Independent Bar Association Office Taken Over by Islamic Emirate
[ToloNews] Afghan Independent Bar Association (AIBA) members claimed Sunday that Islamic Emirate forces took over the AIBA office in Kabul and the government (Islamic Emirate) is aiming to use it as a government office functioning under the Ministry of Justice.

This comes as a great number of Afghan prosecutors and advocates--many of whom were women--left the country after the collapse of the former government in August.

"The forces of the Islamic Emirate entered the associations’ Kabul office, closed all the rooms and ordered all the members and staff to get out of the office," said Najla Rahel, a former deputy at AIBA.

"Our request is the independence of the association; if it is not considered, we will continue and launch civil protests," said Sayed Maarof Hashimi Jahed, head of AIBA's media office.

The members further added that AIBA, which was functioning independently in accordance with the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) laws, was established by a private fund and the government was only to monitor the association’s operations.

"The association is maintained by a private budget of defense attorneys, we want our rights, which is the independence of the association--our rights should not be ignored," said Hebatullah Naqed, a member of the AIBA.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the SWAT team had finally arrived...
the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute in a statement called for the sustained independence of the AIBA, saying the Islamic Emirate’s international recognition will face further challenges by taking such steps.

Officials at the Ministry of Justice said the Islamic Emirate has announced that AIBA will work under the Ministry of Justice. The MoJ spokeperson Mohammad Bashar said a caretaker has been chosen to manage the organization, but he did not provide a name.

"The AIBA is no longer independent, it is part of the Ministry of Justice and a caretaker introduced for the association," said Mohammad Bashar, front man for the Ministry of Justice.

The Afghan Independent Bar Association (AIBA) was formed in 2008 to work for promoting and protecting rule of law, social justice and for the implementation of Islamic instruction in Afghanistan. More than 6,000 defense attorneys from across the country became members of the AIBA and its provincial centers are open in almost all provinces of the country.

Doha: Islamic Emirate, EU Talk Aid, Safety for Departing Afghans
[ToloNews] The Islamic Emirate and EU delegates held a two-day meeting in Doha to discuss the situation in Afghanistan and particularly the way forward, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs front man Abdul Qahar Balkhi said.

The Islamic Emirate delegates led by acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and the EU delegates led by EU Special Representative for Afghanistan Tomas Niklasson discussed humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, health, security, and safe passage for people wishing to travel out of Afghanistan.

The EU delegation said they will continue providing support for the Afghan people and will have an office in Kabul for humanitarian efforts.

"The EU delegation expressed a willingness to continue assisting the Afghan people and informed (us) about (a) continued presence of an EU humanitarian office in Kabul providing humanitarian assistance," Balkhi said.

The Islamic Emirate delegation said that security will be maintained and it called for political considerations to be separated from humanitarian support, and it stressed the need to move forward through cooperation rather than pressure, Balkhi said.

At the final stage of the two-day dialogue, a trilateral meeting was held between the EU, Islamic Emirate and Qatar

i officials and all sides agreed to continue such meetings, Balkhi said.

Bank Accounts of Former Govt Officials Still in Country to Be Unlocked
[ToloNews] Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund issued a decree ordering the Central Bank to unblock the bank accounts of those former government officials who have not left the country.

In September, the Islamic Emirate froze the bank accounts of former government officials and now has decided to free the accounts of those who are still in the country.

Based on the decree, the Central Bank must also pay the salaries of former government officials who still work in government departments.

The decree also directs the Central Bank to unblock the accounts of the national assembly members, but it said they will not be paid a salary.

"The Central Bank is obliged to free the accounts of those former government officials who now work with the Islamic Emirate and pay their salaries. It is also ordered to release the accounts of those former government officials who are in Afghanistan," said Ahmadullah Wasiq, a member of the cultural commission of the Information and Culture Ministry.

Based on the decree, the properties of those former government officials who have left the country and have not handed over their responsibilities to the current government will remain frozen. However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
their relatives’ properties and accounts will be freed.

A number of political analysts welcomed the move, saying it will create conditions for trust-building between the former government officials and the Islamic Emirate.

"The Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
have understood that the confiscation of property of former government officials was not the right thing to do, and was a political decision," said Jawad Hussaini, a political analyst.

"This encourages the former government officials who left the country and whose properties are frozen in Afghanistan (to return to the country)," said Shahzada Massoud, a political analyst.

"The Islamic Emirate should take another step demanded by all the people of Afghanistan and that is to include all the ethnicities in the cabinet," said Abdul Rauf Tawana, a university lecturer.

Several days ago the Islamic Emirate in a similar move appointed a team under the auspices of the Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi to return the houses and personal vehicles of the former government officials.

Media freedom at risk as Taliban censors news reports in northern Afghanistan: Report
[KhaamaPress] The local authorities in northern Badakshan province have asked media outlets to publish their reports after a review and censorship, the Afghanistan journalists safety committee reported.

The Afghanistan journalists safety committee (AJSC) in its latest report claimed the Taliban

authorities in Badakhshan province have announced that no media or news agencies are permitted to publish against the interest of the Taliban administration.

The provincial Director of Information and Culture, Muezuddin Ahmadi has said that women are not allowed to appear in public for reporting purposes, while he has said female media workers can work in the office apart from the male staff, AJSC reported.

According to the source, the guideline issued by the Ministry of Promoting Virtue and Prohibiting Vice has also raised concerns amongst the media owners believing that both the financial crisis and further limiting media activities could lead to the closure of more media outlets.

This comes as, since the return of the Taliban into power, dozens of media outlets including news agencies, radio, and TV stations have collapsed.

Earlier reports suggested over 150 media organizations have been shut down due to the financial crisis.

Dozens of violent mostly peaceful cases against journalists have been reported since the fall of Afghanistan in the hands of the Taliban. Journalists have been killed, detained, and beaten.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
the Taliban authorities have announced to consider certain democratic values including freedom of speech in order for the world countries to recognize the new regime.

Leaked Message From Son of Morsi's Aide Deepens 'Brotherhood Crises' Abroad
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] A leaked message from the son of Essam El-Haddad, aide to former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, on the Brotherhood’s political future, deepened the crises of the organization abroad.

According to the researcher in the affairs of fundamentalist movements in Egypt, Amr Abdel Moneim, "[the leaked message] reveals the distress of the organization, which is facing a major deadlock within its internal structure."

He noted that the message will open disputes within the Istanbul Front led by Mahmoud Hussein, the former Secretary-General of the organization.

According to al-Arabiya channel website, Abdullah al-Haddad, son of Essam al-Haddad, Mohammed Morsi’s assistant for foreign affairs, demanded the release of his father imprisoned in Egypt, in exchange for a pledge to quit politics and stop engaging in any related activities.

In an article published on a local Egyptian website, Abdullah said that Morsi’s death "ended a painful chapter in Egypt’s modern history."

"His death became a clear statement that the new local and regional political landscape will not allow for a recurrence of any form of political activity like that which occurred between 2012 and 2013," he stated.

Abdullah added that his father belonged to a past political era that has ended, in reference to the Brotherhood rule.

In remarks to Asharq al-Awsat, Abdel Moneim said that al-Haddad family used many of such methods during the last period to pressure Egypt to release Essam and his son Jihad.

Essam al-Haddad was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the case of "espionage with foreign parties." He was a member of the Brotherhood’s Guidance Office, and was appointed as Morsi’s assistant for foreign affairs during the Brotherhood’s rule in 2013. He obtained British citizenship. As for his son, Jihad, he was responsible for foreign relations and the chief advisor to the organization’s al-Nahda project.

Regarding the "leaked letter", Abdel Moneim said that it was "an attempt to gain international sympathy with al-Haddad family."

He added that the message will raise disputes within the Istanbul front and will open room for many questions about the situation of the organization there, especially that Essam’s brother, Medhat, is one of the leaders of the Brotherhood in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

#1  The Muslim Brotherhood (Ikhwan al-Muslimun) was founded in Egypt and despite many vicissitudes its nexus was always found there. However, with the disastrous end to the Arab Spring, the Ikhwan found a home in Turkey where Erdogan not only seeks to restore the Caliphate and extend the boundaries of a Greater Turkey, but take charge of the Brotherhood activity world-wide. Al-Sisi has greatly reduced the power of the Ikhwan in Egypt, and Turkey (not Qatar or London), for the present, is its home.

SECRETARY BLINKEN: Prime Minister, welcome again. And I’m so pleased to have this opportunity to see you, to see the foreign minister, to see your delegation, especially after the very good, good day we had yesterday, which I think demonstrated again the very strong support on the part of the international community, the United Nations for Libya, for a strong, positive future as a unified, independent, stable country without any foreign interference. And I think the path that you’re on and that you’re leading the country on is – offers tremendous opportunity and possibility for the future. I know the Libyan people very much look forward to elections in December, and I know you’re working toward that, but we’re very pleased for this opportunity today to talk in a little bit more detail. So welcome. Very good to see you.
INTERIM PRIME MINISTER DABAIBA: Thank you, Secretary. We are very grateful for your presence with us yesterday.
Whether Blinken has bet the wrong horse depends on whether it's possible to imagine anything honest emerging from Tripoli.

Features of Houthi Sectarian Abuse, Displacement of Minorities
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] The Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
militia’s hostility towards other sects and religions in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
dates back to before the Iran-backed group staged a nationwide coup. It expelled all Jewish community members in Saada governorate a year and a half after declaring its rebellion against the central authority in mid-2004.
The contentious Houthi policy had spread to affect the Salafist movement, whereby Houthis targeted their education centers in the Dammaj area and forcibly displaced faith group members in a campaign reminiscent of the imam’s rule in Yemen.

Houthis later expelled the rest of the followers of the Jewish religion, the followers of the Baha’i religion and Christianity, to begin the stage of doctrinal change in Yemen through altering school curricula, changing mosques and overtaking public media.

By the end of 2020, the Houthi militia had completed the expulsion of all adherents of the Jewish religion from Yemen, a religion that had existed in the country for millennia.

Reports have said that the very last Jews in Yemen were forced to flee the country in exchange for the release of Levi Salem Marhabi, a Jewish man who has been imprisoned by the Houthis since 2016. But Marhabi remains imprisoned despite a Houthi court exonerating him.

It was also confirmed that a group of Yemeni Christians, including Reverend Mushir al-Khalidi, had been deported after several months of detention.

Moreover, holy mans from the Baha’i religion, which had been practiced in Yemen since the 1940s, were also deported.

According to a report released by ACAPS, from 2015, Houthis have been gradually enforcing policies linked to suppressing the religious practices of some Islamic sects. Reports on such incidences increased between July—September 2021.

The Houthis are repressing the population in two different ways:

1) imposing generic religious norms including taxes and celebrations.

2) suppressing non-Zaydi practice (such as the weddings, Salafi centers, and Tarawih prayer which is conducted during Ramadan).

There’s a mixture of ideological and pragmatic intentions behind this such as:

- Increasing revenue by collecting Zakat and taxing religious celebrations.

- Encouraging people to join the frontlines through sermons and other religious messaging, thereby increasing the number of fighters

- Emphasizing that ’true believers’ are those from the Zaydi school of thought (implying that those unaffiliated are infidels) to increase supporters for Zaydi Islam and hence the Houthis.

There are deliberate attempts to create division among people from different Islamic sects. Incidents related to religion reported between July—September built on previous incidents related to tax collection, music suppression, the closure of Salafi mosques, the replacement of Sunni imams who didn’t reinforce Houthi policies, and making changes on the school curriculum, especially with regard to history and Islamic and social studies.

Sanaa residents told Asharq al-Awsat that Houthis replaced mosques' imams who refused to abide by the group's policies. They also altered some of the Koran verses in their curriculum to teach and encourage violence instead of coexistence.

Europe
Half of French Believe in Demographic Shift ‘Great Replacement' Theory
[Breitbart] A survey released this week has revealed that half of the French public believe in the “Great Replacement” theory and that elites in politics and business are attempting to replace the native population of France.

The Ifop survey, which asked a number of questions regarding immigration and topics such as Islamisation, found that 50 per cent of the French believe in the Great Replacement, a theory coined by French writer Renaud Camus to describe the demographic replacement of native peoples by mass migration.

Nearly seven in ten of the respondents to the survey, or 69 per cent, stated they believed there were “too many” immigrants in France, while 62 per cent said that immigration was the primary reason for insecurity issues in the country, French news magazine L’Obs reports.

In the Ifop survey, respondents were also asked about French identity and Islam, with 70 per cent stating that France should remain a Christian country, while 68 per cent said that Islam was a threat to French identity.

Crime, particularly that involving underage illegal immigrants, has become a major problem in certain parts of France and the surge in minor migrant criminality was highlighted earlier this year by French Senator Henri Leroy.

“Just look at the panorama of delinquency. There is a worrying increase which seems exponential. The number of minor migrants was 30,000 in 2015 and 60,000 in 2018, and the associated problems are increasing at the same rate,” Leroy said in May.

“In Bordeaux, 40 per cent of delinquency is attributable to them, and the proportion was 24 per cent two years ago. The problem grows and threatens to infiltrate all sections of delinquency, trafficking, banditry… We need to stop this bleeding,” he added.

The survey was conducted by Ifop for the anti-hate groups the International League against Racism and Anti-Semitism (LICRA) and the magazine Le Droit de Vivre in response to the dramatic rise of the conservative writer and presidential hopeful Eric Zemmour in polling for next year’s French presidential elections.

Zemmour has been clear in his stance against mass migration and has referenced the Great Replacement theory in the past.

He has also been firmly opposed to the Islamisation of France and was placed under investigation over remarks he had made at a conference in 2019 when he stated: “In France, as in all Europe, all our problems are aggravated by immigration — schools, housing, unemployment, social deficits, public order, prisons — but all our problems are also aggravated by Islam. It’s double punishment.”

Earlier this month, a hate crime trial for Zemmour began over comments he had made on French television regarding minor migrants last year.

“They have nothing to do here, they are thieves, they are murderers, they are rapists, that’s all they are, they must be sent back and they must not even come,” Zemmour said while appearing on the television programme Face à l’info on broadcaster CNews.

Spain's Canary Islands draw more migrants despite dangers
Bar graph and map can be seen at the link.
[DW] A lack of prospects exacerbated by the pandemic has been leading tens of thousands of Africans to make the dangerous crossing to Spain's Canary Islands. It remains unclear how many have died in the attempt.

ese army managed to rescue all 82 migrants colonists on board a boat that had capsized earlier this month. Good news of this kind is a rare commodity along the stretch of the Atlantic off the west coast of Africa.

Fifth Column
Woke students want Kyle Rittenhouse kicked out of ASU
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] Following the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse earlier this month, a student organization at Arizona State University is calling upon campus leadership to expel the acquitted teen, claiming he is a "racist" and "blood-thirsty murderer."

Political student organization MECHA de ASU
... they used to write it MEChA for Movimiento Estudiantil Chicana/o de Aztlan, but accuracy clearly is no longer important in these degenerate times. Yet another race-based Communist organization hoping for the success of the Black Panthers. The first chapter formed at a conference in Santa Barbara in 1967, by 2012 there were more than 500 including both college and high school chapters...
posted a list of demands to their Instagram on Friday, calling for campus leadership to "withdraw" Rittenhouse from the university, to issue a statement against "white supremacy
...the pernicious doctrine that laws were intended to be obeyed, that society works better when people don't pour shreiking from their places of worship every Friday for a weekend of rioting over insults real or imagined; and that cannibalism, beastiality, incest, murder, theft, rape, and similar activities are bad. A Dead White European (which invalidates his opinion) philosopher once opined that societies thrive when a person's word can be relied upon, and that a society which puts individual happiness first will invariably fail. Strangely enough, other successful societies, such as China, Japan, Korea, and those kinds of places could also be lumped with white supremacist societies, since they push the same values...
," and to defund their campus police in order to redirect funding to the multicultural center.

The organization's four demands are as follows: "Withdraw Kyle Rittenhouse from ASU," "Release a statement against white supremacy and racist murderer Kyle Rittenhouse," "Reaffirm support for the multicultural center on campus as a space safe from white supremacy," and "Redirect funding from ASU PD to support the multicultural center and establishment of a CAARE Center on campus."

MECHA de ASU is a Chicano-centered organization for students on ASU's campus. According to the group's GoFundMe page set up for general funding for the student organization, "Our work is toward empowering our community in order to liberate colonized people. Our values are rooted in anti-colonialism, anti-imperialism, anti-capitalism, anti-heteropatriarchy, antiracism."

"Even with a not-guilt verdict from a flawed 'justice' system — Kyle Rittenhouse is still guilty to his victims and the families of those victims," the group continued in its demands post on Instagram. "Join us to demand from ASU that these demands be met to protect students from a violent mostly peaceful, blood-thirsty murderer."

The organization is holding a rally on campus on Dec. 1 regarding these demands.

A. ZERO all three of the men he shot in self-defense during violent riots in Kenosha on Aug. 25 last year were WHITE Career Criminals who attacked him.

#11  #10 prefer murderous pedophiles be allowed to kill at will rather than anyone defend themselves.

They're following the lead of our ped0phile and ped0-pushing elites:

- The P[ed0phile]OTUS who sniffs and gropes little girls and reportedly showered with his fu-ked-up-for-life 12 year-old daughter

- PedOTUS's crack addict ped0phile son, who hit upon his 14 year-old niece (while screwing her mom, his dead brother's widow)

- Epstein the ped0 and his pals...

- ...Clinton (mari) the intern-banger and rapist who banked a 9-figure fortune selling access to his wife's presumed future reign as PedOTUS

- ...Gates the deci-billionaire serial harasser and likely ped0

- and an entire party of pervert-pushers who criminalize and seek to imprison parents when they insist on protecting their kids from filthy deranged ped0-manuals inserted into the school curriculum

#16  Hard to avoid the conclusion that many (most) of these fooks have gone (are) insane. Here's the brilliant classicist & writer Michael Anton's masterful summary:

"Our regime cannot, at present, unload a cargo ship, stock a store shelf, run a clean election, handle parental complaints at a school board meeting, pass a budget bill, treat a cold variant, keep order in the streets, defeat a third world country, or even evacuate said country cleanly.

"And that’s to say nothing of all the things it should be doing, that all non-joke countries do, that it refuses to do. If our ruling class has a plan, it would seem to be to destroy the society and institutions from which they, at present, are the largest—one is tempted to say only—beneficiaries.

"Do they think they can benefit more from the wreckage? Or are they driven by hatreds that blind them to self-interest? Perhaps they’re simply insane?"

Al-Khazali calls on al-Sistani to intervene
[SHAFAQ] The Secretary-General of Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq movement, the villainous-looking Qais al-Khazali
......sinister-looking Iranian stooge, Secretary General of Persian proxy militia Asaib Ahl al-Haq, wannabe Nasrallah......
, called on the supreme Shiite authority, Ali al-Sistani, to intervene and solve the "dangerous" political situation in Iraq.

Al-Khazali said in his speech, "the attack that targeted the prime minister's house is serious and cannot be tolerated at all, and trying to accuse the resistance factions of it is nothing but playing with fire and an attempt to drag the country into a major crisis."

He added, "Al-Kadhimi was not present at his house when the alleged targeting was announced," noting, "Al-Kadhimi did not accept the involvement of resistance factions in the investigation, which makes things more suspicious."

"This is a message to the committee charged with investigating the alleged attack on al-Kadhimi's house... You must provide tangible, real evidence, not speculations, nor media and Facebook gossip, because the situation is intolerable."

Al-Hakeem requests a meeting with al-Sistani
[SHAFAQ] The leader of the al-Hekmah (Wisdom) movement, Ammar al-Hakeem, has requested an "urgent meeting" with the Supreme Shiite authority, Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, to set out a roadmap that leads the country past the current impasse, a source in the Coordination Framework revealed on Sunday. The source told Shafaq News Agency that al-Sistani's bureau promised to respond to al-Hakeem's request soon.

"The meeting is sought to be confidential or personal to give the Marja'iyah [the top Shiite Authority in the country] first-hand information about the initiative launched by the leader of al-Hekmah movement," the source continued, "the Marja'iyah can make the appropriate amendments to achieve consensus in the Shiite house."

"Many political forces had asked for meetings with the Marja'iyah, but their requests were denied," the source said, "the forces of the Cooperation Framework are aware of al-Hakim's request, and they hope it resolves the crisis in the country."

Earlier today, the Secretary-General of Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq movement, Qais Khazali, called on the supreme Shiite authority, Ali al-Sistani, to intervene and solve the "dangerous" political situation in Iraq.

Kurds in AANES protest recruitment of teenage girls for combat
[SHAFAQ] Kurdish protesters in northeastern Syria demonstrated outside UN offices on Sunday against what they say is the continued recruitment of teenage girls for combat, an AFP correspondent reported.

Last Sunday, three families accused the "revolutionary youth" of kidnapping their underage girls in Amuda and transporting them to training camps.

"The revolutionary youth kidnapped my daughter (Avin, 15 years old) a week ago, along with two of her schoolmates," Belkis Hussein told Shafaq News agency.

Shafaq News sources indicate that since the beginning of the current year, the Revolutionary Youth have recruited more than 100 children in AANES.

The Revolutionary Youth is affiliated with the Autonomous Administration, and recruit men and women, most of whom are minors, and are often accused of acts related to child abuse.

The Kurdish National Council has repeatedly accused this group of being behind burning and assaulting its headquarters in the region.

Al-Khazali: Iraq is going through a ''political blockage''
[SHAFAQ] The Secretary-General of Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq movement, the villainous-looking Qais al-Khazali
......sinister-looking Iranian stooge, Secretary General of Persian proxy militia Asaib Ahl al-Haq, wannabe Nasrallah......

al-Khazali said in a televised speech, "the political parties that participated in the elections and the European Union

mission were suspicious about the election results," noting, "many participants in the electoral process are certain that the results are tampered with."

"Saying that the preliminary election results were identical to the manual recounting results is 100% funny", he pointed, adding, "6,200 ballot boxes were not closed on time."

Al-Khazali concluded, "Ballot boxes that were excluded must be manually recounted."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iranian Brig.-Gen. urges destruction of Israel prior to nuke talks
[JP] The spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran’s armed forces, Brig.-Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi, on Saturday urged the total elimination of the Jewish state during an interview with an Iranian regime-controlled media outlet.

"We will not back off from the annihilation of Israel, even one millimeter. We want to destroy Zionism in the world,” Shekarchi told the Iranian Students News Agency.

Shekarchi’s genocidal antisemitic remarks come just days before the nuclear talks are set to restart in Vienna Monday on curbing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s illicit nuclear program. The United States and other world powers are seeking to provide Tehran with economic sanctions relief in exchange for temporary restrictions on its atomic program. Israel and other countries believe Iran's regime seeks to build a nuclear weapons device.

The Iranian general also blasted Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates for normalizing diplomatic relations with Israel, terming the diplomacy “intolerable” for Iran’s clerical regime. "Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE and other countries considered as Muslims, for us they part of the Zionist regime and this is very important," said Shekarchi.

U.S. Navy Rescues Iran Seamen Adrift in Gulf for 8 Days
[An Nahar] The U.S. Navy has rescued two Iranian seamen who had been adrift for eight days on a fishing boat in Gulf waters, a statement said on Sunday. The men were in "good health and spirits" despite their ordeal, the navy said.

"A U.S. Navy vessel rescued two Iranian mariners (on Saturday) from a fishing vessel after it was adrift for eight days in the Gulf of Oman," the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, or NAVCENT, said.

Navy fat merchantman Charles Drew arrived at the scene with food, water and medical care six hours after a distress call from the mariners, the statement said.

The two men were transported to an Omani coastguard vessel near the capital Muscat. "The mariners were in good health and spirits at the time of the transfer," it added.

"We appreciate the government of Oman for its assistance and support in helping us return the mariners home," NAVCENT commander Vice Admiral Brad Cooper said in the statement.
Al Ahram adds:

Qaouq: Hizbullah Backing Efforts to Resolve Govt. Crisis. Really.
[An Nahar] Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
central council member Sheikh Nabil Qaouq on Sunday stressed that his party is supporting efforts aimed at resolving the governmental crisis and resuming Cabinet sessions."Addressing the governmental crisis represents a necessary gateway for alleviating the suffering of the Lebanese and curbing collapse in the various fields," Qaouq said.

"Hizbullah is not standing idly by as to addressing the governmental crisis, and it is rather supportive and keen on the success of the efforts," the Hizbullah official added.

The efforts "have not stopped to resolve the only obstacle, whose solution is not impossible," Qaouq went on to say, apparently referring to the standoff over Beirut port blast lead investigative judge Tarek Bitar.

He added: "The suffering of the Lebanese is very big, the living circumstances are difficult, and our major priority is serving the people and easing their plight. Hizbullah is helping and offering everything in its capacity to this end."

Al-Rahi Hails Cassation Court's Ruling on Port Investigation
[An Nahar] Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi on Sunday lauded the latest decision by the Court of Cassation on the flurry of lawsuits and legal motions that had paralyzed the probe into the catastrophic Beirut port blast."The unanimous decision of the general commission of the Court of Cassation confirmed the rightfulness of the judicial investigation, restoring the Lebanese judiciary’s seriousness, prestige and unity, and reviving hope that the probe into the port crime can be continued away from politicization, sectarianization and interests," al-Rahi added in a sermon.

The Court of Cassation on Thursday threw out two lawsuits submitted by ex-premier Hassan Diab and ex-interior minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq accusing Bitar of summoning them illegally. It ruled there was no evidence suggesting Bitar had committed any errors.

The same court also overturned two similar lawsuits filed by politicians Ali Hassan Khalil and Ghazi Zoaiter. Also on Thursday, the Criminal Court of Cassation rejected a lawsuit filed by ex-public works minister Youssef Fenianos that had demanded Bitar's removal from the blast probe.

The court also said that it is the only authority eligible to look into recusal requests against Bitar, which prevents the accused ex-officials from filing motions with the Court of Appeals.

Turning to the suspension of Cabinet sessions, the patriarch lashed out at the "obstructors," stressing that they have no right to "prevent Cabinet from convening."

He wondered whether they are awaiting "further collapse, Lebanese lira downfall, hunger, poverty, emigration and deterioration of Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years. It produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. That's three statements. Only the first is subjective....
’s ties with the Gulf countries."

"It is unacceptable for Cabinet to remain absent or the hostage of this or that party while it is the authority concerned with rescuing Lebanon," al-Rahi added.
