Pelosi's husband finally charged in DUI case
[Hot Air] A couple of weeks ago, we learned that Paul Pelosi, the husband of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, had gotten into a minor automobile accident and was subsequently suspected of having been driving while under the influence. At the time, very few details were being released by law enforcement and it wasn’t clear if he would even be charged with anything, despite reportedly having a blood-alcohol level above 0.8. I questioned at the time whether the Napa DA would really consider giving him a pass because of his famous family connections. It turns out that they were just making sure that they had dotted all of the i’s and crossed all of the t’s. This week, Mr. Pelosi was charged with two counts related to the incident, and he might even have to do some time in jail for it. (NY Post)

#1  Nancy says this is a "private matter" as if indictments are not public matters.

#2  The case is filed as a misdemeanor and it will now disappear into the memory hole called California Political Aristocracy Special Needs Case Management.
Note the guy Pelosi hit has asked for the privacy protection. Curiously, he may be seeing retirement opportunities in the near future. It is also alleged that Pelosi showed the ID card of his organization 11-99 Foundation. The 11-99 Foundation provides financial assistance and scholarships to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers and their families.

There were statements on social media that California Governor stepped in to help Paul and that a Sheriff had reached the scene of the crash but left the scene after ensuring that no one was injured.
Curious, since the following excerpt from the Napa County Sheriff's Office Policy and Procedures Manual states in part:
"'Napa County Sheriff's Office
Napa County SO Policy Manual
Traffic Collision Reporting
Copyright Lexipol, LLC 2022/02/01, All Rights Reserved.
Published with permission by Napa County Sheriff's Office
Traffic Collision Reporting - 430
501.4.5 TRAFFIC COLLISIONS ON ROADWAYS OR HIGHWAYS
Traffic collision reports shall be taken when they occur on a roadway or highway within the
jurisdiction of this department where we have traffic enforcement authority under any of the
following circumstances:
(a) When there is a death or injury to any persons involved in the collision
(b) When a Hit and Run occurs (Vehicle Code § 20002)
(c) When a report is requested by any involved driver"

Almost like the SO wanted to avoid the accident investigation as soon as it leaned the ID of the parties involved, despite injury.

Napa DA Press Release in part:
" The charges filed today include Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Causing Injury and Driving With .08% Blood Alcohol Level or Higher Causing Injury. Under California law, these charges can be filed as a misdemeanor or felony. Based upon the extent of the injuries suffered by the victim, the District Attorney filed misdemeanor charges. This decision is consistent with how our office handles these cases with similar injuries. The punishment for driving under the influence causing injury as a misdemeanor is set by California law. It includes up to five years of probation, a minimum of five days in jail, installation of an ignition interlock device, fines and fees, completion of a court ordered drinking driver class, and other terms as appropriate. Mr. Pelosi was released from custody upon his promise to appear for an arraignment in Napa County Superior Court on August 3, 2022. The court date was selected by the Napa County Department of Corrections at the time of Mr. Pelosi’s release. The survivor in this matter has exercised his rights under the California Constitution Article 1, section 28(b) as amended by “Marsy’s Law” to be treated with fairness and respect for his privacy and dignity, and to be free from intimidation, harassment and abuse throughout the criminal process. We ask that all members of the media honor the exercise of his right. Evidence in a filed criminal case, including but not limited to: witness testimony, medical diagnoses, photographs, and body/dashboard camera video are properly presented to a court or a jury. The District Attorney’s Office cannot ethically release these items to the public under the California Rules of Professional Conduct. Prosecutors in California are specifically prohibited from making any public disclosure that will or could prejudice the defendant’s ability to secure a fair trial. An attorney who violates the Rules of Professional Conduct is subject to private or public reprimand, suspension or
disbarment. "

#3  Yeah, and we only just learned (well, I just learned) that another individual was injured.

It is a bit old, but it's still valid: just imagine if this had been a Trump relative or some other big-shot GOP'er. We'd never hear the end of it.

I'm sure the Pelosi's will just cash in some of their recent insider stock purchases and make a "Miscellaneous" entry somewhere.

#4  ^^ Plus, she probably has a judge/DA (or 2/3/4/...) in that district that owe her multiple favors.

#5  Regarding Pelosi's mug shot, it didn't have a side view nor the height ruler behind him while holding his booking number.
Just more special treatment

#6  Don't forget that test was after 4+ hours. If he was still legally drunk he must have been absolutely shitfaced when he ran that stop sign.

Prosecutors Who Won't Enforce Anti-Abortion Laws
This is a statement by 82 prosecutors who say they won't prosecute violations of state anti-abortion laws 'cause they don't like 'em. The Profiles In Courage Award goes to Multnomah County (Portland) DA Mike Schmidt, who signed the statement even though he works in a jurisdiction where there are no anti-abortion laws to enforce.
[FAIRANDJUSTPROSECUTION] We are a group of elected prosecutors representing communities across every region of the country. Over the past few years, we have watched with increasing concern as the constitutional right to abortion has been threatened and eroded. Now, the Supreme Court’s decision to end the federally protected constitutional right to abortion first established five decades ago in Roe v. Wade — a right that three generations of Americans have come of age relying upon — means that abortions will immediately or soon be banned, and potentially criminalized, in at least half of our nation’s states.

As elected prosecutors, ministers of justice, and leaders in our communities, we cannot stand by and allow members of our community to live in fear of the ramifications of this deeply troubling decision.

Not all of us agree on a personal or moral level on the issue of abortion. But we stand together in our firm belief that prosecutors have a responsibility to refrain from using limited criminal legal system resources to criminalize personal medical decisions. As such, we decline to use our offices’ resources to criminalize reproductive health decisions and commit to exercise our well- settled discretion and refrain from prosecuting those who seek, provide, or support abortions.

Prosecutors are entrusted with immense discretion. With this discretion comes the obligation to seek justice. And at the heart of the pursuit of justice is the furtherance of policies and practices that protect the well-being and safety of all members of our community.

Prosecutors make decisions every day about how to allocate limited resources and which cases to prosecute. Indeed, our communities have entrusted us to use our best judgment in deciding how and if to leverage the criminal legal system to further the safety and well-being of all, and we are ethically bound to pursue those interests in every case.

Enforcing abortion bans runs counter to the obligations and interests we are sworn to uphold. It will erode trust in the legal system, hinder our ability to hold perpetrators accountable, take resources away from the enforcement of serious crime, and inevitably lead to the retraumatization and criminalization of victims of sexual violence.
So, prosecutors get to veto acts of the state legislatures if they disagree with the acts. Perhaps they could at least give us a list of criminal statutes they will enforce. Is armed robbery still, like, a bad thing?
The list of signatures at the end of the document is probably a one-for-one match with the list of Soros foundation grantees. Worth scanning to see if you know any of them and can vote them out in November, dear Reader.

#1  I believe that as the court handed the issue back to the states, this too becomes a state issue. I'm sure the usual suspects (CA, NY, IL, WA, OR) will let it play. I suspect that in other states the legislature will enact laws for the removal of such people from office for what amounts to 'delectation of duty'.

Yes. State laws yet to be written and intending to regulate abortion, in the near future, could easily include language like that.
Jury nullification I foresee will pop up in possible trials of violators. What we are seeing in this article could be called "prosectorial nullification".

#3  In attempting to remake America in their mental image, our Progressive multi-billionaires set up the dominoes that are now being knocked down, one after another.

This sure looks like a tipping point to me.

#4  I like how a week ago anyone who owned a gun is very icky, and now they are like, "go get a gun we have murdering to do."

And how many episodes of Insurrection USA and now be, "Storm the Capitals!"

#5  ^ We've been conducting an expensive social experiment for the last two or three years, and the results of the experiment are now in: Even very liberal voters don't like being beaten, robbed, and carjacked. Portland's Schmidt is not yet eligible for recall, but that day is coming, as it did for his pal Boudin.
Posted by: Matt || 06/25/2022 13:40 Comments || Top||

#6  Boudin may have been "recalled" but I can find no news article that states he has actually left his position as DA.

#9  ^ There's a legitimate debate to be had, and that is being had, about the scope of prosecutorial immunity.

LAPD officers prevent the group of pro-abortion protesters from proceeding on a street

#1  The LAPD maintaining civil order? That is certainly a newsworthy event. Even more so given that abortion is such a sacred cow for the Left.

#2  /\ The polling on the 'Law & Order' issue must be catastrophically bad
Posted by: magpie || 06/25/2022 11:16 Comments || Top||

#3  Instead of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, the Left is working for Death, Slavery and the Pursuit of Misery.
Posted by: Bubba Lover of the Faeries8843 || 06/25/2022 11:59 Comments || Top||

#4  LAPD is not to be confused with LA Mayor Eric Garcetti or LA County DA George Gascon. Los Angeles may not be completely down the drain yet. Besides, mid terms are rapidly approaching and riots are not the greatest optics for a Democrat Party that is about to be clobbered at the polls.
