Ten die in Buffalo, NY supermarket shooting; killer posted manifesto online
BLUF: Legally adult white racist arms up and goes to town in a Black neighbourhood grocery store in the big city. Mentally ill, psychopath, or just plain evil?
Update: see also here.
[NYPost] Workers and shoppers described the chaos and carnage at the Tops supermarket in Buffalo when an 18-year-old opened fire at the store in what officials called a racially-motivated mass shooting on Saturday that left 10 people dead and three others injured.

The shooting sent those in the store fleeing for their lives outside of the nearest exit, or hiding in coolers. Several friends and family members of those who were at the store are awaiting any news of their loved ones hours later.

Officials have not yet released the names of the victims, but said 11 of those shot were black and two were white. One victim is a retired Buffalo police officer.

Shonnell Harris, an operation manager at the Tops, told The Buffalo News she heard 70 shots ring out in the market, which was “packed” with weekend shoppers.

The shooter has been identified as Payton Gendron, of Conklin, New York, which is over three hours away from Buffalo.

Manifesto attributed to Buffalo shooting suspect pushes antisemitic conspiracies

[IsraelTimes] Screed posted online before mass shooting espouses white supremacist, anti-Black and anti-Jewish conspiracy theories; calls for ’real war’ against the Jewish people.

A man suspected of killing 10 people in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday appeared to target Black Americans, in what authorities called "racially motived violent mostly peaceful extremism."

In an alleged manifesto posted online before the attack, Payton Gendron, 18, also directed intense hatred at Jews, expressed support for Nazism and subscribed to the antisemitic and racist Great Replacement conspiracy theory, which says Jews are plotting to replace white Americans with non-whites.

The 180-page manifesto circulating online included the alleged shooter’s name, described the attack plans and matched statements from law enforcement. Researchers from the Anti-Defamation League cited the document and said it wasn’t clear where it was first posted.

The manifesto attributed to Gendron was rooted in the white supremacist Great Replacement conspiracy theory, which says Jews are responsible for non-white immigration, and that non-whites will overwhelm and wipe out the white race.

Robert Bowers, who killed 11 people at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue in 2018, also cited the conspiracy theory before his attack. The white supremacist who killed one worshiper at a synagogue in Poway, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, said Jews were responsible for the genocide of "white Europeans."

The author of Saturday’s manifesto wrote that the shooting was meant to kill and intimidate non-whites and spread his ideas. He said he was mainly inspired by the shooter who killed 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019. He also named the Poway attacker, Bowers and other white supremacist mass shooters.

Gendron’s alleged manifesto closely resembled a document posted by the New Zealand shooter, and in some cases appeared to duplicate it, the ADL said.

He said he was acting alone, not affiliated with any particular group, and had been radicalized online starting in 2020. The author explicitly endorsed neo-Nazi
...adherents of a philosophy that was seen even at the time as pure evil, which makes them either consciously and purely evil, or attention-seeking ratbags. Pick one, or both....
sm, white supremacy
...the pernicious doctrine that laws were intended to be obeyed, that society works better when people don't pour shreiking from their places of worship every Friday for a weekend of rioting over insults real or imagined; and that cannibalism, beastiality, incest, murder, theft, rape, and similar activities are bad. A Dead White European (which invalidates his opinion) philosopher once opined that societies thrive when a person's word can be relied upon, and that a society which puts individual happiness first will invariably fail. Strangely enough, other successful societies, such as China, Japan, Korea, and those kinds of places could also be lumped with white supremacist societies, since they push the same values...
and fascism
...a political system developed in Italy, symbolized by the Roman fasces -- thin reeds, each flimsy in itself but unbreakable when bound into a bundle. Its distinguishing philosophical feature is the Corporate State, which is the alliance of big business and labor with the government in service to the all-powerful State. The word is nowadays thrown around by all sorts of oddballs who have no idea what they're talking about...
in the document.

He said he had targeted Black people, but that Jews were "the biggest problem."

He said Black Americans were killing white people and taking public funding, and Jews were responsible, and that although he was targeting Black Americans, Jews "can be dealt with in time."

In the manifesto, Gendron allegedly called for a war between Jews and non-Jews.

"The real war I’m advocating for is the gentiles vs the Jews. We outnumber them 100x, and they are not strong by themselves," he wrote.

He also wrote that he was inspired to stream his attack online by another shooting that was broadcast on the platform Twitch for about 35 minutes, in a reference to the 2019 Halle Synagogue shooting in Germany, according to the ADL.

The ADL told The Times of Israel it was important for the public to know the alleged shooter’s motivations and be aware of the influence and danger of the Great Replacement theory.

Wearing a hospital gown, Gendron was arraigned in court Saturday evening on first-degree murder charges and ordered detained without bail. Another court hearing is scheduled for next week. He was being questioned on Saturday evening by the FBI.

This POS hunted down and murdered 10 people like they were part of some Electronic Game App. he played at home.

Since there is no legally useable death penalty in the state of New York. This POS will now be housed, fed, receive lots of comfort and attention over the likely next 50 years. Who knows, NY Liberals might even co-ed the prisons with Transgenders for some added comfort.

NOTE: A typical NY State Inmate will cost the taxpayers $82K per year, thus costing the NY Taxpayers well over $4,100,000.00 for his estimated 50 year stay.

In the meantime, 10 families will suffer the costs of burial, and loss of income and family. Plus the wounded will have hospital and rehab costs not covered by the NY Taxpayers.

So where is the Justice?

It is time dust off Old Sparky

#2  So where is the Justice?

In a blue state? Even the hated bugaboo of a reel life "white supremacis" won't get what most of us would consider justice.

They will ostentatiously try him and hand him off to the feds for a "hate crimes" trial which will result in a federal death sentence at a time when there is a moratorium on those. See: Dylan Roof.

Took a few mins over on the CFP site and read the POS's manifesto.

I quickly noted the manifesto writing level seemed too be way to College Professor level for an 18-year-old.

NOTE: The POS was only a NY Regent HS grad... not a MENSA student.

NY Students take Regents exams after dropping out of high school to earn a diploma (GED).

So who wrote it for the POS?

#11  If you spew racism long enough as a political/media tactic to justify favoritism to a political ally, voila, you get "push back" as Maxine Waters is fond of saying.

Sadly, this is also exactly what the race-industry has been hoping for as a proof of their claims of widespread white-supremacist attitude. America is NOT a racist country, but the never-ending demokrat claims began in earnest with Obama and his political rise to the Presidency. Seen as a proven technique to advance the entire spectrum of "progressive" socialism and cultural revolution, it has been amped up ever since then. A hagiography of media stories about disproportionate victimhood has been built as justification for increasingly overt anti-white racism as public policy. This tragedy has its roots in the dreck of that miasma.

This is a hate crime and deserving of capitol punishment, and that standard needs to be applied equally every time!

As long as Affirmative Action is the law of the land, I disagree with this statement.

As long a BLM gets a pass for rioting, burning and looting while January 6 suspects linger in jail without charges or bail, I disagree with this statement.

As long as Joe Biden claims that white supremacy is the biggest threat to America, I disagree with this statement.

Racism is alive and well in America today. It's just not the kind that you might think.

Abortion rights backers rally in anger over post-Roe future
WASHINGTON (AP) — Abortion rights supporters demonstrating at hundreds of marches and rallies Saturday expressed their outrage that the Supreme Court appears prepared to scrap the constitutional right to abortion that has endured for nearly a half-century and their fear about what that could mean for women’s reproductive choices.

Incensed after a leaked draft opinion suggested the court’s conservative majority would overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, activists spoke of the need to mobilize quickly because Republican-led states are poised to enact tighter restrictions.

In the nation’s capital, thousands gathered in drizzly weather at the Washington Monument to listen to fiery speeches before marching to the Supreme Court, which was surrounded by two layers of security fences.

The mood was one of anger and defiance, three days after the Senate failed to muster enough votes to codify Roe v. Wade.

"I can’t believe that at my age, I’m still having to protest over this," said Samantha Rivers, a 64-year-old federal government employee who is preparing for a state-by-state battle over abortion rights.

Caitlin Loehr, 34, of Washington, wore a black T-shirt with an image of the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s "dissent" collar on it and a necklace that spelled out "vote."

Dred Scott was constitutional from 1857 to 1866, when it was superseded by the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments.

Get Congress to pass a law, if you can.

Living persons whose parents chose to have them and raise them are now demanding the right to KILL in order to clean up their own actions due to their lack of personal responsibility.

Some Simple Math
A typical birth control shot provides about 12 weeks of prevention, and most insurance plans cover the shot.

A 30 day supply of birth control pills cost $25 or less, and/or a Condom costs about $2.

An abortion $750 to $1,500.

US court partially blocks Alabama's gender-affirmation ban
Where is Germany along the spectrum of refusing or embracing the mutilation of children? We know from the emotive language seen here where Deutsche Welle stands for Americans in Red states.
[DW] An Alabama ban on the provision of gender-affirming medication for minors has been blocked by a federal judge. Transgender rights have become a bone of contention for right-wing Republicans.

A US district court issued an injunction on Friday partially blocking an Alabama law that criminalizes the prescription of hormone therapies and puberty blockers used to align transgender people's bodies with their gender identity.

The Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act came into effect in the southern state on May 8, not only banning medication treatments for gender dysphoria but also gender-affirming surgeries. Those convicted of violating the ban face up to 10 years in prison.

Judge Liles Burke left in place the latter part of the ban but ruled that the state had not been able to prove that medications used for transitioning were "experimental."

The injunction will remain in effect pending a trial to decide whether the law is in violation of the constitution.

UNCONSTITUTIONAL LAW
In his ruling, Burke said that "the uncontradicted evidence is that at least twenty-two major medical associations in the United States endorse transitioning medications as well-established, evidence-based treatments for gender dysphoria in minors."

These medical associations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Pediatric Endocrine Society, called on Burke to block the Alabama law.

He said that the provisions in the law are likely unconstitutional. The US Department of Justice, as well as several families with transgender children, have challenged the law, calling it a violation of equal protection and free speech rights, as well as an intrusion into a family's right to make medical decisions.

"Parents have a fundamental right to direct the medical care of their children subject to accepted medical standards," Burke said, adding that "discrimination based on gender non-conformity equates to sex discrimination."

BACKLASH AGAINST TRANSGENDER RIGHTS
The law, introduced by Republican politicians in the traditionally conservative state, is part of an ongoing battle over the recognition of transgender rights in the US.

Another part of the law that was not blocked by Burke's injunction was the requirement for schools to inform parents if a child says that they think they are transgender.

A similar law in Arkansas was blocked before it could come into effect, while another law in Texas that allowed authorities to investigate parents of transgender children for so-called "child abuse" was blocked in March.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
on Friday the Texas Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
overturned this injunction, allowing the investigations to once again go ahead.

The slate of legislation against transgender rights has coincided with increasing limitations on child sacrifice abortion rights in some US states.

Florida man shocked to find 8-foot alligator on front porch
[NYPOST] It’s not every day that an 8-foot alligator comes to visit you at your front door. Well, maybe in Florida it is.

It was not the doormat Ed Ferraro was expecting Wednesday afternoon when he walked out of his home in Odessa. He heard a rattling at the front door and assumed it was some sort of package delivery. But that was far from the truth.

"I got up, and I went out there to go check on what it was, and fortunately, I cracked my blinds. I just looked out there, and I saw this monster alligator on my front porch," Ferraro said. "It definitely freaked me out. It’s not something you see every day."

He initially thought the giant reptile was fake, and he was simply the victim of a prank.

"But I then I started looking at it. I’m like, ’Oh no, this is definitely a real, very real thing. I was just completely dumbfounded," he said.

Thankfully, a neighbor driving by stopped her car and was on the phone with neighborhood security guards, who ended up contacting the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The area was soon cordoned off to prevent any unsuspecting joggers or dog walkers from having a face-to-face encounter.

Ferraro said they occasionally see gators in their neighborhood’s lakes and ponds, but they really don’t venture near people.

"Apparently this one had come from across the street. Why the alligator crossed the road? I do not know," he joked.

Ferraro assumed the gator needed a place for shade to cool off. Temperatures at time were about 85 degrees. And before the trapper could even get to his home, the gator got up and moseyed back into the lake. And that was it.

"I had a bird fly into my house one time and that was a whole other experience and never anything even close to this," Ferraro said. "They kind of tend to keep their distance from the people in this neighborhood. They actually restock the lakes with fish to make sure that the gators have more than enough food so they don’t have to go after small pets," Ferraro said.

State officials say an alligator is considered a nuisance if it’s at least 4 feet in length and believed to pose a threat to people, pets or property.

Western Weapons in Ukraine Being Sold On via Encrypted Messaging App
Unconfirmed reporting:
[Breitbart] Military-grade weaponry in Ukraine is allegedly being sold on to international buyers on the encrypted messaging app Telegram, including some hardware made in the United States.

Weapons that have been allegedly collected in Ukraine during the country’s ongoing war with Russia have been put up for sale on Telegram channels, including various kinds of automatic rifles and small arms.

Weapons said to be for sale include not just Ukrainian-origin arms such as old Soviet-era AK-47 rifles, but also American-made rifles like the M16 and the M4, along with other NATO member-origin firearms like the ARX 160 A1 manufactured by the Italian weapons company Beretta, newspaper Il Giornale reports.

It remains unclear whether the weapons are being sold by Ukrainians or by Russians who have collected them over the course of the war.

Ukraine opens first war crimes trial of captured Russian
[ALAHRAM] As the trial of 21-year-old Russian Sgt. Vadim Shyshimarin got underway in the capital, Russian forces suffered heavy losses in a Ukrainian attack that destroyed a pontoon bridge they were using to try to cross a river in the east, Ukrainian and British officials said in another sign of Moscow's struggle to salvage a war gone awry.

Ukraine's airborne command released photos and video of what it said was a damaged Russian pontoon bridge over the Siversky Donets River in Bilohorivka and at least 73 destroyed or damaged Russian military vehicles nearby.

Britain's Defense Ministry said Russia lost ``significant armoured manoeuvre elements`` of at least one battalion tactical group in the attack. A Russian battalion tactical group consists of about 1,000 troops.

Transnistria becomes potential hotspot in Russia's war
[KYIVINDEPENDENT] Moldova’s Russian-occupied Transnistria region is becoming a new focal point in Moscow’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

Tensions have been rising over the fate of the breakaway republic after several explosions have been reported in Transnistria, which lorussical Russian-led authorities claimed were attacks by Ukraine.

One theory is that Russia may try to use its stronghold in Transnistria to either launch an attack against Ukraine from the west, opening a second front, or divert the Ukrainian army’s attention from the more important battle for Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region.

Russia may also be trying to destabilize Moldova and discredit its pro-Western President Maia Sandu. A related purpose would be to send a signal to Romania, a NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
member and Moldova’s strongest backer in the West.

Transnistria, populated by Moldovans, Ukrainians and Russians, proclaimed independence in 1991 but it has not been recognized by any state. Russia, which backed Transnistria, invaded Moldova in 1992 and permanently deployed troops in the breakaway region. Sandu has called Russia’s military presence in Transnistria illegitimate and called for the withdrawal of Russian troops.

INCIDENTS
The escalation in Transnistria in recent weeks seemingly followed the pattern of Russia’s provocations in the run-up to its large-scale invasion of Ukraine, which started on Feb. 24.

On April 25, Russia’s proxies in Transnistria said that the building of the self-proclaimed republic’s State Security Ministry (MGB) in the city of Tiraspol had been fired at from grenade launchers. They also claimed that a drone had attacked a military airfield near Tiraspol.

On April 26, the proxies said that radio antennas had been blown up in the town of Mayak in Transnistria. The towers were used to broadcast Russian radio.

The proxies also said that a military base in the village of Parkany had been attacked.

As a result, Transnistria raised its terrorism threat level to "red." Ukraine’s military intelligence claimed that Transnistria had also started military training as part of future mobilization.

Vadym Krasnoselsky, the leader of Russia’s Transnistria proxies, blamed Ukraine for the incidents. Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch shot Ike through the elbow. Take that, Ike! he yelled......
Russian propaganda accused Ukraine, Romania and Moldova of planning to invade Transnistria.

On April 27, Transnistria also claimed that Ukrainian drones had shelled unidentified objects "in the direction of" the Transnistrian village of Kolbasna, where a large arms depot is located.

At the same time, in late April-early May Russia shelled a bridge across the estuary of the Dniester not far from Transnistria three times, and destroyed it.

#1  I'm definitely not here to shill for the Russians; but this article isn't historically accurate. If I may make a few points?

1) The Russians didn't "invade" Transnistria. There was a Soviet military base (basically a giant ammo dump) there when Moldova was an SSR. The Russian successor government kept it, and also support the Transnistrians, who are basically Russians.

2) There was a nasty little civil war there between 1990-1992. You can read about it here. Transnistria is (or was) the heavily industrialized region of Moldova, and mostly Russian. Moldova was talking about joining Romania, as Moldovans are basically Romanians. The Russians/Transnistrians weren't down with that. Hence, a thirty year stalemate.

3)The Moldovans, Transnistrians, and Russians together run something called the Joint Control Commission to oversea the Transnitrian/Moldovan border and keep things calm. You can read about it here. It's not perfect. But nobody's sons have come home in body bags for thirty years.

The Kyiv Independent isn't being very independent when it comes to specifically this topic.

Ukrainian forces hold off Russians in Donetsk Oblast
[KYIVINDEPENDENT] The perfect sunny spring morning in Donetsk Oblast was marred by the constant explosions going off every few minutes a dozen kilometers away.

The blasts were varied, coming from artillery and rocket barrages from both sides. A half-dozen soldiers held this outpost a short distance away from the front lines, north of the city of Sloviansk. Military cars hurried by, toward or away from the ongoing battle.

The woods seem packed with Ukrainian tanks, armored personnel carriers, artillery and other heavy weapons, concealed by the young green foliage.

Dark track marks could be seen on the paved roads, suddenly swerving into dirt furrows plunging into the woods. Driving through the forest, one can sometimes see the camouflaged outlines of the occasional Ukrainian combat vehicle, with servicemen resting, eating or being vigilant.

In a rare moment of silence, one could hear the hum of thousands of flies and mosquitoes hovering among the trees that cast dappled shadows onto the road. This was swiftly interrupted by violent mostly peaceful detonations in the distance.

"Minus one village," said one of the soldiers, turning his head in that direction.

The date was May 9, the anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany during World War II, the last time Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
saw an offensive on such a large scale. Some expected the attacks to intensify for the occasion. But fighting’s been such a regular presence here since the war began that the holiday didn’t seem to come with a noteworthy escalation.

"The enemy is firing along the entire line of contact and trying to strike deep into the defenses of our troops," Oleksandr Motuzyanyk, a Ministry of Defense front man, said at a May 9 briefing.

"Well, it’s a special day for them," said one of the soldiers at the outpost. But another took a dismissive tone: "It’s been a special day for them for three months."

The Russian offensive in Donbas has bogged down, making at-best modest progress. While the soldiers at the outpost acknowledged that they’ve tactically withdrawn from at least one village recently, they continue to hold the line.

Since the latest Battle of the Donbas began, Russian forces have tried to execute a massive push along the highway leading from the city of Izium in Kharkiv Oblast to Slovyansk in Donetsk Oblast. It was supposed to link up with another push from the south and cut the Ukrainian forces off from their supply lines and the rest of the country. Over several weeks of fighting, the Russians advanced by no more than 20-30 kilometers along their attack axes.

Significant Russian forces remain north of the Siverskyi Donets River, which they are having trouble crossing, according to Volodymyr, a retired Ukrainian Lieutenant Colonel from Izium, who now lives in the city of Kramatorsk.

The southern banks of this river are considerably steeper than the northern banks, creating a difficult boundary, Volodymyr pointed out. This is especially apparent in the village of Bohorodychne, where a demolished bridge across the river sags into the water. The Ukrainian-held bank towers over its opposite, bristling with trees.

According to British Intelligence’s May 13 tweets, the Ukrainian forces are halting the Russians’ attempts to cross the river and forced them to take heavy losses during a fording attempt west of Sieverodonetsk.

"Images indicate that during the crossing of the Siverskyi Donets river... Russia lost significant armored maneuver elements of at least one Battalion Tactical Group," the British Intelligence statement read.

OSINT analyst Blue Sauron wrote that the Russians lost 73 combat vehicles.

The road into Bohorodychne is flanked by several plain, wooden orthodox crosses that look like they’ve been planted recently. "Eternal memory" one of them reads, the local version of the ’RIP’ placed on gravestones. "Save and protect us," says another.

A retiree named Volodymyr Semenets, sitting on the bench near his home in Bohorodychne, said the Ukrainian forces told him that Russians are unlikely to occupy this village, even though it practically straddles the line between the two opposing armies. Semenets hears daily exchanges of fire. Most munitions fly over the village but not all, as multiple broken windows and damaged houses can attest.

"This area is usually wreathed in smoke," Semenets said. "How could (the Russians) see what they are shooting at? They just shoot and that’s it."

Despite the danger, he and his wife refuse to abandon their property and animals for the uncertainty of western Ukraine. Humanitarian aid reaches them once a week, he said. Some other towns and villages along Russia’s attack path have it worse, with many cut off from regular supplies or medical professionals, said doctors in the city of Kramatorsk.

According to Brigadier General Oleksiy Hromov’s May 11 briefing, the town of Lyman is now seeing some of the region’s fiercest battles.

As they awaited their eventual turn in the meat grinder, soldiers smoked and discussed recent news, such as the visit to the country by actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie. One young soldier, nicknamed the Merry Milkman for his love of condensed milk, said that rather than munching croissants in Lviv, Jolie should come to hang out at their checkpoint.

"Isn’t she a little old for you?" quipped one of his fellows. "Are you going to be chasing pensioners next?"

Another soldier asked if it’s true that Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
is severely ill. Everyone’s seen the Russian leader clutching furniture, limping, coughing and being covered with a blanket in his recent video appearances. But Putin’s proximity to death’s door is not something this journalist could confidently confirm — only hope he’s getting there quickly.

"Yes, everyone hopes that," the soldier said.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: May 14th, 2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 23:59 Kalush Orchestra's call to save Mariupol and Azovstal can cost the group victory in the competition and even threaten disqualification. Producer and presenter Igor Kondratyuk said that this is a gross violation of the Eurovision rules.

Meanwhile, some artists use the colors of the Ukrainian flag in their performances at the song contest. And Google statistics show a sharp surge in requests for "Mariupol" and "Azovstal".

23:45 Icelandic group Systur ended their performance in the Eurovision final with the phrase "Peace for Ukraine".

23:28 The director of the Kalush Orchestra group, Mykola Kucheryavy, said earlier today that the group was banned from making a performance with an emphasis on the war: “At first, our number had a fairly strong and clear expression about the war in Ukraine and a clear message. But we were banned, referring to the politicization of our numbers".

23:25 Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that Russia would not capitulate: "We speak firmly and clearly and are unambiguously sure of this, at least the Russian diplomats working here - there will be no such capitulation, there never will be." According to him, all the goals that Putin set for the RF Armed Forces "will be fulfilled."

23:16 The leader of the Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra, after his performance in the Eurovision final, addressed the world community from the stage: "Please help Azovstal, help Mariupol right now!"

23:14 The Luhansk region is gradually turning into a second Mariupol - there is no electricity, water, gas and mobile communications in the region, Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova said. She noted that the Russian military continues to strike at the important Lisichansk-Bakhmut highway. This is the only road that can be used to evacuate people and bring in humanitarian supplies. More than 40,000 residents have not been evacuated. The situation in the region is getting worse day by day.

23:07 Zelensky said in an evening address that now support for Ukraine - primarily with weapons - means working to prevent global hunger: "The sooner we liberate our land and guarantee Ukraine's security, the sooner the normal state of the food market can be restored."

The president also acknowledged that the situation in Donbas remains very difficult: "Russian troops are still trying to show at least some kind of victory. On the 80th day of a full-scale invasion, it looks especially crazy, but they do not stop all these attempts."

22:55 German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock is skeptical about the possibility of transferring frozen Russian assets to Ukraine: "Access to frozen funds from a legal point of view is not an easy task at all."

22:52 The G7 foreign ministers sent an "unusually tough" message to Beijing. They called for peace and stability in Taiwan and urged "strongly urge Russia to stop its military aggression against Ukraine," writes Politico.

"We urge China not to assist Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine, not to undermine the sanctions imposed on Russia for its attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, not to justify Russia's actions in Ukraine, and to refrain from engaging in information manipulation and disinformation," it said. in the message.

22:23 Ukraine has lost about 23% of its railway network, said Minister of Infrastructure Alexander Kubrakov. According to him, 6,300 km of main tracks were lost, 23,573 km of roads were damaged, 289 automobile and 41 railway bridges were damaged.

22:21 The occupiers are preparing to cross the Seversky Donets River in Belogorovka again, said the head of the Luhansk OVA Serhiy Gaidai. “Some idiots understood why they were being sent there, and the whole battalion refused to go on the attack. Now the occupiers have passed into the third phase of the war, when they begin to prepare for the defense of the lines where they stopped.

"This indicates that they have decided to turn the war into a very long one ... They expect that the crises that the war causes will put the West at the negotiating table with them, and the West will try to exchange us for something," the adviser explained.

07:48 In the Donetsk and Tauride directions, the enemy used mortars, cannon artillery, multiple launch rocket systems and aircraft in order to inflict maximum losses on the Defense Forces, deplete personnel and destroy fortifications, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports in the morning report . In addition, the enemy is trying to improve the tactical situation in the areas of the settlements of Kamyshevakha, Krasnogorovka, Novomikhailovka, Konstantinovka and Pobeda - he has no luck.

07:22 Zelensky will speak via video link at the World Economic Forum in Davos on May 23. Personally in Davos, Ukraine will be represented by the Minister of Digital Transformation Mikhail Fedorov and the Mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko.

07:16 Azov in Mariupol destroyed about six thousand Russian soldiers, along with the general, said the deputy commander of the regiment, Captain Svyatoslav Palamar, during the Kiev Security Forum. According to him, the enemy prevailed in terms of the number of people and weapons. The grouping consisted of about 14,000 people, including Wagner PMC militants. 78 tanks and more than a hundred armored vehicles were also destroyed.

07:08 The American Institute for the Study of War believes that Ukraine most likely won the battle for Kharkov. Moscow is conducting an orderly withdrawal of its forces from near Kharkov, not trying to hold positions. That is, the Russian Federation does not conduct large-scale battles for the liberated settlements.

Analysts note that the Russians failed to encircle Kharkov, these plans can be considered failed. At the moment, they call the goal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine the disruption of communications between the Belgorod region and the enemy grouping, which operates in the Izyum direction. However, according to experts, these lines of communication are largely inaccessible to Ukrainians. Especially to the east of Kharkov, where there is a water barrier - Seversky Donets.

00:02 The Russian army has big problems with personnel at the front in Ukraine, there are not enough people, but instead of open mobilization, they are trying to carry it out covertly. Details on how this happens are in the material To death by advertising .

Russian forces retreat as Ukraine appears to win Battle of Kharkiv
[NYPOST] Ukraine "appears to have won the Battle of Kharkiv," a US think tank said.

The Russian military has withdrawn from its positions around Ukraine’s second-largest city "in the face of Ukrainian counteroffensives and the limited availability of reinforcements," said the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Russian units were unable to hold ground against the Ukrainian fighters over the past several days, the ISW said, and were prevented from encircling the city in northeast Ukraine.

As they retreated, however, they continued to bombard the eastern Donetsk province in order to "deplete Ukrainian forces and destroy fortifications," the Ukrainian military said Saturday.

Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said the country was "entering a new — long-term — phase of the war."

The comments came two days after a major Ukranian victory at the Siverskiy Donets River, an area about 25 miles east of Kharkiv which Russia previously controlled. The battle ended with Russian tanks and other destroyed equipment littering the area around the river.

Ukranian forces have moved into some of the villages surrounding Kharkiv that have been controlled by Russia since the early days of the war, CNN
...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for...
reported.

The mayor of Kharkiv told the BBC that the Russians withdrew from the city and were moving in the direction of the Russian border. Ihor Terekhov said Russian troops never occupied the city, but entered just a small part of it once, and had not been there for some time.

"The Russians were constantly shelling Kharkiv because they were staying very close to the city," Terekhov said. "Now it is calm in Kharkiv and people are gradually coming back to the city. We provide water, gas and electricity supply to all the citizens. However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
unfortunately, many residential buildings are destroyed or damaged. So, in the future we will have to do huge reconstruction."

"There was no shelling in the city for the last five days. There was only one attempt from Russians to hit the city with a missile rocket near Kharkiv airport, but the missile was eliminated by Ukrainian Air Defense," Terekhov said.

Separately, Ukraine’s head of military intelligence said the war is going so well he expects it to reach a turning point by mid-August and be over by the end of the year.

Major General Kyrylo Budanov told Sky News he’s "optimistic" about the progress of the war.

"The breaking point will be in the second part of August," he said. "Most of the active combat actions will have finished by the end of this year."

The same official correctly predicted when the invasion would happen, while others in his government questioned the idea that Russia would start the war.

He now predicts Ukraine will not only drive Russia out, but reclaim both the eastern breakaway regions known as the Donbas and the Crimea, which Russia seized in 2014.

"We know everything about our enemy. We know about their plans almost as they’re being made," Budanov said. "Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
sees Russia as a big threat. They are afraid of its aggression.

"We have been fighting Russia for eight years and we can say that this highly publicized Russian power is a myth. It is not as powerful as this. It is a horde of people with weapons."

Budanov also said a coup to remove Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
is already under way in Russia and the Russian leader is seriously ill with cancer.

Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said the country was "entering a new — long-term — phase of the war."
REUTERS/Kai Pfaffenbach
His bold predictions were countered by Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said in his nightly address that "no one can predict how long this war will last."

#6  The cold war has returned. The red line Putin has drawn is no liberal minded woke response. He will follow thru on his concerns. China and many other countries are right there with him. I see no extensive support or coordination offered to return balance. It appears to me to be very unbalanced at this time. Money and the tools of war will not win against true power developing on the side of nationalism. Think about it. Western countries divided internally. Nationalism is fading fast. The glue that holds a country together.

Muslim refugees in Athens seek own cemetery
[Dawn] Standing by the tiny grave of his five-year-old son in the Orthodox Christian cemetery of Schisto on the outskirts of Athens, Esfandiyar Fagkiri says he feels a "dual pain".

Not only has he lost one of his five children, but the Afghan family cannot mourn him according to Moslem rituals because the cemetery is Christian.
Then send them all, including the dead kid, back to Afghanistan.
Hasibollah Fagkiri was hit and fatally injured by a truck in January 2021 while playing with other children near the entrance to the Malakassa migrant camp, north of Athens, where he had been living with his family since September 2020.

NGOs and local authorities blamed the accident on the camp's poor safety conditions and said it should be shut down.

After burying their son, the Fagkiris were shocked to be told that his body must be exhumed after three years — in 2024.

This is standard procedure in Greek cemeteries due to a chronic lack of space — especially in the greater Athens area where more than a third of the country's population of over 10 million live.

But for Hasibollah's grieving family, it is unthinkable.

Islam does not allow exhumation or cremation and the body remains buried forever, Fagkiri pointed out.

But for people without a paid family grave, "exhumation after three years is mandatory," insisted Dimosthenis Stamatatos, head of an association of municipalities near the cemetery of Schisto.

GROWING NUMBERS
The remains of the dead are often kept in a special annex of the cemetery church.

Greece is a predominantly Orthodox Christian country, and Moslem cemeteries can only be found in Thrace, a region in the northeast of the country near the Greek-Ottoman Turkish border, 750 kilometres from Athens.

The area is home to a centuries-old Moslem minority, a legacy of the Ottoman Empire's presence in the area.

In Athens, the number of Moslems used to be negligible, but this has changed in the wake of the 2015 refugee crisis.

There are now about half-a-million Moslems in the Greek capital after successive migration waves and the arrival of thousands of families from the Middle East, North Africa and the Indian subcontinent fleeing war and poverty.

Thrace is too far away for most families to bury their dead there, and the cost of transferring the bodies is prohibitive.

"Given the high cost of transferring the dead to Thrace, the number of burials of Moslems in Orthodox cemeteries in Athens has increased in recent years," Rezai Mohtar, president of the Afghan community, told a presser last week.

The Covid-19 pandemic has made things even harder for grieving families, he said.

According to Javed Aslam, a leading member of the Pak community in Greece, Moslem migrant communities have long been calling for a cemetery in Athens.

SECTION FOR MOSLEMS
Municipal official Stamatatos pointed out that in 2016 the Orthodox Church of Greece donated 20,000 square metres of land at Schisto cemetery for a section reserved for Moslems.

But a legal dispute with the contractor has delayed the completion of the project.

A bigwig at the Greek ministry of education, which also oversees religious matters, said the project has been given the go-ahead and "will be carried out given the large number of Moslems in Athens".

But rights groups and the main opposition leftist party Syriza are not so optimistic, pointing to the current conservative government's strong anti-migration rhetoric amid recurring allegations of illegal migrant pushbacks at the country's borders.

"When it comes to respect for the rights of migrants colonists and refugees, the context in Greece is negative," said Syriza MP, Giorgos Psychogios.

The first official mosque in Athens opened in November 2020, taking more than a decade to complete after running into strong opposition from the Orthodox Church, as well as from nationalist groups.

Kurdish politicians seek parliament election in German region
The replacement population doing its thing. In this case they’re socialists instead of Moslems.
[Rudaw] Three Kurdish-German politicians in a northwestern region in Germany are seeking to be elected as members of the parliament, as the state prepares to vote on the 18th round of its legislature on Sunday.

The region of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), regarded the most populous in Germany, is home to the largest Kurdish diaspora community in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and has good relations with the Kurdistan Region.

Twenty-nine parties will compete for 181 seats in the parliament, and the upcoming election is considered crucial for NRW’s Kurdish population, with three candidates being of Kurdish origin.

Berivan Aymaz, Serdar Yuksel, and Nasruddin Akay are three Kurdish-German politicians among the candidates running for NRW’s parliament. Yuksel and Aymaz are seeking re-election, while Akay hopes for first time election into the legislature.

Aymaz, 49, is the deputy of NRW’s Green Party and the bloc’s spokesperson for migration and foreign affairs. Born in eastern The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
(Bakur) and residing in the city of Cologne
...the largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth populated city in Germany....
, Aymaz has been an MP of the NRW parliament since 2017.

"According to the predictions, this is the first time in history of my circle that I’m leading in the polls as a Green Party candidate and I have the chance to benefit from the direct votes of this circle, as a woman who was not born in Germany, but it is her home," Aymaz told Rudaw.

Yuksel, 48, has been an active member of NRW’s Social Democratic Party since 1989, and their number one figure in the city of Bochum since 2001. Yuksel’s origins come from Bakur, but he was born in the city of Essen in Germany, and has been a member of the NRW parliament since 2010.

"We are now at a stage where great changes are occurring. There is a war, and we are constantly faced with issues of injustice which has made us very sad. The most important thing is to preserve the socialist state so that we don’t lose democracy and peace," Yuksel said.

The people of NRW highlighted the importance of the upcoming election for their region, and for the preservation of democracy as a whole.

"I will participate in the election process because I want democracy to live. Democracy survives when people go and vote. It is very important to me. I’m going to vote because I don’t want right-wing Lions of Islam to get more votes," social worker Natali Vogt told Rudaw.

The polls predict that the Green Party will see an almost 100% increase in their seats in the elections, while the social democrats are expected to maintain their wins from the previous elections and the Christian democrats are expected to lose many seats.

The Grand Turk
Turkey offers sea evacuation for wounded fighters holed up in Azovstal plant
Turkey has room for such things, now that they’ve resettled so many Syrian refugees across the border in Syrian Kurdistan.

...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
has proposed carrying out a sea evacuation of maimed fighters holed up in a steel works in the southern Ukrainian city of Mariupol, President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
’s front man said on Saturday.

Ibrahim Kalin told Rooters in an interview that he had personally discussed the proposal with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv two weeks ago and that it remains "on the table" although Moscow has not agreed to it.

Under the plan, people evacuated from the vast Azovstal steel plant would be taken by land to the port of Berdyansk, which like Mariupol is on the Sea of Azov, and a Ottoman Turkish vessel would take them across the Black Sea to Istanbul, he said.

"If it can be done that way, we are happy to do it. We are ready. In fact, our ship is ready to go and bring the injured soldiers and other civilians to Turkey," said Kalin, who is also Erdogan’s top foreign policy adviser.

Ukraine and Russia did not immediately comment on the possibility of an evacuation by sea.

After weeks of Russian siege and bombardment, Mariupol is in Russian hands, but hundreds of Ukrainian fighters are holding out under heavy fire at the steel works.

A number of civilians who were sheltering in the plant were evacuated this month with the help of the International Committee of the Red Thingy and the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
. Turkey’s proposal included evacuating the civilians who were still there.

COMPLEX TALKS
Zelenskyy has said complex talks are under way to evacuate a large number of maimed soldiers from the steel works in return for the release of Russian prisoners of war.

Russia, which initially said the fighters should surrender, has said little publicly about the talks.

Kalin said the Russian position "changes day to day."

"They look at the security situation on the ground and other dynamics, their negotiations, their own internal coordination," he said. "So sometimes it is hard to get a firm response [or] commitment from either side."

Turkey neighbors Russia and Ukraine, has good ties with both and has tried to facilitate peace talks. It objected to Russia’s invasion and has supplied Kyiv with armed drones though it also opposes Western sanctions on Moscow.

Kalin said the naval evacuation from Berdyansk was one of a number of proposals to reach a ceasefire and carry out an evacuation.

"It may happen, yes. I believe it may happen," he said.

"The boat is still in Istanbul. It is ready to sail but we are waiting for final clearance from Russian and Ukrainian side for it to go to Berdyansk and bring those injured soldiers to Turkey."

Iraq
Lake Hamrin in Iraq dries up, threatening lives
When it rains, it pours... or not, as the case may be.
[Rudaw] With drought and a lack of rainfall ravaging the country, Lake Hamrin, which once used to supply 80 percent of water to the people of Diyala province, has almost completely dried up.

Around 150,000 acres of farmland in the Hamrin area in northeastern Diyala province are on the brink of desertification, a dangerous development that may force myriads of locals to abandon their regions and seek work elsewhere in urban areas, according to local authorities.

"There was a lot of water here in the past that would reach the residential areas, and the sheep would drink water close to the households. The water has vanished and the sheep are thirsty. Nothing is left behind," Ali Jasim, a young shepherd, told Rudaw's Halkawt Aziz over the weekend.

Lake Hamrin is situated 55 kilometers northeast of Diyala's capital of Baqubah on the Alwand River. The water basin was opened in 1981 to protect the province from seasonal floods, soon becoming a strategic water reservoir in Diyala and capable of holding 2.4 billion cubic meters of water.

"By God, we have lost all we had in possession. You can no longer find a single farmer in this region because the lake has dried up. We used to make a living out of this water," said farmer Mohanad Khalid

Iraq's lakes are drying at an alarming rate. The country's second-largest lake, known as Milh or Razzaza lake, completely dried up in February.

Iraq's water resources ministry has previously warned that the country's water reserves have halved since last year.

Water levels in the Euphrates and Tigris rivers — shared by Iraq, Syria, and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
— have dropped considerably in recent years. In the latest stark warning of the threats a heating climate poses to the country, a report by Iraq's Ministry of Water Resources late last year predicted that unless urgent action is taken to combat declining water levels and climate change, Iraq's two main rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates, will be completely dry by 2040.

Water scarcity is a severe issue in Iraq. The country is the fifth-most vulnerable nation to the effects of climate change, including water and food insecurity, according to the UN, yet it is lagging behind its neighbors when it comes to a plan to protect its water resources.

The effects of low rainfall in Iraq have been exacerbated as the levels of the country's two main rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, drop due to upstream damming in neighboring Iran
