Morocco king pardons 188 people linked to Hirak protests
[ARABNEWS] Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has pardoned a total of 188 people linked to the "Hirak" protest movement on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the National Council on Human Rights said on Tuesday.

The council initially reported that royal pardons had been granted to 11 activists serving sentences of two to three years in prison for their part in the al-Hirak al-Shaabi, or "Popular Movement" whose protests rocked the northern Rif region in 2016-2017.

The other pardons concern people sentenced in connection with the demonstrations in the region, according to the Moroccan press.

It was not immediately possible to get confirmation from the Justice Ministry, which published the list of people granted royal pardons.

The social unrest linked to Hirak began in October 2016 after the death of a fisherman and spiralled into a wave of protests demanding more development in the neglected Rif region and railing against corruption and unemployment.

PM Khan reminds nation of the real meaning of sacrifice in Eid message
[DAWN] Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight...
congratulated the nation on the celebration of Eidul Azha and urged his countrymen to remember the sacrifices made for the protection, reconstruction and development of Pakistain, Radio Pakistain reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, the prime minister also urged people "not to forget those who are deprived in this hour of happiness".

Prime Minister Khan reminded the nation that sacrifice "is a universal devotion without which no nation can progress".

In his Eidul Azha message, President Mamnoon Hussain said today’s sacrifice commemorates the obedience and unparalleled examples set by the great prophets of Islam.

He said this Eid should remind Paks to sacrifice their egos, which is the key factor behind numerous problems.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa also conveyed Eid wishes to the nation through the Inter-Services Public Relations, saying: "May Allah Almighty bless our motherland [with] peace and prosperity."

Sheikh Rashid accused of manhandling elderly woman, damaging cameraman's phone
[DAWN] Newly appointed Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid allegedly manhandled an elderly woman who attempted to meet him and later damaged the cellphone of a cameraman who had managed to record the incident, it emerged on Wednesday.

Channel 24 cameraman Aqib, whose phone was allegedly damaged, narrated details of the episode that took place on Tuesday afternoon to DawnNewsTV. Rashid, chief of the Awami Moslem League, has denied the allegations.
No, no! Certainly not!
According to the cameraman, the incident occurred when he and a news hound had reached Rashid's Lal Haveli residence in Rawalpindi to record an Eid-related programme.

While they were there, an elderly poor woman tried to enter Rashid's house to meet him and reportedly seek financial help, but was stopped by the security guards posted at the gate.

The woman started crying upon being refused entry, Aqib told DawnNewsTV. Hearing the commotion, Rashid stepped out of his home and after a reported exchange of words, the AML leader allegedly shoved the woman away.

Rashid then turned towards Aqib, who was recording the incident through his cellphone's camera a few feet away. He allegedly snatched the phone from Aqib and slammed it onto a concrete block, the cameraman claimed.

No complaint has been filed with the police regarding the incident by the woman or the cameraman.

Meanwhile,
...back at the game, the Babe headed for second base. He almost made it. Then Sheila slapped him....
Rashid while talking to DawnNewsTV denied manhandling the woman or damaging the cameraman's phone.

Israel green lights over 1,000 settlement homes, hundreds more to be marketed
[IsraelTimes] The Defense Ministry committee responsible for authorizing settlement construction advances plans for over 1,000 homes in the West Bank, with hundreds more expected to be marketed in the coming days.

Of the 1,002 homes green-lighted by the Civil Administration’s High Planning subcommittee, 382 gain final approval for construction while 620 clear an earlier planning stage known as a "deposit."

The Defense Ministry is also slated to approve hundreds of homes for "marketing," an extra stage required for projects in larger settlements. According to a Civil Administration official, these projects include ones in Alfei Menashe east of Kfar Saba and Ma’ale Efraim in the Jordan Valley.

Earlier in August, over 500 homes were approved for marketing in the Beit Aryeh settlement, southeast of Rosh Ha’ayin.

Among the plans advanced for deposit is a project for 370 homes in the central West Bank settlement of Adam, where Yotam Ovadia was stabbed to death in a terror attack last month.

After the incident, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman announced he would be advancing a plan for hundreds of homes to be built in the settlement. While he did not say so explicitly, he was referring to the already existing plan advanced today.

CIA Director Gina Haspel announces new leadership picks
[CBS] CIA Director Gina Haspel's pick for the number three role at the agency is, like her choice for deputy director, a career analyst with three decades of experience across a number of specialized fields.

Andrew "Andy" Makridis will assume the position of chief operating officer, a position that does not require Senate confirmation.

In a press release announcing Makridis' appointment, Haspel said, "Andy brings a wealth of expertise from his 32-year CIA career and has a deep understanding of how the agency works."

"He is the ultimate team player," Haspel said.

Haspel also named Sonya Holt, a 34-year veteran of the agency, to the role of chief diversity and inclusion officer. "To succeed against intelligence challenges facing us today," Haspel said, "we must have officers who bring a variety of life experiences and viewpoints to the job."

Holt served as the lead for the Director's Advisory Group (DAG) Implementation, an agency initiative formed in 2013 to address recommendations made by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to help more women at CIA reach leadership posts. The initiative concluded this year, after five years, and a final report is forthcoming. In an update issued last month, the agency noted that women now make up 36 percent of the Senior Intelligence Service.

The CIA said this week was the first that three senior officials ‐ Makridis, Holt and deputy director Vaughn Bishop, who was sworn in on August 6 ‐ began in their new roles.

From the people who missed the collapse of the Soviet Union and 9/11. Need to get back to what your 'legitimate' mission was, not virtue flashing. Those running the OSS knew what their mission was.
