and therefore they could not sue in federal court. It also declared the Missouri Compromise, a deal meant to appease escalating tensions over slavery, unconstitutional, barring Congress from prohibiting slavery in the western territories.

#4  "Real Socialism"(tm) can't be tried because of basic human nature - Power has a tendency to corrupt. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

The writers of our Constitution took that in to account, a government conducted by people who by nature tend towards power and corruption. Separation of power, checks and balances, decentralization as much as possible. You accept inefficiencies and some injustices to preserve liberty and avoid even greater injustices.

#10  We saw it and I noted to my kids at the time as why communism/socialism doesn't work in modern non-communal, non-familial societies. Of course, that opinion was not being taught in their schools and it took this wonderful little film to drive the understanding home.

A human's nature of wanting to better themselves by possession (read good shelter, food, tools etc.) destroys the whole concept of such economic egalitarianism beliefs.

The 'Evil Things' are what everyone wants, but nobody gets, in pure Socialism.
Posted by: Mullah Richard || 03/11/2020 12:12 Comments || Top||

#11  The founders never dreamed of the gaming of the system that lawyers and those of their ilk would do in later years, when they developed the Constitution.

People who game the system and are criminals used to be a few percent, who were considered deviants. Now the deviants are reaching a percentage critical mass.
Posted by: Alaska Paul || 03/11/2020 12:16 Comments || Top||

#12  ...which is why they put in life time appointments for federal judges, noting that 'life' was generally a lot shorter on the average then. What we have learned by practice is that you can not have a republic with one entire branch de facto independent of repeated 'consent of the governed'.
Posted by: Procopius2k || 03/11/2020 14:22 Comments || Top||

#13  P2K, I feel your pain, but I only know of four currently practiced ways to decide who a judge is:
1- Appointment for life of "Article III" federal judges(the Constitution actually says "during good behavior" but whatever)
2- Appointment of "Article I" federal judges for a limited term subject to possible reappointment by a higher court (e.g., federal bankruptcy judges at the end of their term get reviewed by the Court of Appeals in their area, which in turn solicits opinions from lawyers who practice in front of a particular bankruptcy judge
3- Popular election for a limited term, which in the real world means that the judges have to ask for money for their re-election campaigns. And most of that money comes from plaintiffs' lawyers who practice in front of those judges.
4- Appointment by the governor of a state, e.g. Washington State.
Got a preference?

Sleepy Joe snaps at Michigan auto worker over guns, curses at him
DETROIT (Reuters) - U.S. Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden on Tuesday angrily turned on an auto worker at a campaign stop when questioned whether he was going to take away people’s guns.

"You’re full of shit," Biden told the man who accused him of "actively trying to end the Second Amendment."

The former vice president, vying to be the Democrat who will take on President Donald Trump in the Nov. 3 election, later called the unidentified worker a "horse’s ass."

The testy exchange came during a typical election-day voting photo shoot at Detroit’s first new auto assembly plant in decades, serving up another episode of Biden’s propensity for going off script and undercutting his campaign’s desired messaging.

When Biden left the auto plant, owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, videos show some workers shouting "Trump, Trump, Trump."

The flashes of temper are a double-edged sword for Biden because some supporters like his authenticity while his opponents use them to question his mental fitness. Some weeks ago, he called a woman "a lying dog-faced pony soldier" in a moment that went viral.
If you go to a Trump rally, or even just a speech, he's gonna spend at least half his time telling his audience how wonderful they are. Joe's stuck on telling people they're full of shit, Which one's more likely to win the election.
