Book Bombshell: James Biden's Firm Got $1.5 Billion in Government Contracts Despite Zero Experience
[Breitbart] A firm employing James Biden, the younger brother of former Vice President Joe Biden, received more than $1.5 billion in government-backed contracts during the Obama administration.

The dovetailing of James Biden’s professional life with his brother’s political influence are extensively detailed in Breitbart News senior contributor Peter Schweizer’s new book‐Profiles in Corruption: Abuse of Power by America’s Progressive Elite. Schweizer is also the president of the Government Accountability Institute (GAI).

In 2010, shortly after a disastrous attempt at running a hedge fund with his nephew Hunter, James Biden entered the construction and international development industry. Even though he lacked background in either, James secured a position as executive vice president at the newly formed HillStone International, LLC. The firm, which was a subsidiary of the long struggling Hill International, was unique for a multitude of reasons.

"The president of HillStone International was Kevin Justice, who grew up in Delaware and was a longtime Biden family friend," Schweizer writes in his book. "He was friends with lots of Bidens, especially Joe’s sons Hunter and Beau."

Under Justice’s leadership, the company was setting out to pursue technology and construction projects in the Middle East. Of particular interest to the company was the millions being given to government contractors for the rebuilding of war-torn Iraq‐an endeavor Joe Biden was tasked to oversee by President Barack Obama.

It was likely with such projects in mind that Justice headed to the White House in November 2010. During the visit, the HillStone executive met with Michele Smith, a top aide to then-Vice President Joe Biden. Smith, a fellow Delaware native, was serving as the vice president’s liaison to "global government officials and business executives."

Whistleblower Was Overheard in '17 Discussing With Ally How to Remove Trump
[Real Clear Investigations] Barely two weeks after Donald Trump took office, Eric Ciaramella ‐ the CIA analyst whose name was recently linked in a tweet by the president and mentioned by lawmakers as the anonymous "whistleblower" who touched off Trump's impeachment ‐ was overheard in the White House discussing with another staffer how to remove the newly elected president from office, according to former colleagues.

Sources told RealClearInvestigations the staffer with whom Ciaramella was speaking was Sean Misko. Both were Obama administration holdovers working in the Trump White House on foreign policy and national security issues. And both expressed anger over Trump’s new "America First" foreign policy, a sea change from President Obama’s approach to international affairs.

"Just days after he was sworn in they were already talking about trying to get rid of him," said a White House colleague who overheard their conversation.

"They weren’t just bent on subverting his agenda," the former official added. "They were plotting to actually have him removed from office."

Misko left the White House last summer to join House impeachment manager Adam Schiff's committee, where sources say he offered "guidance" to the whistleblower, who has been officially identified only as an intelligence officer in a complaint against Trump filed under whistleblower laws. Misko then helped run the impeachment inquiry based on that complaint as a top investigator for congressional Democrats.

The probe culminated in Trump's impeachment last month on a party-line vote in the House of Representatives. Schiff and other House Democrats last week delivered the articles of impeachment to the Senate, and are now pressing the case for his removal during the trial, which began Tuesday.

The coordination between the official believed to be the whistleblower and a key Democratic staffer, details of which are disclosed here for the first time, undercuts the narrative that impeachment developed spontaneously out of the "patriotism" of an "apolitical civil servant."

Two former co-workers said they overheard Ciaramella and Misko, close friends and Democrats held over from the Obama administration, discussing how to "take out," or remove, the new president from office within days of Trump's inauguration. These co-workers said the president's controversial Ukraine phone call in July 2019 provided the pretext they and their Democratic allies had been looking for.

"They didn't like his policies," another former White House official said. "They had a political vendetta against him from Day One."

Expose2020 Part 3:VERITAS Outs Yet ANOTHER Bernie-Bolshie Gulag Freak: I'll get armed, I want to learn to shoot I'm ready for the f***ing revolution"
Video at the link.
[AmericanThinker] Last week, James O'Keefe's Project Veritas, doing the investigative reporting the media refuses to do when Democrats (or "socialist democrats," AKA Marxists) are involved, uploaded two videos introducing people to Kyle Jurek, a Bernie field organizer in Iowa. Jurek openly supports a communist takeover, dismisses Soviet gulags as mere "re-education camps," and thinks it would be a fine thing to have similar camps in America for Trump-supporters. Jurek also assured the undercover journalist that he was not alone; there are others, he said, who share his goals.

Bernie never commented on the video, nor did his campaign dismiss Jurek.

Today, Project Veritas released a third video proving that Jurek was right when he said he is not an anomaly within the Bernie campaign. Project Veritas's latest video looks at Martin Weissgerber, a South Carolina field organizer for the Sanders campaign. Weissgerber is a red diaper baby who boasts about his Belgian father's participation in the 1968 French civil unrest and bemoans the fact that his mother has to tone down her politics a bit for her work at an NPR affiliate.

Senate approves impeachment trial rules, rejecting witnesses
WASHINGTON (AP) ‐ The U.S. Senate plunged into President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial with Republicans abruptly abandoning plans to cram opening arguments into two days but solidly rejecting Democratic demands for more witnesses to expose what they deem Trump’s "trifecta" of offenses.

The daylong session started Tuesday with the setback for Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell and the president’s legal team, but it ended near 2 a.m. Wednesday with Republicans easily approving the rest of the trial rules largely on their terms. The result is Trump’s historic trial, unfolding amid a watchful public in an election year.

"We have a great case," Trump said as he began his second day at a global economic forum in Davos, Switzerland. He said he thought his legal team was doing a "very good job."

The trial is now on a fast-track with almost no signs of Republican resistance to the actions that led to his impeachment.

"It’s about time we bring this power trip in for a landing," said White House counsel Pat Cipollone, the president’s lead lawyer, lashing out at the House Democrats prosecuting the case.

Hunter Biden must appear in court after missing deadline in child support case
Deadlines and obeying Judge's orders are for little people
[Page Six] Hunter Biden allegedly blew a deadline to hand over financial materials in his child support case ‐ and now must appear in Arkansas court next week and explain why he shouldn't be held in contempt, a judge ruled Tuesday.

The son of former Vice President Joe Biden missed the Jan. 16 deadline to provide discovery, including financial disclosures, in the case brought by a former stripper with whom he has a 17-month-old, according to court documents filed Tuesday.

Lawyers for 28-year-old Lunden Alexis Roberts ‐ who, as The Post exclusively revealed in November, was a stripper at a Washington, DC, club Biden once frequented ‐ said he failed to submit a slew of discovery materials, including his phone number, address and the address of his 32-year-old wife Melissa Cohen Biden, with whom he is expecting his fifth child.

He also allegedly didn't hand in a copy of his 2017 and 2018 tax returns, a list of the companies he owns, a list of all his sources of income and other financial documents.

Biden, 49, must come to Independence County Circuit Court on Jan. 29 and "show cause, if any exists, as to why he should not be held in contempt for any of the alleged violations of this court's orders," Judge Holly Meyer ordered.

Biden has missed two previous court dates.

Jerry Nadler Suggests Having No Impeachment Witnesses Preferable to Hunter Biden Testifying
[PJMEDIA] Democrats are so afraid of Hunter Biden testifying in the impeachment trial of Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
that they would rather have no impeachment witnesses than risk the country hearing his testimony. During an interview on CBS’s "Face the Nation" on Sunday, Nadler said Democrats would not be willing to negotiate on witnesses for the Senate trial. In fact, he suggested that any attempts by the GOP to block or negotiate on witnesses were tantamount to a cover-up.

"Is there any circumstance in which Democrats would consider, for reciprocity, having Hunter Biden come and testify?" asked CBS’s Margaret Brennan.

"You know, the question of witnesses in any trial, in any trial, all relevant witnesses must be heard," replied Nadler. "Whether if‐if you’re accused of robbing a bank, testi‐testimony that I saw him rob the bank or he was somewhere else, he couldn’t have robbed the bank, is admissible. It’s not negotiable whether you have witnesses. And this whole controversy about whether there should be witnesses is just‐is really a question of does the Senate want to have a fair trial or do they‐or are they part of the cover-up of the president? Any Republican senator who says there should be no witnesses or even that witnesses should be negotiated is part of the cover-up."

After that longwinded non-answer, Brennan asked more pointedly, "So, you’re saying no way would Hunter Biden ever be called to testify?"

"Well, I’m saying that Hunter Biden has no knowledge of the accusations against the president," Nadler replied. "Did the president, as we said‐as the evidence shows that he did‐betray his country by conspiring with a foreign country to‐to try to rig the election? Hunter Biden has nothing to say about that. Their‐their asking for Hunter Biden is just more of a smear of Hunter Biden that the president’s trying to get the Ukraine to do."

Rep. Pete Olson endorses Pierce Bush for soon-to-be-vacant Congressional seat in Fort Bend County
[KHOU] Pierce Bush is facing more than a dozen other Republicans in the upcoming primary for Congressional District 22, but he's hoping Monday's endorsement will give him an edge.

It came from retiring Rep. Pete Olson.

Olson says he's backing Bush because he thinks he can win.

Pierce Bush is the grandson of President George H.W. Bush and the nephew of President George W. Bush. And while he only just recently moved into the district he’s hoping to represent, he says he’s no stranger here.

"This is a community I know well," Bush said. "I've had the honor of serving the entire district, not just a portion, and it’s a district that represents what’s best about this entire country."

Bush hopes to serve a huge district that stretches from Fort Bend County to southeast Harris County. It was once considered Republican territory, but now many say it’s up for grabs. Perhaps, going from red to blue.

"I would say that Fort Bend, if not already blue, is clearly more competitive than it’s ever been," KHOU political analyst Bob Stein said.

Murkowski says she’ll vote against impeachment witnesses Tuesday. That’s not her final answer
[ALASKAPUBLIC.ORG] The impeachment trial of President Trump begins Tuesday with a debate over how to proceed. Senate Democrats are expected to push for amendments demanding witnesses. Sen. Lisa Daddy, can I be a senator? Murkowski
... representing K Street ...
told news hounds Saturday in Anchorage that she will vote with Republican leaders against those amendments. But Murkowski says no one should assume she will oppose calling witnesses later.

"People may look at my vote and say, ’Well, I thought she wanted an opportunity to hear from additional people. She had an opportunity to vote on that on Tuesday and she said, no, she was going to table it,'" Murkowski told news hounds Saturday at her office in Anchorage. "Well, the reason I would support a tabling motion is because of the of the very structured process."

Murkowski wants to follow the process established for the impeachment of President Clinton, which would have senators voting on witnesses only after they hear the case presented by House managers and the defense attorneys. She said she’s concerned her initial votes on the procedure will cause confusion on that point.

None of it will play well. you have to wonder how they didn't play out the possibilities before jumping into impeachment on this issue.

Romney pledges 'open mind' ahead of impeachment trial
An open mind is certainly much to be desired. It wouldn’t do for someone as eminent and clever as Mitt Romney to have made up his mind merely based on his dislike of the subject.
[THEHILL] Sen. Willard Mitt Romney, aka Pierre Delecto
...former governor of Massachussetts, the Publican nominee for president in 2012, now Senator from Utah. He is the son of the former governor of Michigan, George Romney, who himself ran for president after saving American Motors from failure, though not permanently. Romney has a record as a successful businessman, heading Bain Capital, and he rescued the 2002 Winter Olympics from the midst of bribery and mismanagement scandals. He is currently a member of the Never Trump Party and is attempting to assume the mantle of the late John McCain...
(R-Utah) said on Monday that he is keeping an "open mind" ahead of President Trump's impeachment trial but reiterated that any decision on witness should wait until mid-trial.

"Deciding whether or not a sitting president should be removed from office is perhaps the most solemn matter that can ever come before the United States Senate. I enter this task with an open mind and a recognition of my solemn responsibility to fulfill my oath," Romney said in a statement to constituents.

Romney added that the allegations included in the two House-passed articles ‐ one accuses Trump of abusing power in his dealings with Ukraine, the second on obstructing Congress during its investigation of those actions ‐ "are extremely serious."

"These allegations demand that the Senate put political biases aside, and make good faith efforts to listen to arguments from both sides and thoroughly review facts and evidence," Romney said.

Romney's statement comes as the Senate's impeachment trial is expected to get underway in earnest on Tuesday when the chamber debates and passes a resolution outlining the rules for the trial.

Both House managers and Trump's legal team would have 24 hours each, spread out over two days, to make their initial arguments, according to the text of the resolution circulated on Monday night.

#5  Interesting (partial) quote from the Mittster yesterday (gives me a glimmer of hope):

"I think the Democrats make a mistake when they cry outrage time and time again. If everything is an outrage, then nothing is an outrage," Romney said.

Good - vote accordingly.

Buttigieg urges Iowa audience to get excited after awkward silence
[NY Post] Former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg elicited a moment of awkward silence during a campaign event in Iowa that’s sparking comparisons to another viral moment during the 2016 election cycle.

While several of his 2020 rivals ‐ including Sens. Bernie Sanders from Vermont, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota ‐ are stuck in Washington, D.C., serving as jurors in the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump, Buttigieg was seizing the opportunity to get face-to-face time with Iowa voters.

"By having better hands guided by better values on those pulleys and levers of American government," Buttigieg told the crowd. "So I’m going to look to you to spread that sense of hope to those that you know."

The candidate took a brief pause, which was met with complete silence by attendees.

"Come on!" Buttigieg exclaimed and awkwardly chuckled, to which the crowd applauded. The moment has sparked comparisons to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who memorably urged his supporters to "please clap" at a campaign event during the 2016 election.

"I really hope we get a 'please clap' moment every four years. Just beautiful," Washington Examiner writer Siraj Hashmi tweeted on Tuesday.

"Wow, Hollywood is *so* out of new ideas they even rebooted 'Please clap,'" screenwriter Eric Haywood quipped.

Klobuchar had a "please clap" moment last year when she had boasted that in each of her elections, she won every congressional district in her state, including that of former Rep. Michele Bachmann, a Republican.

After the audience didn't react to her victories, Klobuchar gave them permission to be excited.

"It's when you guys are supposed to cheer, okay?" Klobuchar grinned, which prompted applause and some laughter.

Back in February 2016, then-GOP candidate Jeb Bush unwittingly became a political trendsetter at a campaign event in New Hampshire.

"I think the next president needs to be a lot quieter but send a signal that we're prepared to act in the national security interest of this country, to get back into the business of a more peaceful world," Bush passionately said, subtly swiping at then-Republican front-runner Donald Trump.

However, like Buttigieg and Klobuchar, the former governor faced a lengthy silence from the crowd.

"Please clap," Bush pleaded, which prompted applause and some cheers.

That isn't just clunky and jingoistic; its a bit awkward like a bad parody, like a greeter ain The Blue Oyster scene.

Occasional-Cortex: All Your Power Are Belong to... ME!!
[PJMedia] It has been clear ever since the creation (and later the fall) of the Soviet Union that socialism is an inherently dictatorial, tyrannical ideology. Only those who worship the state and power want to have anything to do with it. Which is why it makes perfect sense that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a passionate Marxist.

As Madam Tyrant put it herself recently:

AOC to billionaires:

To be ethical you need to give up control and power. So I don’t want your money as much as we want your power. The people, not me.

#4  ..the problem is that the law is 'interpreted' by an aristocracy that sits for life and is unaccountable to the people. Amazing how they strike down state and local laws as vague but seem to find incredible nuances in the text of our Constitution.
