[Sandboxx] Everyone that’s worn a uniform knows Chili-Mac is the best MRE in the military, but you might be surprised to know that its history dates all the way back to the turn of the 20th century.
Soft, floury elbow noodles smothered in tomato sauce and ground beef goodness. It’s an entree that has graced American tables for over a century. While a childhood mainstay for many of us whose mothers’ idea of gourmet cooking was informed by casserole culture and Hamburger Helper recipe books, it is perhaps a dish most popular among U.S. service members.
Added to the Meals-Ready-to-Eat menu in 1995, this staple has developed something of a cult following over the years. But where, you might wonder, did it originate?
In 1914, goulash entered the annals of American cuisine, believed to be a slum-food whose origins lie in Hungary.
Early military iterations of the meat-and-sauce-over-pasta-dish go as far back as 1916, under the moniker of "American Chop Suey" — a bastardization of a Chinese dish that typically consists of rice, meat, vegetables and a thick cornstarch sauce. In that year, the 1916 Manual for Army Cooks featured a dish called Chop Suey Stew. The 1932 Navy cookbook also featured a version of the soupy delight.
As the years passed, the dish changed. The original recipe was desired for its cheapness and flexibility, and it could be made simply with elbow macaroni, onions and beef and a hearty tomato sauce. But the rest is up to the chef. In addition to including any vegetables you can muster, the mac can also be served instead over ziti, rigatoni or bowtie pasta.
There is also a rumor that the dish as we know it entered the zeitgeist when a small restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, served a casserole that put chili-mac on the map.
Italian immigrant Teresa Marzetti purportedly opened a series of restaurants between 1919 and 1940, with the third and final one landing on Broad Street. One of her most prized dishes, which was named for Marzetti’s brother-in-law, became known as a pasta dish called "Johnny Marzetti."
Others, however, believe chili-mac is tied to Cincinnati Chili, which, while also originating in Ohio, has its roots not in Italy, but Greece. Slavic-Macedonian brothers, John and Tom Kiradjieff, immigrated to Ohio in 1921 and began selling a hotdog topper called saltsa kima. A greek bolognese sauce, the saltsa kima became the basis for what would eventually be dumped over pasta to create Cincinatti Chili.
There’s no doubt that Cincinnati’s dish is what put chili on the map, not Johnny Marzetti. But other states have tried to lay claim to the stewed topping, including Texas and California.
However, the proof is in the menu as to where the moniker for everyone’s most beloved MRE derived: The Kirajleff’s restaurant, the Empress, began serving chili on top of spaghetti, calling it "chili mac" in 1922, according to Dann Woellert, author of "The Authentic History of Cincinnati Chili."

We all know Pork Patty was the MRE to rule them all. No other MRE was so venerated that the receivers would happily bribe others to enjoy it's mighty blessing.
Sadly my Pork Patty MREs were always secretly replaced by ham slice or diced turkey with gravy (breakfast of champions) during my years in ROTC.

Wasn't available when I was in. Just avoid the Chicken-a-la-puke and the Corned beef trash MREs. They were disgusting. Not as bad as the Frankfurters though.

Ah, Pork Patty. A Marine told me that in Desert Storm they threw a 'mystery meat patty' to a starving Saudi dog and it proceeded to bury it. Religious sentiment, obviously.

A group of pro-abortion Amazon employees filed a public letter to the company Tuesday in which they demanded the online retailer cease any and all business in pro-life states, according to reports.
The letter, first leaked via Twitter account Libs of TikTok, was addressed to "Amazon leadership" and requested the retail giant aggressively rebuke the Supreme Court's decision.
"We, the undersigned, come to you today to request immediate and decisive action against the threat to our basic human rights with the overturning of Roe v. Wade," the letter began. "As part of Amazon's wide-reaching efforts toward a more inclusive and diverse workforce, we believe that Amazon cannot let this recent decision go unanswered. We ask Amazon, the world's best employer, to actively defend against this assault on our liberty."
Most notably, the letter demanded Amazon cease conducting business in states that have or intend to pass laws limiting or outlawing abortion.
We'll see what happens. I doubt anything will happen. If anything does, it'll be that these workers would be fired for misuse of company time and resources. Elon Musk's SpaceX employees demanded he cave to their demands not so long ago. He fired all of them. I don't think Bezos will do that. He's too busy. He'll let these clowns have their moment, and then it's time to get back to work.

...The best part here is that Jeff Bezos may be as liberal as it gets...but when it comes to his paycheck, he's as conservative as John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and Cornelius Vanderbilt all rolled into one.
My guess is that these folks will be told very quietly to sit down and shut up or ignored...and if they don't, then there will be a very Musk-like termination, pour encourager les autres.
So the stronker than men feminists have something not even concerning them not go their way, and overnight they are so jiggly tits they can't handle life?

As significant as the gun control and abortion decisions are, to me the big enchilada is tomorrow, when the Court is expected to rule in West Virginia vs. EPA, which gives the Court the opportunity to castrate the administrative state. Double-Maximum Vapors if that happens.

I doubt Justice Thomas is affected by this stuff, but on the whole it is not a great idea for the left to be running around saying "Eff Clarence Thomas" while the WV vs EPA case is still pending. Sort of like: "The judge in my criminal case doesn't have the guts to give me a long sentence." "Oh yeah? 20 years gutsy enough for you?"

Trump was profoundly aware that he had no power to fire the man, despite his epicly terrible role in prolonging Covid lockdowns long after Trump wanted to open up to save the American economy and society.
Trump's next step was radical and brilliant: the creation of a new category of federal employment. It was called Schedule F.
Employees of the federal government classified as Schedule F would have been subject to control by the elected president and other representatives. Who are they? They are those who met the following criteria:
Positions of a confidential, policy-determining, policy-making, or policy-advocating character not normally subject to change as a result of a Presidential transition shall be listed in Schedule F. In appointing an individual to a position in Schedule F, each agency shall follow the principle of veteran preference as far as administratively feasible.
Schedule F employees would be fired. "You're fired" was the slogan that made Trump TV famous. With this order, he would be in a position to do the same to the federal bureaucracy. The order further demanded a thorough review throughout the government.
Each head of an executive agency (as defined in section 105 of title 5, United States Code, but excluding the Government Accountability Office) shall conduct, within 90 days of the date of this order, a preliminary review of agency positions covered by subchapter II of chapter 75 of title 5, United States Code, and shall conduct a complete review of such positions within 210 days of the date of this order.
The Washington Post in an editorial expressed absolute shock and alarm at the implications:
The directive from the White House, issued late Wednesday, sounds technical: creating a new "Schedule F" within the "excepted service" of the federal government for employees in policymaking roles, and directing agencies to determine who qualifies. Its implications, however, are profound and alarming. It gives those in power the authority to fire more or less at will as many as tens of thousands of workers currently in the competitive civil service, from managers to lawyers to economists to, yes, scientists. This weeks order is a major salvo in the Presidents onslaught against the cadre of dedicated civil servants whom he calls the "deep state" and who are really the greatest strength of the U.S. government.
Yes, but a presidential executive order written two weeks before he lost the election — even if the loss was the result of massive cheating by the declared winner — is an order that will be quickly reversed by the next president’s EO. Something for the next Republican president to do in the first days in office, or for the Republican-controlled Congress to pass into law.

there are about 5000-7000 Schedule C positions in the Federal govt executive branch. They are exempt from civil service hiring regulations and serve 'at will'
Fewer than a hundred were fired during the Trump Admin. and some positions were left unfilled during most of the Trump Admin.
The people who report to the political appointees are typically skillful flatterers who would survive almost any change in govt. They are subject to reassignment but not firing. I doubt the Schedule F idea would have made much of difference.

There was a video from the cameras at the Garyachka pond near the Kremenchug KredMASH plant.
Thanks to the Ukrainian TG channels, which published a video confirming that there was no substantive attack on the Amstor shopping center in Kremenchug.
The posted footage from CCTV cameras (3 videos) shows an explosion right behind the pond, just where the workshops are located.
This is the first rocket, but there were two of them.
Official Kyiv continued to falsely insist that the second rocket hit the shopping center directly.
At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine cordoned off the place of the incident and strictly suppressed any attempts to photograph the point of the second strike. But the pictures still got on the network.
By bending the rails and the gantry crane, you can very accurately determine the location of the shooting - along the railway tracks separating the plant (left) and the shopping center (right). The photo clearly shows that the debris and debris lie from the side of the plant, on the left. The grass near the fence also burned out on the left side. This clearly indicates that the center of the explosion was located to the left of the tracks, on the territory of the plant.
According to the geolocation of the wreckage, it is possible to accurately determine the place of impact - this is the main railway entrance to the plant and the unloading area. The zone is strategically important for the possibility of receiving military equipment.

As familiar scouts said, during the assault on the next village, such a barrier missed the "armor", but when the infantry went, they opened fire on it from small arms literally from every window of the inhabitant. The infantry had to roll back, and subsequently the artillery literally burned that square. Those few from the "barrier" who survived, threw down their weapons and tried to leave, having changed into a "citizen". This was later told by the captured scouts themselves. They had no option to retreat from their positions - they would simply be shot by their own.
I remember something similar in Syria on campaigns against ISIS and al-Nusra. Basic training of an artilleryman or a driver takes at least six months. And this is true even for outdated Soviet equipment, not to mention high-tech Western weapons.
▪️What brigades can be quickly prepared by the Armed Forces of Ukraine by August?
Let's try to imagine the appearance of a typical armored personnel carrier as part of a new brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the fall.
several companies from the victims of recruitment;
a pair of platoons of nationalists, performing the functions of a convoy of recruits and a detachment on the battlefield;
poorly trained mechanized and artillery groups;
the motley equipment in service, mainly from the former countries of the Warsaw Pact, produced in the 70s - 80s;
lack of a normal full-featured rembat;
platoon of foreign mercenaries to control nationalists and guard NATO military specialists who exercise real control over the military unit.
How many such brigades can fight? No.
For the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the situation at the front will develop as it is now, only worse. Motivated regular military personnel and Ukrainian nationalists with combat experience will be destroyed in the Donbass by that time.
No matter how strange it may sound, the main military goal of the West in this war is to inflict maximum damage on the enemy, to destroy as many Russians as possible both by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
It is in this case that the method of warfare chosen by the Armed Forces of Ukraine becomes clear: capturing and sending the inhabitants of Ukraine under escort for disposal. They will die themselves and as a bonus, at least in a ratio of 1 to 10, they will take with them the fighters of the RF Armed Forces.
And the enemy for NATO troops is not only the RF Armed Forces, but also Ukraine - as a potential resource of the enemy, which cannot be mastered on its own and therefore must be destroyed.
It is not the brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recruited for the mobilization of the Armed Forces that should be feared, but the prolongation of the war.

The assault groups of the allied forces of Russia and the LPR have already passed about a third of the length of Lisichansk and are conducting small-arms close battles in the area of the Shakhtyor stadium.

On the north side of Lisichansk, near the settlement Shepilovo and Privolye, the allied forces crossed the Seversky-Donets and entrenched themselves on the right side of the river, where they are equipping bridgeheads for a further attack on the city.

The quite understandable task of our troops is to make this withdrawal as costly as possible for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
