Pres. Trump declared Antifa a terrorist organization, and Democrats are worried
[American Thinker] On Sunday, President Trump took aim at Antifa, which apparently has driven the violent side of the protests ripping through America's Democrat-run cities. With full-throated support from Attorney General Barr, Trump is designating Antifa as a terrorist organization. This is an extremely important announcement because Antifa is more than just a terrorist group. It is, in fact, the paramilitary arm of the Democrat Party.

As is often the case, Trump made his consequential announcement via Twitter:

#1  Antifa should remember what happened to the Nazi Party's SA. If the Feds don't smash them, the Donks will when they get delusions of power.

#5  no Exec Order on this as of this post

it isn't so easy to do this, the words matter

antifa is not a transnational org and also antifa is mainly about destruction of property so the 'terrorism' is different than, say, ISIS whose whole purpose is killing people
Posted by: lord garth || 06/02/2020 10:05 Comments || Top||

#6  No, the right term is not 'terrorism' but insurrection.

POTUS has clear authority under the 1807 Insurrection Act to declare this an insurrection, which case law has defined and clarified further as "a violent uprising by a group or movement acting for the specific purpose of overthrowing the constituted government and seizing its powers."

Antifa/BLM and their allies have a specific purpose of destroying the law enforcement capability of established governments across the United States.

They are not focused on creating fear or gaining property but on eliminating altogether the government's monopoly on violence. In essence they are like the Weathermen or the Black Panthers: a revolutionary organization whose goal is to bring down the government in our cities.
Posted by: Lex || 06/02/2020 10:20 Comments || Top||

#7  If government has a monopoly on violence, isn't that a violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act?
Posted by: DooDahMan || 06/02/2020 11:10 Comments || Top||

#8  They should be worried. Biden and the DNC funder their legal defense teams. They have been speaking out in their defense publicly. The have blocked Trump in numerous occasions. This all shows complicity and support to terrorist organizations. When Antifa goes gown under RICO, they will be in trouble as well.

#9

1. Post Hurricane Katrina, the Insurrection Act was amended to include "..any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy..." So it fits.

2. HWBush used pre Katrina version of this law during the Rodney King riots.

3. This only really works well if the State and locals are cooperating with it.

4. My preference is legislation specifically targeting Antifa. Should pass Senate easily. HOR Dems will resist for a while but eventually some Dems will vote for bill.
Posted by: lord garth || 06/02/2020 11:46 Comments || Top||

#10  fwiw, a resolution was introduced in the Senate in 2019 calling for designation of antifa as a terrorist org (it didn't make it past an introduction)

it is out of date now as antifa's activity has grown by orders of magnitude

#11  antifa is not a transnational org

#13  Not a transnational organization? The name itself stems from German:
Posted by: Clem || 06/02/2020 12:59 Comments || Top||

#14  It's a European, originally Weimar German, movement.

Historical legacy of ANTIFA - "Antifaschistische Aktion", from post-WWI Germany - recounted by a left-wing historian here.

Nb this article' from 3 years ago. Even though this rather pompous historian sniffs that Antifa is just "a left-wing subculture with its own social spaces and cultural life" which "is not the same thing as a mass social movement," they should not be underestimated.

They have learned how to use social media effectively across a broad geographic area in order to identify vulnerable police and then organize swiftly and bring concentrated, overwhelming - and deadly - force to bear against weak or poorly-protected key targets.

If they're not already coordinating across the US and Europe they may well do so in the near future.

Posted by: Lex || 06/02/2020 13:09 Comments || Top||

#15  Re: #9 - the problem with specifically naming Antifa specifically is, that like Acorn, once it's busted up, it'll re-spawn under a different name without hindrance.

#21  Mercutio, you are correct but hopefully a number will not be able to rejoin the new group for 30 years or more and the funding can be pulled up by the roots so the new group will have less support financial and public.
Posted by: rjschwarz || 06/02/2020 17:35 Comments || Top||

#22  there is an Antifa in modern Germany and it is watched closely by the Govt there

there are also probably Antifa groups in some other countries in Europe

but there have been almost no antifa sparked riots and looting in Europe

the reason for this is that Jihadist groups do almost all the rioting and looting in Europe leaving little space for antifa

btw, today, the WaPo and Vox have put out antifa apology type articles,

legislation would also allow congressional testimony which would cover the many black property and business owners taken down by antifa which in turn would help get legislation passed and the legislation could be much better focused than an exec order

Revolutionary Extremist Groups Lighting American Cities Ablaze – Where Was the FBI?

#1  Not protests. Not riots.
An anarchist-far left organized, concerted, nationwide effort to destroy the state hence the people's ability to govern themselves in this country.

In short, an insurrection.

#3  Early in every revolution there is a point at which the new movement, having surprised itself by its good fortune in being able to push back the king's Swiss Guards or the Imperial troops and gain a temporary, small victory, pauses and hesitates, unsure what to do next.

At such moments the window of opportunity opens for the forces of order to act swiftly, exploit the immaturity of the sprawling, leaderless, inchoate revolutionary mass, and crush it with precise applications of overwhelming force.

That time is now. Today is the crucial day.

#5  One thing I find curious: Minneapolis. Lousiville. Indianapolis. NY City. Baltimore. Dallas (Amber Guyger shooting that guy in his apartment). LA (going all the way back to Rodney King). Atlanta.

All places where police are alleged to be racist, and to have killed "innocent" black men.

And EVERY SINGLE ONE of them is governed by a liberal Democrat Mayor.

Thats the common thread. Liberals in charge.

#8  Oh, come on guys.

You can arrest them but if you don't tuck them away for a long time, so what. How many of these barbarians did they put away for their actions on inaugural day in 2017? zip, nada. If you are not going to prosecute what's the point of it?

As for the NG, what is their RoE? Empty weapons and told to take it or retreat? Then a insurrectionist shows up with a loaded gun and relieves the bunch of their military weapons which are now in the others hands. BS.

A government that fails if not refuses to provide protection of your person, your family and your property is no longer legitimate.

#9  Fine, then invoke the 1807 Insurrection Act and call out the Army.

It is in fact an insurrection aimed at crippling and destroying urban governments across the nation. It must be stopped immediately or it will accelerate and spread beyond the cities.

#10  #8 P2P As for the NG, what is their RoE? Empty weapons and told to take it or retreat?

IIUC - based on what happened in LA in 1992 and Detroit in 1967 - their weapons are loaded and they have orders to suppress disorder with deadly force e.g. by shooting looters on sight. Is my memory wrong?

#12  Behind the paywall - sorry to ask but could you please paste the relevant text? Thanks in advance.

Anyway if you're right as you probably are, then it seems the only realistic chance at restoring order now is to invoke the Insurrection Act and call out the 101st Airborne etc against these savages. Thoughts?

#14  /\ The above data from the article were arming elements and weapons status of the ROE at the time. Some may also recall the small metal 'Full Auto' blocking attachment that was fitted to the M-16 handguard at the receiver.

* If you think there may have been individual soldier deviations from the prescribed weapons status, you are absolutely correct.

#15  Thanks, Besoeker.

Then our only hope at this point is OrangeMan seizing the nettle and invoking the Insurrection Act.

The police in so many of these cities have been restrained for so many years by sadsack left-lib hacks that it's doubtful many of them can rally and take back the streets. (Picture this example 2 days ago from Chicago's Finest if you disagree).

I don't see Antifa/BLM losing steam - quite the opposite. They just staged a fierce gun battle in St Louis outside Police HQ and shot four officers.

This is organized, focused, with carefully chosen targets. Looks like war.
Posted by: Lex || 06/02/2020 10:42 Comments || Top||

#16  /\ Correct! Can't blame Law Enforcement, they are being thrown under the bus on a daily basis. If the mayor and the Chief of police order "abandon ship," the police stations is burned to the ground.

POTUS needs to selectively Federalize the National Guard and bring in Regular Army leadership/advisors as necessary.
Posted by: Besoeker || 06/02/2020 10:47 Comments || Top||

#17  Think he might be firing that up Lex. It will be needed as per Posse Comitatus.

The Posse Comitatus Act, which passed after the Civil War to keep federal troops from policing the South, limits federal troops' deployment on U.S. soil and forbids using them to enforce domestic laws. The President can deploy troops if there's an insurrection or invasion on U.S. soil.
Posted by: Warthog || 06/02/2020 11:07 Comments || Top||

#18  Read the After-Action reports from the LA riots and understand the enormous decrease in legal operations when you federalize the Guard and it invokes Posse Commitatus. The Insurrection Act or Martial Law is the only way to give Federal Troops the breadth of missions that the Guard has in a state status. The frustration is the limiting orders certain Governors place on the Adjutant General. Federalize the Guard and the Governor is out of the picture but Posse applies unless you suspend the Constitution under some form of Martial Law.

POWERFUL: Protesters Spell Out 'Love' With Burning Homes And Businesses
[BABYLONBEE] In a powerful display of their care for love and justice, protesters in Minneapolis burned the word "LOVE" into the city, arranging the inspiring message with homes and businesses set ablaze by their riots.

Heartfelt and moving.

"We just really wanted to show how much we care about love and social justice by burning this community into a powerful reminder of what it's all about," said local protester Jake Hernandez, who had flown in from Portland for the event. "Now, when police and fire helicopters fly over to try to restore order, they'll be inspired by our message of love and harmony."

Remdesivir: George Soros & Bill Gates Partner with China on Coronavirus Drug!
[Intelligence Network] As drug manufacturers speed up their efforts to find a new treatment drug for the coronavirus outbreak that has devastated China and has caused a world-wide panic, a Chinese drug company just announced that it has started mass-producing an experimental drug from Gilead Sciences that has the potential to fight the novel coronavirus (1).

BrightGene Bio-Medical Technology, a Suzhou based company (2), just announced that it has developed the technology to synthesize the active pharmaceutical ingredients of Remdesivir, the drug developed by Gilead Biosciences. Its stock price surged 20% in Tuesday morning trading in Shanghai (1).

"While BrightGene said that it intends to license the drug from Gilead, its move to start manufacturing at this early stage is highly unusual and a potential infringement of the American company’s intellectual property."(1) This comes a week after Chinese researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology filed an application to patent Gilead’s drug Remdesivir to treat the new coronavirus, a bid that would give China leverage over the global use of the therapy to fight the outbreak (1)(3)(4).

The decision to seek a patent instead of invoking a "compulsory license" option that lets nations override drug patents in national emergencies, signals China’s commitment toward intellectual property rights. The timing is uncanny! Right? Gilead will retain the global rights to market the antiviral medication, once approved (3). Gilead has also announced that it is partnering with the Chinese Health Authorities on the clinical trials of Remdesivir as a treatment for coronavirus (5). Remdesivir was originally developed in 2016 by Gilead as a treatment for the Ebola virus (13). Many have argued that China stole the patent from Gilead due to a technicality, but you will soon see that this is indeed not the case (14).

I've said that many times about corporations that insist on having their manufacturing done in Third World countries or China. #3  They're talking 'legal' concealed cause we know states have issues with 'others' already doing 'unregulated' concealed carry on cash withdraws and capping.

#4  Alaska does not require residents to have concealed carry permits, but you can get one with background check and training, and then possessing it has lots of states with reciprocity.

If you have a non resident or resident concealed carry permit for Washington State, it is much more restricted in reciprocity with other states. So an Alaska Concealed Carry Permit is much more accepted with other states than a Washington permit.

Europe
The German Court's Unexpected Blow to the ECB
[mises.org] Since the beginning of the year, the corona crisis has come to monopolize news coverage to the extent that a lot of very important stories and developments either went underreported or were ignored altogether. One such example was the very surprising ruling that came out of the German Constitutional Court in early May, which challenged the actions and remit of the European Central Bank (ECB). This decision could have severe repercussions if it were upheld, but the reactions to it are arguably even more consequential and telling of the ECB and the EU's stance on national sovereignty, on respecting member states' own laws, and on their own expansive powers.

For one thing, the core principle that the ECJ expressed, namely, that only it can decide if EU institutions are breaking EU laws is deeply troubling to begin with. Admitting that member states get no say in any of this is problematic enough, but the idea of concentrating power and legal authority to this incestuous degree is plainly an affront not just to Western principles of justice, but also to common sense.
THE ECB "WENT TOO FAR"
In essence, the court's decision made it clear that the ECB's quantitative easing (QE) program did not respect the "principle of proportionality," abusing the ECB mandate, while the German government failed to challenge the bank's policies as it should have. The ruling also mentioned the side effects of the program and of the ECB's overall ultraloose policy direction, such as the penalizing of savers and pensioners. As was highlighted in the official decision, "the ECB fails to conduct the necessary balancing of the monetary policy objective against the economic policy effects arising from the program. Therefore, the decisions at issue…exceed the monetary policy mandate of the ECB." As a result, the court issued an ultimatum and directly asked the Bundesbank to comply with its ruling and therefore to stop buying government bonds under the ECB's QE program in the next three months.

Home Front: Politix
The Economic Fallout of the Lockdown and Riots will not Diminish Support for Trump
[American Thinker] Since November 9, 2016, the nation’s elites have been obsessively determined to either use the unchecked clout of the deep state to force Donald Trump to resign, or failing that, so besmirch him and his voter base as to ensure his defeat in 2020. For the first three years of the Trump presidency both stratagems were employed in tandem. However, with the abject failure of the Russian collusion hoax and the Ukrainian impeachment fiasco, these conspirators are now left with relying on the besmirchment option and doing everything possible to make certain that the coronavirus lockdown and the burning of American cities by the militant wing of the American left will deleteriously affect the economy going into November of 2020.

The entire dictionary of modern epithets has been utilized in attacking Donald Trump and his supporters. He has been relentlessly compared to virtually all 20th Century despots and mass murderers. He has also been accused of committing treason, of being a sexual predator, a misogynist, a xenophobe, a virulent racist and a homophobe.

Despite all the ad hominem attacks, Trump’s greatest sin is that he is uncivil and devoid of any character. The definition of "character and civility," as it applies to this President, revolves around his perceived lack of sophistication and erudition, his speech patterns and temperament, his incessant use of Twitter as well as assigning crude nicknames to his opponents, and lastly, his insistence on being who he really is and not hiding behind a conventional political facade.

Despite this relentless bombardment of epithets and accusations, Donald Trump has not lost any of his core supporters and has, in fact, gained additional support. Further, reliance on calculatingly prolonging the economic fallout from the Wuhan Virus lockdown and the Antifa sponsored rampages will not be effective in altering the mindset of these voters.

#1  Are the Dem governors simply incompetent? Or are they actively trying to ensure more chaos?

These aren't protests or riots. This is an insurrection. Are we sure that Democratic politicians aren't aiding this insurrection?

#2  Occam’s Razor doesn’t help here.
Is it due to weakness and incompetence?
Is it aiding abetting sedition?
Or is it both?

Dems are, regardless of cause, demonstrated that they are unfit to govern.

Give Up Your Guns Because Democrats Will Totally Protect You
It's Kurt
[Townhall] Watching the Minneapolis Police Department abandon its precinct to the torch and crowbar-wielding peaceful protesters in that Democrat-run state and city, my first thought was that I should disarm. After all, I have been reliably informed by our smart and competent elite betters that I don't need firearms because the police will protect me, and I am sure that even though they can't defend their own police station they will absolutely defend me, my family, and our pet unicorn Chet.

Confusingly, I have also been reliably informed that the police are evil monsters of racism and badness and that they should be the only ones with guns because of reasons that I am not clear on, but I do know that our smart and competent elite betters know better. If you have any doubts about that, just look at the urban paradise that is progressive Minneapolis. I hear the zoo has a new unicorn exhibit.

#5  The GIVERnment subsidies education, abortion, housing, food... time to make all rights equal and subsidize gun ownership. Everyone get a voucher for one gun: redeem it or sell but everyone gets an opportunity because the police will not protect you in a crisis.

#7  It's fascinating to see how much LE has spent on weapons, ammo, armor, cameras, AI and other info collection tools, and yet they haven't been able to do jackshit about this insurrection.

Meanwhile, people are getting arrested for playing with their kids in the park or for defending themselves against thugs.

Kinda makes you wonder who was the intended target of all that kit and info, doesn't it?
