The CDC Is America's New Landlord
[Mises] This is astonishing, even by 2020 standards.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, operating under the US Department of Health and Human Services, has asserted jurisdiction over private residential leases nationwide. It intends to curtail evictions until at least the end of the year, and in fact its new directive threatens federal criminal penalties against landlords who ignore tenant "declarations" made using CDC forms.
It is unclear, to put it mildly, exactly how this jurisdiction over private contracts and state/local courts flows even to Congress, much less an administrative agency acting on its own. One federal official justifies the bizarre and legally dubious action based on the CDC's broad charter to stop the spread of communicable diseases—a charter at which they've failed miserably with covid:
Congress has delegated broad authority to HHS, the Surgeon General and CDC, to take reasonable efforts to combat the spread of communicable diseases, and frankly I think it makes sense for those authorities abroad because we don't know for any given situation or scenario what steps will be needed to stop the spread. I think, in this particular order, the CDC has made a very compelling case that it is quite problematic at this particular time. It's focused on this particular pandemic, which is obviously the uniquely powerful grasp in the nation's entire history in terms of the effect it's had that for a bunch of reasons in particular, that the home has been sort of the focal point of people social distancing and building, sort of a safe space themselves over the past few months, and also the fact that if people get kicked out, they may end up in overcrowded congregated living facilities or homeless shelters, and that is a potential recipe for a big spread of COVID-19.

#1  ...a charter at which they've failed miserably with covid:

Just following in the step of the Fed which was established to put an end to the 'crashes' of the 19th Century. That would have been two Depressions and a several Recessions ago.

Just another national agency unaccountable to the people, ruling by fiat.

#6  Totally logical next step for the smelly little totalitarians who imposed / still impose the lockdown.

This follows naturally from 5 months of suffocating small businesses (except when servicing Pelosi) and 3 months of handcuffing law enforcement (except when protecting Mayor BugEyes) so that the reactionary running dog petty bourgeoisie is brought to its knees.

Vitiate private contracts and transfer authority to the State apparat.

Next steps: Ban fracking and increase gas taxes to cut down on private mobility and commerce. Trace "contacts" and capture them in a national database run by the Democratic Party with help from their house oligarchs.

Soon: organize industry into Fascist style "corporate" sectors managed by the Party. Requisition grain and other essentials from our contemporary kulaks and wipe them out once and for all

-Land of the Free
A Lesson from Texas
[AmGreatness] My wife and I recently spent a week in the hill country of Texas. What a contrast from life in our California hometown! In Texas, at least in that part of Texas, people mostly didn’t wear masks. In fact, virtually no one did, except for employees serving the public who were required to wear them—waiters, store clerks, and the like.

When we talked with Texans about their decision not to mask up, the replies were much the same. The term "sheep" was often used. The idea was that the American people were being conditioned to get used to and to accept tyrannical rule.

I think the hill country Texans have it about right.

My wife and I live in the California Soviet—which means a kid riding his bike to the beach will be wearing a mask as he pedals his way down a mostly empty street, and the occasional driver going by will also be wearing a mask. Around here, they take this mask business very seriously. It seems like only yesterday when failing to remember to bring your reusable shopping bag to the grocery store elicited the same level of disapproval that going out without a mask does today. The obsession with reusable shopping bags disappeared and quickly was replaced with the mask obsession. Carrying a reusable bag once meant that because you were toeing the line, you were an acceptable person, just as mask-wearing does today.

This strange new attitude of many American citizens has been developing for some time now. The 9/11 horror was used by government officials to oppress citizens just as the Chinese flu has been, and Americans knuckled under with little real pushback.

The only thing as strange as everyone wearing masks are the ridiculous "security" measures imposed on Americans at airports.

When America was attacked by jihadis, the response of the government was to harass travelers. Soon after 9/11, I watched in amazement as TSA agents conducted themselves very carefully so as to avoid being charged with profiling. A group of obviously Middle Eastern young men who weren’t speaking English among themselves—that is, a group of men who perfectly fit the terrorist profile—were waved through while the agents, as I recall, searched for weapons on an elderly woman in a wheelchair and a middle-aged man who looked like a rancher. After 9/11, instead of profiling potential bad guys, the government imposed what has rightly been called "security theater" on American citizens exercising their unalienable right to travel in America. Everyone knows that what goes on at airports in the name of security is a fraud and a huge waste of taxpayer money, but it now seems Americans by and large accept it without question.

The arrival of the Chinese flu has given those who think of themselves as our rulers a new opportunity to exert control over the rest of us who are simply going about our daily lives. Rule-makers are running wild, giving wonderful opportunities to the kind of people who crave the power over others that "public service" provides them and also to the kind of people who, although they are not government employees, are keen to associate themselves with those who make and enforce the rules.

Those rules lately have included imposing house arrests on American citizens who have done nothing wrong, who are simply living in America, and forcing those who dare to venture out to wear masks. People in the media, the elites who get to make the rules, and Americans who are eager to make sure their neighbors comply, don’t seem to mind that the proliferation of rules has been wrecking the economy and destroying people’s lives.

Of course, you already know that the "news" media are in lockstep on the Democratic panic—I mean the pandemic—and that people who challenge the pandemic narrative are being censored on social media. All this seems very un-American, and more like the way people in China behaved during the Cultural Revolution. It wasn’t safe to deviate from the party line in China back then, or for that matter, in China, and increasingly in America, today.

Africa Subsaharan
UN Forced to Admit Gates-funded Vaccine is Causing Polio Outbreak in Africa
[21st Century] This really should be one of the biggest public health scandals of the decade, but instead it’s given little attention — mainly because of the high-profile nature of the people and organisations involved.

The United Nations has been forced to admit that a major international vaccine initiative is actually causing a deadly outbreak of the very disease it was supposed to wipe-out.

While international organisations like the World Health Organization (WHO) will regularly boast about ’eradicating polio’ with vaccines—the opposite seems to be the case, with vaccines causing the deaths of scores of young people living in Africa.

Health officials have now admitted that their plan to stop ’wild’ polio is backfiring, as scores children are being paralyzed by a deadly strain of the pathogen derived from a live vaccine — causing a virulent wave of polio to spread.

This latest pharma-induced pandemic started out in the African countries of Chad and Sudan, with the culprit identified as vaccine-derived polio virus type 2.

Officials now fear this new dangerous strain could soon ‘jump continents,' causing further deadly outbreaks around the world.

Shocking as it sounds, this Big Pharma debacle is not new. After spending some $16 billion over 30 years to eradicate polio, international health bodies have ‘accidentally' reintroduced the disease to in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and also Iran, as the central Asia region was hit by a virulent strain of polio spawned by the a pharmaceutical vaccine. Also, in 2019, the government of Ethiopia ordered the destruction of 57,000 vials of type 2 oral polio vaccine (mOPV2) following a similar outbreak of vaccine-induced polio.

The same incident has happened in India as well.

It's important to note that the oral polio vaccine is being pushed by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), a consortium which is supported and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

All of this should be cause for concern, especially with western governments and transnational pharmaceutical giants all rushing to roll-out their new Gates-funded experimental coronavirus vaccine for the global population.

Currently, the first experimental COVID-19 vaccine is being tested on the African population through GAVI Vaccine Alliance, another organization funded by the Gates Foundation. A large round of human trials is taking place in South Africa, run by the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg‐another Gates-funded institution.

This latest revelation from Africa should prompt journalists and health advocates to ask harder questions about the efficacy and safety of the much-hype COVID ‘miracle' vaccine....

#3  Opinion from the Cantagion:

“cVDPV is extremely rare and occurs when routine or supplementary immunization activities (SIAs) are poorly conducted and a population is left susceptible to poliovirus, whether from vaccine-derived or wild poliovirus,” Jorba said. “Hence, the problem is not with the vaccine itself, but low vaccination coverage. If a population is fully immunized, they will be protected against both vaccine-derived and wild polioviruses.”

Yes, "harder questioning" with regard to the COVID 'miracle' vaccine SHOULD be asked regardless what takes place in Africa.

Nothing personal with regard to University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg or Bill and Melinda, but a close look should be taken at any solutions derived from the current South Africa. Competing agendas could be in play.

Fifth Column
When it comes to denouncing violence, the issue isn't lives vs. property
[WASHINGTONPOST] At the beginning of the summer, it seemed to many commentators as if the riots flaring across the country were beside the point. It’s obvious why people thought it was more important to talk about the death of George Floyd under the knee of police officer Derek Chauvin than the problems of the shopkeepers in various commercial strips that had been looted or burned. Besides, bringing up the riots was apt to invite fierce criticism from people asking why you were comparing lives to property. Now of course Black lives matter, and more than any building. But it’s not as if there is some obvious trade-off between Black lives and buildings that leaves us no choice but to accept looting. The truth is closer to the opposite: Rioting is a political, moral and economic disaster for everyone, and especially for communities of color. While some politicians, including Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Candidate for president in 2020. Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids....
, have made this point, much of the commentariat maintained a decorous silence about what was going on, or retreated to euphemisms about mostly peaceful protests. And the longer both the disorder and the denial have gone on in places such as Portland, Ore., the greater the danger that the riots would, in fact, become the point — for some participants and for an electoral majority.

As this has become clear to commentators, this has opened up political space on the left to say what everyone should have boldly proclaimed all along: Riots damage lives as well as buildings.

For when businesses burn, what is destroyed is not merely a collection of cinder blocks and linoleum. Someone’s patient daily labor ensured that shelves were stocked and toilets cleaned, floors scrubbed and invoices paid, that fretful bank managers were reassured and peevish customers sent away happy. All those years of peoples’ lives, embodied in a physical location, should never be dismissed as mere inanimate "property." Especially if those doing the dismissing have never staked their own life on some similarly unglamorous enterprise tied to a humdrum physical location — and, most particularly, if what was lost can’t really be replaced.

"Oh, but insurance will pay for the damage!" Well, owners of low-margin businesses don’t always carry generous commercial policies. Some let their coverage lapse when the pandemic closed their shops, and some discovered that insurance wouldn’t pay even the cost of demolishing the burned-out hulk of their store. And if insurance does pay enough to rebuild, there is still no guarantee their business will recover, because commercial zones are a whole much greater than the sum of their parts.

When looting and arson leave some owners unable to rebuild, and others reluctant to try, even those who want to rebuild will often worry about attracting customers to locations surrounded by burned-out hulks. This ultimately carries us beyond the suffering of petit-bourgeois store owners and into the ocean of trouble that afflicts communities when the businesses they depend upon disappear.

Five years after the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, there were still boarded-up stores in Ferguson, Mo. Yet Ferguson had comparatively good conditions for recovery: The damage was isolated to one city, the broader national economy was strong and getting stronger, and there was plenty of state, federal and private money to assist with rebuilding.

When external conditions aren’t good, recovery can take much longer. The riots that followed the liquidation of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. occurred in cities that were already hollowed out by suburban exodus. Many well-insured businesses used their insurance payments to move to suburban shopping malls; underinsured businesses closed. As late as 2007, when I first moved to D.C., there were still major retail districts that were just recovering from the 1968 riots.

The people who suffer when retail strips shut down aren’t the affluent, the class of people who can assume that insurance solves all problems. Those people move. It’s the ones who depend on the social capital of a neighborhood, rather than the financial capital of a market, who ultimately are hurt the worst. A disproportionate number of those people are Black and brown. Research suggests the 1960s riots decreased Black employment rates well into the 1970s, with the effect growing larger over time. And so, instead of expressing righteous rage at collective injustice, rioting ultimately becomes an instrument of suffering and systemic inequality.

The urban business districts of 2020 are also facing a dire external threat, which riots stand poised to exacerbate. No one should treat "Riots are bad" as a counterargument to "Black Lives Matter." Rather, it is a counterpart — the smaller part, perhaps, but nonetheless a vital one.

Home Front: Politix
The Dems Plan to Steal the Presidency
[American Thinker] It comes as a stark and frightening realization that the Democrats are not the idiots they appear to be. Stark, because they tried to use the Steele Dossier, a folder full of ridiculous and easily debunked rumor and imaginative narrative, to at first steal an election and then, depose a president. And they are now trying to convince Americans that "law and order" Trump, who has decried the riots from the beginning and offered federal support to Democrat-run cities and states to stop them, is somehow now responsible for all the destruction and violence. It is obvious they think Americans are the stupid ones.

It is frightening because the realization comes with an understanding that the Democrats have a many-faceted plan to steal the Presidential Election, now less than two months away.

They tried everything in Trump’s first term, from the aforementioned dossier to the "phone call" impeachment. None of it worked. Then, the disease from the despicable Chinese befell America. It was a tragedy for America but a stroke of luck for Democrats.

They have used the pandemic to so frighten the nation into serial semi-permanent shutdowns intended to so immiserate Americans through the destroyed economy as to cost Trump the election. And mephitic Dems have tried to blame their intention to maintain perpetual lockdowns on Trump’s mismanagement of COVID.

The rioting was another fortuitous opportunity for Dems. With the coopting of the BLAME (Black, Latin, Antifa, and Minority Excluded) agenda as their own, they hoped to keep support for the rioting high enough to continue through the election, thereby allowing the Dems to use the rioters as stormtroopers at the polls in November to deny Trump voters their right to vote. Of course, they mistook sympathy for a cause as support for the violence and destruction and are only now coming to the epiphany that would seem to have obvious non-epiphany status to non-morons: People don’t like their lives, families, property, and livelihoods threatened by violent anarchists who will never be pleased no how much they are given.

Oh... and Americans as a group are loath to surrender to outsiders breaking and burning their stuff as they prosecute bodily harm to their loved ones. And now that the polls are turning against the rioters, it may seem idiotic that the Dems are trying to blame Trump for the riotous havoc laying waste to our cities they have fomented and excused for months, if not years.

Yet, it is all part of their plan.

#9  ^ ... and actual role-play simulations in which Hillary's former campaign manager, playing the role of Biden, war-gamed a new Civil War in which the Democrat alleged vote suppression and instigated the secession of Cali, OR and WA.

Not Bee:

"Mr Podesta, playing Mr Biden, shocked the organizers by saying he felt his party wouldn’t let him concede. Alleging voter suppression, he persuaded the governors of Wisconsin and Michigan to send pro-Biden electors to the Electoral College.

"that scenario, California, Oregon, and Washington then threatened to secede from the United States if Mr Trump took office as planned."

#10  But wait - there's more!

Here's Democrat John Podesta's civil war game Scenario #3:

This scenario is a clear and convincing Trump win i.e. Trump wins the Electoral College and the popular vote. Hers the NYT account of Podesta's simulation of what the Biden team would do in this event:

SCENARIO 3 - SIMULATION per JOHN PODESTA

NYT:
'The [simulated] Biden campaign encouraged Western states, particularly California but also Oregon and Washington and collectively known as “Cascadia” to secede from the union unless Congressional Republicans agreed to a set of structural reforms to fix our democratic system to ensure majority rule.'

'With advice from President Obama, the Biden Campaign submitted a proposal to 1) give statehood to Washington, DC and Puerto Rico; 2) divide California into five states to more accurately represent the population in the Senate; 3) require Supreme Court Justices retire at 70; and 4) eliminate the Electoral College, to ensure the candidate who wins the popular vote…’

‘One of the most consequential moves was that Team Biden on January 6 provoked a breakdown in the joint session of Congress by getting the House of Representatives to agree to award the presidency to Biden (based on the alternative pro-Biden submissions sent by pro-Biden governors.) Pence and the GOP refused to accept this, declaring instead that Trump was re-elected under the Constitution because of his Electoral College victory. This partisan division remained unresolved because neither side backed down, and January 20 arrived without a single president-elect entitled to be Commander-in-Chief after noon that day. It was unclear what the military would do in this situation.’

Which can only be done with the active cooperation of the GOPe.

So we're doomed to ugly things happening no matter what.

Barring something unforeseen, unfortunately, is the consensus of my campfire crew.

However, I have been making the case that a Biden/whoever win would be worse by legitimizing the current tactics, basically confirming the civil insurrection as a valid tactic, along with all the tactics.

Plugs releases latest update on light bulbs and more during visit to Kenosha, WI
[NYP] Joe Biden’s town hall event in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Thursday was marred by a number of controversial and eyebrow-raising incidents, including the Democratic candidate claiming that the light bulb was not invented by Thomas Edison, and a questioner refusing to adhere to a pre-written script she was "told to go off."

Biden said during the event that a black man invented the light bulb — and "not a white guy named Edison."

Biden, 77, made the claim while speaking Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, where he met residents following a 90-minute private session with Jacob Blake’s family, a meeting that Blake joined by phone, according to attorney Ben Crump.

"I cannot guarantee everything gets solved in four years, but I guarantee you one thing: It will be a whole heck of a lot better" if he’s elected in November, Biden promised. "We will move a lot further down the road."

#2  "I cannot guarantee everything gets solved in four years, but I guarantee you one thing: It will be a whole heck of a lot better"

He and his Democratic buddies have been making this very same promise for 47+ years now. Eight of which he has been VP to a black President. They have done nothing.

Richard Grenell Unloads on Corrupt MSM: 'People Aren't Listening to You Anymore'
[PJ] President Trump scored another diplomatic victory this week, announcing the "normalization" of economic relations between Serbia and Kosovo.

The New York Post:
President Trump on Friday hosted the leaders of Serbia and breakaway republic Kosovo for the signing of a landmark economic normalization agreement.

Trump, seated behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, presided as Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and Serbia President Aleksandar Vučić inked the deal, seated at desks on either side of Trump.

Kosovo broke away from Serbia with US assistance following a genocidal war waged by then-Serbian strongman Slobodan Milošević. In 2008, Kosovo unilaterally declared independence, following de facto independence since 1999.

"Serbia and Kosovo have each committed to economic normalization," Trump told reporters, signaling a breakthrough after a deep freeze in relations between the countries.
Seems like the kind of thing that should be celebrated by all Americans but we live in the dumbest and most partisan of times. The mainstream media can’t celebrate anything Trump-related and, predictably, was tedious again when given a chance to ask questions about the agreement.

Enter Richard Grenell, the current special presidential envoy for Serbia and Kosovo peace negotiations, who has become one of the president’s most ardent and vocal advocates. He never passes up a chance to remind the media that they’re irresponsible and awful.

Grenell participated in a press conference to discuss the agreement and quickly grew weary of the childish tediousness of the press corps.

Study Finds Moving Up Election Day Would Instantly End Pandemic
[Babylon Bee] As promises and rumors of a coming vaccine for COVID-19 continue to swirl, health experts across the country are recommending an additional action they believe will provide an end to the virus's grip on the nation. Leading doctors suggest moving the presidential election to an earlier date.

"It's evident from our studies that this virus has an expiration date: November 3," said one epidemiologist. "If we move the election day up, this whole thing will instantly go away."

For months, Americans have assumed the lack of a vaccine was the only thing holding the nation back from opening up, but an analysis of the data by researchers confirms the only real threat is candidates using scare tactics to make things seem worse than they really are.

"Believe me," the doctor said. "Nobody likes pandemics more than we do, but even we're ready to move on from this one. Let's just get the vote over with and move on."

The CDC cautioned that the doctors' advice won't necessarily work, as they've got a few more pandemics in the hopper to ensure they keep their funding.
