Hutchinson's testimony raises fresh questions about Secret Service's handling of Jan. 6
[ABC] A former White House aide's stunning testimony before the House panel investigating the Capitol attack indicated that the U.S. Secret Service may have had advanced warning of the potential for violence at the Capitol, raising new questions about the agency's planning ahead of the riot and actions taken by agents on Jan. 6.
"Stunning" to some possibly. Why would the Capital Police or FBI want POTUS coming around. No sense in taking a chance on executive interference or friendly fire between the Secret Service (who don't fok around) and on-site Law Enforcement, either uniformed or clandestine agent provocateur? Shocking isn't it? The Secret Service either got the memo, or their intelligence cell became witting of a potential problem.
Cassidy Hutchinson,
...whose testimony before the committee was contradicted within hours by those she claimed to be quoting, making all her subsequent testimony highly suspect. And those news organizations that breathlessly report her claims, like ABC News, look like gullible suckers...
top deputy to then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, told lawmakers on Tuesday that the security team guarding then-President Donald Trump and senior White House officials were aware there was a serious threat posed by some descending on Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6, when Trump was planning to address a rally to support his baseless accusations that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.
It was that security team that declared itself willing, nay eager, to testify before the committee to contradict Ms Hutchinson’s claims. It’s shocking that the ABC News team, seasoned reporters all, is so far behind developments.
In Hutchinson's telling, the agency famous for its teams of bodyguards, sharpshooters and hyper-skilled drivers was aware that among the throngs headed to Washington were some who were planning to carry a variety of weapons and military gear, and were seeking to target members of Congress and breach the Capitol building.

If so, the Secret Service apparently failed to coordinate effectively with law enforcement partners, the public, or congressional leaders to strengthen the security posture -- and instead ferried a number of people under their protection to the Capitol complex with little more than their personal security details.

The Secret Service declined to answer questions from ABC News.

Texas man who had sex with a horse is jailed for 10 years
[NYPOST] A Texas man who admitted to having sex with a horse and sexually assaulting several others has been tossed in the calaboose
Please don't kill me!
for a decade.

Jean Marie Bugoma, 24, was convicted on Wednesday after pleading guilty to bestiality, KSAT reported.

The sick acts occurred at a San Antonio equine boarding facility on at least three occasions between June 2020 and February 2021.

In the first instance, Bugoma was caught on surveillance camera walking through the stables naked, according to an arrest affidavit.

The owner noticed soon after that two of his horses were maimed and a vet later determined the animals had been sexually assaulted.

Authorities said Bugoma went to the stables again months later and had sex with one of the horses.

Two other horses had also been "hobbled," which meant their legs were bound together.

When the owner caught Bugoma back at the stable in February last year, authorities obtained a warrant that determined DNA taken from one of the horses matched that of the suspect.

Vegan mom starved toddler to death with diet of raw vegetables, fruit
[NYPOST] A Florida vegan mother has been found guilty of murdering her 18-month-old son after only feeding him raw fruits and vegetables.

Sheila O’Leary, 39, is facing life in prison after a jury convicted her Wednesday of murder and a string of child abuse charges over the 2019 death of her toddler, Ezra O’Leary, the News Press reported.

Her little boy weighed just 17 pounds — seven pounds below average — when his parents noticed he had stopped breathing.

O’Leary and her husband, Ryan O’Leary, told police that Ezra followed a strict vegan diet — but that he was also breast fed.
"Are these Gluten-free?"
They said the boy hadn’t eaten for about a week prior to his death and was having trouble sleeping.

Sheila O’Leary and her husband, Ryan, were both arrested and charged over their son’s 2019 death.

An autopsy found the little boy died of malnutrition complications.

Prosecutors accused the mother of failing to seek proper medical care for her son when she realized he was ill.

“She chose to disregard his cries,” Assistant State Attorney Sara Miller said during closing arguments.

“She didn’t need a scale to see his bones. She didn’t need a scale to hear his cry.”

#4  This is a well proven theory. They have had adults just eat raw food and had to cancel the experiment after two weeks. They had to spend most of their time eating, never felt satisfied and lost 40lbs. We have cooked so long and developed organs (especially the brain) we simply can't survive without cooking our food. We can't get enough calories.

Raw... 20% of the caloric value absorbed of the food
Cooked... 80% of the caloric value absorbed of the food

So go vegan if you want, but cook your food.

NYC council members hold hearing on antisemitism in city’s public colleges
[IsraelTimes] New York City council members hold a hearing to denounce antisemitism at the US city’s public colleges and call for action from university leadership.

Advocates and Jewish groups accuse the City University of New York (CUNY) school systems administration of neglecting widespread antisemitism at its 26 colleges.

CUNY’s chancellor, Felix Matos Rodríguez, canceled his appearance at the hearing at the Committee of Higher Education at the last minute, the second time he has put off his attendance. No administrators from CUNY attend in person.

Five council members are in attendance out of 51 in the council, and a couple dozen protesters gather in front of city hall.

"Him not showing up is perpetuating the antisemitism we’re talking about," Council Member Inna Vernikov says of the chancellor. "What a sham. What an insult to the Jewish community."

Faculty and students are set to address the politicians about their experience of antisemitism on campus. Three CUNY administrators are tuning in via Zoom.

Committee chair Eric Dinowitz shares anecdotes about antisemitism on campuses. Jewish students who were praying were called "dirty Jews," he says, with no response from the administration. In other cases, students called for violence against Jews, or spoke in favor of Adolf Hitler
...late Fuehrer of Germany, founder of the Third Reich, currently communing with his pals Himmler and Heydrich. He is reincarnated every few days as a politician somebody doesn't like...
One former professor, who declines to share her name due to concerns about work opportunities, says CUNY fired some Jewish professors last year, around the time of the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. Boston-area college employee fired over repeated antisemitic, racist graffiti

[IsraelTimes] A Boston-area college has fired an employee it said was responsible for terrorizing the campus for months with antisemitic and racist messages.

Curry College, in the suburb of Milton, announced Thursday it had identified the perpetrator of the graffiti dating back to International Holocaust Remembrance Day in January, when swastikas and other hateful messages began appearing on campus.

The college’s president, Kenneth Quigley Jr., said the culprit had been identified with the help of an FBI
...Formerly one of the world's premier criminal investigation organizations, something for a nation to be proud of. Now it's a political arm of the Deep State oligarchy that is willing to trump up charges, suppress evidence, or take out insurance policies come election time...
investigation, and that the employee was "terminated and removed from our community." At least five separate acts of vandalism were recorded, targeting both the college’s Jewish and Black students.

The employee is not currently facing state criminal charges, the Boston Globe reported.

"The College recognizes and regrets the impact these bias acts have had on our students, families, faculty, and staff throughout the spring semester and hope this will allow us to continue moving forward," Quigley wrote in his statement. "It is our hope that this will bring some closure to the series of events we all suffered through."

Curry College had taken intense measures to protect students during the height of the graffiti, moving classes online in February after threats against the Black community mentioned a specific date. Hundreds participated in rallies and marches in support of the targeted communities on campus. The school had also offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.

Public schools in Texas would rename slavery as 'involuntary relocation' under new social studies standards proposed to the state's education board: State passed a law in 2021 to remove topics from schools that make students 'feel discomfort'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Somebody is playing silly games for headlines, I suspect. Proposing is easy, but no second grader could even spell those big words, let alone understand them.
  • The Texas State Board of Education is fielding proposals that would update the state's public school social studies curriculum this summer

  • A group of educators proposed to the Board of Ed that slavery be taught as 'involuntary relocation' during second grade social studies

  • Members have now been asked to reconsider the phrasing and their language

  • The board is considering curriculum changes one year after Texas passed a law to eliminate topics from schools that make students 'feel discomfort'

Homicide Clearance Rates Collapse
[HotAir] The next time someone tries to tell you that rising crime rates, particularly for violent crimes, is all some sort of political narrative invented by Republicans in an election year (we’re looking at you, Lori Lightfoot), you can point them to this analysis conducted by CBS News in Baltimore, Maryland. It’s not just your imagination. Violent crimes have continued to rise in frequency, particularly homicides. This awful trend is not just happening in Baltimore, however. It’s showing up in large cities across the country. And to make matters worse, we’re solving far fewer of these killings than we used to. At some point, something is going to have to give.

Baltimore has seen so much pain, with more than 1,500 people killed in the past five years. More than half of those killings remain unsolved.

WJZ, in collaboration with CBS News, is examining a crime often going without punishment in our country. The national homicide clearance rate is at an all-time low, according to FBI data. In the mid-1960s more than 90% of murders were solved, generally resulting in an arrest. By 1990, the percentage fell into the 60’s. Then, by 2020, as the number of homicides surged, the national clearance rate dropped to about 50% for the first time ever.

Our analysis with CBS News also discovered differences by race. The national homicide rate for white victims keeps improving. The rate of solving murders for Black and Hispanic victims is much lower.

Those are some stark numbers. It’s almost hard to believe that we had a 90% clearance rate for murders in the 1960s. Now the national average is down to around 50%. In the city of Baltimore, it’s even worse. The homicide clearance rate there has plunged to 42% even as they are setting records for the number of murders recorded per year. But that’s still an improvement over the 29.7% clearance rate they recorded in 2015. That means that at least half of the people who murder someone are getting away with it and that applies to more than half of the gunmen in Charm City.

Also, as noted in the linked report, the outcomes are not evenly distributed along racial lines. Black and Hispanic people are killed in disproportionately higher numbers when measured against their percentage of the total population. Those figures are largely driven by gang violence in the cities, as we’ve discussed here in the past. But their killers are significantly less likely to be arrested than those who murder white people. The national homicide clearance rate for white victims is nearly 90%. For Black victims, it’s barely 55%.

So why is this happening? How did we get so bad at solving murder cases? CBS asked Governor Larry Hogan and he said that “We’re not prosecuting enough people, and we’re not sentencing enough people.” He pointed out that last year Baltimore prosecuted 30 people out of 300 murders. That seems to be factually true, but it doesn’t answer the question of why.

One factor may be the reality that there simply aren’t enough trained officers to work the tougher murder cases. In New York City, hundreds of detectives (the class of officers typically assigned to solve murder cases) have quit in frustration in the last year alone. We don’t have any figures for detectives in Baltimore, but we do know that the ranks of the police are down overall.

#2  That seems to be factually true, but it doesn’t answer the question of why.

You have no problem blaming one community for slavery that ended over a 150 years ago. You are absolutely silent about the community that is responsible for nearly all of today's killing. You ask why?

#3  The clearance rate is low wherever there is mistrust between the police and community. Same situation when we occupied Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • Gates' firm, Red River Trust, purchased 2,100 acres in the state for $13.5 million

  • But the deal drew scrutiny under a 1932 anti-corporate farm ownership law

  • Now state AG says the deal is legal, because the land will be leased to farmers

[Vesti] In Rovenky in the Lugansk region, an oil depot is on fire after shelling. The relevant information is dispersed in Luhansk public with different assessments - from sabotage to shelling by Ukrainian MLRS. In turn, the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirm the information about the fire at the oil depot.

"The city has been occupied since 2014. Deep rear. There is information about a burning oil depot and a destroyed repair plant," the Ukrainian defenders noted.

Russian mass media claim that the Ukrainian military allegedly used the HIMARS MLRS transferred by America from the Bakhmut direction. True, there are no photos or videos of the fire at the oil depot on the Web. The distance from the Bakhmut direction to Rovenky is 130 km.

And in the unrecognized "DPR" they report that in Yasinovataya, as a result of alleged Ukrainian shelling, a civilian was killed, four more were injured. According to the "head of the city administration" Dmitry Shevchenko, three women (born in 1961, 1975 and 1980), as well as a man (born in 1963), were wounded, and "one man died."

ISW also assesses the shelling by Russians of territories near Slovyansk and the city itself as creating conditions for a further offensive on Slovyansk.

21:24 "If World War III starts, a huge number of American citizens will die in it, and NATO will be to blame. Nothing threatens us, no nation can invade the USA. And if we do not threaten others, there is no real danger of war. Ordinary Americans have nothing to gain from the endless wars we wage under the auspices of NATO and our allies.

And it is important to understand that when the fireball rises, government officials will take refuge and the world's oligarchs will take refuge in underground cities, but everyone else will be burned by their stupidity. We will have to thank NATO for the death of Western civilization": Former US Senator, retired colonel Richard Black - about the real threat to peace

Commander of the Don Cossack detachment urges Cossacks to mobilize
Direct Translation via Google Translate Edited.
[REGNUM] The lifestyle of the Cossack is based on the Orthodox faith and love for the Fatherland, thanks to which the Cossacks have always been the backbone of the state. Real Cossacks, as they were, and remained warriors by nature. Nikolai Dyakonov , commander of the Don Cossack detachment, wrote about this in his telegram channel .

"Brother Cossacks! I call on you to mobilize, to act together as a united front and to complete the destruction of the Nazism that has raised its head in Ukraine. We cannot be divided into registered and social activists, our own and others - among the soldiers of Christ there are no Cossacks of strangers. We announced a muster under our banners for a campaign against Nazism, against those who set it as their goal to destroy us and publicly admitted this. Hurry up to do your manly work,” Dyakonov addressed the Cossacks.

REGNUM reported that in the spring of 2022, the Cossack units went to the Donbass. The volunteer Cossack detachment "Don" named after the Archangel Michael, which included representatives of the Union of Cossack Warriors of Russia and Abroad (SKVRiZ), also takes part in a special operation to protect the republics of Donbass.

IA REGNUM notes that the SRSPU named after Platov (formerly the Novocherkassk Polytechnic Institute) is one of the oldest in the South of Russia and the first Cossack in the history of the country. On the basis of the military institute of the SRSPU, a Cossack village was created, and later - the Cossack Platov Hundred of young Cossacks. Among other things, young Cossacks master such disciplines as the organization of Cossack self-government, legal support for the activities of Cossack societies, the basics of Orthodox culture, and the economy of Cossack regions.

Cossacks will ride in memory of the 110th Kalmyk Cavalry Division

[REGNUM] Cossacks of the military Cossack society "Great Don Army" will make a horse march in memory of the feat of the 110th Kalmyk Cavalry Division. This was reported to IA REGNUM today, July 1, by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy of Kalmykia.

The cavalry will set off on July 10. The route of the Cossacks runs through the places of military glory of grandfathers and great-grandfathers, who in 1942 detained the many times superior forces of the Nazi troops on the Don, ensuring the crossing of a number of formations of the Red Army.

The beginning of the campaign will be laid in the Small Derbets, where the 110th Kalmyk cavalry division was formed. The riders will be dressed in the military uniform of the cavalrymen of the 1942 model. In 12 days, the horsemen will travel 470 km, visit memorable places in Kalmykia and the Rostov region, and commemorate the dead during the Great Patriotic War with a minute of silence.

The horse crossing will end in the village of Razdorskaya, Ust-Donetsk region, where Hero of the Soviet Union Erdni Delikov took his last fight .

Russian missiles kill at least 18 in Ukraine's Odesa region
[NYPOST] Russian missile attacks on residential areas in a coastal town near the Ukrainian port city of Odesa early Friday killed at least 18 people, including two children, authorities reported, a day after Russian forces withdrew from a strategic Black Sea island.

Video of the pre-dawn attack showed the charred remains of buildings in the small town of Serhiivka, located about 31 miles southwest of Odesa. Ukrainian news reports said missiles struck a multi-story apartment building and a resort area.

"A terrorist country is killing our people. In response to defeats on the battlefield, they fight civilians," Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

The deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Kirill Tymoshenko, said 18 people died, including two children. A front man for the Odesa regional government, Serhiy Bratchuk, said on the Telegram messaging app that another 30 had been injured.

Sixteen of the 18 victims died in the strike on the apartment building, Ukrainian emergency officials said.

The Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s followed the pullout of Russian forces from Snake Island on Thursday, a move that was expected to potentially ease the threat to nearby Odesa. The island sits along a busy shipping lane. Russia took control of it in the opening days of the war in the apparent hope of using it as a staging ground for an assault on Odesa.

North Korea blames COVID outbreak on balloons from South Korea
North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
is blaming its COVID-19 outbreak on "alien things" — including balloons flown from South Korea.

The state media report said the hermit kingdom’s epidemic prevention center had found COVID clusters in the town of Ipho near its southeastern border with South Korea and that some Ipho residents with feverish symptoms traveled to Pyongyang.

The center said an 18-year-old soldier and a 5-year-old child had contact with "alien things" in the town located in the eastern county of Kumgang in early April and later tested positive for the Omicron variant.

In what it called "an emergency instruction," the epidemic prevention center ordered officials to "vigilantly deal with alien things coming by wind and other climate phenomena and balloons" along the inter-Korean border and trace their sources. It also stressed that anyone finding "alien things" must notify authorities immediately so they could be removed.

The reports did not specify what the "alien things" were. But laying the blame on things flown across the border likely is a way to ease public complaints about its handling of the pandemic while repeating its objections to the ballooning activities of North Korean defectors and activists in South Korea, observers say.

Nowcast by Atlanta Fed Reserve says Q2 had negative growth
This is directly from the Fed Reserve - not a 'journalist', so it is technical
The GDPNow model estimate for real GDP growth (seasonally adjusted annual rate) in the second quarter of 2022 is -1.0 percent on June 30, down from 0.3 percent on June 27. After recent releases from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis and the US Census Bureau, the nowcasts of second-quarter real personal consumption expenditures growth and real gross private domestic investment growth decreased from 2.7 percent and -8.1 percent, respectively, to 1.7 percent and -13.2 percent, respectively, while the nowcast of the contribution of the change in real net exports to second-quarter GDP growth increased from -0.11 percentage points to 0.35 percentage points

#1  "However, the Atlanta Fed’s GDPNow measure, which tracks economic data in real time and adjusts continuously, sees second-quarter output contracting by 2.1%. Coupled with the first-quarter’s decline of 1.6%, that would fit the technical definition of recession."

#2  Unfortunately, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

The hope here is that the Fed will stick to its anti-inflation guns and not wimp out as it did throughout the early- and mid-70s, which only makes the inevitable solution much more painful.

Berlin preps 'huge thermos' to help heat homes this winter
[AlAhram] The rust-colored tower rising from an industrial site near the banks of Berlin's Spree river looks nothing like the sleek flasks Germans use for coffee, yet its purpose is similar: to provide some warmth throughout the day, especially when it's cold outside.

With a height of 45 meters (almost 150 feet) and holding up to 56 million liters (14.8 million gallons) of hot water, utility company Vattenfall says the tower will help heat Berlin homes this winter even if Russian gas supplies dry up.

``It's a huge thermos that helps us to store the heat when we don't need it,'' said Tanja Wielgoss, who heads the Sweden-based company's heat unit in Germany. ``And then we can release it when we need to use it.''

While district heating systems fueled by coal, gas or waste have been around for more than a century, most aren't designed to store significant amounts of heat. Instead, they burn as much fossil fuel as needed, contributing to the greenhouse gas emissions that are driving global warming.

By contrast, the new facility unveiled Thursday at Vattenfall's Reuter power station will hold water brought to almost boiling temperature using electricity from solar and wind power plants across Germany. During periods when renewable energy exceeds demand the facility effectively acts as a giant battery, though instead of storing electricity it stores heat.

``Sometimes you have an abundance of electricity in the grids that you cannot use anymore, and then you need to turn off the wind turbines,'' said Wielgoss. ``Where we are standing we can take in this electricity.''

The 50-million-euro ($52 million) facility will have a thermal capacity of 200 Megawatts - enough to meet much of Berlin's hot water needs during the summer and about 10% of what it requires in the winter. The vast, insulated tank can keep water hot for up to 13 hours, helping bridge short periods when there's little wind or sun.

It will also be able to use other sources of heat - such as that extracted from wastewater, said Wielgoss. While it will be Europe's biggest heat storage facility when it's completed at the end of this year, an even bigger one is already being planned in the Netherlands.

Berlin's top climate official, Bettina Jarasch, said the faster such heat storage systems are built, the better.

``Due to its geographic location the Berlin region is even more dependent on Russian fossil fuels than other parts of Germany,`` she told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. ``That's why we're really in a hurry here.''

``The war in Ukraine and the energy crisis teach us that we need to be faster,'' said Jarasch.

``First of all to become climate neutral,`` she said. ``And secondly, to become independent (of energy imports).''

Figures released Thursday by Germany's utility industry association BDEW shows efforts to reduce natural gas use are having an effect.

Consumption of gas dropped by 14.3% in the first five months of this year compared to the same period in 2021.

Part of the decline was due to milder weather, but the industry group said even accounting for warmer temperatures there was a measurable drop that it attributed to bumpier economic conditions, appeals from the German government to save energy and individuals' personal efforts.

Wielgoss said she was confident that Vattenfall's customers won't go cold this winter, despite the looming gas squeeze from Russia as Moscow retaliates for Western sanctions by reducing the gas flowing through key pipelines.

``Consumers in Germany are very well protected,'' she said. ``So they for sure will not suffer any shortages. But of course, we plead with everybody to really start saving energy.''

``Each kilowatt hour we save is good for the country,'' she added.

#2  /\ Someone is clever in spending Other Peoples Money™.
"...and about 10% of what it requires in the winter."
"...using electricity from solar and wind power plants across Germany."
"...insulated tank can keep water hot for up to 13 hours"
So it is 50-million-euro ($52 million) that could have been invested in a small nuclear facility, for example, that actually generates energy when they will desperately need it in the cold weather. Madness...
