[GunsAmerica] Three Budget-Friendly Long-Range Scopes Tested (Including Tracking)

To get a sense of the market, I chose three scopes to test: the Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24×50, the Sightron STAC 4-20×50, and the Bushnell Nitro 6-24×50. The Vortex and the Bushnell both hit the market within the last year, so I knew I was getting the latest in terms of quality control. All three scopes can be had for under $600, and they all feature similar magnifications, dimensions, and weights. Each tube diameter measures 30mm.

#1  They're never going to be Nightforce or Steiner or Swarovski, but they are getting better and they're cheap enough to throw away when they break. I have a couple Hi-Lux (including a Leatherwood ART II on an M1A) and I like em.

#5  I had a Hi-Lux scout scope on my M1A. The recoil destroyed it (lenses broken from mounts). Now I have a Vortex, so they can replace it when/if it gets trashed.

No Sh**, No Lies Tales From The Infantry. Volume I
[RS] If you haven’t noticed it, Mike Ford had been trying to lighten the front page a bit on Sunday’s with a humorous story. Mike is on the road this week helping his parents relocate so he was sniveling on the email list yesterday asking for someone to keep the home fires lit, of LAF, as they say these days. There were no volunteers, so Jenn Van Laar texted me early this morning to ask me to do one. Unfortunately, my wife used my phone first...try explaining getting an early morning (Eastern) text from a woman your wife doesn’t know.

I don’t think you can really be a combat arms officer or career combat arms NCO and not amass a repertoire of funny‐or off color‐stories. And, to a great extent, those are the things you remember. You forget the mindless bullsh**. You forget (most of) the arrogant and incompetent senior officers you had to deal with. You forget sitting in an arroyo at 2 a.m. in a driving 40-degree rainstorm waiting for your LD time and shivering, as my boss would say, like an old dog sh***ing peach seeds.

And the follow-on:

#1  Due to laziness, the service has defaulted like most businesses into wanting that magic piece of paper from some institution designed to keep their graduates employed in one form or another. So, now if you want to be just a NCO, you need a paper saying that you have and associates degree by mid career. Just to reach the top, you need a bachelors. No one asks why the hell a fifteen year veteran with a bachelors degree is taking orders from a newly minted shave tail who zero practical experience or time in service. 2LT is a probationary rank. At least my instructors at basic made it very clear - sit down, shut up, and listen. "God only knows how the poor creature got a commission" - Winfield Scott, Fort Niagara.

#2  My off-color story is on my first tour, we lost our butts in a shoot 'em up and I as the Bull 2nd LT in the Division was the company commander.

After several weeks of waiting for a suitably senior officer to assume command, I went to the Bn CO who said I was doing a fine job. AND that there was nothing wrong with me that a lewd woman and a fifth of whiskey wouldn't cure. He went on to say that if the woman was lewd enough, I would not need any whiskey.

#3  #2 SPOD. Good chuckle. A lewd woman and a 5th of whiskey often gives great comfort and solves many problems...except for when it creates greater problems. Could end up in a Tijuana jail with a head-banger hangover.

-Land of the Free
Social Justice Prosecutors
[American Thinker] For years, many have bemoaned the slide of America’s higher education system down the slippery slope of moral relativism and the embracing of virtually all facets of progressive dogma while rejecting most elements of conservatism. The mere invitation of a conservative commentator to speak on college campuses is now reason enough for rioting and mass student protests. Bozo the Clown has a better chance of giving a commencement address at an Ivy League school than does Clarence Thomas, Condoleezza Rice, or their conservative contemporaries. Nowhere is this truth more prevalent than at our most prestigious law schools, and the products of those schools are now reflecting that decades-long liberal drift.
Who could have possibly seen any of this coming ?
Individuals from this new class of legal eagles have advanced in all branches of government and at all levels -- local, state, and federal. They have attended notable law schools, they are African-American, and they are hellbent on ushering in an era of seeking what today’s liberal law schools are pouring into their students by the bucket full -- not "justice" but "social justice."

Now finding themselves in positions of power, these social justice warriors have a deep-rooted belief in the fundamental unfairness of America in general, and our judicial system in particular. They believe that crimes for which underprivileged groups, namely blacks and Latinos, have higher rates of sentencing and incarceration, are the product of an at best a biased, and at worst a racist system; a system which they are a part of and can find ways to affect. One example is when the Obama/Holder DOJ released 6,000 people from federal prisons and reduced the sentences of as many as 46,000 others as a part of their sentencing-reform efforts in 2015.
Emphasis added.

Hot Air - New Dem Brilliance: Allow Felons To Vote From Behind Bars
Posted by: Besoeker || 04/08/2019 6:02 Comments || Top||

#2  These people are typically firmly ensconced in High Dem pop cities. They will refuse to prosecute and crime will go up. They don't allow self defense so crime will go up. The criminals who decide to move to Red America to try and have bigger piece of the pie will discover that red America is armed, ornery and considers ventilated criminals to be feel good stories of the day. They will go back, assuming they weren't ventilated. So crime in the cities will simply get worse and worse until NYC will resemble the Judge Dredd movies, without the judges.

Sekulow: Tax return request is using 'the IRS as a political weapon'
[The Hill] House Democrats’ request for President Trump’s tax returns amounts to using "the IRS as a political weapon," Trump’s attorney Jay Sekulow said on Sunday morning.

Sekulow told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that Congress may request individual citizens’ tax returns only for a "legitimate legislative purpose," which he claimed House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.) has not identified.

The Supreme Court "has said congressional oversight cannot become law enforcement," Sekulow told Stephanopoulos, saying the request would be using the IRS as "a political weapon" and suggesting it could set a precedent where Republicans could demand Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) tax returns.

On Friday, William Consovoy, an outside attorney for Trump, wrote to the Treasury Department's general counsel that the IRS should not release Trump’s tax returns without an opinion from the Justice Department. Trump has claimed an ongoing audit prevents him from releasing the returns.

#1  This is essentially a search. Where is the "probable cause" and evidence of criminal activity ? Where is the legal precedent ?

Appears to be a violation of the 4th and 14th Amendments regarding lawful searches.

#6  Didn't Obama (jokingly) threaten to have the IRS audit his enemies?

You know it, Rambler!

Just a technical note - if the IRS ever released this information it would not be a 'tax return' in a technical sense. Instead it would be the IRS' 'Record of Account', which is the line-by-line information that's on someone's tax return. It's not as straightforward to read as having a 1040 with al the schedules, though.

One other thing, which I've mentioned a lot of times previously is the matter of rich people getting audited, for which I've estimated a 1 in 5 chance if your AGI (adjusted gross income) exceeds $1 million. Trump has said previously that he wasn't releasing his tax returns for the same reason, which to me means one of two (or maybe both) reasons - a) the IRS is dragging the audit out for whatever reason; and / or b) multiple years are under audit.

#7  When did the Dems ever come clean on anything?
Posted by: JohnQC || 04/08/2019 11:39 Comments || Top||

#8  Actually I like this. The Democrats could be using their time to pass intrusive and counterproductive laws, write more choking regulations, and persecuting people they don't agree with...so if they want to waste their time on tax returns, that is actually OK with me.

Joe Biden Appointed As Head Of TSA
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.‐Amid a flurry of accusations of inappropriate touching and crowding people's personal space leveled at former vice president Joe Biden, President Trump announced Friday that Biden is his appointment to the Transporation Security Administration.

Biden will be tasked with showing TSA agents how to violate people's personal space and privacy in their daily groping of American citizens. He already has "dozens" of charts and infographics he began to hand out to TSA workers all across the country, creeping up on them and gingerly setting the files in their hands as he whispered his instructions in their ears.

"Based on Biden's skill getting inappropriately close to people and making unwanted physical advances, he is the perfect man for the job," Trump said. "We've had our differences in the past, but I'm glad Creepy Joe and I can work together on this one."

"He's a very good toucher, one of the best."

Trump reportedly considered himself for the position before choosing Biden, calling himself an "expert groper," but he was informed he can't be both president of the United States and the TSA Administrator.

International-UN-NGOs
Arab summit: Confronting Trump diplomacy
[AlAhram] The signal from Tunis is that Trump will not succeed, by force and bluster, to overturn decades of baselines in negotiations for Middle East peace.
“Here,” sez President Donald J. Trump, “hold my beer.”
Last Sunday, 31 March, Tunisia hosted the 30th regular Arab Summit amidst an escalation by the Trump White House against diplomatic gains the Arabs and Paleostinians have achieved in the last 52 years in dealing with the consequences of the Israeli occupation of Arab territories in the June War of 1967.
Let’s see: The Arabs lost the West Bank, Gaza, Sinai, Golan Heights, and East Jerusalem in what the Israelis call the Six Day War. Oh, and the Shabaab Farms corner of Lebanon at the end of the Golan. Of that, Egypt got back the part of the Sinai that’s full of bandits and jihadis in exchange for a peace treaty, but did not have to take back the Palestinans in Gaza; Jordan did not have to take back the Palestinians in the West Bank in exchange for their peace treaty, but they do get to fuss about the running of that mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem; and the West Bank and Gaza get to run their own affairs so long as they don’t trouble Israel. In addition, the Israelis have ignored Muslim sovereignty with impunity to bomb Iraqi and Syrian nuclear facilities to rubble, induce Iranian nuclear centrifuges to spin themselves into splinters, and destroy innumerable shipments of weapons en route as far away as Sudan...

Please do excuse me — I’ve lost track. What diplomatic gains were those?
These gains have been enshrined in UN resolutions that have garnered international support and have provided the legal foundations for what has become known as the "grinding of the peace processor" in the Middle East.

#1  Obama loved the Sunni's so much that we had war spreading across Iraq and Syria and Libya.

Trump has put most of that out (although Libya still burns).

Arab pride is far more important that Arab lives in the eyes of the Arabs.
