First Snow For Minnesota, North Dakota and Montana
Cold air, wintry winds and even the first snow of the season will sweep from Montana to Minnesota during the middle of the week. The first big blast of arctic air will arrive in the Canada Prairies and Rockies during the first part of the week and then cross the border into Montana and the Dakotas at midweek, accompanied by gusty winds and even the first snow of the season for many areas.

According to Expert Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski, "Rain showers will become mixed with and change to snow moving southward along the Alberta foothills Tuesday and Tuesday night, where a few centimeters of snow can accumulate."

Tuesday night into Wednesday, the cold push and snow will arrive in Montana.

"Great Falls and Billings can pick up a couple of inches of snow," Sosnowski said, "This will be the first snow of the season for some areas away from the high country."

The cold push and rain changing to snow will then reach eastward over portions of the Dakotas and northwestern Minnesota spanning Wednesday and Thursday. A swath of accumulating snow, averaging an inch or two will redevelop over parts of central and eastern North Dakota, northwestern Minnesota and neighboring portions of Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.
So folks take it from Alex; So snow - ski !

Protests, strikes grip central Tunisia
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] Hundreds of people demonstrated in central Tunisia on Monday against the government's failure to improve living conditions, as teachers went on strike to denounce the arrest of protesters.

In Sidi Bouzid, birthplace of last year's Tunisian revolution, protesters marched through the town to the provincial government headquarters, shouting slogans against the ruling Islamists and demanding the governor's resignation, an AFP correspondent said.

The social unrest also spread to the region of Kasserine, another key site of the 2011 uprising, where a general strike in protest at marginalisation and soaring unemployment paralysed the Laayoune locality.

last Wednesday, after several days of protests against unemployment and the high cost of living, with more activists picked up the following day.

A general strike was held on Saturday in the nearby locality of Menzel Bouzaiane to demand the release of the protesters.

Three MPs from Sidi Bouzid announced that they were starting a hunger strike at the National Constituent Assembly in Tunis to pressure the authorities to free the protesters.

Egypt releases anti-Islamist TV presenter
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] Egyptian authorities have released television presenter Tawfiq Okasha, who is on trial for incitement to kill the president and was tossed in the clink
You have the right to remain silent...
on separate charges, a security source said on Monday.

Okasha, who heads his own TV channel, was tossed in the clink
You have the right to remain silent...
on Sunday for former convictions passed in absentia, after visiting a cop shoppe to check on the status of his court case for alleged incitement to kill President Mohamed Morsi.

He was notified of two six-month convictions for issuing bad cheques and one-month terms for stealing electricity, and was then released again after spending nine hours in jug, according to the security source.

At the start of his trial on September 1, Okasha denied calling for the murder of the country's Islamist president.

"I merely criticised President Morsi," Tawfiq Okasha told judges. "This is a political trial. The Moslem Brüderbund wants to silence all dissent and reproduce the system from before the revolution."

Ex-Ivorian leader's spokesman charged with murder in Ghana
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] Ghanaian authorities on Monday charged the front man for Ivory Coast's ex-leader Laurent Gbagbo
... Former President-for-Life of Ivory Coast from 2000 to 2011. Laurent lost to Alassane Ouattara in 2010 but his representtive tore up the results on the teevee and he refused to vacate the presidential palace. French troops assisted the Oattara forces in extricating him from his Fuhrerbunker...
with murder following a warrant from his home country, days after he was granted bail while awaiting an extradition hearing.

Justin Kone Katinan's lawyer Patrick Sogbodjor said that while the alleged murder was committed in Ivory Coast, prosecutors charged him in Accra as a procedural move to keep him in jug after his earlier release on bail.

Authorities declined to further explain the seemingly unorthodox move, referring questions to a police front man who did not respond to phone calls.

Katinan was granted bail at an extradition hearing on September 25 as he is wanted in the Ivory Coast on charges for economic crimes. But then he was re-tossed in the clink
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
on Friday on the murder charges, which stemmed from a fresh warrant issued by Ivorian authorities the same day he was granted bail.

On Monday, he was charged with three counts of conspiracy and the murder of two men in Abidjan in March last year.

Desire Dallo, a former minister in Ivory Coast currently being tossed in the clink
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
in his home country, was also said to be facing the same charges.

Bangladesh
No graft in AL rule PM claims at NY media briefing
[Bangla Daily Star] Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
...Bangla dynastic politician and current Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She has been the President of the Bangla Awami League since 1981. She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She has once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide...
has said there has been no corruption in any sector, including the power and energy, during the present government's tenure.

Responding to queries at a meet-the-press in New York on Sunday, she said, "Conspiracies are going on against the country and we are facing those strongly.

"But there was no corruption in any sector, including the power, during our tenure."

Hasina said her government's stance against corruption was very clear as it had assumed power to ensure welfare of the common people.

About the next general election, the premier assured that there would be no voter-less election in the country like that of the February 15 (1996).

People would participate in the election along with other political parties, even BNP, she added.

Describing the oppressive acts carried out on different sections of people during the caretaker regime, Hasina questioned, "Have you forgotten the activities of the caretaker government? Do you want to return to that situation?"

The election in the country would be held like the elections held under the parliamentary system of democracy in the world, she told the newsmen.

Replying to a query, the premier voiced her high optimism about winning the next general election by her party, saying, "We are optimistic about the next election. We will win, Inshallah."

Asked about the progress of the journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder case, Hasina said the perpetrators would be brought to justice one day, 'Inshallah'.

She said police were earlier investigating the Sagar-Runi murder case. But, after the directives of the High Court, the Rab had been given the charge to conduct a fresh investigation into it.

Traders beat up DB men
[Bangla Daily Star] Drug traders confined and beat up three plainclothes personnel of Detective Branch (DB) as they allegedly took bribes during a raid on some drug stores on Mitford Road in Old Dhaka yesterday.

Incensed by the frequent bribe demands, several hundred traders of around 20 drug and chemical markets rolled down the shutters of their shops for around two and a half hours from 1:30pm.
There is a very small difference between all the market will bear and "Hey, rube!" with lashings of crowbar.
They erupted into the streets chanting slogans against the DB men accusing the law enforcers of taking bribes in the name of conducting drives for contraband drugs.

Failing in the first attempt to rescue the three, a police reinforcement team accompanied by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) reached the spot around 2:30pm and rescued the DB men.

Traders said a team of about eight DB personnel reached Rahim Market on Mitford Road around 12:30pm and took a bribe of Tk 50,000 from a shop owner. They demanded bribe from two other shops in two nearby markets.

As the news spread, traders and employees from the adjacent markets thronged the Rahim Market and chased the DB team.

Sensing imminent danger, three of the team took shelter at BCDM Bhaban on the road and locked the gate of the market, while the others managed to flee.

The agitating traders damaged a drug store, SA Traders, in the market as its employees give the DB men shelter, said witnesses.

The agitators eventually managed to enter the market. They caught hold of the DB men and gave them a sound thrashing.

Georgia Opposition Chief Declares Victory in Parliamentary Polls
[An Nahar] Georgia's billionaire-led coalition was leading President Mikheil Saakashvili's ruling party in parliamentary elections Monday according to exit polls, but it was unclear which will win the final majority.

Two separate exit polls for Georgian television gave preliminary figures putting tycoon Bidzina Ivanishvili's Georgian Dream coalition ahead in the proportional-vote section of the contest by five or 10 percent.

Ivanishvili confidently declared victory but the final vote percentages may not necessarily be reflected in parliamentary seats because almost half of mandates are decided on a first-past-the-post rather than a proportional representation system that provided the basis for the exit polls.

The showdown between Saakashvili's ruling United National Movement and the Georgian Dream coalition led by Ivanishvili has turned increasingly bitter after a prison torture scandal prompted nationwide protests.
