American mercenaries tortured and killed civilians in Donbass
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Alexander Kots

[KP] Imposingly, like the hero of a Hollywood action movie, he falls out of a pickup truck with a sniper rifle at the ready. A languid look from under the curls, a careless beard flutters in the wind, a perfectly fitted expensive outfit.

Enes Kanter Speaks Truth To Chinese Power
Hat tip to Powerline. Read more at the link.
Enes Kanter of the Boston Celtics is a hero. He stood up to the thuggish, repressive regime of Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his native Turkey. His criticism of Erdogan probably put him in physical danger. Kanter fled Indonesia where he was holding a basketball camp for children, after his manager told him Turkish intelligence agents had been sent to capture him.

Now, Kanter has taken on the mother of all thuggish, repressive regimes — Red China. He released a powerful video (see below) lambasting the Red Chinese regime for its unconscionable treatment of Tibet.

In the two-minute video, Kanter documents China’s reign of "cultural genocide" against Tibet. He calls out Chinese president Xi Jinping, labeling him, correctly, a "brutal dictator."

He does this while wearing a T-shirt featuring an image of the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader. And he notes that any Tibetan who owns a picture of the Delai Lama faces arrest for that act alone.

Kanter went further. He appeared for Boston’s game against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday wearing brightly colored shoes saying "Free Tibet." But Kanter didn’t take the court in that game. He was an un-used reserved in the Celtics’ overtime loss.

The Chinese government’s reaction to Kanter’s video was as swift as it was predictable. The Chinese video-streaming giant Tencent cut the live broadcast of the game between the Celtics and the Knicks. According to the Washington Post, the Tencent Sports app notes that upcoming Celtics games will not be broadcast live. Instead, unlike other NBA games, they will be reported by text and photo — if even that, when the dust settles.

The question now is how the NBA will respond. When Daryl Morey, a team executive, voiced support for freedom in Hong Kong, the NBA kowtowed to Red China. Morey, presumably under pressure, said it was not his intention to offend anyone. The NBA’s enormous Chinese revenue stream was saved.

#1  My father was over heavy weapons that supported the infantry during the island hoping campaign. The infantry would send him maps with requests on the back of the maps for supporting fire from his artillery, mortars, 50 caliber machine guns. Along side those requests was a list of current KIA, MIA, and wounded in action of US troops in the area the map covered.

By the end of the war in the South Pacific he had ground his teeth down to the gums from the stress of battle against a vicious Imperial Japanese Military.

With A Record 79 Container Ships Waiting Off The SoCal Coast, A Scary Supply-Chain Solution Emerges
[ZeroHedge] In which Zero Hedge waves around an excessive number of increasingly technical graphs in an effort to inform us that things will get worse before they get better.

#1  About the Zero Hedge piece: No mention of alternative ports beyond Los Angeles — like Governor Ron DeSantis pushing the availability of Florida’s — but we should be grateful for energy shortages in China limiting factory output even as we worry about empty store shelves resulting from reduced off-loading. Those interested in logistics and the stock market should find it more interesting.
Posted by: trailing wife || 10/24/2021 10:46 Comments || Top||

#2  BLUF: Which leaves us with the painful conclusion: if we want a return to the previous supply-chain equilibrium, the system needs to do more than just ramp up supply: it also needs to squash demand or the wild gyrations will continue.

"Squash demand?" Auhhh yes, price increases.

So far at least, I have absolutely no need for any of that stuff. What exactly is it in those containers that we absolutely CANNOT live without ?

What is it in those containers that we cannot produce in this country or Canada ?

Posted by: Besoeker || 10/24/2021 10:57 Comments || Top||

#3  Shipping backed up at the ports? Much longer time containers are waiting in the port to be trucked out?

No mention of the slashing of available trucking, due to the Covid Mandate, to move the containers out of the port?

#4  The underlying issue here is that in any functioning system, when you increase efficiency and reduce waste, you also remove the ability to react to problems.
Efficient workflow, waste control, redundant backups: choose any two.
Posted by: ed in texas || 10/24/2021 12:29 Comments || Top||

#5  The move to Just in Time logistics and point of sale demand cues at the point of manufacture are key to reduce the sunk cost of inventory awaiting demand in the intermediate warehouses of days gone by. Now, the price swipe at the checkout is the manufacture cue at Campbell's soup for another case of tomato soup. No capital tied up in the middle. Works great when the delivery system is directly at the other end of a well maintained highway/rail network a few hundred miles away, and the entire system is run by fellow citizens and people who want it to work. Change that dynamic to add a huge ocean, the point of manufacture run by people whose motives may well be other than friendly or politically congruent, and voila. Now add domestic over regulation by clueless Marxist fools like California, and this only gets worse. 30+ years of public policy by know-nothing political hacks has brought you this mess, and every solution this current crop of morons will offer involves more government sclerosis in the system, not less...

Sixty Percent Of French Voters Believe In The Great Replacement
[FreeWestMedia] A recent survey revealed that "more than six French out of 10 believe that the phenomenon of the Great Replacement will happen".

Eric Zemmour and members of the National Rally see this survey as a confirmation of their notions on immigration. With a sample of more than 2000 people registered on the electoral rolls, the polling institute Harris interactive for Challenges asked about the possibility of a "Great Replacement" occurring in France.

It was described in this study as being the phenomenon of "European, white and Christian populations [...] threatened with extinction following Muslim immigration, from the Maghreb and black Africa". Among those who expressed an opinion on this question, according to this poll, 61 percent of them believe that it would happen.

At the same time, 67 percent of those polled said they were "worried [...] about such a phenomenon". Among the defenders of this theory, Eric Zemmour is one of the leading media figures. "The ideas that I espouse are now central in French society", he noted on Twitter.

The MEP of the National Rally (RN), Jean-Lin Lacapelle, quipped in these terms: "The ’Great Replacement’ is a fantasy for a large part of the political class, but a reality and a concern for a large majority of French people. [...] Act or disappear!"

Another RN MEP, Nicolas Bay, also stated on Twitter that "the ’Great Replacement’ is a reality experienced and suffered by many French people, and a legitimate concern for the majority of them". The theory was developed by the writer Renaud Camus. Generally denounced as conspiratorial and racist by its detractors, this theory asserts that the French and European population would be gradually replaced by an extra-European immigrant population.

Hiding Saddam Hussein: A documentary about the man who hid Iraq’s dictator
[Rudaw] Kurdish filmmaker Halkawt Mustafa is bringing to the screen the story of the man who hid Iraq’s former dictator. The story is being told for the first time, 18 years after Saddam Hussein was found hiding in a hole in Salahaddin province.

"This movie tells the story of someone who had been everything to Saddam; it talks about his private life with him. This man had been Saddam’s driver, guard, barber, doctor and friend," Mustafa told Rudaw.

Alaa Namiq, 50, hid Hussein for 235 days in a bunker he dug in his garden in Ad-Dawr town before the Americans found him there in 2003.

Mustafa says convincing Namiq to participate in the movie was not easy and he offered him two options, "either not say anything or talk about everything without a filter."

Making the movie was full of challenges and took 10 years. Mustafa said he had to keep his work secret, even the camera operators and people living where he was filming didn’t know what the documentary was about. The secrecy was to protect the safety and privacy of the main character, who is sought by Iraqi and international media.

Mustafa said the story of the bunker had always intrigued him. "It was unbelievable that a man could be hidden like that for eight months in a hole." He found Namiq in early 2010, "through a politician."

They first spoke on the phone in 2010 and met in person in 2013. It took a year for Mustafa to convince Namiq to agree to talk and another three for him to go into details of his life when he was hiding Hussein.

The director refused to reveal the locations where the film was shot, but noted most of the places are real, except for a few scenes that were shot in sites designed to look like the real location.

Mustafa was born in 1985 in Sulaimani city. He is famous for his award-winning 2015 movie El Clasico about two Kurdish brothers who set out on a journey by cycle of violence from the Kurdistan Region to Spain to meet their football hero, Cristiano Ronaldo, and give him a pair of handmade Kurdish shoes known as klash. His two other prominent works are Red Heart and The Women ISIS Fears.

The film, Hiding Saddam Hussein, is produced by the Norwegian Hene Film company and funded by the government of Norway. It is scheduled to hit cinemas in 2022. Rudaw Media Network has exclusive rights to the film in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

"I enjoyed making this film, and the questions I had in my mind, I found the answers through this documentary film," said Mustafa. He believes people will enjoy "seeing an untold story."

Tal Rifaat: Turkey’s next offensive in Syria?
