The Week in Guns, A Passage
Because of life changes and changes in technology, after five years I am shutting down the weekly This Week in Guns.

It was a passage for me mostly because of how much I learned with respect to guns, and how far I was able to take this as far as I did. It was a passage for Trailing Wife as well, who I hold in great esteem and gratitude for her editing and her insistence on excellence in the English language.

What I did learn through all of this is that AR-15 and AR-10 prices are as low as they have ever been, and our local homegrown fascists continue to press for taking guns away, from all citizens, law abiding or not.

In a just world, their corpses would be rotting away from swinging from lamp posts all over America for their attempts.

None of this would be possible without Fred and his platform. A discussion ensued about how some of the mods found Rantburg back in the day. I said I stumbled in one day, or maybe staggered in.

The truth is I found a link to Rantburg via Emperor Misha I.

I hope in some way I have changed views on the subject of guns and the right to keep and bear arms, and that it somehow will spread.

#1  Badanov——-I appreciate your many articles related to guns and issues brought to light. I learned a lot during that time, thanks to your high protein paragraphs. Many thanks!

#2  Ahh, I'm going to miss this column. I also hold the "Week in Guns" in great esteem. I have learned quite a bit from you and I hope you will keep posting gun related articles and news as they come up.

Fair winds Badanov and be well.

#6  Thank you. As with many others here, I will miss your weekly column. I really enjoyed your commentary and the rather wishful thinking over the gun of the week. It will be missed.

#7  It will be missed, Badanov!

#8  Thank you Badanov for a great column and keeping up with 2nd amendment issues and firearms/ammo prices. You are greatly appreciated. Good luck to you in whatever you do after "The Week in Guns."

#9  Has it been five years already? I didn’t realize. Starting in 2010 you reported* on the narco gangs down in Mexico, translating from local reports, and then the Ukrainian civil war, for which you also translated from local reports in both Ukrainian and Russian. It has been a joy to play copy editor for you in each incarnation, badanov — I’ve learnt so much as you responded to my questions about both content and phrasing choices, and I am delighted by how well you’ve internalized my feedback; you leave me very little to add nowadays. I realize your life has taken a busy turn, my dear, but I look forward to whatever next attracts your reportorial attention.

* For those interested, the Mexican reports are collected in three volumes, available from all the usual internet sources. See here.

#10  Thanks Bad. The week in guns always looked like a lot of work, so I religiously read it. I appreciate your efforts, and hope you are not TOO busy.

Mark Levin: John McCain Funeral Coverage ‘Seems a Little Over the Top' (video)
[Breitbart] Conservative talker Mark Levin told listeners of his nationally syndicated radio show Thursday that media coverage of the late Sen. John McCain’s memorial services "has gone on a little too long," and "seems a little over the top."

Transcript is as follows:

And I say this with the deepest of sincerity – and I don’t want calls on this, by the way: Am I the only person in America who thinks the passing of McCain and the news coverage has gone on a little too long and it’s a little too much? Really, you can honor somebody, but this is going on day after day after day after day after day. And I don’t say this out of any animus whatsoever, period. Why do some public officials get this kind of treatment – Kennedy, McCain, so forth – and others get no treatment whatsoever. You’ve probably never even heard of them, probably weren’t on TV as much as say McCain or Lindsey Graham and so forth.

#1  Agreed. I caught about a minute of this at the local grocery store yesterday morning, and the speaker was going on and on and on about how wonderful McCain is, and that part was definitely over the top, almost nauseatingly so. The cherry on top of it all? Paul Ryan sitting in the front row, smiling the whole time.

#2  The MSM seems to be gushing and fawning over McCain. It is way over the top.

Are they talking about same John McCain? Isn't this the same guy who told Sen. John Cornyn "F#2k You" on the Senate floor over an immigration bill?--the mean-spirited, vindictive, strident one?

I guess most funerals tend to varnish over flaws.

#3  Levin is correct.

#4  I look forward to the end of the story, so we can go back to non-stop, full time, 24-7 Trump-thumping.

#5  It's done to tweak Trump and encourage future "mavericks".

#6  Media and Dems oved McCain except for that one year, when he was worse than Satan.
Posted by: Glenmore || 09/01/2018 14:16 Comments || Top||

#7  Its because he was such a friend of the left and when he wasn't a friend of the left he was a DC one party, self serving politician, but I repeat myself.

#8  Crafting one's own funeral attendance list was a key indicator.
Posted by: Besoeker || 09/01/2018 16:27 Comments || Top||

#9  Sampling of the 'deep state' creatures who were invited to attend the funeral. Yet another indicator.

American Bar Association Gives Kavanaugh Unanimous ‘Well-Qualified' Rating
[NR] The American Bar Association on Friday awarded Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh its highest rating, giving the judge a unanimous "well-qualified" score.

"The rating of ’Well Qualified’ is reserved for those found to merit the Committee’s strongest affirmative endorsement," the ABA states in its description of the ranking process.

Kavanaugh, President Trump’s pick to replace retiring justice Anthony Kennedy, will launch into what is expected to be a contentious four-day confirmation process before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. Senate Democrats have threatened to tank his nomination, and have requested millions of pages of documents from his tenure as staff secretary to President George W. Bush.

Of particular concern to his Democratic critics are his apparent view that a sitting president cannot be indicted and his views on health care and abortion. Abortion-rights advocates are worried the D.C. Circuit Court judge would vote to overturn the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade if it were relitigated.
