Election Day open thread
A thread to talk about our experiences today, track vote results, and share interesting articles so that Rantburg’s article count doesn’t explode. I put this on P.6: Seedy Politics because I suspect we’ll see some of that today, though I hope not as much as some might have planned — it seems Homeland Security has advised law enforcement to stay in their toes today. I’ll start:

DecisionDesk HQ Battleground Race Scorecard

PJ Media’s Liveblog is mostly covering the election today.

#1  There was a lone democratic operative just outside of the no canvassing zone with sign asking to talk to him if you had trouble voting. Sort of looked like the may tag repairman. I think the funniest amendment here in Fl was one that would both ban offshore drilling and indoor vaping. I will put odds that it passes and then people go WTF!

#2  Voted this morning at 0714. We go to an elementary school. People were as usual polite and considerate. Temperature was +7F.

#4  Just came back from the township hall. Lots of people but they were moving them thru fast so only a few minutes wait. Paper ballots. A mix of young and old voters on a gray and rainy day.

#5  The text messages from the DNC folks to my phone (who they obviously believe is someone else) are getting really frantic for some reason.

Remember, I don't block them. I like to know what they're doing.

Time will tell.

#7  I live in a Purple enclave (college town) in the Red State of Oklahoma... Amusing to see the Democratic candidate for governor's campaign signs... No Donkey, just a "Star! and Vote for Me!" Voters at 2PM mostly older types...

#9  I voted when the polls opened at 7 AM. No one under 40 was in line. One poll worker was a 20 something young lady. Seemed excited to be there.

#10  Butler County, Ohio, which is solid Republican territory. Our Democrats were among the first to try running a veteran for office, back in 2006, if I recall correctly, but even that wasn’t enough. Outside the polling place there was a solitary Republican handing out cheat sheets for the voters — the Democrats didn’t even bother to show up this year, though they’re usually there.

Mr. Wife reported no line at all at 2 p.m. I had one before me when I arrived, five waiting when trailing daughter #1 and I left. Newest daughter voted by mail over the weekend, because she is in the hospital being gotten healthy enough for thoracic surgery — we’re hoping for later this week. The polling place was calm and orderly, with no protesters outside, and cheerful faces inside.

Trailing daughter #2 voted this morning, commenting it was heartening to see how many were waiting when the polling place opened in Plano (Dallas), Texas.

#11  We have Accuvote card stock for our ballots. We fill in the bubbles with a pen and there is a lot of room between bubbles, so you would have to be seriously out of control to hit another bubble.

Accuvote ballots are put in an optical reader and tallied. In a pinch, you can hand tally, with always a paper backup. Common sense and simple.

#12  North Texas. Community College. Lots of young people on the campus I would assume, but none in the long line. Mostly over 40 at 3PM. Lots of crew cuts and nary a man-bun in sight. Buncha kids with BETO! signs kind of hanging out, across from the larger "Keep Texas Strong Vote Republican" cowd, and Ted Cruz people and other people on the other side of the sidewalk. The GOP state senate candidate was there shaking hands in person. Chatted with one of the GOP people, said they had a great turnout up here, but they were a bit worried about down by Houston (Dem area). Said north of Dallas (dep red) was setting a GOP record with turnout. Lets hope its enough.

#13  Here in Washington State we vote-by-mail so I dropped off our ballots at the ballot box. They had a climate change item which gave 10% of the tax to the tribes... who are exempt for paying the tax.

#14  Sherrod Brown (D-unions) is now making his acceptance speech —incumbent senator for Ohio, though we’re still looking at projections. But it looks like much else will be Republican.

#17  NBC just called the Senate for the Republicans at 50 seats plus Vice President Pence.

NBC is also calling the House for the Democrats, calling an estimated 229 seats to 206.

Ohio: Republicans won governor, attorney general, auditor, secretary of state, and treasurer with over 70% of precincts reporting.

And my representative, elected to replace John Boehner, was re-elected.

#23  With 83% reporting, appears Kemp leads Abrams 53.3% to 45.8% in the Ga. gubernatorial. Absolutely appalling that she's that close.

In the congressional; Pennsylvania and Michigan still not happy with 'Trump created' jobs (reopened steel mills, coal mines) and booming economy. Nothing can convince them to vote republican. Sad, very sad.

Obama closes out campaign by talking about himself 89 times during Chicago appearance
[American Mirror] Barack Obama is ending the midterm campaign by the way he started: Talking about himself.

A lot.

During a Sunday appearance in Chicago, the former president referred to himself no fewer than 89 times during a roughly 46-minute speech.

"First of all, you notice my throat is a little iffy," Obama began, lamenting about the amount of campaigning he’s been doing this season.

Noting he was trying to sing backstage with an opening act, Obama said, "I realize now I’m not a professional singer."

Being back in Chicago, he said, "I have some amazing friends I haven’t seen in a while."

He couldn’t help but talk about his own election a decade ago, saying it was 10 years to the night that he had "a small event in Grant Park, and you had just elected me the 44th President of the United States."

"The victory didn’t belong to me, it belonged to you," he claimed.

Recalling his time in office, he said Republicans left him a mess, "And I had to grab a broom."

Talking about a previous campaign stop earlier in the day, he said, "I was telling some folks in Gary (Indiana), you know, Michelle come home and I’m like, doing the dishes. And Michelle be like, and I’m like, look honey, I’m doing the dishes. And she went ’Boy, you haven’t done the dishes in a month. What did you do wrong?’ Cause she knows I’m trying to put some spin on something."

Maxine Waters: Violent Protests ‘Make America Better', Republicans Should ‘Feel Uncomfortable'
[Townhall] Over the weekend, California Representative Maxine Waters once again defended her public statements encouraging her supporters to harass and assault their political opponents in mobs. During a Saturday appearance on the "Roland Martin Unfiltered" web show, Waters insisted that such protests "make America better" because protestors are fighting for "justice and equality for everybody."

Rather than deny that she has been encouraging violent behavior against Republicans, Waters justified such tactics by claiming that the very nature of protests is to make their targets "feel uncomfortable":
"I told someone the other day who is trying to say that we are violent when we protest: Protest is about making you feel uncomfortable. I’m not supposed to come to you and say: May I protest you?

[Roland Martin and staff laugh]

"No! Absolutely not. If your heart tells you that this is what you need to do because you see some injustice ‐that you see people who are creating, you know, a terrible time and pain for others ‐ and you want to protest to try and make change, to try and make it right, then speak what your heart is telling you to do."

Waters continued by lauding her concept of protests as a patriotic tradition and expression of American identity that has made our country a better place over the years:

Armed Black Panthers Lobby for Democrat Gubernatorial Candidate Stacey Abrams
[BREITBART] Breitbart News has obtained photographs of members of the New Black Panther Party wielding weapons and holding signs supporting Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, a leftist who hopes to be the first black female governor in Georgia.

This comes on the heels of Oprah Winfrey’s visit to the state on Abrams behalf where she said the Democrat refuses to allow the sacrifices of those who were "lynched" and "oppressed" to be "in vain."

The photos show the men, dressed all in black, with the Black Panther logo on their clothing and holding weapons.

Abrams opponent, Republican Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, will be the focus of a rally today in Georgia where President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
will be stumping on his behalf.

Yes, but all of them are displaying American Army Cool trigger discipline, which means significantly fewer accidental firings at innocent bystanders. I’m so pleased the idea that cool gun holders keep their trigger blatantly away from the trigger has spread around the world. Seriously, I’ve been noticing that in photos of jihadis for some years now.
