RBG Back in Hospital For 'Minimally-Invasive' Warranty Work
[ZERO] Less than two weeks after her previous hospitalization, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is back in Sloan Kettering for a procedure to revise a bile-duct stent. She is expected to be released by the end of the week.

Full Statement:
Justice Ginsburg underwent a minimally invasive non-surgical procedure today at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City to revise a bile duct scent that was originally placed at Sloan Kettering in August 2019.

According to her doctors, stent revisions are common occurrences and the procedure, performed using endoscopy and medical imaging guidance, was done to minimize the risk of future infection.

The Justice is resting comfortably and expects to be released from the hospital by the end of the week.

Two weeks ago, she confirmed that was living with a recurrence of liver cancer.

#7  a minimally invasive non-surgical procedure... to revise a bile duct scent (uh, stent?)

Endoscopy is considered minimally invasive, but if I remember my Vertebrate Anatomy, the bile duct is on the inside. Unless they left an access port, you need to cut a slit to work through which sounds an awful lot like surgery.

Winnie-the-Flu Comparison
I got this analysis from a STEM prof I know. Puts CCP flu in perspective.

"So, I thought about prior flu and did some search, then a few simple calculations.

Corona virus comparison with prior flu.
1957 flu

The estimated number of deaths was 1.1 million worldwide and 116,000 in the United States.
Also: Britannica on 1957 flu
And: Smithsonian Magazine on 1957 flu

1968 Flu:

The estimated number of deaths was 1 million worldwide and about 100,000 in the United States.
Compare with the U.S. population which has increased. Divide death count by population.

Year Population Ratio
1957 177,750,000 so 1957 flu mortality 0.65 per thousand
1968 205,800,000 so 1968 flu mortality 0.49 per thousand
2020 331,000,000 Covid, if 150,000 die, 0.45 per thousand
2020 331,000,000 Covid, if 210,000 die, 0.63 per thousand

Actually the 1957 and 1968 flu were even worse because, as with Covid, they were more deadly for people over 65. There were far fewer people over 65, and fewer yet over 80, in 1957 and 1968 compared with now, so the rates were higher then than is indicated by dividing by the full population.

for a social comparison, read this (the main link)
The National Review has a useful moment.
a follow-up note on his exercise:
"If you wish to make a stronger point, 1918 could be added using the same kinds of sources.
There are of course nuances and cavils. Perhaps people these days are immunized for that.

A bit more labor, appropriate for the retired, but also a stronger point - find population data for over 65; do the division for each year."

Africa Subsaharan
Zimbabwe signs billion-dollar deal to repay white farmers
HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Zimbabwe’s government on Wednesday signed a deal with former white farmers to pay them billions of dollars in compensation roughly two decades after they lost their land in often violent invasions.

But because the government does not readily have the money, the farmers will be part of a team tasked with raising the cash.

About 4,000 farmers lost large swathes of land when Zimbabwe’s late leader Robert Mugabe launched the often-chaotic land reform program which he said was aimed at addressing colonial-era land inequities. White farmers had owned the majority of prime farmland. Agricultural land now belongs to the government.

According to the agreement, signed at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s official residence and witnessed by representatives of the former farmers, the $3.5 billion compensation is not for the land but for infrastructure such as wells, irrigation equipment and buildings. The farmers initially wanted over $5 billion.

The full payment is expected to be done within five years. But it is unclear if the former farmers will receive the money given that Zimbabwe is financially troubled and burdened with a huge debt.

The government will borrow on international markets and the farmers will be part of a "joint resource mobilization committee" tasked with raising the money, according to the agreement.

Mnangagwa, who took power in 2017 after Mugabe was forced to resign, has encouraged former white farmers to apply for pieces of land.
"Grow food for us, then we'll kill you"
The president said the latest developments have brought closure.

#2  They're getting hungry and hoping for returning farmers. I doubt they find many. Return to Wakanda? It's been too long, people have started over elsewhere. Smith said they could not govern themselves and it would end in disaster. It surely did. The same story is playing out here as well.

#3  compensation is not for the land but for infrastructure such as wells, irrigation equipment and buildings

the farmers will be part of a "joint resource mobilization committee" tasked with raising the money

So they are raising taxes on farming to pay for infrastructure improvement. Doesn't read like reparations.

#4  Well, I know this wasn't a thing one year ago.

Man charged after allegedly spitting at woman at Pennsylvania Walmart

As I was saying, this happens even out here in rural Prairie Town, Kansas.

This isn't a hypochondriac having an episode, because a hypochondriac would not purposefully spread germs by spitting, especially on a person.

Obviously people who are hard of hearing, and I'm sort-of in that group, are having a tough time. To me, people talking sounds like someone mumbling a text message.

Fashion-chic masks are no substitute for the human-craved facial emotions. I understand it is tougher for those with certain mental or personality conditions such as autism.

Anxiety and depression from financial concerns.

Those who for whatever good reasons got married, now finding out their spouse is a total shit-bird.

And then what happens to those who play ball, who do the safety dance, then look around and see the people who makes those mandates under penalty of law, openly flaunt those very laws.

Lot to consider.

Ecuador navy 'on alert' as 260-strong Chinese fleet nears Galapagos Islands
[FOX] A large fleet of some 260 Chinese fishing vessels has been spotted in the waters surrounding the Galápagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador, the country’s navy officials said last week.

The Ecuadorian Navy said it has increasing patrolling to ensure the Chinese ships do not enter the exclusive economic zone around the Galápagos Islands, where 19th-century British explorer Charles Darwin developed his theory of evolution, Reuters reported.

"We are on alert, conducting surveillance, patrolling to avoid an incident such as what happened in 2017," Ecuador’s Defense Minister Oswaldo Jarrin said at a press conference. Three years ago, a Chinese ship was apprehended in the Galápagos Marine Reserve carrying 300 tons of marine wildlife -- mostly sharks, including the hammerhead, which is near extinction.

Trump Floats Plan to ‘Delay the Election' Until Americans Can Safely Vote in Person
President Trump on Thursday suggested delaying the 2020 election "until people can properly, securely and safely vote."

In a series of tweets, the president attacked mail-in voting, saying it "is already proving to be a catastrophic disaster" and would cause "the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history."
IMNSHO he floated this like catnip to start the discussion nationally. The MSM was downplaying it as a conspiracy theory. Now it's out in the open
URL fixed.

#1  would cause "the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history.

Well, yes, that's the intent. They learned from Caracas. Given they have never accepted the 2016 election why do they expect the rest to accept a rigged one in 2020? /rhet question

#2  It is not likely the Presidential election can be delayed due to Constitutional requirements.

That leaves two options: (1) Traditional voting with controls put in place to limit the opportunities for cheating and (2) Mail-in voting. It seems that we are at an impasse.

In Tennessee, my wife and I voted in early primary voting. The system that has been put in place since the last election seems two address the issues of Covid-19 as well as voter fraud. Moreover, the system was efficient and smooth in operation. It featured the following:

1. Poll workers were separated from the public by Plexiglas partitions.
2. Although, I don&;t know whether masks were required, everyone seemed to have them on.
3. Social distancing was maintained by marks on the floor. Workers were present to guide voters as needed.
4. Ballots were all paper to be completed in a booth by the voter.
5. Candidate choices were selected by shading-in with a pen a rectangular box next to the candidates name.
6. Voter I.D. was required such as a DL with a photo or a government supplied ID.
7. The completed ballot is fed into a reader at the end of the process and under the watchful eye of a poll worker.
8. I think your vote can be tracked through the entire voting process to make certain it is cast legally and to indicate your accurate choice.

Both Covid-19 and voter fraud can be addressed without delaying the vote or using national mail-in voting.

StarShip - Moon
StarShip - Freight, passenger or fuel
Saturn 5
SLS
Falcon 9

This test was 1/2 the second stage. It starts with the color change on both starships shown and the second stage goes to the top. So this test didn't include cargo or top of the second stage. The big block on top of this rocket is a mass simulator for the rest of the 2nd stage. It is 2 large coils of stainless steel in a box. SN8 will be the full sized test model of the second stage. It is not clear if it will have the fins and it will be made of a different stainless alloy. That alloy is Stainless 304 and is not the final alloy. SN7 was a test tank. SN-6 is a duplicate of SN5 just tested and if SN5 passes all the rest of the tests intended for it SN6 will become an unused paperweight. SN-8 will have more engines but not the vacuum engines yet... so it may have a 4 or 5 engines.
They are building the vertical assembly building for the first stage "Starship Heavy". Don't expect to see the first stage tested until after the building to build it in is completed.

SN = Serial #

Mars Perseverance launches despite NASA, Boeing, Intel invlovement.
[Murcek] At 7:55 am DLT an Atlas rocket successfully launched the Mars Perseverance rover, despite NASA, Boeing and Intel involvement.

There are still many opportunities for the various contractors' shoddy workmanship to sink the multi-billion dollar mission.
