-Lurid Crime Tales-
Maid cleaning up as 'hooker'
Dominique Strauss-Kahn's accuser wasn't just a girl working at a hotel -- she was a working girl.
All this is 'allegedly' and 'supposedly', since the MSM has been getting this story wrong, or 'apparently' wrong, since day 1.
The Sofitel housekeeper who claims the former IMF boss sexually assaulted her in his room was doing double duty as a prostitute, collecting cash on the side from male guests, The Post has learned.
There's a reason why the New York Post is not known as the newspaper of record...
"There is information . . . of her getting extraordinary tips, if you know what I mean. And it's not for bringing extra f--king towels," a source close to the defense investigation said yesterday.

The woman was allegedly purposely assigned to the Midtown hotel by her union because it knew she would bring in big bucks.

"When you're a chambermaid at Local 6, when you first get to the US, you start at the motels at JFK [Airport]. You don't start at the Sofitel," the source said. "There's a whole squad of people who saw her as an earner."
Wonder when the state attorney will go after the union for being complicit in running a prostitution ring. Wonder when the Sofitel will step up and put a stop to prostitution in their hotel.

#1  This never happens at the Motel 6. It must be the light they leave on.

#2  while i have to admit the honeypot is the favourite weapon of choice to discredit a political rival

this information was leaked by a source close to the defence team

it's a lovely thing to discredit the "victim"... she was a "slut" or a "prostitute" hence you can't believe her word

guess what? It's still rape if you go a prostitute and she says NO

Because you're not allowed to rape sluts either.

#3  i got sidetracked

my main point was: the source is dodgy. The source is UN-NAMED ie: wants a free kick, won't put their name on record

and is connected to the defense team of the alleged rapist

so therefore is highly suspect on 2 counts

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Last Army Draftee (CSM) Retires After 39 Years Of Service
Command Sgt. Maj. Jeff Mellinger was drafted to fight the Vietnam War, and the Army believes he's the last draftee to retire, after 39 years. Most did their two years and left. But Mellinger had found home.

"I think I'm pretty good at it, but I like it. That's the bottom line. I love being a soldier and I love being around soldiers," he said.

When the draft notice arrived in the mail in 1972, just 19, he was impressed that President Richard Nixon would write to him.

"I opened it up and it said, `Greetings from the president of the United States.' I said, `Wow, how's he know me?'" Mellinger said, laughing. "It was a form letter that said my friends and neighbors had selected me to represent them in the Armed Forces and I was hereby ordered to report for induction."

Mellinger told the draft board there was a mistake.

"I ... told them I don't need to go into the Army, I've got a job,'' said Mellinger, who hung drywall for a living. ``They just kind of laughed.''

Once the path was set, he said, he didn't consider trying to find a way out.

#2  Ah yes, the dreaded "Greetings from the president. Your friends and neighbors have selected you to serve them" letter.
Me, I took the chicken way out - I signed up for Navy OCS before I graduated from college. Strictly speaking, I was never eligible for the draft - I went from a 2-S (college deferment) to enlisted.

#3  "I ... told them I don't need to go into the Army, I've got a job,'' said Mellinger, who hung drywall for a living. ``They just kind of laughed.'

Unknown to a lot of people today is that in fact the draft was also utilized to do just that. To take young men graduating from high school out of the job pool to keep the unemployment figures lower. Back in the 50s and early 60s, paying them $76 a month was considered a good trade off than unemployment with a governing class that had just gone through the depression. The problem was, as we see with the current President, it provided a means to get into trouble someplace in the world. It's the 'if you have them, use them' attitude. And they did in Southeast Asia in the mid-60s.

Shriver files papers to divorce Schwarzenegger
[Dawn] Six weeks after Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed he had fathered a child out of wedlock, wife Maria Shriver filed divorce papers Friday to end their marriage of 25 years.

The former television journalist and Kennedy family heiress cited irreconcilable differences but offered no additional details about the breakup.

She also did not list a date when the couple separated, although they announced they had done so on May 9.

A week later, the former Caliphornia governor and one-time action star admitted he fathered a child with a member of his household staff years ago.

The filing, which Shriver signed nearly two weeks ago, signals an end to a union that began with a storybook wedding on a spring day in 1986 in Cape Cod and brought together a bodybuilder and rising action star and a princess of the Kennedy clan, herself an up-and-coming network newscaster.

They apparently entered marriage with no plans that it would end. Shriver's filing does not indicate the couple had a premarital agreement.

Bangladesh
BCL leader murdered
[Bangla Daily Star] A Bangladesh Chhatra League
... the student wing of the Bangla Awami League ...
(BCL) leader and another man were found dead early yesterday in capital's Tejgaon Industrial Area, three days after they went missing.

The dear departed are Mizanur Rahman, 32, Tejgaon unit joint convener of BCL and Akbar Ali, 50, a boutique worker at Mirpur.

Police found the bodies lying on the roadside with their hands tied up with ropes at Tejgaon Truck Stand at around 3:00am.

Family members of Mizan claimed he was a presidential candidate of the same unit in BCL's upcoming committee. He was also a contractor of WASA and traded fruits and scrap garment at Tejgaon Railway Market.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
neither police nor the family members of the dear departed could ascertain the relationship between Mizan and Akbar.

Mizan called his wife, Orni around 1:30pm on Wednesday and told her that he was in grave danger, said Tajul Islam, Mizan's brother.

Later his cell phone was found unreachable and Orni filed a General Diary (GD) that night with Tejgaon Industrial Police Station in this connection, said Tajul.

Family members suspect he was killed over a business feud.

"He had a feud with some people at a garment factory at Tejturi Bazar over his scrap garment business a year ago, who had injured him seriously," Yasin Hossain, a nephew of Mizan told The Daily Star.

Mizan was admitted to the hospital with a bullet injury and stab wounds after the attack, Yasin added.

Europe
EU approves payment of loan installment to Greece
(KUNA) -- Finance Ministers of the 17-member Eurogroup Saturday night approved the disbursement of the fifth tranche of 12 billion euro to Greece from the 110 billion euro loan given by the EU and the International Monetary Fund last year.
We need a pic of Euros going down the drain...
The ministers said in a statement following their video conference that payment will be made by 15 July following approval by the IMF Board.

They welcomed the recent adoption by the Greek parliament of a new package of austerity measures which was a condition set by the EU and the IMF to release the next instalment.

"The Greek authorities provided a strong commitment to adhere to the agreed fiscal adjustment path and to the growth-enhancing structural reform agenda, which are essential components of our strategy to restore fiscal sustainability and safeguard financial stability," noted the statement.

It called on all political parties in Greece to support the programme's main objectives and key policy measures in order to ensure a rigorous and swift implementation.

The austerity measures including pay and pension cuts, tax increqse and privatisation of state companies are highly unpopular in Greece and have led to widespread demonstrations and strikes in the country.

'Billions worth' of treasure found in Indian temple
A TREASURE trove of gold and silver jewellery, coins and precious stones said to be worth billions of dollars has been found in a Hindu temple in southern India, officials said on Saturday.

The valuables have an estimated preliminary worth of over 500 billion rupees (S$13.7 billion), said Kerala Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar, catapulting the temple into the league of India's richest temples.

The thousands of necklaces, coins and precious stones have been kept in at least five underground vaults at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple which is renowned for its intricate sculptures.

'We are yet to open one more secret chamber which has not been opened for nearly 140 years,' the chief said.

The temple, dedicated to Hindu lord Vishnu, was built hundreds of years ago by the king of Travancore and donations by devotees have been kept in the temple's vaults since.

A necklace found on Thursday was six metres long. Thousands of gold coins have also been found.

decision to join the opposition and said the formation of a grand opposition alliance was necessary to "rid the country of the current government".

Speaking to media representatives in Lahore, Nawaz said unprincipled politics had led Pakistain into troubled waters, which was why it was important to rid the country of the present government.

Responding to a question on Balochistan, Nawaz said the issues the province faced were extraordinary. He said the Baloch people could only be pacified "if action is taken against those responsible for their plight".

On another question regarding gas and power outages, Nawaz said the situation was resulting in huge losses to the country's economy.

Young man killed in clash over mosque
A young man was killed and about a dozen people, including a woman, were maimed in an armed clash between two religious groups in Landhi on Friday allegedly over the administrative control of an area mosque, police said.

They said the clash erupted in the second half of the day when a group winning verdict in its favour from the Sindh High Court for the administrative control of the mosque, named Ummul Qura, in Landhi 5½ near Gosht Market, opened the seal and started arrangements for some construction work inside the mosque.

"It's an old dispute between two groups ---- the Sunni Tehreek
A Brelvi political group founded in bloody Kärachi in 1992 by Muhammad Saleem Qadri. Its political wing is the Pakistan Inqilabi Tehreek. As the MQM's power declined it became the primary opposition to the Deobandi Binori Mosque hard boyz in the heyday of Nizamuddin Shamzai. By coincidence, Muhammad Saleem Qadri was bumped off by Deobandi button men of the SSP in 2001. Even more coincidentally, SSP's funding comes from Kärachi, where‐also strictly coincidentally‐Binori Mosque is located. Go figure.
and Ahl-i-Hadees
The term Ahl al-Hadith is often used interchangeably with the term Salafi...
---- over the administrative control of the mosque," said SP Haseeb Baig of Landhi Town. "After a series of festivities, a few months ago both moved the high court claiming their right to manage the administration. However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
the high court came up with the verdict in favour of the Ahl-i-Hadees group."

He said activists associated with the Ahl-i-Hadees group gathered after Friday prayers at the mosque, where no prayers had been held for the last few months as the matter was in court and the mosque was sealed. The clash sparked when Sunni Tehreek activists also gathered at the site to prevent construction activity.

The area police said the arguments from both sides led to a scuffle and finally firing, which claimed a young man's life and left a dozen other injured that included a woman.

"The dear departed has been identified as 35-year-old Mohsin Niaz," said an official at the Landhi cop shoppe. "The injured included Jamila Begum, Sultan Ahmed, Orangzaib, Umer Hammad, Muhammad Haris, Kamran Khan, Muhammad Babar, Rehan Qadri, Nadir Ali, Usman Attari, Maulana Nazeer Ahmed and Abdul Mujeeb Ahmed, who sustained bullet wounds and shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for the treatment."

Though the police and Rangers took over the situation after a 30-minute-long episode, tension prevailed in the vicinity with intermittent gunfire, which forced the traders to pull down shutters and kept the vehicular traffic off the roads. The police said the patrolling had been enhanced in the affected parts of the town while leaders from both sides were being engaged to defuse the tension.

"We are in contact with both parties and trying to bring them to talks and trace the suspects involved in the armed clash," said SP Baig of Landhi Town.

Silver eyes stolen
[Dawn] Police have incarcerated a man for stealing "silver eyes" and two fans from a shrine — known for restoring sight of the blind — in a Sihala village.
Oooh! Oooh! I think I seen this movie! It has Harrison Ford in it, right?
People "cured of blindness" leave eyes made of silver in gratitude at the shrine of Shaki Shah Darwaish in village Thoag, according to police.

Last Wednesday, the man carrying a ceiling fan was spotted by patrolling coppers at Sihala Bazaar. After a brief conversation at the electronics and silversmith shops, the man left the market.

After the shopkeepers told the policeman that the man wanted to sell "fans and silver balls", the cops went after him.

After arrest, the man was taken to Sihala cop shoppe, where, according to police, he confessed stealing over 80 pair of silver eyes and two fans from the shrine two weeks ago.

Police raided the house of the accused and recovered a fan and the silver eyes.

The police approached the shrine`s administrators and brought the theft into their knowledge.

The administrators had noted that two fans were missing but did not know that silver eyes were also being taken away — mainly because they were too many at the shrine.

The accused was given into police custody on physical remand.

Thaksin party wins landslide Thai election victory
The sister of Thailand's fugitive former prime minister led his loyalists to a landslide election victory Sunday, a stunning rout of the military-backed government that last year crushed protests by his supporters with a bloody crackdown that left the capital in flames.

The results pave the way for Thaksin Shinawatra's youngest sister, widely considered his proxy, to become the nation's first female prime minister - if the coup-prone Thai army accepts the results.
