Protesters attacked the French embassy in Burkina Faso’s capital after supporters of the country’s new coup leader accused France of giving refuge to the deposed interim president

The first article:
The former president of Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
, who has been unaccounted for since his overthrow on Friday, offered to resign under certain conditions, the West African nation's religious and customary communities announced in a joint statement on Sunday.

"Following the mediation actions carried out by the said communities, President Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba has himself proposed his resignation in order to avoid festivities with serious human and material consequences," they said in the statement.

According to the statement, Lt. Col. Damiba, who was tossed by fellow junta members, demanded that the new junta, led by Capt. Ibrahim Traore, strengthen cohesion in the defense and security forces, as well as national reconciliation, and that he continue operational activities on the ground.

He also demanded that the junta respects the commitments made to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), that it continues to reform the state, guarantees his security and rights, and those of his collaborators.

"Burkina Faso is going through moments of uncertainty. In these difficult times, there is a risk of escalation with dramatic consequences," said community and religious leaders as mediators between the warring parties.

PROTESTS DAMAGE FRENCH EMBASSY
Local media and observers reported on Saturday and Sunday that the people had vandalized several French installations in the country, including the French Embassy.

Urging calm and calling on people to desist from these acts, Traore assured national television on Sunday that "the situation is under control and that things are gradually returning to order."

He also ordered the reopening of the land and air borders that were shut during the putsch.

"The President of the Patriotic Movement for the Safeguard and Restoration (MPSR), informs national and international opinion that the air borders are open as of today, 02 October 2022," he said in a statement.

Traore is currently in charge of the day-to-day running of the state until he is sworn in, according to the junta.
From the second article:
Protesters attacked the French embassy in Burkina Faso’s capital after supporters of the country’s new coup leader accused La Belle France of giving refuge to the deposed interim president at a military camp.

A video shared on social media shows that the demonstrators attacked the embassy building and fire also broke out at the embassy.

Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, the now-former transitional president, "is said to have taken refuge in the French military base at Kamboinsin" and "he plans to launch a counter-offensive," the junta that is now led by Capt. Ibrahim Traore said on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
on Saturday.

The protesters blamed Damiba for failure to tackle insecurity and accused him of serving the interests of La Belle France, the former colonial power.

The French embassy has denied any involvement in the latest developments.

"The camp where the French forces are located has never welcomed Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, nor has our embassy," the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Late on Friday, a group of military officers headed by army Capt. Ibrahim Traore deposed Damiba, dissolved the transitional government and suspended the constitution.

The takeover in the West African state was the second in less than a year, where Damiba seized power after overthrowing former President Roch Kabore in January.

Arabia
Yemen gives final ultimatum as Saudi violations risk terminating truce
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The negotiating delegation of Sana’a government
...sometimes called Houthis...
on Saturday held the Saudi-led coalition countries responsible for bringing the truce understandings to a dead end.

In a statement , the national negotiating delegation stressed "the right of the Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
i people to defend themselves and their rights and to confront aggression and siege."

The negotiating delegation affirmed Sana’a had been keen to not miss any opportunity that could lead towards peace since the beginning of the truce, despite the delays involved.

The delegation’s statement pointed out that Sana’a exercised restraint towards the breaches of the other side to give more time for deliberations and international efforts and the efforts of some brotherly countries.

The statement confirmed that Sanaa had no special agenda other than the interest of the Yemeni people and their human and legal rights.

"Sana’a accepted the first and second extensions of the truce, hoping that there would be the slightest sense of responsibility or understanding on the part of the coalition countries and their mercenaries," the statement said.

The statement clarified that during the six months of the armistice’s life, Sana’a did not feel any seriousness to address the humanitarian file as an urgent priority. "The coalition countries, after having exhausted all their cards, have no choice but to target the livelihood of the Yemeni people, as it is the easiest way to bring the people to their knees."

The statement added that the coalition forces’ bet on the economic card and the continuation of the siege had become a clear bet after all their other aggressive bets had failed.

"The desire of the coalition countries is not so much peace as it is keeping them away from the repercussions of the war and direct targeting," the statement said.

The national delegation added: "Our demands were equality between Yemeni civil and military employees and retirees in the payment of salaries without discrimination between one province and another, and we wanted to achieve the right of employees to collect their salaries in all provinces from sovereign revenues, foremost of which is crude oil and gas."

Regarding the opening of roads in Taiz and elsewhere, the statement clarified that Sana’a formed a committee in the first period of the armistice, and the other party refused from the beginning to discuss the opening of roads in all provinces.

Afghans still waiting for decision on relatives year after State pledge
[IrishTimes] Afghan Admission Programme promised ’up to 500 places’ for at-risk family members but some applicants claim relatives already kidnapped by Taliban
...Arabic for students...
A year on from the Government’s promise to offer temporary residence to Afghans who have relatives in Ireland, no final decision has been issued and some applicants have claimed their family members have already been kidnapped by the Taliban.

In response to the Taliban takeover last August, the Department of Justice said Afghans already living in Ireland could apply for permission for up to four beneficiaries to join them in Ireland under the new Afghan Admission Programme (AAP). The programme promised to provide "up to 500 places" for at-risk family members.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
12 months after the programme was announced, and six months after the application deadline, no final decisions have been issued.

An Afghan man living in Ireland since 2019, who did not want to be named for fear of security issues for his family back home, applied for his parents to join him.

Speaking to The Irish Times, the man said he "worried a lot" for his mother and father, who he had not been able to see "in years".

"They’re older and retired so I’m trying to work a lot and save up to be able to support them if they get accepted to come here but it’s getting longer and longer. I don’t know if I will ever get to see them. We talk by phone but I worry for their safety all the time," he said.

’NO ACTION’
"Every week I open the Government website to see if there’s any news, and still no action has been taken. It feels like they’re ignoring the programme and the people who are impacted. It’s not a huge obligation, it’s only 500 people. There’s more flexibility and better treatment for Ukrainians, but every human life matters. It’s unfair."

The Department of Justice said a total of 528 applications had been received under the programme, which "continue to be assessed in a pragmatic and humanitarian manner with a view to issuing decisions as soon as possible".

Separately, since the beginning of August 2021 to July 2022, a total of 135 join-family visas have been approved for Afghan nationals and 77 family reunification applications have been approved.

A number of Afghan people have also been allocated places under the Irish Refugee Protection Programme (IRPP), which is under the remit of the Department of Children, Equality. Disability, Integration and Youth.

While these visa waivers were welcomed by human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
organizations, the Irish Refugee Council (IRC) told The Irish Times it "remains concerned" about the delays in issuing final decisions under the AAP.

The IRC assisted 70 people in applying for the programme, some of whom have progressed to "second stage" in recent weeks, but there has been "no confirmation of numbers or date of final decisions".

’TALIBAN REPRISALS’
"We welcome any progress in processing applications, but it is simply too slow," a spokeswoman said.

The programme was the only dedicated option for Afghans in Ireland, many of whom are long established here and some of whom are themselves Irish citizens, to apply for at-risk family members to join them.

Since last September, some family members of the IRC’s clients "have been kidnapped, or have simply disappeared, with some going ’underground’ or smuggled out of Afghanistan for fear of Taliban reprisals", including minor children and unaccompanied women.

The scheme was "already extremely limited in scope", with sponsors unable to apply for intact family units and if an applicant wished for a widowed family member to join them, death certificates were required.

"Owing to the collapse of the normal state infrastructure and risk of identification by the Taliban, it was very difficult to get all original documents," the IRC said.

Pre-screening was also required, with applicants asked to provide proof of ability to financially support and accommodate their family by themselves.

The Immigrant Council of Ireland was also "severely concerned at the delays", chief executive Brian Killoran said.

Jordanian triathlon event bars Israelis from competing over alleged security fears
[IsraelTimes] Israel’s deputy foreign minister says formal diplomatic rebuke unnecessary; athletes missed chance for points toward 2024 Olympic Games qualification

Other countries that have boycotted Israeli athletes have faced harsh measures from international sporting bodies.
Six Israeli triathletes were banned from competing in an international event in Jordan over the weekend, allegedly due to the need for funding extra security for the team, despite efforts by Israeli officials to see them included.

"We couldn’t compete because we are Israelis," triathlete Itamar Levanon told the Kan public broadcaster. "I thought we had moved on from past situations, but it seems not."

Deputy Foreign Minister Idan Roll told Army Radio on Sunday that the incident did not warrant a formal diplomatic rebuke against Jordan, and that the two countries were working together.

"We approached the ambassador. We will see how we take things from there. We are dealing with the matter," he said, but stressed there the incident does not mean that Jordan is no longer "a partner" with Israel.

The triathlon was held in the southern resort city of Aqaba and the Israeli athletes were eager to participate as it offered an opportunity to gain points toward qualifying for the 2024 Gay Paree Olympic Games.

Israeli authorities first became aware there was a problem several weeks ago when the athletes were delisted from the event.

The Israel Triathlon Association contacted the foreign and sports ministries, which took up the matter with World Triathlon, the international governing body for the sport, according to Hebrew media reports.

Though told they should continue to prepare for the event, the five men and one woman were finally informed Friday they could not participate.

Levanon nonetheless traveled to Jordan in the hope of being able to arrange entry with race officials, but was still told he could not enter the race.

Levanon told the Ynet website that organizers took him aside and explained there had been much discussion about the matter but he could not compete.

Israeli team coach Ori Zilberman told the outlet that Israeli officials had made a strong effort on behalf of the team, but that it was the Jordanians and the World Triathlon who are to blame.

He said the Israelis were told the Jordanians were not prepared to fund extra security protection for the Israeli team, and that this was why they were excluded.

"The ministries did not like what happened because it is a dangerous precedent — for other sports as well. A country like Jordan that says ’it is not appropriate for us to have the Israelis,'" Zilberman lamented.

Channel 12 cited a statement by Jordanian officials that organizers had threatened to cancel the entire event if Israelis participated, due to concerns of an attack. The Jordanian officials claimed the Israelis were not banned from participating but rather were asked not to attend.

Other countries that have boycotted Israeli athletes have faced harsh measures from international sporting bodies.

In November 2021, the World Men’s Team Squash Championship in Malaysia was canceled because the country would not let an Israeli team in.

IDF ‘logistically unprepared’ to continue West Bank arrest op, comptroller warns
[IsraelTimes] Investigation finds reservist troops missing essential equipment, given faulty guns, while Kfir training base has poor living conditions

The Israel Defense Forces is "logistically unprepared" to continue the major arrest operation in the West Bank begun earlier this year following a series of terror attacks, according to an "urgent" state comptroller report released Sunday.

The State Comptroller’s Office found that reservist troops serving at the Yakir military post, near the settlement of the same name in the central West Bank, were missing essential equipment, and conscripts being trained at the Kfir Brigade training base had poor living conditions.

State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman said he had conducted the snap check amid the IDF’ months-long arrest operation in the West Bank, launched after a series of attacks that killed 19 people between mid-March and the beginning of May.

The IDF has more than doubled its presence in the West Bank and along the security barrier, increasing the number of battalions in the area from around 13 to 26.

The report said that troops stationed at the Yakir base claimed they were missing equipment used in operational activities, notably certain weapons and vehicles. The report also noted the poor management of the base’s armory, with troops complaining about the quality of the guns they were supplied with, many of which jammed.

Another issue raised at the Yakir base was that it was currently housing two battalions instead of the usual one, leading to an extra load on the kitchen and adversely affecting the quality and quantity of food.

A separate issue raised by Golani troops currently stationed at the Yakir base was that they were becoming less ready for their designated role in northern Israel. By spending lengthy periods in the West Bank, the reservist troops were not spending enough time training for a potential war with the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group, officers and troops told Englman.

At the Kfir Brigade training base, the report noted the poor living conditions, which included lack of shade, broken air conditioning units, and no cold water drinking fountains in the sweltering Jordan Valley heat.

The Kfir Brigade predominantly serves in the West Bank, conducting arrest operations and protecting settlements.

"The IDF is not sufficiently prepared, logistically, for the continuation of the fighting in [the West Bank]," Englman said.

The Israel Defense Forces said in response to the report that the shortcomings do not harm troops’ competence and readiness, but added that some had already been dealt with after Englman’s visits in August while others were still being worked on.

The army’s vehicles at the Yakir base, for example, are heavily used, and therefore the IDF was working to expand its maintenance network, following the report.

The IDF was unaware of issues with the Yakir base armory, specifically regarding faulty weapons that Englman noted in the report.

The IDF said it does not maintain backup infrastructure for every scenario due to the high costs, but would adjust the time it takes to accept additional troops in cases of large-scale bolstering of forces.

Nasrallah calls Iranian woman's death a 'vague incident'
How would he know? He’s in the next country over, hiding under the bed in the third sub-basement in the hope that the Israelis never figure out where he is.

Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
's Iran-backed Hezbollah, Sayyed His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
...The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
, has said that the death of Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in Iranian police custody was a "vague incident" that was being exploited against Tehran.

A wave of street violence has rocked Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
since Amini, 22, died after her arrest by the morality police for allegedly failing to observe the Islamic republic's strict dress code for women.

Nasrallah said that her death, in circumstances he said remained unclear, was being exploited to incite the protests.

"The Iranian state is a target and so any incident is exploited... to incite against this state," Nasrallah said.

"This vague incident was exploited and people erupted into the streets," he said, referring to Amini's death.

The Hezbollah chief, a staunch Iran ally, said that the protests rocking the country do not reflect the true will of the Iranian people who he said are loyal to their leadership.

Iran "is stronger than ever and will not be affected," he said.

Protests were held across Iran for a 15th consecutive night on Friday, despite a bloody crackdown that the Oslo-based Iran Human Rights group says has claimed more than 80 lives.

It is the bloodiest unrest in Iran since a ruthless crackdown on demonstrations in November 2019 over a sudden hike in fuel prices that killed at least 304 people, according to Amnesia Amnesty International.

Iran has blamed outside forces for the nationwide protests.

Lapid says Lebanon gas deal to 'curb Hezbollah, bring regional stability'
[An Nahar] Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Sunday said that both Leb

and Israel have "accepted the American mediator's proposal for an agreement on the maritime border between the countries."

"We are conducting discussions on the final details, so it is not yet possible to congratulate on the finality, but as we demanded from day one, the proposal fully preserves Israel's political-security interests, as well as our economic interests," Lapid told his Cabinet.

He added that Israel has been trying to reach this deal for more than ten years.

"The security of the north will be strengthened, the Karish rig will operate and produce gas, the money will enter the state coffers and our energy independence is guaranteed. This is a deal that strengthens Israeli security and the Israeli economy," Lapid reassured.

He also said Israel would not oppose the development of "an additional Lebanese gas field" straddling the maritime border, as long as Israel receives "the share we deserve."

"Such a stockpile will weaken Lebanese dependence on Iran, curb Hezbollah and bring regional stability," he added.

Lapid also said that the U.S. mediator’s offer is now "under legal review."

"After the review is finished, we will bring the decision, together with Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Alternate Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, in coordination with the Legal Advisor to the Government, for discussion and approval," Lapid went on to say.

On Saturday, the proposal was also delivered to Lebanese leaders.

Lebanon and Israel have been officially at war since Israel's creation in 1948 and both countries claim some 860 square kilometers of the Mediterranean Sea.

Amos Hochstein, a senior adviser for energy security at the U.S. State Department who has been mediating between the two neighbors, last visited Beirut in September, where he expressed optimism after meeting with Lebanon's leaders.

Lebanon's parliament speaker, Nabi Berri, said in an interview with the London-based Asharq al-Awsat newspaper Saturday the proposal "in principle meets the Lebanese demands."

Lebanon hopes to unleash offshore oil and gas production as it grapples with the worst economic crisis in its modern history, plunging three-quarters of its population into poverty.
