Looted Baltimore Sports Shop Institutes New Minimum Wage: $0
[The Daily Caller] Looks like a few Charm City capitalists need to check their white privilege. Well, they should've thought about that before they ran a business in a town where a black guy died in police custody, right? Now let's hear some more about a lack of economic opportunities. Let's hear some more about giving people jobs.

The only thing more insane than this behavior is making excuses for it. This is how cities die.

US protesters defy curfew in Baltimore
[Iran Press TV] Clashes erupted between coppers and hundreds of protesters in the US city of Baltimore following days of demonstrations against police brutality in the country.

Police fired smoke bombs and tear gas to disperse the protesters who defied a curfew that took effect across the city late Tuesday.

The city is in turmoil after an African-American was killed of injuries suffered from coppers.

Freddie Gray, 25, was killed on April 19 and his funeral was held on Monday. The black man died one week after his spinal injury during arrest.

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake imposed the curfew in response to the ongoing protests.

Navy mids protect families caught in B'more riots
A patio chair smashed the sandwich shop window. Glass fell around Midshipman Brad Kadlubowski, seated before a window, at the Subway shop in Baltimore.

Inside, a father steered his wife and two children to the back of the shop on Saturday. His son has asthma; the father worried about tear gas.

Another chair smashed another window.

Everyone to the back, the midshipmen instructed.

Families and Naval Academy midshipmen had come for dinner before Saturday's Orioles game. Protests over the death of Freddie Gray began peacefully that day, but ended with confrontation. By Monday, the day of Gray's funeral, protests escalated with violence. At least seven officers were injured Monday afternoon and the Orioles game was postponed.

Some midshipmen didn't know about the ongoing protests when they arrived Saturday in Baltimore.

"I didn't realize it would be so close to Camden Yards," said Midshipman Madisen Grinnell, 18, of Sacramento, Calif., on Monday.

She and nine other midshipmen found themselves caught in the protests. These midshipmen directed families to the back of the Subway. Then they lined up, in front of families, as protesters passed outside, some throwing rocks. Women and children gathered farthest from the windows, except for Grinnell, the only female there from the Naval Academy.

"You're in the military and a midshipmen — you should be in the front," she insisted.

Kadlubowski, of Colorado Springs, Colo., was uninjured when glass fell around him. He escorted the store manager to the door.

"I made sure he could lock the door without problem," Kadlubowski said.

About 20 civilians sheltered, in the back of the Subway, while protesters passed. Some protesters waved their middle fingers, said Midshipman Erik Sabelstrom, 19, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

"It was kind of intimidating," he said.

Within minutes, the protesters passed. No one was injured in the Subway shop. A trash can outside was set on fire. And the midshipmen left in a hurry for the safety of the stadium. First, they removed their jackets and caps and shoulder boards, fearing they may be mistaken and targeted for police officers. Baltimore Police have said they believe gangs are targeting officers.
Only mistake these great young people made. Wear the uniform and look the scum in the eye.
On Monday, academy officials received an email from a grateful father in the Subway shop.

"The plebes were the last to seek safety and only did so after they made sure all others were safely away from the windows," wrote Robert Oshinsky of Montgomery County. "My wife and children were scared but I believe a little less so as a result of the actions."

Oshinsky huddled over his family in the back of the restaurant.

"This might have been two minutes, but it felt like an eternity," he said. "(Midshipmen) helped make a very scary situation less scary."

The midshipmen left the baseball game early and returned without incident to the Naval Academy.

"I don't think it occurred to any of us that we were doing anything special," Sabelstrom said.

Social media analysis suggests links between Baltimore and Ferguson violence
[FOX] - An analysis of social media traffic in downtown Baltimore Monday has unearthed striking connections to the protests in Ferguson, Mo. last year, according to a leading data mining firm that shared its findings exclusively with Fox News.
As reported by a Private Social Media and network analysis firm.... NOT the U.S. Gov't, whose job it is to monitor, track, analyze, and disseminate such activity to law enforcement.
The firm, which asked to remain anonymous because of its government work, found between 20 and 50 social media accounts in Baltimore that were also tied to the peak period of violence in Ferguson. While further analysis is being conducted on the data, it suggests the presence of "professional protesters" or anarchists taking advantage of Freddie Gray's death to incite more violence.
I suspect their 'gov't work' will begin drying up very soon, possibly tomorrow morning.
Gray, 25, died April 18, a week after being injured while in police custody. A wave of violence erupted in Baltimore following his funeral Monday.

One account, which also tracked the recent union protests in New York City as well as other disturbances, tweeted photos of Gray's funeral and used language that seemed to anticipate violence in Baltimore.

The discovery that some social media accounts were tied to cities 825 miles apart was described to Fox News as "surprising." While it is possible to spoof accounts and make it appear as if someone is in one location when they are really in another, the data mining firm told Fox News that it can't fully explain the numbers.

Viet Cong Commandos Sank an American Aircraft Carrier
It was shortly after midnight when two Viet Cong commandos emerged from a sewer tunnel that emptied into Saigon Port, each man carrying nearly 90 pounds of high explosives and the components needed to make two time bombs.

Their target was the largest American ship in port, USNS Card. An escort carrier that saw distinguished service as a submarine-hunter in the North Atlantic during World War II, during the early morning hours of May 2, 1964, Card was part of U.S. Military Sealift Command.

#2  Headline and article are inaccurate. This was not a Navy aircraftcarrier, except in a very literal meaning that would also fit a similarly purposed barge. it was a civilian auxiliary ship, and it was an aircraft transporter, not operational. Also it was docked, an was in only 20 feet of water when it was holed, and did not have a navy crew on board for DC.

Forest blaze breaks out near Chernobyl nuclear plant
[Iran Press TV] A forest fire has broken out in the exclusion zone around Ukraine's abandoned Chernobyl nuclear power plant, officials say.
Meet Pasco, Kennewik, and Richland, the rare Columbia River three headed frog.
"The fire is at a distance of 15 to 20 kilometers from Chernobyl," said Maya Rudenko, a spokesperson for the plant, adding that Tuesday's fire was "no problem" and posed no risk to the heavily contaminated former nuclear plant.

According to Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, about 400 hectares of forest has been alight in the exclusion zone around the plant.

Authorities suspect the fire was ignited intentionally and have tightened security around exclusion zone, Avakov further added.

Africa Subsaharan
2 killed, 200 detained in Burundi protests
[AA.TR] At least two people have been killed in two days of protests in Burundi against President Pierre Nkurunziza's plan to run for a third term in office.

"Two protesters were killed and six others injured in the protests," Prime Niyongabo, head of the Burundian Defense Forces, told a presser on Tuesday.

He said 37 coppers had also been injured in the disturbances.

Since Sunday, Burundi has been shaken by street protests after the ruling National Council for the Defense of Democracy (CNDD-FDD) named Nkurunziza, in power since 2005, as its candidate for June presidential polls.

Niyongabo said more than 200 protesters were tossed into the calaboose for possessing hand grenades and knives.

He went on to urge Burundians to provide information about anyone suspected of holding illegal weapons.

On Tuesday, protests continued for the third day in a row, spilling over from the capital into the country's second biggest city.

Protests were reported in Bujumbura and -- for the first time -- in Gitega, located some 120km from the capital, an Anadolu Agency correspondent reported.

In Bujumbura, residents of the urban Nyakabiga commune blocked the main road with burning tires, while army troops stationed nearby looked on passively, one demonstrator told The Anadolu Agency.

One protester in Bujumbura's Mutakura district, for his part, said that all schools, shops and banks had been closed for the second day in a row due to the ongoing tensions.

On March 20, Nkurunziza proposed a constitutional amendment that would allow him to run for a third presidential term, sparking controversy across the central African nation.

Despite parliament's rejection of the proposal, the bill, according to the country's laws, can still be brought before the assembly for a second vote.

Critics say a third-term bid by Nkurunziza would violate the terms of the 2000 Arusha agreement, which, along with ending a Hutu-Tutsi civil war, stipulated that Burundi's president should serve no more than two terms.

Burundi tells foreign envoys to stay neutral over unrest
[REUTERS] Burundi's government told diplomats on Tuesday to stay neutral and not side with protesters who accuse President Pierre Nkurunziza of violating the constitution by announcing he will seek a third term in office.

Hundreds of protesters erupted into the streets for a third straight day and were confronted by police firing teargas and shots in the air, as Burundi faced its worst political crisis since the end of an ethnically fuelled civil war in 2005.

The United States, other Western nations and regional African countries had pushed Nkurunziza, 51, not to seek a third term. Washington said it was disappointed he was doing so and warned it would take steps against those behind any violence.

Ukrainian volunteer units refuse to join army

As both sides of the civil war in southeastern Ukraine continue to fire on the other, and accuse the other of provocations, one issue continues to dog both sides as to a peaceful settlement, the participation of private volunteer military units for the Ukrainian sides.

When Dnepropetrovsk governor Igor Kolomoisky resigned his seat last month, a casualty of Kolomoisky's political demise was said to be the volunteer military units, privately funded military units, Kiev have used against the Russian backed rebels with mixed success.

Last March 24th, several armed individuals were detained by Ukrainian security services in western Ukraine, when a three truck convoy attempted by bypass a security checkpoint near the Ukrainian held town of Volnovakha. A subsequent firefight ended with the death of one Ukrainian security officer, and the seizure of a cargo of illegal alcohol and tobacco, bound for rebel held Donetsk city.

The individuals detained were said to be members of the Dnepr-1 volunteer battalion, a private military unit funded by Kolomoisky. Several such units had been used by Ukrainian military commanders since the very start of the civil war, but now with the fall of Kolomoisky, it seemed that those unit would be folded into the ranks of the Ukrainian regulars.

Last April 1st, another unit, the Azov Regiment had been ordered to disarm and to leave the Mariupol defense zone, or have its command structure integrated into the Ukrainian Army. At the time, it was said that all private units, colloquially called punisher units by rebels, were said to have been ordered integrated into the Ukrainian military structure of disband.

Originally -- and as it turned out, mysteriously -- Kiev denied the ultimatum was delivered to Azov's commanders, inasmuch as the commanders themselves at the time said they would refuse any such order.

For the Azov Regiment, at least, the reaction was outrage and a refusal to comply, for several reasons, but mostly because those volunteers consider the Ukrainian Army communications compromised.

This writer since that time had read several accounts, where private units refused to comply with orders to integrate themselves into the Ukrainian Army command structure.

Another unit, deployed near to Peski, near western Donetsk city, had been ordered to leave the area earlier in April, but subsequently refused to do so, as did the Azov regiment.

"Help a brother out"

According to a news account in regnum.ru, with data supplied by the Donetsk ministry of defense spokesman Lt. Colonel Eduard Basurin, rebel unit commanders in Shirokino, one of the most hotly contested areas in Donetsk, claimed to have received a cell phone call from Ukrainian Army commanders last Sunday asking rebel commanders to begin shelling Azov regiment units in far western Shirokino and in eastern Mariupol city.

The caller told rebel commanders, according to Basurin, that Azov regiment commanders have refuse orders, and are committing crimes against civilians.

Since the start of the February 12th ceasefire, rebel commanders and political leaders have made much of their claim to have refused to return artillery fire against Ukrainian artillery units.

According to a separate regum.ru news account, the volunteer unit in Peski, called the "Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists" (OUN), was ordered Sunday to give up their weapons, which they had previously refused to do. Rebel reports at the time said that the unit had prepared to leave, but for some reason not included in reports, had not done so.

From reports on the rebel and Ukrainian side, rebels apparently made a special exception to their "regime of silence" to shell positions of the OUN as they were leaving.

However on Monday, according to the regnum.ru report, Ukrainian military units maneuvered and surrounded elements of the OUN before its commanders complied, gave up their weapons and then left the area.

Historically, the original OUN namesake was a pro Ukrainian nationalist group with a long past dating back to the late 1920s, just a few years before the Soviet collectivization campaign. The current group has its roots in the Right Sector political movement, which is one of the most vociferous supporters of the Maidan Ukrainian government in Kiev.

Right Sector itself is one of the most reviled political groups in Ukraine by Russian backed rebels. Russian and rebel media said it was Right Sector activists who participated in the murder of several ethnic Russians in Odessa one year ago.

According to rebel reports, at least one other volunteer unit remains in Peski, the Dnepr 1 Regiment.

Right Sector Disarms

Meanwhile on Monday in the Dnepropetrovsk oblast, elements of the Ukrainian 25th Parachute Brigade and the 95th Airmobile Brigade, began setting up checkpoints around Right Sector headquarters near the town of Velikomikhailovka Pokrovsky, according to a news account on the pro Ukrainian website tsensor.net.

The action effectively surrounded Velikomikhailovka Pokrovsky, an operation that Right Sector leader Dmitri Yarosh said violated Ukrainian law, which apparently forbids Ukrainian military operations outside the Anti Terrorist Operation (ATO) zone in southeastern Ukraine.

Yuri Butusov editor of tsensor.net said that at least one vehicle with armed individuals belonging to Right Sector was stopped and forced to disarm. Yuri Butusov said that an attempt to contact the Ukrainian Army chief of Staff Viktor Muzhenko had failed before the story was posted on tsensor.net.

According to the story, Yarosh, after contacting an unidentified commander of one of the units about the checkpoints, agreed that vehicles in the area would not pass armed.

Vatican, U.N. join forces against climate change
[USATODAY] Top officials from the Vatican, the head of the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
and leading scientists came together at a summit Tuesday in Vatican City to label the fight against man-made climate change as a "moral issue."

"Mitigating climate change and adapting to its effects are necessary to eradicate extreme poverty, reduce inequality and secure equitable, sustainable economic development," said Ban Ki Moon, U.N. secretary-general, in the keynote speech.

"It is a moral issue. It is an issue of social justice, human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
and fundamental ethics," Ki-Moon said, adding that "climate change is the defining issue of our time."

The summit, arranged by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, is the prologue to Pope Francis' June encyclical -- one of the highest forms of papal expression -- that will promote climate change action, framing it as a moral and religious imperative.

Media sez eight (8) Indonesian drug peddlers now Tango Uniform
[Rooters] Eight drug-trafficking convicts from several countries were executed by an Indonesian firing squad shortly after midnight on Wednesday, media said, but a Filipina who was on death row with them was unexpectedly spared at the last minute.

There was no immediate official confirmation that the eight men had been executed.

Earlier, Jakarta rejected last-ditch pleas from around the world for clemency to be granted the drug traffickers from Nigeria, Australia, Brazil and Indonesia, ordering their mass execution to proceed within hours.

A spokesman for the Attorney General's Office said the execution of Mary Jane Veloso, a mother of two who was arrested in 2010 after she arrived in Indonesia with 2.6 kg of heroin hidden in her suitcase, had been delayed.
Quite sad actually. They were reported to have sung gospel hymns as the bullets flew.

Perhaps if they made heroin legal on prescription to registered addicts and treated it like a health problem that would take away the money incentive from the criminal gangs.

Texas Guard to Monitor US Military Jade Helm 15 Operations
Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the Texas Guard to monitor federal military exercises in Texas after some citizens have lit up the Internet saying the maneuvers are actually the prelude to martial law.

The operation causing rampant suspicions is a new kind of exercise involving elite teams such as the SEALS and Green Berets from four military branches training over several states from July 15 to Sept. 15

Called Jade Helm 15, the exercise is one of the largest training operation done by the military in response to what it calls the evolving nature of warfare. About 1,200 special operations personnel will be involved and move covertly among the public. They will use military equipment to travel between seven southwestern states from Texas and California.

Abbott (Governor of Texas) apparently has heard the concern and ordered the Guard to monitor the training and U.S. military personnel.

"To address concerns of Texas citizens and ensure that Texas communities remain safe, secure and informed about military procedures occurring in their vicinity, I am directing the TExas State Guard to monitor Operation Jade Helm 15," Abbott wrote in his letter to the commander of the Texas Guard.
