Second heart-warming animal story... there IS an hint of bestiality this time, the way we all like it.
British tourist Sharon Tendler has finally made her dream match - by "marrying" a dolphin she has been visiting for 15 years in the Israeli resort of Eilat, the mass-circulation Yediot Ahronot daily reported today.
Ms Tendler, 41, has been visiting the city on the Gulf of Aqaba two or three times a year to spend time with her 35-year-old underwater sweetheart. "The peace and tranquility under water, and his love, would calm me down," the Israeli daily quoted her as saying.
Last week, Ms Tendler finally plucked up the courage to ask the dolphin's trainer for the mammal's fin in marriage.
The wedding took place on Wednesday, with the bride - wearing a white dress and watched by amazed spectators - walking down the dock to where the groom was waiting in the water. She kissed him, to the cheers of the spectators and then, after the ceremony was sealed with some mackerels, was tossed into the water so she could swim away with her new husband.
"I'm the happiest girl on earth," the bride was quoted as saying. "I made a dream come true. And I am not a pervert." "No, no, certainly not!"

I've read someplace that people have been warned AGAINST sex with male dolphins: people have had puncture wounds if they got in the way of the ejaculate.

@ Ptah : this needs to be confirmed, as this would pose lotsa problems for "marineland" type shows, but IIRC I've read a long time ago that the "Flipper" shows and movie actually used female dolphins, because male dolphins get sexually aroused when being touched around, like a child actor swimming while grabbing them (swimming along and touching would actually be part of their nuptial dance), and they got *enormous*, er, "woodies" which are not very suitable for a family-oriented show...

A5089: I got the info from a zoophilia site whose link came from Brother's Judd: sorry that I cannot provide it. The guy there distinguished bestiality from zoophilia by stating that, by having the superior intellect, that humans should be kind to animals and let the relationships be initiated from the animal end: that's zoophilia. Bestiality is when the human initiates the relationship against what passes as the "will" and "choice" of the animal. He goes on to counsel people on how to do it if they were ever "lucky" enough to be chosen by a dolphin, how to, umm, handle dolphin woodie, and specifically warned against getting in the line of fire...
I'm not all that emotionally tied up in that statement: just reporting what I heard...

Male dolphins will occasionally commite rape when a female human gets into their tank believe it or not. It happens often enough that Caarl Haaisaan made a plot point out of it in one of his books.
The damage caused was never mentioned so I tend to doubt that but the rape itself would seem to be cause for worry.

I read the Carl Hiassen book, very similar scenario to this particular piece of work. But the punchline: her last thought was as her husband took her to the bottom of the pool, dolphins mate underwater!

It was a Sharon McCrumb book which had a subplot about a woman marrying a dolphin, the legal case involved, and her last thought being about mating underwater... just as funny as the Hiasson book, not quite as sick. (sorry, can't remember title. Too late in the evening, I'm too tired to schlepp over to the bookcase and look through the back covers)

When Timmy was in trouble, Lassie knew to bark for help. But he had nothing on Gary Rosheisenâs cat, Tommy. When Rosheisen fell out of his wheelchair Thursday night, Tommy knew to dial 911.
Or maybe it was just dumb luck.
Rosheisen fell while trying to get from his wheelchair into bed about 7 p.m. He couldnât get up because of the pain â he has osteoporosis and ministrokes that disrupt his balance â so he yelled for help.
The only reply was his neighborâs loud snoring.
Rosheisen, 50, couldnât reach a cord above his pillow that alerts paramedics that he needs help. And the phone was on the other side of the room of his North Side apartment. So he laid on the floor, shivering and wondering if he would get help before the nurse came at 9:30 a.m.
Then he heard a knock on the door. He hollered twice to come in. In walked Columbus Police Officer Patrick Daugherty, who had followed Rosheisenâs voice to his bedroom. "How did you know to come here?" Rosheisen asked.
Daugherty told him a 911 call had come in from Rosheisenâs Beechcroft Road apartment, but there was no one on the phone. Police tried to call back to make sure everything was OK, and when no one answered, they decided to check things out.
"Well, it must have been Tommy," Rosheisen said.
Daugherty didnât believe it. Then he walked into the living room, and there was the rust-orange-and-tan striped cat, laying by the telephone on the floor. "I know it sounds kind of weird," Daugherty said, but he isnât sure how else to explain it.
Rosheisen got Tommy three years ago to help lower his blood pressure, and tried to train him to call 911. He wasnât sure how well it worked, though, and treats were involved. And after he got a medical-alert necklace, he didnât see the point.
But he wasnât wearing the necklace on Thursday because he had gone to the hospital to scan his blood vessels, and metal is not allowed in the machine. His forearm was badly bruised and sore from an IV, further weakening him.
The phone in the living room always is on the floor, and there are 12 small buttons â including a speed dial for 911 right above the button for the speaker phone. "He must have just happened to hit the right buttons," Rosheisen said.
Tommy, shy despite his deed, hid around the corner while Rosheisen told the story. But he eventually came out. "Thereâs the man of the hour," Rosheisen said. "Heâs my hero."
The National Council of Culture yesterday issued a report demanding the Egyptian official institutions to pay more attention to formally using and studying the Arabic language, especially in the foreign universities and schools in Egypt. The report entitled âArabic Language between Arabization and Globalizationâ has stressed the importance of using Arabic in the educational institutions that use a foreign language as the main dominant study language. The NCC also pointed out in its report the necessity of using Arabic language besides other foreign languages in the official and governmental boards in order to protect the native language and the national identity of the Egyptian people.
The problem of the Arabic language being ignored by the fresh university graduates and even some of the intellectual elite in Egypt was also targeted in the new report as a major reason behind losing the unique characteristics of the Egyptian culture. The NCC report comes at a time when the young generation in Egypt tends to adopt foreign or Western living styles in different manners especially in the urban areas, another cultural change that the report urges the Egyptian government to deal with.

This is more of a Big Deal than it might appear at first. Muslims believe that its Muhammed's words that are holy, not Muhammed himself. I'm sure any Salafist-types would get beind this kind of proposal.
Belief in the holiness of the Arabic language itself helps keep illiteracy high in the Arab countries. Arabic doesn't have the easiest alphabet, and any proposal to simplify it, even for teaching purpouses, is quickly shot down by the question "What about the Koran?"

A Chinese journalist who was jailed on subversion charges after reporting on corruption has been released early from prison, ahead of a planned U.S. visit by President Hu Jintao, a U.S.-based activist announced Wednesday. Jiang Weiping was released Tuesday after the one year remaining on his sentence was commuted, and he was with his family in the northeastern city of Dalian, said John Kamm, executive director of the Duihua Foundation in San Francisco. Kamm said he had spoken to Jiang's wife.
Kamm said he didn't know the reason for the early release. But Hu is due to visit the United States early this year, and Beijing frequently releases prominent prisoners in connection with high-level official contacts with the United States. "It could be related to preparations for Hu Jintao's visit," Kamm said by telephone from San Francisco. "Certainly the U.S. has been saying some gestures are needed, because we haven't had any recently."
Jiang's name was on a list of prisoners cited in speeches by Clark T. Randt, the U.S. ambassador to Beijing. All of the others have been released, though China hasn't freed a prominent prisoner since its best-known Muslim activist, Rebiya Kadeer, was released in March 2005 and allowed to leave for the United States.

Jiang was detained in 2000 and sentenced in June 2001 after writing articles for a Hong Kong magazine in 1999 accusing the governor of the northeastern province of Liaoning of covering up corruption. A court later cut his sentence from eight to six years. The governor, Bo Xilai, is now China's commerce minister. Jiang was convicted under China's vague state secrets law, which has been used recently against other journalists.
It's not vague at all -- say anything the state doesn't like and off to jail you go.

I'm not sure of the exact figure, but IIRC, about a solid 1% of the french public want him re-elected, and about 30% wish him to vacate his presidency immediatly, according to opinion polls.
His two terms were a catastrophy for France, the second one was step into dhimmitude right at the start, with the human sea of "youths" waving moroccan, algerian,... flags saluting him just after his re-election against nationalist/Ãber paleoconservative/vieux cheval de retour Jean-Marie Le Pen, something so disturbing his spindoctors effectively managed to snatch most of the picture and tv reportages filmed at the meeting.
His dear wife Bernadette was horrified by that at the moment, and he told her "theses were the new RPR (his then-party) electors".
Chirac is the Eurabia man by excellency, the "french arab policy" enforcer in all his glory, the man who introduced affirmative action geared toward "french" muslims, who's the poster-boy for the tranzis, multiculturalists (his response to the november francifada was... to blame ethnic frenchs ' "racism" and to culpabilize them) and antiglobo (he's a closet communist, he started far at the left, got into politics with a socialist mentor, and his secret military file during Algeria war told "beware, he's a communist").
And I won't even talk about his corruption and his ineptude (he's basically terminated the Republic, which is actually a good thing).
He's the worst president of the 5th EVER; and worrying thing is, each successive president seems to bre worse than the precedent, I really wonder how it will end?

A5089, what I find astounding is that you (and JFM and No Pasaran) seem to have an unlimited supply of stuff that makes my estimation of France fall ever lower. You guys are always welcome here, where at least we don't leave goofballs like Chiraq or Clinton in office for decades, except for the senate, where they become harmless (like the Seantor from Chappaquidick).

A U.N. panel ordered a temporary halt to caviar exports by the world's major producers Tuesday, buying time for experts to find ways to reverse dwindling populations of threatened sturgeon â whose eggs provide the culinary delicacy.
Many sturgeon species are suffering "serious population declines," said the U.N. Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, or CITES.
Information from sturgeon-exporting countries bordering the Caspian and Black seas, as well as the lower Danube and Heilongjiang-Amur rivers on the Chinese-Russian border indicates stocks are falling rapidly, CITES said.
Major caviar exporters include Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Iran, which are all on the Caspian Sea; Bulgaria and Romania, which border the Black Sea along with Russia. China is also a caviar exporter.
The ban covers exports from the major sturgeon-exporting countries, said CITES, which regulates legal caviar exports through an international system of permits.
The Caspian Sea produces the sturgeons said to be the world's highest quality. The countries bordering the Caspian Sea account for 80 percent of the global caviar trade.
The U.N. body said the restrictions on world caviar trade were temporary to permit exporting nations to show they are not driving the species to extinction and are taking steps to preserve the source of the delicacy.
Countries wishing to export sturgeon products "must demonstrate that their proposed catch and export quotas reflect current population trends and are sustainable," said Willem Wijnstekers, secretary-general of CITES.
"Governments need to fully implement the measures that they have agreed to ensure that the exploitation of sturgeon stocks is commercially and environmentally sustainable over the long term," Wijnstekers added.

I remember reading some years ago that in order to protect the Caviar industry, they were no longer using Sturgeon roe, but another fish. (Name escapes me at the moment, "Blackfish" or something like that) Mind you this was 20 or so years ago.

Besoeker, That was apparently the source of caviar before sturgeon. It got so bad that the fish got almost extinct and replaced by sturgeon as a source of caviar. Coelacanth was believed to be extinct for some 120 million years, but recently found to be quite alive and though not in great numbers, with little care, it may be coelacanth's turn to find its way to our tables, giving sturgeon a break.

For all her righteous anger here, she is still missing the boat. She lets them make *her* the issue. She isn't the issue. The perverts and abusers are the issue.
Every time she is asked to defend herself she should call for horrific punishments for such abusers. Make *them* the issue. Keep *them* the issue.
She should call for castration and execution of men that rape infants. Floggings and amputations of men that beat their wives. Prison for adulterers. Stoning of men for rape.
They hide what they do behind accusations against her, against all women. This must be turned around so that they are on the defensive, forced to defend their filthy and cruel behavior.

This is what Khomeini has written and advocated many times. Kudos for Ghada. It will require continuous intensive public ridicule, belittling and shaming of these child and animal raping, shariah quoting mullahs to make them slink back into their Qom caves. Though I have no illusions that it will force a change in Islamic thought or shariah. For anything Mohammed did is the pinnacle of human enlightenment and achievement and is written in stone.

I will offer the observation that there is a strong Sunni vs Shi'a element here.
What she's pointing out as Shi'ite perversity is equally true of the Sunni. I saw it in Sunni-dominated S.A. and knew Saudis with teen-aged wives. Some bragged about it, in fact. Younger than teen I did not hear about, though that proves nothing as they would correctly guess I would find it, uh, well, "wildly inappropriate". Bahrain is also a Sunni-dominated shithole, though I did not know any of them personally.
This little factoid, thumping the Shi'a for what both of them practice, may be the reason she's still breathing...

Ayatollah Khomeni issued a fatwa that forbids penetrative intercourse with girls less than 9 years old (after nine is ok).
With children less than 9, other forms of sexual contact such as foindling, rubbing, etc are permitted.
