Arson suspected in fire at Palin's church
An overnight fire at Gov. Sarah Palin's church caused an estimated $1 million in damage, and investigators say it could be the work of an arsonist.

Firefighters were called to Wasilla Bible Church about 9:40 p.m. Friday and found flames and smoke coming out windows at the back of the three-story structure, said James Steele, chief of the Central Mat-Su Fire Department. Five women were inside the church working on crafts, and possibly two children, but everyone escaped unharmed after a fire alarm alerted them to trouble, Steele said.

It was a major fire, the biggest the department has seen this year, and Steele said volunteer firefighters from across the region came to fight the blaze. As many as 35 to 40 people responded, he said.

Firefighters had to tear open wall spaces in the metal building to snuff out hotspots and were on the scene until after 5 a.m. today, Steele said.

"We are definitely treating it as suspicious and as potential arson at this point," he said. Steele declined to provide details on why investigators believe the fire might have been set deliberately, or whether accelerants were found on the scene.

The building is worth between $4 million and $5 million, and sustained an estimated $1 million in damage, he said.

A task force has been formed to investigate including people from the state fire marshal's office, the Central Mat-Su Fire Department, the Wasilla Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The Anchorage Fire Department also sent out an investigator.

#1  Funny, the msm made damn sure to tell the world that Governor Palin flew the Israeli Flag in the Governors Office, that Wasilla Bible Church goers were Zionist in a manner, inclined if you will. I was hard pressed to understand the instantaneous fury with which the Governor was met until I saw a Washington Post article providing this information soon after the Governors VP candidacy was announced. Hate is what's bringing us to our knees, don't think otherwise.

Besides smartly creased OD cargo pants, bulging black ATF parkas, caps, and hourly reports e-mail back to DC, the ATF contribution will be....?

#4  All fires are treated as crime scenes until a cause is established. That's normal. It's probably standard procedure to call ATF if there's evidence of a bomb--or at least until the use of a bomb is ruled out.

Arabia
"A Day Without a Gay"......Arab style
Is the punishment decreed for homosexuals mentioned in the Qur’an? Please give references.

(S. Abd Al-Raheem)

No punishment is mentioned in the Quran for homosexuality, but it is treated as one of the worst crimes against Islamic morality. Islam is indeed very serious in matters of social morality. Therefore, fornication and adultery are considered very serious offences and strict punishments are prescribed for them, when certain conditions apply. Homosexuality is viewed as even more ghastly than adultery. The way the Qur’an speaks about Lot’s people, who were the first to practice this heinous offence, leaves no doubt as to how it should be viewed in Islamic society.

The fact that no specific punishment is mentioned in the Qur’an does not mean that this offence can go unpunished when it is proven. Islamic legislation is taken from two main sources: the Qur’an and the Sunnah, which includes the statements and practices of the Prophet. The Prophet ordered the death penalty for anyone who is guilty of this crime. He is quoted as saying: “If you find someone doing what Lot’s people used to do, then kill both partners.” (Related by Abu Dawood, Al-Tirmidhi, Al-Nassaie and Ibn Majah). He is also reported to have cursed such offenders in clear terms.

Scholars have different views on how a sodomist should be punished. However, the overwhelming majority are of the view that the death penalty applies, even though they differ as to the method of execution. Whichever method is chosen, the punishment should be one that provides a deterrent so that this offence is viewed in its true colors: a stark aggression against human decency, morality and God’s creation.

I'm not going to join into any gay-bashing here. Gays are honorable people just like you and me. If you want to think of gays in the way the weirdos in SF exist fine, but the real world is different.

#6  Steve,
Are you a veteran? Have you ever served aboard a ship, especially a submarine? The quarters are very close. There is very little room for privacy. I would hate to take a shower knowing the guy next to me is looking at me with lust in his mind.
I have no problem with gays as people. Serving in the military is different.
Posted by: Rambler in Virginia || 12/14/2008 12:33 Comments || Top||

#7  Steve

There are at least problems with gays in military:

1) People banging instead of doing what they are supposed to do. There are have been several cases of this in mixed sex units. Do you want to introduce another source of problems?

2) Peace of mind. In the military there are too many opportunities where you have to be naked in front of other men for feeling confortable if one of them is gay.

3) Passional conflicts. In case you wonder why having an affair with the wife of another service man gets you expelled from the army (or do you go to jail instead?) it is because this can lead to fragging or to rival (and all his unit) being sent into a suicide mission. Now envision a gay who feels frustrated because he has been rebuked and he has authority on the rebuker or his lover...

4) Favoritism or mutual support to egt promoted

5) Rapes.

#8  General Powell said this past week

General Powell, ret. says many things. Fortunately, he no longer is in a position to enforce his desires.

There been homosexuals in the armed services since time immemorial. Like heterosexuals, this should only be a problem when they make themselves obnoxious. In civilian life, likewise, sexual proclivities of any sort become an issue when forced upon the awareness of others, exactly as outlined by JFM and Rambler.

To return to the article at the top of the thread, we in the civilized world do not believe that sexual activities between willing participants, that cause no harm, should be treated as a mortal crime.

Why break it?

And before anyone drags out that false analogy, this is unlike race, in that its not mere skin color, but behavioral.

#14  Abu - looks like an old M48-A1 painted pink and dolled up. Still doesn't change the fact that a PRACTICING homosexual in the military is both a security hazard and a personnel hazard. I've known dozens I've suspected of being gay, and most were good people that did good work. At the same time, I've seen homosexual behavior tear a unit apart. I'm not willing to say "kill all homos", but I AM willing to agree that they have no place in the military and still practice their lifestyle.

The same goes for churches. Jesus said, "Go, and sin no more". That means giving up sinful behavior, which homosexuality is considered. A practicing homosexual has not repented his sin, and refuses to change his lifestyle. I wouldn't want one to be a member of my congregation, much less trying to LEAD it.

Mr. Cao Goes to Washington
Our story so far: Anh Cao is the son of a Vietnamese Army officer imprisoned by the Communists after the fall of Saigon; arrives in the US at age 8; starts with a political warchest of $5,000; and beats one of the most entrenched politicos in the Democratic party, "Cold Cash""Dollar Bill" Jefferson. Is this a great country or what?

3 Acid Attackers Shot Dead
In a new turn in the case involving acid attack on two engineering girl students, police have shot dead the three accused boys, claiming the police party was attacked by them.

The main suspect Srinivas and accomplice Sanjay and Harikrishna were shot dead when they allegedly attacked the police party which went to recover a motor cycle used by them in the incident at Mavunoor on Friday night, district Superintendent of Police Sajjanar said.

The police action comes in the wake of a huge public outcry over the acid attack in which the faces of the two girls were disfigured and they were in a critical condition.

Two police officials were suspended on Friday for failing to act promptly on a complaint by the father of one of the girls who is battling for life after being subjected to acid attack by a jilted lover in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh.

On Friday, home minister K Jana Reddy was gheraoed by angry activists of women organisations when he visited the private hospital where Swapnika, a final year B Tech student and her friend are undergoing treatment.

Swapnika and Pranitha were injured when Srinivas threw acid while they were going home on a bike last on Wednesday.

Blasphemous bras
I usually wear a BH --booby holder as Indonesians call it -- during my walks because I don't want to scandalize the neighborhood: it's cold in the morning, and without a bra, my T-shirt makes it clear that my highbeams are on. And what's more, my house is only a few hundred meters from Jakarta's border with the district of Tangerang, whose bylaws have imposed criminal sanctions on women who do not cover up the aurat, those parts of our bodies that need to be covered to prevent men from getting horny (I mean, it makes sense that it's our fault, right?).

OK, fine, so what's the problem with me modestly donning my sports bra? Answer: Now there's also a fatwa against bras! Bras? Why on earth would bras be considered blasphemous? Well, the reasoning of our revered clerics is that bras fool men into thinking that a woman's breasts are bigger than they really are, so it's a kind of fraud. I stood in my driveway, frozen by indecision. Bra on or off?

I couldn't help thinking that these bra-fatwa-issuing clerics obviously haven't had much to do with boobies.

The growing conservatism among hardline Muslims in Malaysia, Indonesia and other parts of the world suggests some Muslim leaders want to halt modernity, even turn it back. And if they can't make the world get in line with their regressive fantasies, then they want to destroy it. They share this with their more extreme terrorist brothers (and a few suicidal sisters), as we have seen again and again in recent years, most recently in Mumbai.

It starts with a few ridiculous fatwas. Do we want it to end in more mindless, tragic massacres? Surely it is past time for all Indonesians who believe Islam can be a religion of the modern world to start saying no to this nonsense while it is still a laughing matter.

Bra-very is what we need, to fight destructive and divisive fanaticism and fundamentalism!

#1  This is so idiotic as to be laughable. But , it's very important. Once women start to realize the idiocy of the Islamos and start to reject their half-assed pronouncements, the end will be in sight.
