Billionaire GOP Mega-Donor Funds National Guard Mission to US-Mexico Border
[Mil.com] The South Dakota National Guard is deploying on mission to the U.S. southern border. And the operation is being funded by a billionaire, not the government, Military.com has learned.

Soldiers will serve on state active-duty orders, meaning that traditionally the state would cover the cost of the mission. However, in this case the tab is being picked up by the private Tennessee-based Willis and Reba Johnson's Foundation.

"The border is a national security crisis that requires the kind of sustained response only the National Guard can provide," South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a Republican, said in a statement Tuesday.

Roughly 50 guardsmen will deploy on the mission, according to a South Dakota Guard spokesman. However, the mission is still in its early planning stages. It’s unclear where the troops will deploy on the border, which unit will be sent or what the mission will be.

The National Guard declined to comment for this story or answer questions about the practice of allowing private donors to fund missions. A query to the Pentagon about the mission did not receive a response.

Willis Johnson is the founder of Copart, an online vehicle auction service, and has amassed a $2.2 billion fortune, according to Forbes. He resigned as CEO of Copart in 2010, according to reporting from the Nashville Post.

He is a Republican mega-donor, donating at least $1.5 million to conservative causes, including $50,000 to the "Trump Victory" political action committee, according to reporting from Bloomberg.

Billionaire Funds South Dakota National Guard Deployment To U.S-Mexico Border
[ZeroHedge] South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem tweeted Monday that she's sending 50 of her state's National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas and will be paid for by a private donation, according to Axios.

Noem said, "I'm officially announcing up to 50 National Guard troops to Texas to help secure our border." She said President Biden has forgotten that a secured border is critical to maintaining a sovereign nation. "We shouldn't be making our own communities vulnerable by sending police to fix Biden's border crisis."

The funding for the troop deployment is coming from a "Tennessee billionaire and high-dollar Republicans," Axios said.

Noem spokesperson Ian Fury told Axios the funds are coming from a foundation run by billionaire Willis Johnson.
Never heard of him. How many billionaires are running around these days, anyway?
There was no word on the size of the donation or the exact mission the troops would be conducting.

Johnson has spent millions of dollars to bankroll several political campaigns, including former President Trump's reelection campaign.
From Wikipedia:
Willis J. Johnson (born 1947) is an American billionaire businessman.[2] He is the founder and former chief executive of Copart, a vehicle salvage and auction company, founded in 1982.

Johnson is politically conservative and supports the Republican Party. Since 2001, he has contributed at least $1.5 million to different conservative causes.
About this donation, Mr. Johnson said:
“You’ve got illegals coming in and I just think they ought to follow the rules of America. South Dakota is a small state. They want to help America, I want to help them."
Meanwhile down in Texas, according to PJ Media:
Gov. Greg Abbott has just reached Grand Master level in epic trolling, while also enacting a popular policy that will do some good for his state.

#3  Couple of points. The confusedly named "National Guard" belongs to the states. Also, as opposed to the actual Reserves, the Guard components have the actual line units. If the feds need to call up a rifle battalion, it's a Guard unit, not a reserve unit.
See also Guard and "OMLT"
So the state governors control the Guard, with its line units. Just sayin'....
Interesting point about funding. Money's fungible, anyway.

#4  Texas Governor Greg Abbott is using stimulus money to build a wall, which is infuriating liberals

However, they have not problem with Ms Lightfoot redirecting funds. It's all about who's ox is getting gored.

And as to the Guard, it is the Guard Bureau (Deep State Pentagon) that insists that governors need infantry, artillery, and armor units. I suspect the governors would prefer military police, engineers, transportation and medical for natural disasters.

#5  /\ Army Force Development trivia:

In the 1990's I believe it was, the Army Reserve and Guard Bureau orchestrated a swap or trade as it were. The Army Reserve relinquished the majority of their combat arms units (Infantry, Armor, Artillery) along with Aviation and opted for Combat Service Support or CSS (Engineers, Transportation, Medical, Military Intelligence, Quartermaster, etc).

The arrangement was presided over by the Active Army who, at the time, was looking to downsize and find a place to put infrequently needed CSS elements and equipment. There were numerous political and financial aspects concerning the swap as well.
Posted by: Besoeker || 07/01/2021 5:56 Comments || Top||

#6  /\ There were practical and political elements. The mass mobilization for WW2 showed that an "all arms" NG/Reserve Division required about 12 months to be deployable. A new "draftee" Division would take 16-18 months if provided a training cadre.

Next, combat can have catastrophic losses to small units. The Army was aware of the political fallout of having a "Bedford Boys" incident where a NG unit from one particular town was massacred. Moving Reserve/NG units to support roles made this less likely.

#7  /\ Yes, Mag. I remember reading that thoughtful justification.

Howsomuch ever, five 1/2 months training on the 60's, it was 'wheels up' for Vietnam. After losing 70,000 men soldiers, sailors, USAF, and Marines in Vietnam, I'm not certain the Army cared much about losses.

Some truth found in nearly everything I suppose.

#8  I'm not certain the Army cared much about losses.

Numbers weren't big enough for the length of the engagement.

#10  Federal service for Guardsmen comes through either Title 10 or Title 32 active duty status and is entirely funded by the federal government. Since all Guard personnel have essentially taken two Oaths of Enlistment/Commisioning, they are also at the call of the Governor in a state active duty (SAD) status, the details and scope of which are determined by each state. If SD sends troops in a SAD status, the US government has no say in the matter and depending on state laws, it might be funded by any number of means.

Florida Truckers Show Support For Daytona Beach Officer Allegedly Shot By Man Linked To Black Militia
[Fox News] Officer Jason Raynor remains in critical condition a week after being shot in head

Truckers gathered outside a Florida hospital on Tuesday evening to show their support for a Daytona Beach Police officer still recovering, a week after being shot in the head by a man who was eventually apprehended at a Black nationalist paramilitary encampment in Georgia.

The so-called community vigil involved tow truckers from across central Florida and took place outside the Halifax Health Medical Center, where 26-year-old officer Jason Raynor remains hospitalized in critical condition.

"We just need the family to know that we are here. The community backs them," Amanda Balboa, of Arrow Service and Towing, told WESH during the vigil. "We’ve got to let them know we’re here for them."

A large American flag was hoisted over an entryway, as a crowd of people in the parking lot bowed their heads in prayer for Raynor. They later hopped into their rigs to do a lap around the hospital, wailing on their horns and cheering to let the officer inside feel their presence.

Raynor's family watched the vigil below from a hospital window, the police chaplain said. Organizers also collected donations for the family. Speaking at the event, the chaplain quoted scripture, saying, "What the devil meant for evil, God used for good."

Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young told reporters Raynor was "fighting for his life" immediately following the June 23 shooting. His condition has since improved enough to endure testing at the hospital, Young said Monday, according to WKMG, but the officer has a long road to recovery.

Raynor was shot just before 9 p.m. as he approached a vehicle while responding to a report of a "suspicious incident." Bodycam footage shows he asked the driver if he lived in the area when a brief struggle ensued. He was shot seconds later.

The fact that the P.O.S. called Othal Wallace knew where to flee to and was greeted with open arms says and means more than many see.

Think about it.... a BLOM member shoots a LEO and instantly knows where to flee and how to get to an BLOM ARMED Militant Para-Military sanctuary providing group in another state.

A group whose agenda happens to basically be RIOT, LOOTING, HARM and/or KILL Whitey and ANY Law Enforcement Officer.

ODDLY, However, the ARMED Militant Para-Military Sanctuary was willing to given him up w/o a fight????

The media has made it abundantly clear ... The SD's, pelosi, kh and b-boy are screaming for a Domestic Terrorism Act Bill the last 4 months.

So why haven't States & FED' broken up these ARMED ANTI-USA Para-military encampments? After all their agenda basically reads as a socialist goal to violate State/Federal laws, the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights?

Is it because the Domestic Terrorism Bill is geared more to weeding out PRO-USA individuals that are standing in the way of the Liberal, Socialist-Democrats greater USSA agenda?

Afghanistan
Italian Forces Hand Over Military Camp in Herat to ANDSF. Last German Troops Leave Afghanistan; Most European Troops Now Gone
[ToloNews] After two decades of deployment, Italian forces on Wednesday handed over control of a military camp in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
to Afghan forces.

Afghan military officials said Italian forces have pulled out their military equipment as well as destroyed some.

In recent weeks, loud explosions have been heard from the camp and military officials said the Italian forces destroyed large numbers of armored vehicles and heavy weapons before evacuating.

"In terms of military equipment, nothing was left for us from the Italians," said Major General Sayed Emal Pacha, the commander of an Afghan air force division.

"We pledge that our security and defense forces across Afghanistan are ready to defend our country and the people in the western zone and in Herat," said Abdul Saboor Qane, governor of Herat.

"All aviation services are being carried out by the professional cadres of Khawja Abdullah Ansari airport. There have been no problems at all at the airport following the withdrawal of foreign forces and flights are being carried out normally and regularly," said Abdul Shaheer Salehi, the director of Herat airport.

With the withdrawal of Italian forces from Herat, the control of Herat’s airport was also handed over to the Afghan government.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog backed into the corner and showed its teeth. And what big teeth they were!...
Germany also completed the withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan.

Germany’s last troops left Afghanistan on Tuesday after nearly 20 years of deployment in the country, said German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.

The German defense minister said in a tweet that the last Bundeswehr soldiers "left Afghanistan safely" on Tuesday evening.

She thanked the more than 150,000 troops who have served there since 2001 and said that "they can be proud of this mission."

Most European troops exit Afghanistan quietly after 20 years

[AlAhram] NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
declined to give an update Wednesday on how many nations still have troops in its Resolute Support mission

Most European troops have already pulled out of Afghanistan, quietly withdrawing months before the U.S.-led mission was officially expected to end _ part of an anticlimactic close to the ``forever war'' that risks leaving the country on the brink of civil war.

Germany and Italia declared their missions in Afghanistan over on Wednesday and Poland's last troops returned home, bringing their deployments to a low-key end nearly 20 years after the first Western soldiers were deployed there.

Announcements from several countries analyzed by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named show that a majority of European troops has now left with little ceremony _ a stark contrast to the dramatic and public show of force and unity when NATO allies lined up to back the U.S. invasion to rid the country of al-Qaeda after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

In the ensuing decades, the war went from one mission to another. Former U.S. President George W. Bush's administration shied away from nation-building and the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
advocated a light footprint. But with the passing years, NATO and U.S. troops took on greater roles developing Afghanistan's National Security and Defense Forces and training police. At the war's peak, the U.S. and NATO military numbers surpassed 150,000.

NATO agreed in April to withdraw its roughly 7,000 non-American forces from Afghanistan to match U.S. President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Sleazy Dem mschine politician, paterfamilias of the Biden Crime Family...
's decision to pull all American troops from the country, starting May 1.

Biden set a Sept. 11 deadline for the withdrawal of U.S. troops. But more recently, American officials have said that pullout would most likely be completed by July 4 _ and many allies have moved to wrap up their own presence by then as well.

NATO declined to give an update Wednesday on how many nations still have troops in its Resolute Support mission. But an analysis of 19 governments' own announcements shows that more than 4,800 of the non-American forces have left.

The U.S. has refused to give troop figures, but when Biden announced the final pullout between 2,500 and 3,500 troops were deployed. The U.S. has also refused to give a clear date for their final withdrawal.

Germany publicly announced the end of its nearly 20-year deployment in a statement and a series of tweets from the defense minister late Tuesday evening, shortly after the last plane carrying its troops had left Afghan airspace.

Three transport aircraft landed at the Wunstorf air base in northern Germany on Wednesday afternoon. The troops, wearing masks, lined up on the tarmac for a brief ceremony, but the military dispensed with a bigger reception because of the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic.

``We have worked long and hard to stand here today,'' said Brig. Gen. Ansgar Meyer, the last commander of the German contingent. ``As your commander, I can say for you: `Mission accomplished.' You have fulfilled your task.''

But the top American general in Afghanistan gave a sobering assessment Tuesday, warning about the recent rapid loss of districts to the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
and cautioning that the country could descend into civil war.

The German pullout came amid a spate of withdrawals by European nations. Poland's last departing troops were greeted Wednesday by Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak. Some 33,000 Polish troops have served in Afghanistan over the past 20 years.

The last Italian troops from Italia's base in Herat arrived at the military airport in Pisa late Tuesday. Italia officially declared its mission in Afghanistan over in a statement Wednesday, with Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini paying tribute to the 53 Italians who died, and 723 who were maimed over the past two decades.

Going forward, Guerini said Italia's commitment to Afghanistan would remain strong but in other forms, ``beginning with the strengthening of development cooperation and support for Afghan institutions.''

Georgia's last troops returned home on Monday, while Romania brought home its remaining 140 troops on Saturday, when Norway also pulled out. Troops from Denmark, Estonia and the Netherlands also returned home last week. Spain withdrew its last troops on May 13, Sweden on May 25, and Belgium on June 14. The small contingents deployed by Portugal, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Finland, Albania, North Macedonia and Luxembourg have all left as well.

The pullout is nearing its end as security in Afghanistan worsens. Since May 1, when the withdrawal began, the Taliban have overrun district after district, including key ones along major transportation routes. Many have fallen after Afghan soldiers surrendered, often being convinced to leave their post by elders. But elsewhere there have been bitter military battles, with Afghan troops sometimes losing when their positions could not be resupplied.

The U.S. military commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Austen S. Miller, meanwhile, expressed concern about the resurrection of militias, which were deployed to help the beleaguered national security forces but have a brutal reputation for widespread killing.

``A civil war is certainly a path that can be visualized if this continues on the trajectory it's on right now, that should be of concern to the world,'' he said.

At a ceremony last week to mark the official end of the Dutch deployment, Dutch Defense Minister Ank Bijleveld-Schouten underscored the uncertain outlook.

``We see reports of the rise of the Taliban, growing violence, also in areas where we were stationed,'' she said. ``A lot has been achieved but we must be realistic: The results are not irreversible.''

Border dispute poses risk of war between Sudan, Ethiopia: U.S diplomat
[Sudan Tribune] U.S. senior diplomat Tuesday said that the border dispute between Sudan and Æthiopia poses a risk of conflict.

Robert Godec, Robert Godec, Acting Assistant Secretary of State Bureau of African Affairs, made his statement in a hearing before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on the conflict in the Tigray region of Æthiopia.

"The al-Fashaga border dispute poses a risk of conflict in the area. It is a deep dispute, and it is a considerable concern for the U.S.," Godec told the Congress members.

He further said his administration discussed the issue with Sudanese and Æthiopian officials and urged them to find a negotiated solution.

"But it is a risk," he stressed.

Last May, U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Jeffrey Feltman was in Khartoum for talks with Sudanese officials over the border dispute and the Grand Æthiopian Renaissance Dam’s crisis.

Speaking about the ongoing conflict in northern Æthiopia, the State Department was assessing the violations of human rights

He further pointed to the continued presence of Eritrea

In a separate statement about the involvement of the Eritrean army in the conflict, he mentioned the deployment of Eritrean soldiers near the disputed area.

"Eritrean troops are present in al-Fashaga area," he added.

Last January, Sudanese military sources spokes to the Sudan Tribune about the deployment of Eritrean soldiers in the Æthiopia side of the border with Sudan.

In a visit to Khartoum on 4 May, President Isaias Afwerki sought to reassure the Sudanese officials and agreed with them to develop bilateral relations.

International-UN-NGOs
Cross-Border Aid to Syria Will End, Says Russian Ambassador to U.N.
[AnNahar] U.N. authorization of cross-border humanitarian aid to Syria without Damascus's agreement will stop, the Russian ambassador to the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
said Wednesday, without giving a timeframe.

"It is now a day-to-day operation and eventually it will be closed," Vassily Nebenzia told news hounds when asked if a consensus could be found in the Security Council to extend the agreement that expires on July 10.

Asked if Russia deemed it unnecessary to re-authorize the only access -- at Bab al-Hawa on the border between Syria and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
-- he said: "I will not give you any definitive answer at this time. We are continuing consulting."

Nebenzia said aid from Damascus should increase as the crossings were reduced last year from four to one.

He added that a humanitarian convoy bound for the opposition-held Idlib enclave had been authorized in April 2020 by Damascus but never reached its destination due to obstruction by those who control the region.

UN sources confirmed the information to AFP.

The Bab al-Hawa crossing will require a UN vote to stay open, but Russia, which is allied with Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
, may use its veto power to block it.

Ireland and Norway, non-permanent members of the Security Council, presented a draft resolution Friday that seeks to keep the crossing open for one year and to reopen a second crossing point, al-Yarubiyah, which allows supplies to reach Syria's northeast from Iraq.

Humanitarian organizations have been pleading for months for an extension of the U.N. authorization.

"In such a politicized environment, as currently experienced in Syria, the humanitarian community should be given the space, the necessary access and the means to build sustainable and continuous supply chains," Laetitia Courtois, of the International Committee of the Red Thingy, told AFP.

Family, friends curse US at funeral for PMF fighter killed in airstrike
[RUDAW.NET] At the funeral on Tuesday for an Iraqi militiaman killed in a United States Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
, family and friends cursed the US and said there are "a thousand more" ready to take his place.

Karar Abdulaziz, 27, was a Shabak Kurd and a member of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). He was one of four PMF fighters killed in a US airstrike on the Iraq-Syria border on Monday.

"The airstrike has extinguished the candle in our house. What should we do? God damn both the US and Israel. God damn them both, now and in the hereafter. They attack houses of people, may God attack theirs," said Zainal Abdulaziz, brother of Karar Abdulaziz.

Early Monday morning, the US launched "defensive precision airstrikes" against Iran-backed factions of the PMF on the Iraq-Syria border. "The targets were selected because these facilities are utilized by Iran-backed militias that are engaged in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks against US personnel and facilities in Iraq," the Pentagon stated.

Two days earlier, four explosive-laden drones hit locations northeast of Erbil, within a few kilometres of where the new US consulate is under construction. Drones are a growing worry in Iraq and the PMF are blamed for at least six drone attacks or attempted attacks in Iraq this year.

The militias, which are also accused of firing rockets at bases housing US troops, want to force American troops out of the country.

Iran conditions return to nuclear deal on US commitment to never withdraw again
[IsraelTimes] Iran’s envoy to the United Nations told the Security Council Wednesday that an essential condition for reviving the 2015 nuclear deal is a commitment by the US that it will never again unilaterally pull out of the agreement.

Ambassador Majid Takht Ravanchi said such assurances were needed to build confidence in US and European adherence to the deal, known formally as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and enable the economic benefits that the deal is supposed to bring to his country.

35 murders in Syria's Turkish-occupied Afrin in 6 months
[NPASYRIA] A human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
organization revealed on Tuesday that 35 cases of murder, including nine women and 13 children, occurred in the Afrin region, northwestern Syria, during the past six months by the Ottoman Turkish army and its affiliated gangs.

Since The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
and Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition groups took control of Afrin and after its invasion of north Syria in March 2018, cases of murder, kidnapping, illegal logging, and building settlements in Afrin continues, according to human rights reports.

Ibrahim Sheikho, a front man for the Human Rights Organization — Afrin, said that the killings during the last six months in Afrin have reached 35, including nine women and 13 children.

He added to North Press, "This is a result of the practices of the Ottoman Turkish-backed groups, including bombings, explosions, and torture in the prisons of the gangs."

Sheikho stated that the frequency of kidnappings with the aim of collecting ransom money increased during the same period, reaching 303 cases, including 25 women and kiddies.

The human rights lawyer cited the kidnapping of two children, 15-year-old Hanan Manan Battal and 14-year-old Manan Manan Battal, from the village of Jaqli Wastani in the Sheikh Hadid district.

In late January, the pro-Ottoman Turkish Ahrar al-Sharqiya group kidnapped two brothers from Afrin on charges of dealing with the Autonomous Administration and demanded $15,000 for their release.

Sheikho also pointed to the continuation of theft, seizure of indigenous property, and the imposition of royalties.

Turkey and their affiliated gangs continue the policy of demographic change by building settlements to settle the families of the bad boys.

Sheikho said that the Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition groups started constructing a settlement village in an area located between the villages of Kobaleh and Kaluta in Sherawa district in the Afrin countryside.

i Red Islamic Thingy to settle families of Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition groups in the homes and on the lands of displaced residents.

The organization has documented the prevention of 50 Afrin’s indigenous families from entering their homes in Bulbul district, north of Afrin, since the beginning of the Ottoman Turkish occupation, as 600 Turkmen families were settled in the same district.

The button men resort to setting fires in the forests in order to clear-cut and level the lands, as happened in the forested areas of the village of Aranda in the Sheikh Hadid district.

The fires devoured 20 hectares (200 dunums) of forested land in the forest that extends between the town of Sheikh al-Hadid and the villages of Ramadana and Hajj Hasanu.

Since the beginning of 2021, the areas of the northern countryside of Aleppo, which are sheltering IDPs from Afrin, have been subjected to repeated indiscriminate bombardment by Turkey and the Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition groups.

On June 4, coinciding with the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, Ottoman Turkish bombing of the village of Kaluta in Sherawa district, in Afrin countryside resulted in the killing of a girl and the injury of her brother and father.

On January 23 of 2021, the bombing of Tel Rifaat city center resulted in the death of four people, including a woman and two children.

Iran says executing child offenders not a rights violation

#1  Executing those who have murdered and understand the grivous nature of their crime is ok by me. Face it too many of the generation coming up behind us was reared on computer killing games.

They see life basically as a game with a Do Over...and are taught there is no GOD or HELL. So there is no ultimate reward after life for being good and no penlty for being evil.
