Israel-Palestine-Jordan
After walling itself in, Israel learns to hazard the jungle beyond
Long. An interesting exploration of a country’s psychological evolution, with quotes from Professor Jordan Peterson.
[IsraelTimes] For years, the country tried to protect the ’villa’ by hunkering behind barriers, physically and mentally; now, it is sallying forth bravely into the region.

"In the end, in the State of Israel, as I see it, there will be a fence surrounding it," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared, during a February 2016 tour of the Israel-Jordan border. "They’ll say to me, ’That’s what you want to do, to defend the villa?’ The answer is yes. ’Will we surround all of Israel with fences and obstacles?’ The answer is yes. In the environment we live in, we must defend ourselves from the predators."

The reference to "defending the villa" might sound somewhat odd to most observers, but to Israeli ears, it is familiar shorthand for a widely — almost unconsciously — accepted idea.

Israel is a villa in a jungle.

The phrase is said to have originated with Ehud Barak, who gave a 1996 speech as foreign minister to Jewish communal leaders in St. Louis, saying, "The dreams and aspirations of many in the Arab world have not changed. We still live in a modern and prosperous villa in the middle of the jungle, a place where different laws prevail. No hope for those who cannot defend themselves and no mercy for the weak."

Sixteen years later, he was still using the phrase. Others continue to do so as well. "Villa in the Jungle" was what veteran military correspondent Alon Ben David called his 2020 lecture series on Israel’s security challenges.

It is not just a wry Israeli slogan. The "villa in the jungle" reflects a core Israeli understanding of its place in the Middle East... and how it should act in it.

At the heart of the idea lies a deep-seated fear about what surrounds us. The metaphor recalls a pioneering homesteader who hacks down a small clearing in a dangerous forest, creating a precarious island of order with the trappings of civilization while threats lurk in the shadows beyond.

Of course, the idea has inescapable colonialist undertones, and Barak has been criticized for the impolitic description of Israel’s neighbors. In artistic depictions from the colonial period in Africa, the jungle — a loaded concept, not a scientific designation — represents the limits of European ability to impose order, and thus to make sense of their surroundings. The jungle was, in the words of one author, "a blank screen, stripped of geographical, temporal, and topological specificity, onto which Europeans projected utopian or dystopian ideas about their home culture and its relationship to the colonial Other."

But whereas the disordered vastness of the jungle spurred Europeans to seek to claim it and impose order on it, the Israeli — and some might say, Jewish — impulse is the opposite. In Barak and Netanyahu’s formulation, the Middle Eastern jungle (the original, Sanskrit meaning of the word is "an arid desert," so it is even more appropriate for this region than Barak may have realized) is home to primitive, bloodthirsty peoples, who live and die by the sword and the suicide bomb. Faced with what they saw as interminably violent mostly peaceful neighbors, Israeli leaders sought to throw up palisades to keep their well-tended home and garden protected from the chaos lurking just beyond the walls.

#4  Several things are overlooked that had some importance.
First, the support of Soviet Russia for the creation of Israel, and the importance of Czech arms shipments to Israel in the resulting war of 1948 are not mentioned.
Second the Arabs of Palestine are said to have "revolted" in the 1920s and 30s against British rule. while the Haganah and Irgun are described as terrorists, in the subsequent fighting. Actually the Arab Revolt consisted almost entirely of acts of terror against defenseless Jewish populations, Haganah and Irgun were created to defend those populations and were forced to act against the British, who favored the Arabs militarily almost constantly.
Thirdly, the failure of the invasion of Israel by armies from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Egypt and Jordan and an irregular British supported army consisting of Bosnian fascists, was not caused by the superiority in numbers of the Jews, but of the military incompetence of all but the British trained and officered and supplied Jordanian army.
In fact the anti-Israel fervor in the Arab world was cultivated by the British government in a futile effort to curry favor with the Arab Nationalists, whose main enemy was actually Britain itself (until the Suez war). The Soviets then took to opposing Israel through supplying Egypt and Syria with arms, mainly as a way to cripple US influence in the Arab world, with results that usually embarrassed themselves.
Finally the large scale expulsions of Jews from the Arab world, which exceeded in number that of Arabs who fled from Palestine in 1947-8, is not mentioned at all.
Also the attribution of government actions to the influence of single influential non-government advisers occurs often in this video, and is, like all such attributions on any subject, a claim that is a conclusion about what influenced the minds of others.Such claims cannot be known with certainty, even by the actors themselves, let alone by a historian.

Systemic Racism - the Big Lie
The Naked Dollar via Instapundit
So, why do we say systemic racism, and not just racism? Why systemic?

It's important to understand the words and phrases that so thoroughly penetrate our national discourse, because most people don't.

Systemic racism is not about specific instances of racism. Rather, it is the belief that racism is imbued in our national DNA, in our system. It looks to broad, racial outcomes as evidence. Any disparity in result is a priori proof of systemic racism.

Ibram X. Kendi himself, the man at the very pinnacle of the "Anti-racism" power structure, says, "Racial discrimination is the sole cause of racial disparities in this country."

...As long as racial groups perform differently, there must be racism. Systemic racism.

If our system is racist, then we must ask, what does our system consist of? The answer to that is institutions, of course. The government, corporations, schools, foundations...

...first, let's be clear, there was a time in our country where most of our institutions were racist.

...But matters have changed radically in the last few decades. I am unaware of any institutions that don't give special preferences to blacks. Many significantly so.

Everyone knows this, but it's a truth you can't speak, particularly if you rely on someone else for your paycheck.

Whether you think such preferences are the right thing to do is a discussion for a different day. But it's an unarguable fact that preferences are given.

The government and public schools certainly do.

Universities certainly do. The average SAT scores for black students at places like Harvard is several hundred points lower than other students.

Corporations certainly do. In fact, they are desperate to hire more black candidates, and are often frustrated in their efforts to do so. Same goes for finding board members. The CEO of Wells Fargo, Charles Scharf, got in hot water recently when he said, "The unfortunate reality is that there is a very limited pool of black talent to recruit from."
USA used to be the world's leading economy - and then, IMHO, affirmative action was invented.

Look I lived the Middle Eastern Ga., in fact we lived a 1/2 mile off Tobacco Rd./US-25.and grew up in the actual Hollywood "Tobacco Rd" 1941 6depicted movie area. We were a mixed community even then. Having Blacks neighbors all around us, we hung out and ate BBQ and Fish Fry's together. Yes while exercising the usual care. We did not see racial issues until getting on a Bus to head downtown. Even many of us still sat in seats next to each other, So using the Far Left's latest New PC Word, I guess we were "woke" as far back 1963.

Today, here in My South, I see more inter-racial couples than I do up North in my Assignments.
Here I see greater mutual sincere respect & manners between Older Whites and Older Blacks.

While places up North I have been assigned GIG's were still practicing a toned down version of Driving Miss Daisy. But with Screwy Louies or Rev. Wright as the Driver and a typical Do as I say not as I do Northern Liberal Politician as Miss Daisy.

What bothers me the most is the younger Black Generations I see as walking around with a Racial Chip on both their shoulders. Too many trying to act the Blackest in the group.

I think the 1990's + Black generation needs to WAKE UP and see how RACIST they act and look.

#6  It's actually guilt and inaction that is systemic.

The only recourse civilized people have is to overtly descend to the level of prejudiced they are accused of being, and selectively dis-empower those they have foolishly appeased for generations.

It shall require actual unfairness, letting loose chaos and extra-judicial actions, harassment by mobs, and playing the villains properly. This is what China did too. The current paradigms of humanist social theory governing western democracies will have to be broken if it is to survive the assault of the liberal zeitgeist.

#6  They lie shamelessly and with impunity. They lied and still tpush preposterous lies about Trump being a Russkie agent. They lied about Kavanaugh being a gang rapist.

"Peaceful protests." "Undocumented immigrants." "Systemic racism." "White privileged. "Toxic masculinity."

These are Big Lies, following the Goebbels formulation. Telling the truth is not enough. Truth-telling didn't bring down Goebbels and his boss because their party was ruthless and wills to spill blood to maintain power.

Like the Bolsheviks, like the Maoists, the Fidelistas and the Jacobins, today's Cultural Marxists rely on force to get their way.

The unfortunate truth is that these vicious little monsters will not stop until they are opposed with equal or greater force. Sooner or later the quisling majority in this country will be confronted with a stark choice: fight back, meet fire with fire, or be crushed. How much longer before we face that choice?

#7  Sound familiar? "Pre WWI-France: Businesses and banks secretly paid certain newspapers to promote particular financial interests, and hide or cover up possible most behavior. Publishers took payments for favorable notices in news articles of commercial products. Sometimes, a newspaper would blackmail a business by threatening to publish unfavorable information unless the business immediately started advertising in the paper. Foreign governments, especially Russia and Turkey, secretly paid the press hundreds of thousands of francs a year to guarantee favorable coverage of the bonds it was selling in Paris. When the real news was bad about Russia, as during its 1905 Revolution or during its war with Japan, it raised the bribes it paid to millions of francs. Each ministry in Paris had a group of journalists whom it secretly paid and fed stories..." [The result: A cynical France that was easy pickings for the Nazis.]

Surviving WW2 Veteran Recounts Harrowing Story Of The Lack Of Trans Representation On D-Day
[Babylon Bee] LINCOLN, NE—One of the last surviving veterans who survived the D-Day invasion, Otto Bernard, opened up to reporters recently to tell his harrowing story of the bloody fight against entrenched German forces on Omaha Beach. According to Bernard, his terrifying experience was made even worse by a complete lack of trans representation among the soldiers.

"I landed with the 29th division in the first wave," said Bernard with a far-off look in his eyes. "As the DD Tanks hit the beach, we were showered with machine-gun fire that tore us to pieces."

"And as I looked around, I realized to my horror that there was a complete lack of trans representation. Just a bunch of biological men. Heck-- there weren't even any women." he said as tears formed and his voice began to shake.
PTSD the T stands for Trans?
"I'm totally embarrassed to have been a part of it," he said quietly. "We were wrong to thumb our noses at the value of diversity. Imagine how much better the invasion would have gone if we had a few women or at least a couple of trans-women with us. I'm so ashamed..."

Bernard, who was overcome with emotion, asked to cut the interview short. He has volunteered himself for the new military diversity training program to help atone for his sins.

This is a Joke right?

This man claims to be a member of 116th Regiment of 29th and on D-Day.

According to the WWII doc's I looked at:

Otto Bernard

Draft board 104, San Mateo County:
Granite Mountain Record Vault Records (Utah).

These cards represent older men, ages 45 to 65 in April 1942, that were registered for the draft. They had birth dates between 28 Apr 1877 and 16 Feb 1892.
Meaning he'd be 129 + year old.

Of course there could have been 2 Otto Bernard's in the 166th of 29th also.

NOTE:
United States World War II Draft Registration Cards, and other service data is available online... but it takes access certain databases and still a lot of searching.

Government
Powerful: Military To Allow Troops To Replace Camo With Colors Of Their Gender Identity Flag
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.—A new executive order handed down from President Joe Biden will allow service members to select camouflage that reflects their chosen gender identity.

Soldiers, Marines, and sailors deployed to the front lines will be given the choice of which kind of uniform to wear. Options range from transgender flag colors and rainbow colors to lesser-known gender identity flags, such as tater-tots and dragonkin. You can even choose a furry suit, if you so desire.

"Rather than being stuck with patriarchal desert, forest, or urban camouflage, U.S. service members can now select camouflage that matches the flag of their chosen gender identity," said a spokesperson for the Pentagon. "It is important that every military member feel comfortable in their uniform and that it reflects their lived truth, whether that be a man in a woman's body, a woman in a man's body, or a grapefruit."

"Finally -- you can live your truth even as you fight America's enemies."

In unrelated news, there has been a spike in casualties among the armed forces fighting on the frontlines, though it's unclear why.

Don't post Oprah memes if you are not black
  • [Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] The Slow Factory Foundation recently issued a waning about digital blackface following Princess Meghan Markle
...unlikable American former starlet married to the formerly likable Prince Harry. Chock full of lefty political opinions, Markle's most important characteristic is that she is Black, even though she doesn't look it. Her mother, y'see, is half black and her father is white, which would make her a quarter Black. Her half brother described her (to her husband, before their marriage) as a jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage. Once married, she was too good for the Royals and she and Harry decamped to Beverly Hills, kind of like the Clampetts did, thus making a joke of Harry and the royal family heritage...

  • Non-profit defined digital blackface as an online phenomenon where white and non-black people share GIFs and photos of black people to express emotion

  • The organization stated that these memes perpetuate 'negative stereotypes' about black people and are reminiscent of minstrel shows

  • Idea of digital blackface has been around for years, but the term was popularized by writer Lauren Michele Jackson in her 2017 Teen Vogue essay

  • The Slow Factory Foundation said people shouldn't be sharing Oprah reaction memes just because they are popular, prompting mixed reactions

  • Some praised the organization for educating others about digital blackface, while others felt it was going too far and is stupid actually a form of black erasure

So bad, the only relatable part is we've all known that serviceman who had his life ruined by marrying a stripper.

The only reason to have Oprah perform this interview, considering her total lack of background, is star power and emotion face, emotion face which earned her first real money as daytime talk show host, so she has established marquee faces, just like the thousand meme of Dr. Phil face. Oprah looks good for her age, she does, but her make-up crew went totally overboard especially with the lipstick.

That is, it was her make-up crew which gave her clown face.

But the first rule about the age of absurdity, is you can't talk about the absurdity.

#10  When Cameras ["And white folks!"] Attack:
"You stole Oprah's soul! Oh, alack!
Though the likeness be true
Of the stuff that we do,
Still, we'll take back from you --
And the negatives, too! --
All those pictures of Dorian Black."

With sincerest apologies to black Burgers (the both of youse!), not that you'd need'em.

Hollywood Loves Joe!
[Brietbart] Hollywood celebrities fawned over President Joe Biden on Thursday night as he delivered his first prime-time presidential address to the nation. The stars poured on the praise, from CBS Mom star Kristen Johnston who said Biden’s "kicking ass" to director Rob Reiner, who said "Thank God we have a real President. It makes you cry."
On the other hand...
Joe Biden’s address came fifty days into his presidency. He hit former president Donald Trump right out of the gate, saying "more deaths, more infections, more stress, and more loneliness" was the result of the coronavirus being met with "silence" and "denials" a year ago when the first positive cases became public. Biden didn’t mention Trump’s decision on January 31, 2020 to declare a national health emergency and to impose a ban on travel to and from China. This came before the first COVID-19 diagnosis in the U.S. And Joe Biden was still holding crowded campaign events in March 2020.
On the other, other hand, lots of fawning at the link.

#5  The underlying assumption only demonstrates the profundity of the gap between the opposing sides. That is the fallacious belief that anybody in Hollywood actually listens to or pays any remote attention to Biden, any more than they did Trump.

A conservative, they would need to listen and evaluate the actual positions prior to picking a side. Hollywood operates under no similar burdens. When was the last time Cher or Rob Reiner listened to anything but their own hysterical gas?
