[NYP] The nurse facing murder charges for the fiery Los Angeles crash that killed five was going 130 mph — it was revealed on Sunday — 40 miles faster than previously thought.
Nicole Linton, 37, was initially thought to be driving her Mercedes at 90 mph, but court papers obtained by the Los Angles Times on Sunday said she floored the pedal for at least five seconds before deliberately speeding into La Brea and Slauson avenues on Aug. 4.
"Further analysis reveals that her speed at impact was in fact 130 mph and that she floored the gas pedal for at least the 5 seconds leading into the crash, going from 122 mph to 130 mph," said the filing, which was released on Friday.
Prosecutors laid waste to the claims that she lost consciousness by citing surveillance video and data from her Mercedes. The documents said Linton had "complete control over steering, maintaining the tilt of the steering wheel to keep her car traveling directly toward the crowded intersection."
Skipping the victim piece, it's Linton's medical condition that is important now.
Linton’s attorneys last month filed medical forms that detailed her struggle with bipolar disorder and included a determination by doctors that the nurse had an "apparent lapse of consciousness" at the time of the crash.
[PJ] The young mother who was brutally beheaded last Thursday has been identified as 27-year-old Karina Castro. Castro was beheaded with a sword just before noon last Thursday in broad daylight as shocked neighbors watched. The attack took place in front of her apartment building. An earlier report stated she was 25 years old.
The alleged killer, Jose Solano Landaeta, reportedly cut off Castro’s head with a sword. He left her head under the car that her body was in. Cops swarmed in minutes later to find the grisly crime scene.
Shortly thereafter, Landaeta returned to the location with two friends and was promptly arrested.
Landaeta is the father of Castro’s one-year-old toddler. Castro also had a seven-year-old daughter. The Santa Monica Observer is reporting Landaeta was in the country illegally, claiming he came to the United States from Venezuela ten years ago on a tourist visa and never left.

Why hasn't she been arrested and put on a registry? Bet you she has a huge stash pile of absolutely vile, evil stuff.
I'm a parent of that school, I'd sue her and the board for child endangerment, etc.
[Men's Health] It’s 5:30 a.m. on a Monday in St. Louis, the sun isn’t even a rumor yet, and I’m joining a dozen men in a free outdoor workout group called F3, gathering for what we all hope will be a glorious beatdown.
In a public park, we circle Jason Grothe (F3 nickname: Ringer), who has promised to make our lives miserable for the next 45 minutes. He will grunt and groan alongside us—a core principle of F3 is that the rotating volunteer leaders running workouts also suffer.
Ringer’s playlist starts with Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Relax,” and as the first notes sound, we’re doing jumping jacks. Burpee box jumps and planks follow. Sweat darkens the concrete under a 58-year-old nicknamed Honey Pot, because he’s a beekeeper, and steam pours off a 36-year-old nicknamed Sheldon. “Don’t cheat the man in the mirror,” someone says. Sucking wind, I don’t respond. Doing so would be disingenuous: I’m thinking unkind thoughts about Ringer.
What is F3?
Men across the country are clamoring to be this miserable, with an estimated 20,000 active participants. Think of it as a hyper-positive Fight Club and hipper YMCA. It gives you up to 15 supportive guys in every workout. To “join,” just log on to the organization's website, find one of the 1,500 free F3 workouts going on in 30 states every morning, and show up ready to sweat in pursuit of conditioning and community. The workouts are usually boot-camp style (reflecting the military background of one of its cofounders), and they happen outside, rain or shine. Occasionally, cinder blocks, kettlebells, or rucks are on the menu; most often, it’s just you versus your body weight.

Ran into about 100 of these guys in three separate platoon sized elements while doing my 'old man' walk at the park yesterday. American flags flying in each element. They were ruck marching, been at it since 6:00 the previous evening.
Their trek terminated at the park with grass drills. They looked pretty determined, gnarly might be the word. Seen young men like that before, many years ago. Possibly their fathers.
[JustTheNews] Gov. Ron DeSantis activated the Florida National Guard in an effort to provide ongoing assistance to the state’s corrections officers.
Activating the guard will help reduce overtime for corrections officers and provide temporary staffing relief as the state continues to fill vacancies. They were activated immediately as of Sept. 9 for a period of nine months or until they are no longer needed.
The action, initiated through executive order, comes after the governor and the legislature authorized record pay increases to recruit and retain corrections officers. These and other incentives have already resulted in the state gaining 640 new officers since the 2022 legislative session ended this spring. It’s a record gain compared to a net loss of more than 465 officers during the same time period in the previous year, the governor’s office says.
The state’s goal is to continue to bring more highly qualified officers to the Florida Department of Corrections. The department’s primary directive is to “protect society by providing incarceration that will support the intentions of established criminal law,” according to Florida statute. It’s responsible for caring for and maintaining custody of more than 80,000 inmates who’ve been convicted of committing crimes.
While the department is authorized to employ more than 20,000 correctional and correctional probation officers, it’s been experiencing a severe shortage of employees, which has resulted in the department temporarily closing 176 inmate dorms and suspending 431 supervised work squads, the governor’s office says.
The “shortage threatens the safety of officers, inmates, and the public,” DeSantis said. The legislature’s incentive package has already begun to attract highly qualified individuals to fill vacancies for the long term; in the short term to provide relief to those in the National Guard will help fill the gaps.
According to the Florida Constitution, guardsmen and women can be used “to preserve the public peace [and] execute the laws of the state.” According to state statute, guardsmen and women can be used to “enhance domestic security” and “respond to any need for emergency aid to civil authorities” and to “provide extraordinary support to law enforcement upon request.”
Members of the Florida National Guard will be tasked with staffing guard towers and patrolling perimeters and control stations, which will enable correctional officers to focus more on supervising and caring for inmates. They won’t be responsible for any direct supervision of inmates “except where such supervision occurs as a normal part of manning control stations or when required in an emergency pertaining to safety and security,” according to the order.
The newly enacted Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Program provides one-time bonus payments of up to $5,000 for new Florida law enforcement officers and officers relocating to Florida from out of state.
A new Florida Law Enforcement Academy Scholarship Program also was made available to new recruits. It covers tuition, fees and up to $1,000 of eligible education expenses for trainees in a law enforcement basic recruit training program. Certified officers who relocate to Florida may also receive a reimbursement of up to $1,000 for equivalency training costs.
Among other programs launched in Florida, those in law enforcement may also qualify for the Hometown Heroes housing program, which helps those serving to be able to afford to live in the communities where they serve.

Not necessarily a good idea. I had a casual conversation with a University of Oklahoma Campus Policeman (as a Land Grant University the University was technically not in the jurisdiction of the local city Norman and it was in the 1980's before negotiations modified that...). He had been a National Guard NCO because he was a returning Vietnam Vet when he and his squad was 'activated' for the 1973 McAlester Prison Riot. They were quickly trucked in and started manning the walls which was 'tense' because his squad was mostly green 16-18 year old 'kids with military weapons' ...not a happy thought. One anecdote concerned the older 'lifer' prisoners trickling out by ones and two to sit and form an armed circle in the middle of the yard during the riot and arson...
Everybody, especially him (the former NCO), was happier when the Oklahoma State Police troopers showed up in the morning to take over. The moral is that police operations is a skillset different from military and especially when you are talking about green troops.
[Epoch Times] Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) presented Dr. Simone Gold a flag that was once flown over the U.S. Capitol on Friday, following her 45 days in jail for being involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol breach and stepping inside restricted premises.
The in-person grant upon Gold’s release from the Miami Federal Detention Center was to honor the Los Angeles-based emergency medicine specialist’s "invaluable work and contributions to public health, medical freedom, and our God-given constitutional rights," according to the Republican lawmaker.
During the afternoon on Jan. 6, 2021, Gold delivered a speech through a megaphone to a crowd gathered in Statuary Hall, where she voiced her opposition to the vaccine mandates and government-imposed lockdowns, before getting arrested on Jan. 18, 2021. Her non-profit AFLDS had been promoting medicines such as hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin as an alternative to the COVID-19 vaccine, which came under attack from media outlets and Dr. Anthony Fauci.
"After having her name and reputation shamefully dragged through the mud, the Biden administration’s DOJ [Department of Justice] threw her in prison for peacefully walking into the U.S. Capitol on January 6 and delivering a speech," Gohmert continued. "Dr. Gold is the definition of what a political prisoner looks like—something I never thought I’d see here in the United States of America."
Over 800 people have been charged with federal crimes over the breach on Jan. 6, with 300 pleading guilty to one or more charges so far and nearly 200 sentenced.
[NBC] A fanfare of trumpets sounded at proclamation ceremonies in the capital cities of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on Sunday officially declaring Charles king of the nations that, along with England, form the United Kingdom.
Thousands of people gathered at Edinburgh Castle, Cardiff Castle and Hillsborough Castle in Belfast to hear the official announcement, although Charles officially became king when Queen Elizabeth II died Thursday.
The ceremonies took place as the late monarch's coffin left Balmoral Castle and traveled to Edinburgh on Sunday. Crowds also lined the roads in tribute to the queen as the funeral procession slowly wound through tiny villages and small towns from the remote castle in the Scottish Highlands.
Thousands of well-wishers are awaiting the arrival of the late monarch's oak coffin in Edinburgh
Guess they saw the movie too.

[BenarNews] Japan plans to beef up defenses on its remote islands in the East China Sea in preparation for a Taiwan Strait crisis, a move reflecting official strategic thinking but one that is likely to annoy China. The Japanese defense ministry wants to expand fuel and ammunition storage facilities on the Nansei (Ryukyu) island chain, whose westernmost tip lies only 110 kilometers (68 miles) from Taiwan, Nikkei Asia quoted Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada as saying this week.
Moving ammunition to the southwest would improve Japan’s deterrence capabilities, Hamada said, adding that an ammunition depot will be built on the island of Amami Oshima, located between Kyushu and Okinawa.
Port facilities and fuel depots will be set up in Okinawa, Kyushu and elsewhere to not only fulfill Japanese defense forces needs but support American forces responding to a Taiwan conflict.
The defense ministry also plans to bolster missile and electronic warfare capacity on the Nansei Islands, according to Japan’s 2022 defense white paper.
Japan is setting up electronic warfare units at three locations on those islands this year. In 2023, one will be dispatched to Yonaguni, the Japanese island closest to Taiwan.
Yonaguni already hosts a military base with some 160 soldiers stationed there since 2016.
By March 2023, Japan will establish an army garrison equipped with anti-ship and surface-to-air missiles on Ishigaki island southwest of Okinawa. Similar units were already deployed to Amami Oshima island in 2019 and to Miyako island in 2020.
SHIFT IN PUBLIC OPINION
"Even before Pelosi’s trip, in May this year, 90 percent of the Japanese respondents to a survey by Nikkei said Japan should be prepared for the possible military conflict in the Taiwan Strait; 41 percent said that the preparation could accompany a change in the law, and 60 percent accepted Japan having counterattack capabilities, despite such capabilities having invited controversies before," said Fumiko Sasaki, a specialist in international relations focused on Asia and Japanese politics at Columbia University.
On Aug. 31, the Japanese Defense Ministry made its largest ever budget request of 5.59 trillion yen (U.S. $40.4 billion) for the 2023 fiscal year to deal with increased security challenges.
In June, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said he intended to strengthen Japan’s defense capabilities "fundamentally over the next five years."
Noted by the folks back home. The question is whether they are like Ilhan Imar or Ayaan Hirsi Ali
[Garowe] Somalis living in the United States of America have continued to make history, especially in the political arena, a field that seemed to be almost an impossibility a few decades ago due to historical and cultural barriers in the West.
At Maine Legislator, a Somali-American woman from the Democratic Party is poised to break history after one of her challengers dropped out of the race, almost making her the main candidate ahead of November mid-elections in the country.
Recently, Fred Sanborn-Silvers of the rival Grand Old Party [GOP] commonly known as Republican withdrew from the race, clearing the path for Mana Abdi in her bid for Maine House District 95. Another Somali American, South Portland ...a formerly lovely city in Oregon, governed by an unholy alliance of communists, anarchists, and incompetents. In 2017 the city was named as the fifth most business-friendly in the nation. It took only three years for the city to degenerate to the point where it became a national embarrassment, with antifa and Black Lives Matter bullying taxpayers and occasionally shooting one as an example to the others... Mayor Deqa Dhalac, is also running for a different House seat.
Should Mana Abdi win the seat, she would automatically make history in the tiny Eastern state of America. Maine is home to thousands of African immigrants colonists with most of them coming from War-torn Somalia, which has been facing unrest for over three decades.
A quick study shows that many Somalis living within the state have settled in Portland and Lewiston-Auburn. Several have held elected municipal positions, but none have been elected to the Legislature.
The late departure of Sanborn-Silvers from the race automatically prevented the Grand Old Party from fielding another candidate in the race since the laws don't permit such a move. The Democratic Party is currently at the helm of power in the US through President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. Being a self-defined foreign policy whiz kid means never having to say you're sorry... Sanborn-Silvers indicated on social media that he’s no longer a candidate "due to legal reasons." He didn’t return an email from The News Agency that Dare Not be Named seeking comment, CBS news reports.
Sanborn-Silvers drew attention two years when he said on social media that "Moslems should not be allowed to hold public office." He told Maine Public that it was a misstatement and that legal citizens should be able to run for office.
She will join Ilhan Omar ...Somali-American Dem representative from Minnesota. She was apparently married to her brother and may be her own grandmaw on her mother's side... , the Minnesota 5th District representative as some of the Somalis who are making history in the US. For Ms. Omar, she became the first Moslem woman to represent people in Congress, and in November, she will be vying for the third consecutive term.
