-Short Attention Span Theater-
Obama to 'Pardon' Thanksgiving Turkeys
[An Nahar] President Barack Obama
We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us...
will symbolically "pardon" two turkeys Wednesday on the eve of the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, in what has become an annual White House rite.
They do this every year. They probably have since the Taft administration. I don't think T. Roosevelt was squeamish about carrying out the sentence on the birds.
The two birds, named "Caramel" and "Popcorn," will have their 15 minutes of fame in the White House Rose Garden where they will win a reprieve from the "leader of the free world" before dozens of news hounds and photographers.
I wonder if the news hounds will use official White House pics of the turkeys...
Besides which, they didn't do anything to be "pardoned" for. I guess they need a reprieve, but a pardon wouldn't seem to apply.
The White House is holding a popularity contest on Facebook to see which of the two should be designated the "National Thanksgiving Turkey."
I kinda wonder what's happened to all those birds that have been pardoned reprieved every year since the Taft administration? They have a ten year life span, so there should be ten or twenty of them strutting around still, unless they're quietly done in for Christmas Festivus dinner.
Both will then be driven to Mount Vernon, George Washington's historic mansion just south of Washington where they will be on display for visitors through Christmas.
I've been to Mount Vernon. I didn't see ten or twenty aging turkeys stomping around the grounds.
Obviously you went after Christmas Festivus...

#6  Questions come to mind:
1) Is this a full pardon or merely a postponement for a year?
2) Will he also be pardoning the Obamacare website?

Democratic State Senator Quits in Backlash Over Colorado Gun Vote
DENVER — A populist backlash against Colorado’s new gun-control laws claimed its third political casualty on Wednesday as a Democratic state senator resigned her seat rather than face a recall vote that could have cost her party control of the chamber.

For Democrats in this swing state, the resignation of the senator, Evie Hudak, was a sign of the growing political cost of their votes last winter to expand background checks and limit the size of ammunition magazines — measures once hailed as breakthrough victories in the effort to respond to mass shootings.

In September, two prominent gun-control supporters were ousted in recall elections, reducing the Democrats’ edge in the State Senate to one seat. Ms. Hudak, who represents the suburbs northwest of Denver, would have been the third to face a recall vote, and she and state Democrats acknowledged that neither she nor the party’s 18-17 majority was likely to survive it.

#1  Ms. Hudak’s decision averts another potentially humiliating recall vote and allows a panel of county Democrats to choose her temporary successor, ensuring that Republicans cannot immediately take control of the Senate and force vulnerable Democrats into uncomfortable votes to repeal the gun laws or new regulations on rural electricity providers.

Power! Screw representative government. How Donkish.

That's wrong, she should walk away, And the PEOPLE select another representative, NOT the Democrats get to select.

#6  I kicked a few bucks to her recall campaign, even though I live in SoCal. I'm sad that she was able to resign and save the Denver/Boulder Dem hegemony and not get her ugly arrogant mug rubbed in a successful recall.

#7  Nothing in this article conveys just how nasty the anti-recall shock troops were, the personal attacks on volunteers, the intimidation and lies funded by out of state deep pockets. This is not democracy. It's one step shy of open revolution. That's what it took to unseat one of these apparatchiks, and even after all that the machine stays in power.

'Non-partisan' group paid $1 million to produce positive Obamacare stories

#1  Families USA's non-partisan status begins to fade slightly when their actual funding source is examined. The 'Robert Wood Johnson Foundation' [RWJF] certainly is not non-partisan. FLOTUS is well acquainted with the Foundation's President (who appears to be a wealthy democrat and physician).

#2  rebranding effort? It's a only a matter of rebranding? It's the Edsel but far worse because the govmint is involved. These people think you only have to sell this $hit like soap and what can't be sold can be forced on people with the help of SCOTUS. The product is a dud and the people who put it out there need to be fired--all of them--in 2014 and 2016. I guess they were so successful in selling Champ, they thought they could sell anything.

Labor Relations Board OKs unions paying people to protest Walmart
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] National Labor Relations Board lawyers okayed a major union's practice of paying people to protest against Walmart in a legal memorandum earlier this month. The federal labor law enforcement agency said the practice of paying workers $50 apiece to join protests "did not constitute unlawful ... coercion of employees."

In a Nov. 15 memorandum from the NLRB's general counsel office regarding the so-called "Black Friday" protests staged by United Food and Commercial Workers against the nonunion retailer last year, the NLRB lawyers determined that the UFCW's offer of $50 gift cards to anyone who showed up to protest "was a non-excessive strike benefit."

The lawyers said there was "no evidence to indicate that the gift card was meant to buy support for OUR Walmart" since the card was available not just to the retailer's employees but to anyone who showed up at the unions' protests.
